You should be happy that those in the abroad are working. The bulk of real estate activities in Nigeria is financed by abroadians (more than 70%). So, I wonder why you are against those working abroad. Also, as Ednut stated, the days of 2004 are not the same as this year. There are many Nigerians with GOOD jobs in the abroad even in the oddest of places. The skill set, language proficiency (in non-Anglophone countries) and immigration status matter. My advice: you better focus on shining teeth with Tinubu o |
In the SW, women sit at the back. In the north, women sit with other women or alone, but definitely not with another man other than the rider who is not her husband. In most parts of the East (SS & SE), men sit at the back. OP: When in Rome, do as the Romans. I served in the SW and sat at the back, I did not mind. My interest is getting to my destination on time and not in pieces. P.S. Before someone brings their mumbo-jumbo political reasoning to me, the SS&SE are geographically situated in Eastern Nigeria. |
seanwilliam:My pleasure. I recall you from the Beggars thread. ![]() I have seen poverty what looks like, and I don't like it. I like the good things in life. It is not like I come from a wealthy family, but we sacrificed a lot to be where we are today. I have seen how having too many children, having children for different men and from different women render folks wretched. I have also seen how a lack of long-term planning and delayed gratification have wrecked people. Poverty is a bad thing and worse than death. |
folake4u:That is the truth. Even if one does not have ambitions or extra-flexing or elite schools' ambitions, just feeding is something else. Na why I keep emphasising vasectomy to men because female contraceptives can fail, and the truth of the matter be say, the burden of providing for a family or a large proportion of it lies on the man. Even the side chic some men indulge in has a low ROI. People have to use their senses. Things are hard everywhere. I had a friend way back and her erstwhile boyfriend broke up with her when it was time for marriage. He's rich but he said he can't take on her family's burden. I didn't blame him though and I told her my thoughts. She isn't the first child but her whole family solely depended on her for survival. Plus they were 5 kids (inclusive of her). Told her that her siblings need to start fending for themselves somehow because nobody is coming to save you.Not fair on the lady. Which is why it is important to begin early with the question: how many siblings do you have? |
folake4u: ![]() I have to o, because to maintain a level of financial comfort as a black man, one must be wary of the black tax. - Sponsoring a woman to school? I no do. - Sponsoring a sibling or cousin of hers to school? I no do - Opening a business for any of her relatives? I no do I better don't get involved in what I cannot finish. So, I target those with just two siblings. Hopefully, God bless me so I meet the one with just a sibling. Young ones should deter/caution/dissuade their parents from having more children than they can cater for. I am proud to say I did that to my parents. If I had not, I doubt they would have been able to sponsor me to where I am today. People must be a little bit selfish. |
AreaFada2:Thanks for the reply. I agree that building is hard, but when built, the builders cherish it so much and strive to maintain what they have built. |
Anyway, this thread and many others is a major reason I am wary of any lady who has more than 2 siblings. That is one of my first set of questions when interacting with any Nigerian/African lady: how many siblings do you have? More than 2? My mind says back off. When my parents stopped at three, others decided to fire on till four, five and six. The Gods forbid! |
tensazangetsu20:If you see the way I discourage my brother from ever thinking about marriage eh. But I have preached this thing since 2020: https://www.nairaland.com/6035550/nigerians-poverty-certain-acts-perpetuate Nigerians just have this belief that nothing dey happen. The good thing about this thread is that it encapsulates the views of the average Nigerian, especially those outside Lagos and Abuja. If na Twitter or Reddit/Nigeria, Ndi Lekki would tell us Nigerians are enjoying. ![]() |
maasoap:But Tinubu, your guy, won every state in the South West except cosmopolitan Lagos and came behind Atiku in a close contest in Osun. But he garnered a lot of votes by sheer numbers from Yorubas including in Kogi and Kwara. He also won the North West. Let's not distort facts here. The majority of Yorubas voted for Tinubu. Be proud of it. |
NoToPile:Tensazangetsu20, Na true you talk. Married men should never be envied. Any married man in Nigeria has strong balls. ![]() |
When I analyse issues from the root rather than the stem or branches, Nigerians go attack me. The issue has to do with having lots of children. I have recommended vasectomy as the solution, but Nigerian men dey say no. Female contraceptives except hysterectomy can fail. Vasectomy remains the surest means of restricting childbirth, but una no go listen. Now, una don born FOUR children. I wonder why you people think having many kids is fun. Having four children means you have to spend at least 72 years of your earnings, time and energy till they become 18 years old at minimum, and 100 years of your earnings till they attain 25 years old at maximum. Na body go tell una. |
Misterone:Yeah, the same thing was said by you and your cohorts as the reason Buhari was voted in 2015. |
Gerrard59:Dave2011, Are you there? C'mon! |
lastkingsman:Generally, across the world, na during the test stage most applicants dey fail. I don't know how it is for American firms, because I don't often see/read that firms organise aptitude tests for applicants. But the test stage is where dreams die. ![]() |
Karleb:This involves learning Portuguese from secondary school and being hopeful a visa would be issued to write the entrance examination into Brazillian universities. The aspect of scholarship isn't applicable as anyone regardless of economic background can get a scholarship, and apart from the US, there exist very countries that offer full tuition and living expense stipends to undergraduate applicants, which are highly competitive anyway, |
fullclub:In summary, a one-year MSc program is not worth it as it leaves a short time to go through the recruitment process. lastkingsman:Well, the same process here: SPI tests as they are called are similarly bloody and strictly in Japanese. The good thing is the program is two years. |
WriteerNg:Joke of the day! Chinese military elites would laughing so hard. As if China is not already prosperous. ![]() |
emmaodet:Honestly, you are right. I don't know what else to suggest, but should Russia fail, China is gone! No ifs or buts. The Century of Humiliation would look like Child's play. Now, the US is coming to her backyard with small small economic deals with South East Asian nations. |
tensazangetsu20:Man, looking back, I wonder if Oyibo do juju on Nigerians regarding this japa expedition. The tales I have on this thread are not palatable. I recall Emmaodet narrating how shocked he was to see his friends/associates selling all they had just to japa on student visa. Man must be glad with his decision to stay back because I must be honest, it is better to shine teeth with Tinubu as a married man with your hard-earned assets in Nigeria than cry in the UK because the British are making things tight for immigrants. So na so slave trade bin dey? Nna mehn. ![]() |
fullclub:I am curious, what if the person has actual industry IT certifications like those CISSP blah blah blah? What about actual work experience with tech firms in Nigeria? Is a UK work experience still necessary provided all tests are scaled through? Also, what about graduate trainee jobs recruitment programs in the UK? |
Treadway:Once I saw that, I knew it has finished - the UK haff cast! I wonder where is next. |
boneruns:Unless the person comes from a wealthy family, no Nigerian should study for an undergraduate degree outside Nigeria. It is not possible. Undergraduate studies are for a minimum of four years - four years of living expenses and tuition fees. Covenant, Babcock, ABUAD, AUN, and Baze exist. Even Ghana or South Africa should be avoided unless the person's family is very wealthy, preferably their earnings are dollar-denominated. |
DavSagacity:But ignorant Nigerians believe Nigeria is above South Africa ![]() |
IronGalaxy:I am curious, assuming the DA ever wins or has a slight majority due to the ANC's incompetence, what do you think would happen across South Africa and how would black South Africans perceive it? |
Focusmind:There is just no way the opposition would have teamed up. Their beliefs are so different. DA team up with the EE? Never going to happen. |
AreaFada2:You are a prophet! I recall when you have been saying the bold for so long. But in your opinion, why are the black leaders or black Africans in general so incompetent in managing a functioning system? This time, they don't have to build from scratch, just maintain what is ground. Why is this so difficult? Areafada2, I am curious. |
MT: I am curious, don't they have an academic background in quantitative courses like Physics or engineering or mathematics? No tech experience while in Nigeria? |
pansophist:It is what I tell Chinese here: the same attack you guys are getting from the US is what the Japanese faced. Yet the US forced Japan to sign the Plaza Accord and see how it resulted. You guys should not back down. Make sure you develop to whatever heights you want to. |
pansophist: ![]() Simeonjoe1:That is true. I have met a Taiwanese who moved here because he believes in the near future, there will be a war between the US and China over Taiwan. He likes the West, but I had to let him know that fighting China because you love the West does no good to the overall Chinese people. "Why fight your brother because an outsider egged you on? Look at Ukrainians and Russians killing themselves. Does it make sense if you fight your brother whereas the outsider is safe and watching you both deplete your population? Remember your birth rates aren't even high, so why waste lives?" He reasoned it and says I am right and the best way to do as China says: don't declare independence and stay neutral. On the other hand, all the Mainland Chinese I have met insist Taiwan is part of China and they would never allow it to go away. That it is just a matter of time for them to get it, but let it go? Never! One stated that they were taught never to allow the Century of Humiliation to repeat itself. So, they are ready to fight to prevent such reoccurrence. The truth it for many decades majority of Taiwanese has been westernized, they no longer have that hard conservative stance like native Chinese, if China is expecting using political schemes to get taiwan they are in for a long ride.Yes, political schemes won't work, but economic and lagging birth rate schemes would at a point force the Taiwanese to choose a struggle. Mainland China remains its biggest trading partner. China has to play the long game to win. I don't see Taiwan outdoing China in economic manoeuvre. Currently, the US has briefly overtaken China as the source of Taiwan's exports, but as long as China grows and there exist economic opportunities, Taiwan's overall independence from China looks unlikely. |
NSNO:Na that one dey annoy pass: a lady gets missing or brutally murdered, and instead of focusing on the killer and its motives, everyone lampoons the woman. It is a Nigerian thing as the same mentality exists on Facebook and Twitter. The constant bashing of the female folks can scare non-Nigerian women to stay away. So, I am not surprised. However, this was also performed by Ndi ifemenists on Twitter until male activists countered back. There was one that shocked me: a lady came here narrating with pictures of her tour across Nigeria. Almost half of the male responses called her ashawo and whatnot. The major problem is that most Nigerians cannot debate issues logically largely free of sentiments and state their points accordingly. Too many ethnic groups with varying interests distort people's reasoning. kkins25:Not just that, but logical minds. People don't like to or want to assess issues holistically, but their perceived beliefs. The next thing, boom! They claim ethnic superiority from nowhere that one would wonder from where to where I spend time going through the Facebook comment section of the Economist, Wall Street and Financial Times, New York Timesand the way Oyibos debate issues is very logical and thorough. They support their argument with facts and it becomes very interesting. Even the Telegraph and DailyMail, they construct their arguments even though one might disagree with their beliefs, but they are well constructed. On the other hand, when confronted with superior facts, they back down and accept they lost the debate. The same holds across the subreddits I follow. They debate logically and provide well-thought arguments. But our people?! For where! It is a major reason I liked and followed Sagamite's account. Man was so logical in his arguments. r/povertyfinance, r/finance, r/piracy, r/ask. r/Nigeria ( they are even trying, but na relationship matters they quick trend) Omo!!!!!!!!!!!Those people who don't believe that Nigeria has issues with electricity? Those ones who don't believe there are Nigerians who use kerosene stoves and firewood to cook? Those ones who believe Nigeria begins in Lagos and ends at Abuja? |
pansophist:Truly, we have suffered a lot. I have been visiting places and in all, I am the only black person. It got me wondering why are there few black tourists and the answer is we no get money. We are just too poor. Even when one sees a black person(s), na African American. Black Africans are so few in these places even though I wager that we constitute the majority of black folks here. One might say but you are in East Asia, but I see Latinos and Arabs. It is a major reason I keep hampering on black men having fewer children. To dey born born everywhere is not a good thing in a rapidly changing economy and geopolitical world. See Sudan? That country is gone for good! |
Mindlog:Simply means blacks in the UK haven't been able to rise to the cream of British intellectual working class population or aren't interested in long-painstaking research in biotech and software engineering. Yet the way it is screamed in the media, one would think blacks in the UK are a force to reckon with in the economy. Sha, if e didn't dey, e didn't dey. |
