Yesterday I went for my first antenatal class at the private clinic that dh and I registered ( which I didn't like their service the first time I went to see doctor).

The stories I had heard abt antenatal classes from F & F is that lectures were being given to expected mamas concerning the journey ahead and how to care for themselves and the baby , dh and many stuffs. So I felt that the class in addition to other things is a support unit, something related to what we have here but one on one.

So I went with pen and jotter for note. But to my disappointment, I was just given number and asked to go pay for routine test and have it done. Then afterwards, people were called to Dr office. So when my turn reached, Dr asked me what the problem was, so I told him nothing except for headache. He asked me to lay on the board and after pressing my tummy with his hands, he said OK. That everything is fine and he will prescribed drugs for me. I was very much disappointed .

So just pressing my tummy with hands is the deal? No using any instrument to hear or check the baby heartbeat or his developmental stages. Hmmmm. So when he said if there is no other questions he is through with me. I asked him how many weeks is the baby now. Mr doctor said that my baby is 24 weeks. I asked him whether he is sure about it. Mr doctor responded that if I believe that he is a doctor and not mechanic(can you imagine the arrogance? Looking down on others! Whoknows if he grauduated with let my people go?) then I should believe him or do a scan.

I said fine, let me do a scan . the scan said that I am 17 weeks 1 day. So I asked doctor why are we having two different results. Mr doctor just said he used his measurement and scan used his measurement too.

Please, my PhD holders in this field of study come and help your first year undergraduate sister.

My questions are these;
* Do I have misconception about antenatal classes?

• Are doctors just to press my tummy with hands alone
without any instrument even a measuring tape?

∆ Are the scanning machine supposed to show unclear
picture of the baby? More like watching NTA
program in the then black and White TV when the
weather is cloudy and signal is very poor.

Hope you haven't paid these people yet cuz it's obvious you don't like or trust this hospital and you're better off using a hospital you like.

At my hospital in Lagos, antenatal classes were done every first Saturday of the month or so. And that was different from your normal antenatal appointments days, which could be any day of the week, where you only come, submit test samples and get checked by the doctor. Meanwhile the general hospital im using here does both classes, tests and checkups on the same day, stressful something. so you need to ask the hospital people if and when they hold antenatal classes.

The instruments for examination also depends on the hospital. At my hospital, the doctor had the scan thingy in his office and would sometimes look at it especially when youre close to edd tho he won't show you unless once in a blue moon. You also got to hear baby's heartbeat at every appointment. Then he does the hand examination and uses the measuring tape too. At the general hospital here, they use a manual instrument to listen, and you don't get to hear what they're hearing. I've taken to booking scans before all my appointments since I'm getting close to EDD.

The scan thing has been mostly black and white for me. Some are clearer than others. All I can clearly see is baby's heartbeat, sometimes they would try to show you baby's genitals or other parts but it's all always lost in a sea of black and white for me. They have places where you can do more expensive scans sha, like the coloured ones and stuff. But I've never gone near those ones. I would see the colour of the baby when he's born. cheesy

I think they always measure. This your doctor seemed too shoddy, tho ive noticed that many doctors tend to be very dismissive if you have no complaints, they rush your own appointment so that they can take more patients. But you shouldn't let them. Id have asked him why he didn't measure and why there are no classes. Why is his own date so much different from the scan date. What's your LMP. From the story, I can already picture the kind of private hospital it is and it is not for first time mums. You should go register at a general hospital too. As back up hospital. Or get a good private hospital.

You should go see a doctor with the scan results, go to a good hospital and just follow what your doctor says

The scan would always give you a different date, especially towards the end, it's just a machine. I heard the dates given on the very first scan is always the most reliable. Just stick to the LMP date or whatever date your doctor is working with.

Please make una chok mouth for this my matter. I'm 16 weeks dot, headache no gree me see road.

I am afraid for my baby cos I don't feed well. I stay alone as dh is at work(offshore), and am naturally not a foodie. After cooking, the food won't taste nice in my mouth and I will end up packing them inside the freezer. Just yesterday, I fried 2 eggs for breakfast to go down with tea and bread but I ended up not eating it. I will feel like eating rice, but immediately am done with cooking, the rice won't be appealing to me and if I force it down next is to throw it up.

The only it that still taste good in my mouth now is fried yam, white yam with red oil and plenty pepper. I can tolerant some fruits like watermelon, banana and apple.

I'm worried that my baby isn't getting enough nutrient. Please mamas what can I do?

Your baby would be fine. In my two pregnancies I lost over 10kg in first trimester cuz I can always only eat fruits and biscuits for the whole of first trimester. A doctor told me I should just eat whatever agrees to stay down, as long as I'm eating, that's what matters.

You're lucky you stay alone. If I were you I'd have locked my kitchen sinceeeeeeee cuz having to smell food is always one of the hardest parts for me.
If you work, try to eat more when you're in the office, it's easier to fight nausea when you're busy, compared to when you're just home lying down. If you ain't working you can visit restaurants or fastfoods and eat whatever feels the most stomach friendly at the moment, even if it's ice cream.

Of course it would first feel like it's losing it's firmness, then it would lose its firmness. Then someone would come along and suck them to flatness. Then that someone, after you finally wean them would turn your breast to drum, pillow, pulley, ladder for when she wants to climb on your head.

I suggest you take a good picture of them now cuz you would need them for when you want to reminisce cheesy

I'm good. My mum made me register in a general hospital. Anyday I go there I feel like I'm going to go into labour because the stress reminds me of doing final year clearance in Nigerian university choi.

I have been meaning to advice pregnant mamas with toddlers. Pls and pls i beg u all in this category in the Name of Almighty God. Be careful and always protect yourself with a pillow to reduce the impact and always talk to them not to jump on you cos of baby.
A very close family member had a painful incident few years ago. Her daughter jumped on her when she was 7months+ and her water broke she was rushed to the hospital and they had to go in for an ECS to bring out the baby. The hospital referred the baby to another hospital where they had NICU cos they couldn't handle the case but the baby didn't survived after spending so much money and the stress and pain the mother went through. The mother almost passed out in the process but God saved her. The whole incident was quite traumatic for her and she hated her daughter cos she will always be crying and saying the daughter killed her child but thank God she has gotten over it and has had another baby.

The cattahr sound is common with new born babies. Their noses are still a bit sfuffy and they cant breathe with their mouth yet, thats why you hear the sound. But take her to the hospital asap for the crying part, let them check to make sure her tongue isn't tied or whatever. Just ask the doctor or matron to check her tongue. The earlier it's detected, the easier it is to fix.

You've already tried so many things so maybe it's time to calm down and find out what works for her skin. For now just moisturize and leave it alone. Try sebamed or Aveeno soap, no dettol and their likes and no creams and lotions. Also try feeding her lots of milk, fruits and vegetables. Since it started post weaning, she might be lacking some of those nutrients that are usually good for the skin.
