2023 Labour Party Presidential Campaign Spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has called out recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), labelling the defectors as “professional criminals” and likening their political behaviour to the changing taste of palm wine.

Okonkwo did not mince words when describing a recent defection rally held in Delta State. “You have seen the drama on the official defection to APC,” he said. “On that podium, you saw men convicted by the Supreme Court for bribery and corruption in dollars in the name of integrity.”

He accused some of the high-profile politicians on the podium of facing corruption charges, evading accountability, and having their “surname now classified as dollar.” He went on to describe the APC gathering as “a subset of professional criminals made up of suspects, accused, and convicts.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed on X that two people died and two of the 19 injured were in critical condition.

Brooklyn Bridge did not suffer any major damage and was reopened after a preliminary inspection.

Police said they believed "mechanical malfunction" and a power cut had caused the collision.

The New York Coast Guard said the Cuauhtémoc lost all three masts. All personnel on the ship had been accounted for and no-one had fallen in the water.

The vessel, which measures 297 feet long (91m) and 40 feet (12m) wide, according to the Mexican navy, sailed for the first time in 1982.

The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has said “Every African in their country, are they satisfied with the political system they have and the democracy they have, they will tell you no. Why? Because it is contrary to who we are, absolutely contrary.”

He noted that every successful country has developed a system of government tailored to its unique context, citing Arab nations and China as examples of countries that rejected Western political models.

In his debate, Shina Oyedeji (PDP, Oyo) said if the rotational principle is included in the constitution, every state and tribe in the various zones will begin another round of agitation for fairness and justice.
