you are suddenly denying everything you said in your first comment, you said Ukraine had the second best military in Europe and the 6th best in the world at the time Russia invaded, it seems you forget so easily sad. Just read your first comment again
I thought you were talking about second best military in the world. Sometimes it helps to talk with precision otherwise people might interpret what you say in a way which you do not intend.
You confuse being the second biggest (land mass) country in Europe with being the second best military in Europe.

I took out time to read the link you posted despite its length. There was no place it was mentioned that Ukraine military ranked second, they only said Russian military was ranked second but the military took a hit when it invaded Ukraine, a war in which it hasn't defeated Ukraine to prove its ranking in second.
1. I didn't say Ukraine was second best military.
2. The number one ranked military got defeated by farmers in Afghanistan and Vietnam.
3. You guys focus too much on speed, strategy of attrition takes time. War is not like in video games nor like in Hollywood movies, you calculate, you execute strategies, you don't go in to prove how superior you are.
4. You keep forgetting Ukraine is getting substantial help from NATO. A lot of the things Ukraine is doing now are not in Ukraine's capacity but in NATO's. Also even your best friend zelensky said that Russia would defeat Ukraine in one week if Ukraine didn't have USA help.
5. As I clearly stated, I posted the link for the rankings on it because I knew it belongs to the media which you trust, that doesn't mean I endorse everything in that web page. Did I mention anything other than the ranking of Ukraine's military in that link ? NO !

True sir, not only did they hold back major forces of imperial Japan, they nuked japan to submission and US claimed that through their propaganda machine.
I don't think you understand that Germany had already been defeated by the USSR and the USSR was already occupying some Japanese islands when the USA nuked Japan, an event which stopped soviet advance into Japanese territory.
But like I said, some people don't really understand history.

the highest position Ukraine military ever got in world military ranking is 18th, they were only strong when they were still part of USSR and had nuclear weapons located there which they gave up to Russia as part of the deal that broke up the Soviet union with an agreement with Russia not to invade the country. Why will you think Ukrainian military was stronger than French and British militaries? .
1. It is bizarre to say Ukraine was strong when it was part of the USSR and that it had nuclear weapons when it was part of the USSR. I would like to ask you if you consider Adamawa state to be strong or to have fighter jets and weapons assembling factories ?
Ukraine was a part of the USSR, it wasn't an independent country, it didn't have nukes nor a military.
2. Well I will have to check that ranking again to be sure, but I just found an other ranking from 2023 which claims Ukraine is 15th best military power in the world: https://www.businessinsider.com/ranked-world-most-powerful-militaries-2023-firepower-us-china-russia-2023-5
The amount of soviet weaponry which remained in Ukraine plus the amount of western weaponry which poured in since the USA took over Ukraine in 2014 made it stronger than France and the UK in my opinion.

The war against Ukraine, a "small country " is still on over a year, despite all these Russian missiles that can "reach anywhere on the planet" angry sad
Ukraine was the second biggest country in Europe and had the 6th best army in the world when Russia invaded. Plus add all the assistance of NATO. Then factor in attrition warfare strategy applied by Russia.
Attrition strategy is like boxing, I hit you, but I don't let you hit me, it is slow but efficient.

People tend to identify Russia with Stalin, but if you do so, doesn't that mean you identify Georgia with Russia ?
Some people think Russia was a colonial power because they see all these countries which used to be part of the soviet union which they confuse as russian colonial empire. These guys fail to understand history.
All these countries are breakaway parts of the USSR and Russian empire. They didn't exist as countries untill they broke away from either the USSR either russian empire.
The USSR has been lead by a Georgia and a Ukrainian, so that should tell you how wrong your world view is.
Finland fought in Russian civil war as a part of that same Russia and a big supporter of the Russian emperor... unfortunately history is not taken seriously these days.

1. Not everybody who speaks inconvenient facts is "anti-west". Some people here are anti-west, some are just pro-truth and some are pro-Russia.
2. I don't get why some people keep saying "mother Russia" while they aren't Russians, and one guy just praised Lenin for ww2, I really didn't grasp where that was coming from, even president Putin hates Lenin and considers Lenin an enemy of Russia.
3. Back to topic, I'm pro-truth, the pro-west-anti-Russia people here seem to feel superior and don't actually care to make sense nor to listen to sense, so they just insult any person saying things which they find inconvenient in order to shut him up. I think some of these guys are paid nafo trolls.
4. You weirdly divided people between pro and anti west, being pro Russia is not the same as being anti-west, but I guess your worldview is binary: "you either bow or you're an enemy".
Michaeltreasure:
Why are all pro west abusive on this thread? From Ibime, Kremlingrad, Obedience etc Can't you all make your points without insulting your opponent?
Personally, I prefer Western world power to the Chinese and Russian, and that's because it's the lesser evil.
But insulting anti west, who themselves frequently make good points, just to make your own point is nonsensical to me...

No, they've lost around 50 000 men including and mostly irregulars. The number comes from a bbc investigation. And it is close to the number given by Shoigu.
People keep saying Russia is slow, but guess why Russia is slow: it is making sure it loses few men while inflicting maximal casualties on its enemy. It is called war of attrition, and it is working.

The guy managed to have his country outproduce the usa and its around 40 allies combined in weapons production.
You don't realize how amazing a job Shoigu did. And I repeat, he was due for retirement before this war, he was specifically asked to continue as minister of defence after the war started eventhough he had already done his time and wanted out before the war.

His replacement has an amazing cv, except for someone with such a cv, anybody else would pale in comparison with Shoigu.
Nobody can keep that position forever. Shoigu's successor definately deserves his turn.

⚡If Poland starts expelling Ukrainians of military age, its economy could suffer significantly.

There will be no one to work, Forbes said, citing data from economists.

More than a million Ukrainians have arrived in Poland since February 2022. Of these, 371,000 are men of military age.

Their contribution to Poland's GDP in 2023 will be 0.7 - 1.1 per cent, and in the long term the effect will grow to 0.9 - 1.35 per cent.
I don't believe they are contributing anything at all. Even though contrary to other refugees they are allowed to work and have basically the same language as Poland.

It is just a stupid argument, I was trying to be polite with you.
