Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has dismissed the possibility that the strongman of Kano politics, Rabiu Kwankwaso, would join forces with President Bola Tinubu for him to win a re-election in 2027.

Galadima said the Tinubu presidency has treated Kwankwaso and the NNPP badly in Kano by backing the ousted Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, despite his removal by Governor Abba Kabir of the NNPP.

“How can a Kwankwaso be a friend of the APC with what they are doing to us in Kano? Appointing two emirs in one town? There is a Federal Government emir and a state emir. Who’s got the responsibility to appoint emirs and pay them their salaries?

“They have their emirs. They have not less than 40 pickup vehicles filled with mobile police guarding the Emir (Ado Bayero).

“In some localities in Kano, they are killing people and taking their handsets, and the police are tied down. Are they not ashamed?” he asked.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned its members against publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, warning that such actions amount to anti-party activities and breach the party’s constitution.

In a statement on Friday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described recent endorsements by prominent members as “a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our party.”

“Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances — including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election — in violation of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party,” Ologunagba said.

The warning follows open declarations of support for Tinubu’s second-term bid by PDP figures including Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State governor; and members of the PDP Osun State caucus.

Citing Section 10(6) of the party’s constitution, Ologunagba stressed that no member is permitted to undermine the PDP’s interests or activities, adding that such conduct has fuelled division, disaffection, and loss of members.

A former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Peter Ameh, says the pulse from northern Nigeria shows that the people of the region accept presidential hopeful Peter Obi and his single-term proposal.

According to him, the former Anambra governor seeking to be elected president in 2027, isn’t coming to learn on the job, and he does not have an it’s-my-turn mentality like President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

For the former IPAC chair, Obi’s character, competence and empathic leadership made him accepted in northern Nigeria.
