Computers / Lenovo E50-80 - Elitebook 840 - HP640 G3: Advice Needed by GideonVIBES(m): 11:19pm On Dec 05, 2022
It actually would be my first time of buying a laptop for myself, and I'm not a techie — hence the need for advice.

I have a budget of 150 - 170k.

I've been offered:

Lenovo E60-80
Corei5
1THDD
5th Gen
No keyboard light.
₦150,000

EliteBook 840
Corei5
1THDD
5thGen
Keyword light.
₦160,000

Hp640 G3 - Probook
Corei5
500GB(HDD)
7th Gen
Keyboard light
₦170,000

I have particularly been advised to go for the Lenovo by a friend.

I intend to use the laptop for regular things; light gaming, graphic works. Though I plan to learn programming.

I need the advice of the senior men in the house.

1. Which of the 3 would be the best choice.

2. Are there better laptops I could get at same price range?

IamV:
But come to think of it,assuming that Russia is really going to invade Ukraine, what about UK and US previous commitment to protect Ukraine ?
Someone should educate me,because I don't understand why they should be withdrawing thier troops at this point in time, when Ukraine needed them more.

The current global oder is built on the assurance that Superpowers would NEVER directly engage each other – militarily. States that are in the periphery of each bloc's sphere of influence are strategically expendable, and provide the much-needed platform for controlled confrontations – Taiwan, Ukraine. The West can't go to war with China over Taiwan. The West won't fire a shot at Russia over Ukraine – Biden and Scolz already made that clear. That won't be the case if China invades South Korea, or, Russia hits Poland.
Just like in the case of WWII: the German invasion of Czechoslovakia, Austria, unsettled the world, but no major power moved an inch, not until Hitler touched Poland.

While a Russian invasion of Ukraine is most unlikely; forget the media meltdown, Putin would play the Georgian card – worst case scenario.

Be realistic Germany has its culture, African has its

The artifacts are of service to the bini kingdom even when they were in the dusty shithole of subshara Africa it doesn't change the fact they were made for their purpose to be of service to the bini culture

They should be returned to fulfil the purpose of their creation

The palace has a trust it has refurbished to keep them safe

Are you even aware of the conditions in the palace today, it can compete with satandard

Toh. As a historian, and an African, I want the artifacts returned - ultimately.

Politics / Re: Don’t Allow Obaseki Take Custody Of 1,130 Stolen Artefacts - Oba Of Benin To FG by GideonVIBES(m): 9:40am On Jul 10, 2021
DeFuturePresido:
The crux of the disagreement is this: Who should rightfully take custody of these artefacts? To answer the question, let us take two approaches:

1. Who was the original owner of these artefacts, and who, today, physically embodies that person?

2. Who has the greatest capacity to preserve these artefacts for the greater good of the largest number of people and for posterity? Is it
A. The Benin Royal Palace,
B. A privately managed Museum Trust,
C. The Edo State Government or
D. The Federal Government of Nigeria?

ANSWERS
1. The rightful original "owner" or custodian was Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi, who was deposed during the British "punitive expedition" of 9 - 17 Feb 1897, which was led by Rear-Admiral Harry Rawson.

The person that, today, physically embodies Oba Ovonramwen is (unequivocally) the current ruler of Benin Kingdom, Oba Eheneden Erediauwa Ewuare II.

2. The answer to who can best manage the artifacts, unfortunately, is not straight forward. Technically, it should be the Federal or State government. However, you only need to pay a visit to Federal and State museums across the country to understand that good management and maintenance is not a strong point of government in these parts.

That leaves us with The Royal Palace or The Private Trust.

My inclination is to suggest a merger of the two options:

A. The museum/cultural district should be built in the location chosen by the Oba of Benin.
B. The museum and cultural district should be managed by the Private Trust.
C. Oba Ewuare II should be made the Chairman of the Trust.
D. The CEO of the Trust should be a thoroughly seasoned professional and should be chosen via a merit-based selection process.
E. Members of the Trust Board should be drawn equally from nominees provided by the Benin Palace, the State Government, the Trust's Directors and the Federal Government.
F. All decisions should be made via simple majority votes.

I believe that this option will resolve the issue and provide the best solution.

Going by the statements here, one would understand why the attempt to meddle with the place of History in our secondary school curriculum was such a BIG problem.

Your comment captured the crust of the matter. The begging question is; who does the artifacts really belong to? Your comment answered that.
They were carried off during the Benin expedition (Feb 1897). The Acting British Consul, Philip, invaded Benin in 1896; without London's permission. He had plans to introduce the British Native Administration System in the Benin Empire. In his letter to the Colonial Office London, he protected that the cost of the war would be covered by the "ivory present in the Oba's palace". He went ahead to launch the mission, without an affirmative response from London.

That first mission ended as a disaster for the British; the Benin forces ambushed the British forces and killed literally all the men (250 soldiers, and few British senior officers). Only 2 British officers survived; this is known as the Benin Massacre.

In response, London launched a full scale operation against the Benin Empire; this informed why the 1897 expedition was largely punitive, and involved a level of operational highhandedness not he generally consistent with British colonial expeditionary strategy; Benin city was set ablaze; thousands of ivories carried off from the palace, shrines, etc; Chiefs were hung; most icnonically, the palace was burnt to the ground. The Oba was exiled to Calabar, and a British administrator was appointed.

Most of the artifacts are still scattered across European cities; they were auctioned to cover the expedition's cost.

Conclusively, unlike the British expedition in the Forbidden City (Palace) of China, where the monarchy is nonexistent today; the institution of the Benin Obaship subsists.
If the genuine intention of today's Britain is real reparations, then, those artifacts are to be returned to the Palace from whence they were carried off 124 years ago.

The question that begs answers is; do we (FG, Edo SG, Benin Kingdom) have the needed environment to keep these artifacts?

Would these artifacts be covered in dust, 10 years from now; when all the pomp and pageantry are gone.

I don't know the ancestral relevance of these artifacts, nor what they mean to the Benin people; all I know is that if the ancestors were allowed to vote, the ancestors would rather remain in shiny glass cases; under cool conditioned air; with 24-hour lights beaming down on them; than to be abandoned in some dusty hall with leaky roofs somewhere south of the Sahara.

You beg to differ? When was the last time you visited a Nigerian museum (except for research purposes - for historians)?

itzzkhaliii:
Greetings to elders, I have so much respect for this forum as person they struggle with one isissue I say ma carryam come elders forum.

It all began last 2- weeks when my brother wanted to apply for his P-UTME exam. But to do so the school he applied for required him to change his course as his cut off mark for the course he applied before hasn't reached. This is necessary for him to be considered among those that will be shortlisted to Sit for exam.

We went to Jamb CBT to change his course and go ahead with the P-UTME registration. This is where The problems started unfolding. We Came to realize that he used my mum's number to open his jamb profile, and the sad thing is that they had stolen my mum's phone with that sim in it last two months. She lived for some weeks without phone before going ahead to buy a phone and a new sim.

So when the CBT guy told us that we will need that sim for change of course to be possible. We went to jamb office here in Kaduna and they confirmed the CBT guy statement. We went for the sim swap last monday but Mtn told us that since the sim pack wasn't available she will have to do a court affidavit. We got the affidavit instantly but there was a lot of que when we go back to the Mtn office.

We have to leave it till Tuesday, we went early morning when it was her turn for the swap she went ahead but one surprising thing is that the same sim that she bought and registered by herself 5- years ago turned out to be displaying a different person pix with details.

That's where real wahala start ooo, the Mtn agent told her that there is no way that sim swap will be done because it wasn't her pix in the profile. He told her that what actually happens was that the people she bought the sim from where just business men disguising themselves as Mtn agent, they are just after to sale their sim card in order to gain profit. They will offer you a registered sim as unregistered and take you through the process of registering as if that was the exact Time the registering is taking place.

At the end we trird other Mtn offices but the same answer was given to us the only way out was to look for the person whose pix is displaying to come by himself and do the swapping. This is a person my mum has never met in her entire life she don't even know him.

Remember that she was just a victim of a circumstance that's beyond her control and anybody can fall for it. I can't even comprehend how an innocent student will waste another year at home as result of a missing sim or number.

Pls I am begging on fellow elders in the house or anyone that has been in similar situation like this or know someone that has come across a similar problem and was able to solve it to pls help my brother out he has already wasted a year at home.

Pls help me out

You stay in KD. Go to Leventis Roundabout. Move towards MTN/Airtel office area (the road under construction). There's a big black market for issues like this, just before MTN office; infact, your mum must've gotten the sim from them; it's risky buying a fresh sim from them (same applies to those hustlers at Markafi Plaza) they do lots of things in the name of "Sim Registration".
In cases like this, they're your surest bet. They'll find a way of resolving the issue. Just keep #1000. If you price well sef dem go do am for #500.

Politics / Re: Aso Rock: History Of The Presidential Villa (Pictures) by GideonVIBES(m): 2:44pm On Sep 10, 2020
The last picture labelled as "entrance" is actually the Presidential Banquet Hall.

Truth is, the tale of Aso Rock perfectly depicts the reality of the Nigerian State; where the leader and his aristocratic lieutenants are totally shut off from the people. Aso Villa is a fortress, meant to protect the leader from the led. Built for a dictatorial leader. The functionality of the complex is tailored for dictatorial use; a fortress, shut off from the rest of the world.

Asides the main State house Courtyard, that Visiting officials normally use and the banquet hall used for events, the rest of the complex are literally No Camera zones.
Even Google Map doesn't have a perfect answer.

Then, these pics are actually way too outdated. There's been serious changes across the complex (so I heard).

OP, please what's the basic salary of ASPs after POP from the NPA Wudil? I have a cousin brother who's been pursuing the admission for some time now.

On your case, at the age of 32 you've got the greater part of your life ahead. I always feel deeply disappointed whenever I meet young-blooded and seemingly intelligent lads who waste their lives as ratings in the different arms of corps; in a nation where being a rating is tormentous
I know ratings (Military and Police) who shaved their beards, dropped their uniforms and joined either the Defense Academy or the Police Academy to become Regular Commissioned Officers of the Corps and set their lives on a positive course.

You've got a B.Sc, M.Sc and the advantage of a uniform. Go out there and make moves, for the sake of your children. Remember, while you're at it, hold unto your uniform till you break even.

With the new shake up happening in the NPF: The Police Academy is now producing Regular Commissioned Officers, the force is no longer interested in Short service officers or promoting Ratings past the Inspector rank.

please, answer my question.
Sports / Manchester City's UCL Ban Lifted By CAS by GideonVIBES(m): 9:44am On Jul 13, 2020
Pep Guardiola's side on Monday heard the outcome of their appeal against a two-year ban from UEFA competition for breaking Financial Fair Play rules
Manchester City will be able to play in next season's
Champions League after their two-year ban from UEFA competitions was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The club will still have to pay a fine, which has been reduced from €30 million (£25m/$33m) to €10m (£9m/$11m).
City were initially punished by UEFA in February, when they were banned from competing in the Champions League or Europa League for two years and given a €30 million fine for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

In its initial statement confirming City's punishment, UEFA said that it found the Premier League club guilty of "overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012 and 2016."
A statement from the CAS said City did not overstate their sponsorship contributions but did fail to cooperate with UEFA authorities.
UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations aim to maintain the financial health of European football clubs in order to avoid ruination of teams. This is effectively achieved by limiting the net losses a club is allowed to make over a specified time period.
The ruling also has an impact on the clubs currently below City in the Premier League table.
If the ban had been upheld, the team finishing in fifth place - currently occupied by Manchester United - would have qualified for the Champions League, with Europa League qualification extended to sixth and seventh.
City immediately denied the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB)'s findings and initiated an appeal against the decision at the first opportunity, with club CEO Ferran Soriano emphatically declaring: "The allegations are not true. They are simply not true."
UEFA's investigation into the matter was prompted by the publication of a number of allegations by German magazine Der Spiegel, which drew on documents said to have been obtained by whistleblowers Football Leaks, in 2018.
Animosity has been bubbling between the Premier League giants and European football's governing body for almost a decade now, and the latest clash has further strained the relationship.
Fans of City have made a habit of booing UEFA's anthem when it is played ahead of Champions League games, something that has intensified since 2014, when the club first fell foul of Financial Fair Play.

LEGAL ADVICE NEEDED.

I bought an MTN SIM, registered it with my correct details, recharged it ,activated it and started using it since last two weeks.
The problem started when different people started calling me, people I dnt even know and never had their numbers. This particular lady will call me and start speaking Hausa from the beginning to the end.from my life little knowledge of Hausa,I can understand her calling me BARAWO (thief) .this lady in particular has frustrated me with calls that I am now confuse with life.
The other issue is,when I try to save numbers on the Sim,it bounces back(does not save),even though the Sim card has just two numbers are n it.
Finally,I called my Uncle working with NNPC yesterday with the number and I was shocked at what he said.He said from his true caller,it is not my name that displayed.I tried calling another friend that uses true caller just to realize that it wasn't my name that appeared.
Because of all these,I seriously need legal practitioners to look into this and tell me if to Sue or not.this is my WhatsApp number-08120572518

If you're sure the sim wasn't registered with your bio data then dispose of the sim.

If the sim was registered with your details, you need to get to the nearest MTN office and make a documented complaint.

First, I'm of the opinion that the question wasn't necessarily eliciting objectivism, To understand the VP's position you'll have to first Understand the internal dynamics of our government structure (it's basically an issue with the Presidencial System wherever it is found).

A VP is basically a spare President. His boss determines the extent to which his powers extend: that's exactly why you'd find that Chiefs of Staff always wield more power within the corridors of power.

Secondly, while I've never been a fan of the Buhari/Osibanjo marriage, the short time PYO acted in Buhari's stead (Acting-President) I would've given anything to see him continue.

Finally, I wasn't aware the VP owed the Christendom anything.
