ssaengine: South African Special Task Force is one of the best trained police units world wide. Forget Africa. This is an internationally known fact, and goes beyond any small South African or Nigerian egos on this thread. Google it. what an irony.one of the best in the world and you can't lower your country's crime rate(one of the highest in the world, internationally known). and pls if you check my post I never mentioned Nigeria. what i mentioned is Algeria and Tunisia. so when it comes to ego nobody do it better than you south Africans(we are best in everything) . |

Politics › Re: Nine Power Plants Shut, Shiroro, Jebba Lose 245MW by giles14(m): 1:37pm On Dec 08, 2016 |
osahonmk: https://www.energywatchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/power-plant.jpg
Nine of the nation’s 26 power plants did not generate any megawatts of electricity on Wednesday, coupled with significant reduction in the generation from two of the hydropower plants and several others.
The Shiroro Power Station in Niger State and Jebba Power Station in Kwara State saw their output fall to 300MW and 381MW, respectively, down from 450MW and 476MW on Friday, according to industry data obtained by our correspondent.
Unit 411G3 of Shiroro was out for water management, while 411G4 was out on maintenance.
Jebba’s unit 2G4 was also out for water management and 2G6 due to burnt generator winding and automatic voltage regulator.
Generation from Egbin, which is located in Lagos, with an installed capacity of 1,320MW, was said to have been limited to 160MW as of 6am on Wednesday, largely due to gas supply shortages, compared to the 172MW recorded on Tuesday, November 29.
The nation recorded another total system collapse on Sunday, December 4, the second in less than two weeks. The national grid had collapsed on November 24, the data showed.
The total national power generation fell to 3,251MW as of 6am on Wednesday, down from 3,574.2MW on Monday, November 28.
The power plants that were idle included Olorunsogo II in Ogun State and Ibom Power in Cross River.
Other plants, which did not generate any megawatt of electricity, were Afam IV & V, Odukpani NIPP, Trans-Amadi, AES, ASCO and Gbarain.
Olorunsogo’s units GT1, 2, 3, 4 and ST2 were said to be out due to gas constraints, while ST1 was out on maintenance.
The GT1 unit of Ibom Power was out on guide vane problem, while GT2 and 3 were out due to maintenance of the gas station for 45 days since October 21.
Twelve units of Afam IV & V were said to have been de-commissioned and scrapped; units GT13, 14, 15 and 16 were out on blade failure; GT17 and 18 were out due to burnt generator transformer; while GT19 and 20 were awaiting major overhaul.
Odukpani’s GT1 was shut down due to low excitation; GT2 out on maintenance; GT3 tripped on fire alarm; GT4 out due to unit transformer problem; and GT5 out due to gas constraints.
Trans-Amadi’s GT1, 2 and 4 were out due to gas constraints and GT3 out on fault, according to the data.
The AES was said to be out of production; ASCO’s GT1 was shut down due to leakage in the furnace; and Gbarain’s GT2 was out due to gas constraints.
http://www.energywatchng.com/nine-power-plants-shut-shiroro-jebba-lose-245mw/ but Lagos has crude oil n gas so why is the Egbin powerplant still been starved of gas. d same goes to alaoji powerplant in abia n the other one in imo . we need to decentralize power in dis country |

Henry240: The Jamboree is even too little. The streets of Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, Lagos, Port-Harcourt and Enugu should have been decorated with balloons and confetti.
You guys simply are unaware or just plain oblivious of the symbolism of this purchase. For the umpteenth time, nobody is celebrating the aeroplane. That's not what this party is there for.
We are celebrating the fact that when Nigeria was on her knees, it was Pakistan, no other country who rendered us unreserved, frank and open help. The Pakistanis were there for our country when our traditional Western allies led initially by Hilary Clinton (thank goodness she lost), would see nothing than have Nigeria burn.
It wasn't because we didn't have money, we had money, lots and lots of it, but they would not sell, they wanted Nigeria too burn so much that they tried to kill third party transactions. Our plane filled with arms was simply refused entry into Saudi airspace.
The Pakistanis were everywhere for NAF. What did they not send, just pick your choice. When every other person, African and non-African pointed a finger at us, Nigerians, and laughed.
So if you guys think NAF is been wasteful, and we are throwing some unnecessary Owambe, then you lot are clearly mistaken. I'm telling you this party is even too small. OK apart now I understand,we are celebrating our Pakistani friendship. if not the hand/take over of the trainer aircraft celebration is uncalled for. |

Henry240: @Giles14 this is for you. The CAS specifically read your comment.
CAS denies Agusta AW 101 helicopter crash landed in Makurdi
The Chief of Air Staff, CAS, Sadique Abubakar, has disclosed that the Agusta AW 101 helicopter handed over to the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, by President Muhammadu Buhari, was used to convey the 21 Chibok girls released by Boko Haram from Maiduguri to Abuja, adding that it was not true that the air craft crash landed in Makurdi, Benue State. Speaking with some online journalists in Abuja on Saturday, he explained that the aircraft landed successfully in Makurdi, but only had problem while taxiing to park. He also debunked speculations in some quarters that the pilots who flew the helicopter caused the incident, stating that they were the ones who had been operating the aircraft while it was still in the Presidential Air Fleet, adding that the pilots were the ones that used it to successfully fly the released Chibok girls at night.
According to him, “What happened in Makurdi was not a crash. Immediately we received the aircraft, we took one of them to Kaduna to paint it into desert camouflage. They removed the seal of the President and painted it into a combat machine. When they finished the painting, they were supposed to go to Maiduguri but they needed to go to Makurdi to pick certain things before proceeding to Maiduguri. So the aircraft took off from Kaduna, landed perfectly in Makurdi, they were just taxiing to go and park when the incident happened. I don’t want to preempt whatever investigation that is going on.
“Those same pilots were the ones that picked the 21 Chibok girls that were moved out in the night and brought them back to Maiduguri and from Maiduguri to Abuja. So accidents happen and we are investigating to find out why it happened and we will make it public when we get the picture of what really happened.”
While extolling President Buhari for surrendering the aircraft to NAF, Abubakar stated that there are few persons who can give up such comfort, adding that the President realised that the air force had need for it. His words, “The Augusta 101 was given to the air force from the presidential air fleet. It is a wonderful aircraft and for the president to surrender and give out his comfort for us to go and remove those comfortable chairs and convert the aircraft to troop carrier, there are very few people that can surrender that kind of comfort so that our troops can use the aircraft. “He has realized that we needed the aircraft to be able to move. If you look at the size of the Northeast, it is quite huge. We were very happy when the president said take these two aircraft and convert it. We have people who have been flying the aircraft because the Presidential Air Fleet, PAF, is ran by the air force including the president’s aircraft. So it is not as if people were not trained; people were trained and right now. We invited the manufacturer of the aircraft to see how we can convert it from a presidential aircraft to troop carriers and ambulance. “In fact, one of the airplanes were used to recover the 21 Chibok girls. One of the air crafts is what we used to fly them from where they were released in Maiduguri and subsequently to Abuja. And it was in the night that our pilots flew them. So what I am saying is that accidents will always happen no matter what you do.” The Air Chief went on to reply those who criticise the Nigerian Air Force for still retaining old aircraft, explaining that such persons are ignorant of what the Service passes through before it can acquire new aircraft or the equipment. This was as he disclosed that the procurement of aircraft equipment is shrouded in a lot of politics. According to him, “Sometimes I see online comments ‘why is Nigeria operating these old aircraft, I just laugh’. I say the man is ignorant because he doesn’t know. Even if you have your money to buy an aircraft, you might not see one, not even an aircraft, spare parts and that is why we are forced to go into R and D (research and development). “To get just quotation: please tell me how much is this aircraft, it might take you four months to get response depending on the type of relationship you have with the country or wherever you are buying these things. So it is not an easy thing. People will say why are you not buying F16, why are you not buying these aircraft. “Even if you have the money, the manufacturer may decide not to sell to you, we have human rights issues for instance; they can use whatever excuse not to sell to you and you go back with your money and that is why we said look, we know what we want, we know what we have. we know the gap between what we want and what we have. “So what we need to do now is to put up a strategy that will help us to make the best of what is available. We have an air force plane that can be used for training and fighting. But all the while we have been using it for training, we know this aircraft can actually carry objects, it’s there in the manual; we know it but we have not been using it because there was no need for it. “But when we have challenges here and there , we put back the weapon system and activate it and we train our guys to fire with that aircraft.”
https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/225781/cas-denies- agusta-101-helicopter-crash-landed-makurdi Oga Henry no mind the CAS do they ever agree on any thing. every international defense news outlets reported it.so its either the CAS is economical with the truth or the chopper that crashed is not the AW101 |

Fidha254: Tanzania
Tanzania’s military is on a fast-tracked modernisation programme. In September, President Jakaya Kikwete said his administration is “in the process of acquiring modern air force equipment, which includes attack helicopters, modern aircraft and other high-tech gear.” Early this year, the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces received new hardware from China, including Type 63A amphibious tanks, A100 multiple rocket launchers (a range of 40 km and 120 km) and Type 07PA self-propelled mortars. According toJanes Defence Weekly,Tanzania is also seeking to strengthen its air and naval defence capabilities to defend its newly discovered offshore petroleum resources and secure its territorial waters from piracy and illegal fishing. In 2013, Tanzania threatened to go to war with Malawi over oil exploration activities in Lake Nyasa/Malawi which is disputed by the two countries. Last year, 14 new J-7Gs fighter jets ordered in 2009 were quietly delivered from China as part of the modernisation programme of the country’s air force. the air force should have gone for the jf17 I believe d Chinese would deliver on time |
