especially since we delight in always pointing accusing fingers at the Government alone.
Did i ever tell you that our leaders are not to blame for some fuel scarcity?
you consciously made those statements above bro. embarassed embarassed embarassed lipsrsealed
PoliticsRe: Woman, 58, Dies While Queuing For Fuel by georgecso(op): 10:21am On May 05, 2009
if she had died while in a visa queue, what would you have blamed?
I'll wholeheartedly blame the government because its only in this country that someone will give a tesmony in the church for simply securing a visa. Have u ever see ppl queuing up for days to secure US/UK visa in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya,Britain,or Sweden.
PoliticsRe: Woman, 58, Dies While Queuing For Fuel by georgecso(op): 10:08am On May 05, 2009
Where did i absolve the government of all blame? I said there would be long queues where goods are scarce. Scarcity of fuel is not new in Nigeria. There's no scarcity of refined petroleum products in the countries you mentioned, hence no queues.
@texazzpete
Please tell me why the leaders are not to be blame for fuel scarcity! If they are not to be blame as u pointed out for the present fuel situation , then there is failure of good leadership in our beloved country
PoliticsRe: Woman, 58, Dies While Queuing For Fuel by georgecso(op): 9:43am On May 05, 2009
You didn't address the subject on ground, instead you are talking about another thang.
Can't you think?
Is it normal we have fuel scarcity in this country.even with all the said rebranding, vision 2020.
Refineries=0

This country is cursed abeg
Bros ask him abeg. texazzpete says it is normal to struggle for Petrol and its not the government fault. Just imagine queue of petrol in Saudi Arabia, Libya or Venezuella.

@texazzpete

It will not be wrong/abnormal if we start queuing up for Garri.

A 58 year old woman, Mrs Esther Ladi Abubakar who served with the Niger State Ministry of Health before her recent retirement died yesterday while waiting to buy fuel at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Mega Station in Minna.

Our Correspondent gathered that the woman who was on the queue for more than four hours without success was about to buy from black marketers when she collapsed and died. According to a nephew of the deceased, Humpani Bahago, people crowded the car but did not try to help because they were scared.

As tension mounts over the delay in the release of the result of the Ekiti re-run election heightens, Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), Maurice Iwu, has said it is only the Resident Electoral Commission (REC) that is competent to announce the results of the last Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

Prof. Iwu, who made the declaration on Monday in Abuja at a press conference, however, disclosed that the REC in Ekiti State was currently indisposed.

Prof. Iwu, while declaring the election inconclusive also disclosed that the re-run in the two wards in Oye has been postponed indefinitely owing to activities of thugs in the volatile town. , daily sun

Opinion

The problem going on in Ekiti is an acid test which clearly shows that INEC cannot conduct a peaceful and successful election now and even future.

We should not fail to admit our weakness and shortcoming if privatization of INEC would be the best for this country. NITEL was a failure and we invited the GSM providers, NIGERIAN AIRWAYS has been forgotten and we now have other PRIVATE AIRLINES,we now private PENSION PROVIDERS, PART OF PHCN has also or in the process of been privatized etc

It will be a nice idea if private consultant (s) takes over INEC at least to restore trust and dignity.

They don't deserve this harsh treatment considering the fact that these guys put their lives on the line to protect our image through peace keeping in other African Countries. If they were payed as at when due, they would not have protested for their money. Considering the fact that some if not all are bread winners and have several family commitments to meet. These brave soldiers are just victims of corruption and inefficiency in the armed forces.

Granted Oil bunkering and siphoning is an adverse and direct correlation to poverty regardless, of what the statistics say. It don't require specialization in any field to understand the in-henrent relation ship between the two. All it take is common sense.
I concur with you

PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria A Failed State? by georgecso(m): 2:54pm On Apr 27, 2009
Isn't the government made up of people? Yes, the problem of our country is partly with the government. And privatization is the best solution to that. It puts the destiny of the country in the hands of you and I.
Isn't the government made up of people?
Seun that's not the case in this country you know that. If it were to be the government of the ppl we would not be wasting state funds to have re-run elections, cancellation and other related issues

And privatization is the best solution to that.
I agree with you but the government has not created enabling and sustainable policies that would make SMEs to grow and strive well
PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria A Failed State? by georgecso(m): 2:46pm On Apr 27, 2009
Failing state? 100% Yes. We don't need a soothsayer to tell us that Nigeria is a failing State.
PoliticsRe: How Can We Hold Credible Elections In Nigeria? by georgecso(m): 2:39pm On Apr 27, 2009
Quote from: mikeansy on Today at 12:46:07 PM
Every Nigerian needs to get Civilised first. We are not civilised.

See what happened in South Africa or Ghana will never happen in Nigeria in the next 50years.

In South Africa Thabo Mbeki stepped down merely because he was accused of meddling with Judicial affairs.
Jacob Zuma who was already the party leader and President did not hastily rush into power but rather waited to be voted in.
Molanthe who took over power in Interim Capacity did not even try to form his own party to challenge Zuma his party's choice.
And when the election was held freely and fairly, Zuma won fair and square.

Can any of this civility happen in Nigeria? Mbeki will not certainly step down in Nigeria, Jacob Zuma will not dream of postponing his opportunity to assume power for the sake of any Election, Molanthe would have certainly reformed the ANC or formed a new party in other to remain in power and the election that brought Zuma to power won't certainly be free and fair.

Or are we talking about Ghana where Gerry Rawlings deputy lost elections to then opposition candidate John Kuffor, and then John Kuffor's deputy and prefered candidate lost the primary election to Nana Akuffo Ado. And then Nana Akuffor Ado who is in the President's party and who President Kuffor voted at the general election lost to the opposition candidate Prof. Atta-Mills.

Will any of these civility be shown in Nigeria?

If anybody tells you Nigeria is giant of Africa tell them to wake up from sleep . . . . . the world is moving beyond us.
That's a good sign of a failing state. USSR did not collapse in one day. If Nigeria, INEC cannot a hold a successful election in a Local Government in Ekiti State, then Nigeria is in a big dilemma.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Is A Failing State:british All Party Parliamentary Group Report by georgecso(op): 2:29pm On Apr 27, 2009
it is a failing state - stay there, we have heard, stay where you are, let us suffer it alone, we dont need anyone to help us survive, at least we have been surviving it till now, it is people like you who dont have anything to contribute to the countries progress that has made it a "failed" state, so, thank you, we have heard you, British apologists - thank you, by the time wey dem rubbish your black skin, na im you go know say, failing or no failing, home is home.
I respect your opinion bro. Its not easy to think the way you think you know. Honestly, am based in Naija. Myself and ppl of similar opinion will not keep mute and pretend as if all is well in this country. My country is so naturally endowed that today l had to push my car 2 miles to get one garlon (4liters) of petrol @ 750 (No thanks to the refineries that are not working). I called my friend in Niger Republic to confirm if the petrol scarcity has hitted their country, he said " My friend (in french) if l have anything better to discuss l should say it, we have enough petrol if u want" l painfully laughed and l said goodbye.

If the country is good we ll commend the leaders and if they go wrong we ll bash them with words. We are just getting started Bro

Sport can never grow in this country until those bunch of selfish and unpatriotic officials in NFA are flushed out. It is really absurd that we cannot assemble 11 good players that can take this country to the next level. Recently l learnt $200,000 disappeared into thin air, may God help this country
PoliticsRe: Why The Division? by georgecso(m): 9:34am On Apr 27, 2009
We must learn to voice out our problems if we must be sincere about change in this country. I don't seems to understand why our fellow comrades in the dispora share contrary opinion anytime we point out problems affecting us.
Personally l believe in one indivisible nigeria, a better nigeria, workable nigeria, where youths who are willing to make meaningful contribution to this country are given that opportunity. It can be done!!!

As someone said recently, those people selling recharge cards and Lacasera, are they not human beings too?

No country in the world can eradicate extreme poverty. It's impossble! But condoning crime because of extreme poverty is wrong. Anything that can bring harm to others is WRONG!!!

I guess this means you empathize with armed robbers too.
[size=14pt]Nobody is saying poverty should be eradicated haba!

Are we the only country with crude oil? Go to Dubai, Kuwait, Oman, Libya, Angola, Algeria etc Have u heard or come across any case a pipeline vandalization in any of these country? Please if there is kindly post them lets see. My focus is on the innocent lives we normally scarifies quarterly if not yearly and not armed robbers.

Nigeria is a major oil producing country in the world yet we cannot boost of any refinery that is working to serve even half of our domestic needs.

After all the British are the causes of our ethnic problems.
100% disagree with you Bro. Our Selfish and Unpatriotic Leaders that ruled this country at various capacities (25-30yrs ago) are the architects of Nigerian current problems period. We are not the only country colonized by British or whatever. Go to Bostwana, South Africa, Egypt, Libya, Malasiya , India etc
