Religion / David Oyedepo: I Didn't Endorse Atiku by gimmehear(f): 10:34am On Oct 15, 2018
The presiding bishop of the Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel, David Oyedepo, has denied endorsing the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2019 presidential election.

Oyedepo was present when former President Olusegun Obasanjo endorsed the PDP presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections last week.

This led to insinuations that he was also in support of the presidential ambition of the former vice president.

Speaking at a Sunday church service in Canaan Land Ota, Ogun State, Oyedepo said he was invited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s residence for a peace parley.

His words: “I am aware Winners are in every political party in Nigeria but I don’t belong to any party. I was only invited to make peace. I don’t force myself on people because I am too busy.”

Atiku lamented the rising rate of killings in some parts of the country especially in Plateau State: “The recent killings in Plateau State ýis a moral assault on our nation. Nobody is qualified to be morally right, if he does not have feelings for loss of lives. I know how many times I cried over the killings in Nigeria. Some people claimed responsibility and nothing happened to them.

“The effect of the 30 months civil war is still with us. We won’t see war again in Nigeria. Those who want to see it, will be cut down.”

Politics / Plateau Youths Burnt Down Houses Over LG Election Results by gimmehear(f): 7:31am On Oct 12, 2018
PLATEAU ELECTION: YOUTH BURNT HOUSES DOWN OVER RESULTS

Irate youths protesting the outcome of Wednesday’s local government election in Plateau State have burnt down four houses in Langtang South Local Government, the News Agency of Nigeria is reporting.

A NAN correspondent, who covered the Thursday protests, reports that the youths were angry that the results of the polls were not declared at the local government collation centre.

A top security personnel told NAN that the youths, who were waiting for the local government Returning Officer to collate results brought from the wards, got enraged when Governor Simon Lalong announced on Radio that the winners would be sworn in by 2pm.

“They were shocked when a candidate they claimed did not win the polls was announced as the winner,” the source said.

According to him, the protest began peacefully with the youths chanting war songs and accusing the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission of “cheating” as they marched through the streets.

The security personnel, who craved anonymity, told NAN: “But the protest turned violent when some youths decided to attack the houses of those they suspected had connived with PLASIEC officials to ‘steal’ their mandate.

“Within a very short while, three houses belonging to some prominent persons and an official of PLASIEC were burnt down by the irate youths.”

He identified houses burnt as belonging to Andrew Sambo, the Electoral Officer that conducted the election in the area, and one Jackson Ponzhi, a prominent politician.

Also burnt was the residence of Nicholas Vongsin, a former Chairman of Langtang South Management Committee, as well as the local government chamber, where results of the elections from the wards were to be collated and announced.

Speaking on the development, Domle Simon, Peoples Democratic Party Vice Chairman, Plateau South, blamed the state government for the destruction recorded in the area.

Simon said: “The governor should have allowed the electoral officers to collate the results.

“The decision to swear in those that clearly lost the election was an invitation to chaos and anarchy.

“I am almost 70 years old and have been in this town all my life, but I have never seen anything like this.”

Simon advised the state government to always be mindful of the effects of their actions on those they have sworn to lead, adding that leaders should always remember that they would give account of their actions in the hereafter.

Contacted, Terna Tyopev, spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, said he had heard about the crisis in the area but has yet to receive details.

“I have not been briefed by the Divisional Police Officer in the area. If I get the details, I will call you,” Tyopev said.

Politics / Oby Ezekwesili: President Buhari Is Total Failure by gimmehear(f): 3:37pm On Oct 11, 2018
Presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili has reacted to the World Bank report which ranked Nigeria 152nd out 157 countries captured in its maiden Human Development Index (HDI).

According to media reports, the President of the global organization, Dr. Jim Yong Kim urged Nigeria and other African countries to invest massively in education and rely less on handouts.

“This is a very loud message to Africa. Africa needs to invest massively in education. The message here is that Heads of State and Ministers of Finance have to take responsibility,” Kim said at the on-going World Bank Annual Meetings in Bali, Indonesia.

“There is so much waiting for the grants to come. We wait and the activists will help us to tell the donors ‘we need more money, we need more money’. What happens is that in many African countries, if they don’t receive grant, they simply don’t spend on health and education. So we hope that this is a loud wake-up call for the African countries and especially, Nigeria.”

In her reaction, Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education and Solid Minerals said the report is a true reflection of Africa and a sad commentary on the dire situation Nigeria finds itself as a result of protracted bad leadership.

“This is a failure of leadership on the part of this government led by President Muhammadu Buhari. And this failure is, as I keep saying, urgently unsustainable,” Ezekwesili said. “Nigeria has no business being in the lower rungs of the Human Capital Development index, the report is simply the result of a leadership that does not value its citizens enough to empower them holistically.”

“With my experience advising some of the most reform-minded governments on our continent, and building economies across Africa, it becomes even more heartbreaking to see the basic steps we must take to revamp our economy, to revamp human capital investment and to move forward on these crucial indicators. This failure has to end.”

Ezekwesili who is a former Vice President of the World Bank for Africa, has Human Capital Development as one of the cardinal points (oby2019.com) of her campaign.

Politics / South -south Demands For Apology From Atiku by gimmehear(f): 8:23am On Oct 08, 2018
Some youth leaders from the South-South geo-political zone, under the auspices of Niger Delta Coalition for Peace and Progress (NDCPP), has congratulated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over his victory at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential primaries.

The group, in a statement on Sunday signed by Charles Kalada Dan-Jumbo, however, urged the presidential hopeful to consider apologising to the geo-political zone over events leading to 2015 polls.

According to the group, the successful hosting of the presidential primary in Port Harcourt is an indication that the region is peaceful under the leadership of a PDP state government.

They also commended Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, who chaired the Convention Planning Committee, as well as Prince Uche Secondus, PDP National Chairman, for successfully hosting the convention.

“Atiku, however, owes the zone and former President Goodluck Jonathan an apology for leaving the PDP in the build up to the 2015 elections, which denied the region a second term at the Presidency.

“Such apology is necessary, even though the zone has forgiven Atiku,” the statement read in part.

The group also noted that the exodus of Atiku and other PDP leaders to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was partly responsible for the loss of the 2015 presidential election.

“Suffice it to say that the geo-political zone has always played a pivotal role in the shaping of the character and content of the nation.

“The just-concluded primaries, adjudged the best so far, was midwifed by Niger Delta people and hosted in the zone.

“This can be displayed in the key roles great sons and daughters of the region have played in the history of the country.

“Painfully, we all pretend like yesterday never existed, especially those of us who were key actors in disposing of the previous government.

“Today, we must learn to apologise for our wrong deeds to rebuild trust, else everything we present now is on a fallacious foundation.

“Apart from Atiku, we also call on others, including the Senate President Bukola Saraki as well as Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Rabiu Kwankwaso, among others, to tender an apology to the region and former President Jonathan, for denying the region of a well deserved second tenure.

“Their action was due to impatience and misconstrued perceptions, especially since that same government took us from a weak economy to the number one economy in Africa.”

The group stated that the efforts and support toward the emergence of Atiku by leaders of the South-South zone was an indication that they had put the events preceding the 2015 elections behind them.

Politics / Apc Aspirants To Sue Oshimole For Fraud by gimmehear(f): 7:29pm On Oct 07, 2018
APC aspirants to sue Oshimole for fraud

A senatorial aspirant in Ekiti State, Sir Kayode Otitoju, has said he will sue the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole, and the national working committee of the party over alleged “shoddy handling the senatorial primary in Ekiti North District of Ekiti State.”

Otitoju also said he would take a legal action if the candidate declared as winner of the ticket, Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi, is recognised by the party.

Adetumbi was said to have polled 21,763 in a direct primary election and was declared the winner of the election conducted in Ekiti North by Dr Ibrahim Sule-led APC Senatorial Primary Committee in the State, on Friday.

Four House of Representative’s aspirants from the same district namely Bimbo Daramola, George Fakiyesi, Bunmi Ogunleye and Femi Ajayi, had on Saturday also protested the conduct of the primaries, and decried that the election was manipulated by the committee sent from Abuja to conduct the primary.

Otitoju, while registering his protest at the APC party Secretariat in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, said there was no election in the five local governments that constitute the district on the day, alleging that the figures were concocted in Adetumbi’s favour using security as a cover.

Otitoju, a former Commissioner for Information in the state, from Odo Oro in Ikole Local Government demanded that the NWC should cancel the primary or in the alternative declares him the winner on account of his unblemished track records and having come from a council that has not produced a Senator since the advent of democracy in 1999 in the district.

He explained how political thugs working for one of the aspirants had allegedly slapped and manhandled him at the party Secretariat on Friday while making spirited efforts to lodge a complaint before the committee.

Otitoju called on the governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayem,i to rein in those who have been hiding under his influence to perpetrate electoral heist in the party, in spite of the former Minister’s insistence that he had no anointed aspirant in the primary.

“There are two options left for the party under this circumstance; it’s either they order rerun of the primary by not recognising Senator Adetumbi or declare me the winner on personal recognition.

“Out of the five local governments in Ekiti North, only Ikole has not produced a Senator since 1999 and this may be an opportunity to ensure political balancing because there was nowhere in the 56 wards where the election was held, it was brazenly concocted in Adetumbi’s favour and this can’t stand.

“The electoral officers came to Ikole that day and when they heard that some people were shooting, they took cover at the Area Commander’s office and by the time normalcy returned around 4 pm, heavy rain started and the officers returned to Ado Ekiti.

“When I saw that they were going, I gave them a hot chase to our secretariat and I lodged a complaint with the Committee’s chairman and the state chairman of our party, Barrister Paul Omotoso. I was even slapped by a thug for daring to stay to confront the panel. Two journalists who tried to interview me were also beaten and their phones and iPad were smashed.

“As an aspirant, I bought nomination form at the cost of N7 million at the party’s Secretariat in Abuja. 90 APC members across the five councils in our district signed for me, including 56 ward chairmen. I was duly screened and cleared for the contest and I don’t think it was right to have been treated this way.

“I have made my demands, which were clearly stated and if the party goes ahead and recognises Senator Adetumbi with that fake results, I will have no other choice than to go to court to seek redress.

“The party’s guidelines stipulated that we should seek redress using party organs, which I have done and the next stage will be going to court if the party leadership at the national fail to do what is just and right,” he disclosed.

Politics / President Buhari Advises Losers To Emulate Ambode by gimmehear(f): 7:16pm On Oct 07, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated winners of All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries across the country, urging losers to demonstrate sportsmanship by accepting the outcomes without bitterness or resentment.

“In every competition, someone has to win and someone has to lose, but those who lost should not abandon the party or lose their enthusiasm for the advancement of the party,” the President said.

President Buhari advised Nigerian politicians to learn from several aspirants like Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State “who despite his loss didn’t abandon APC for another party because he was angry over the outcome of the gubernatorial primaries.’’

The President said that: “the larger interest of our party is greater than our individual ambitions, and we should therefore work together for its success, despite our losses.’’

According to President Buhari, “in politics, we shouldn’t lose hope permanently because tomorrow could present another opportunity for us to contest again and win.’’

He advised the losers of the primaries “to always put the party first because we are in it together to serve the country, and I am always proud of our members who demonstrate sportsmanship and a good party spirit.”

President Buhari also enjoined the winners “to show grace in victory instead of mocking the losers, as such action is capable of destroying party unity and cohesion. The tent is large enough for us.”

He added that “those elected should see their positions as a public trust instead of abusing their mandates to amass personal wealth at the expense of the ordinary voters who voted them into power.’

Politics / Ogun APC: Oshimole Is Forcing An Aspirant On Us by gimmehear(f): 9:43am On Oct 03, 2018
The Ogun APC, chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday complained about the “frustrating and unsatisfactory treatment” meted out to it by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party over the governorship primaries.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, expressed the position at a press conference in Abeokuta.

Adeoluwa who described himself as a stakeholder in the party said he addressed the conference on behalf of the party and all the good people of the state.

The SSG recalled how the party in the state had once adopted the direct mode of primaries and later changed to indirect mode because of non-availability of essential materials, such as an updated membership register and membership cards necessary for the direct mode.

He said the state chapter later reversed its decision and embraced the direct mode in conformity with the directive of the NWC of the party.

Adeoluwa noted that the NWC had continued to postpone the exercise which was originally scheduled for Saturday for the third time without official notice to the state party secretariat.

“For the third day running, the NWC has been rescheduling the governorship primaries and we have only been hearing this from the camp of one of the aspirants.

“On each occasion, we have mobilised our people, deployed facilities and arranged necessary logistics costing huge funds, time and energy to ensure a successful primary.

“Today, we have even shut down public primary and secondary schools when we thought it would finally hold since the Election Committee from Abuja arrived in Abeokuta on Monday.

“We were surprised that the exercise has also been postponed as one of the election committee members whom I spoke with said the committee was under instruction from the National Chairman to reschedule the primaries for Wednesday.

“The committee member also informed me that they had brought ballot papers for the governorship primaries,” he said.

Adeoluwa argued that the idea of using ballot papers for the conduct of direct primaries runs contrary to the party guidelines on primary elections..

“It appears there is a script being directed by the National Chairman and we have it on good authority that he is determined and desperate to force a particular aspirant on us,” he alleged.

He said the party would not participate in the primaries unless the NWC officially writes to the state chapter to affirm a date and explain why ballot papers should be used for the direct primaries.

Adeoluwa who pledged the support of the state for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 polls, urged him to call Oshiomhole to order.

Politics / Omisore Sold Osun To APC by gimmehear(f): 12:28pm On Sep 26, 2018
Omisore sold Osun to APC, to formally declare in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Right from the beginning, I knew and expected that the Osun re-run election is a way for APC to focus on their master plan for the win.

So the news has reached us from a reliable political source that an aspirant from Osun, the person of Omisore has confidentially sold Osun out to Apc.

Below is a the list of things which were offered to Isidore.

Oshiomole, Fayemi, Ganduje, Ajimobi, Badaru Abubakar Of Jigawa State, Amosun deliver 480 Million Naira Cash to Omisore,He was offered Automatic return ticket to Senate, Two House Of Reps ticket for his deputy and former minister of Police Affairs, Two commissioners in Oyetola’s cabinet and to drop all EFCC cases against him and return his International passport, which has been with EFCC for almost a year.

The meeting was sealed in Ibadan, Omisore to officially declare for APC in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Tinubu and Aregbesola were noticeably absent from the meeting.
So my point of view now is how true and real will this be?

Politics / Saraki: I Know The Formula For Pdp To Win Lagos by gimmehear(f): 5:03pm On Sep 18, 2018
Nigerian Senate president and 2019 presidential hopeful Bukola Saraki said he has the formula for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to produce the next governor of Lagos state in the 2019 elections.

Lagos state since 19 years of democratic rule has been governed by parties spearheaded by the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who was governor of the state from 1999 to 2007.

Tinubu has been a major determinant on successive governors and governments in the state, having endorsed current minister for power, works and housing Babatunde Raji Fashola to succeed him and the emergence of the incumbent Akiwunmi Ambode.

But, Saraki, who is a presidential aspirant of the PDP, said he possesses the strategy on how to neutralise the influence of godfathers in Lagos state.

The Senate president said this during his nationwide consultation with PDP delegates at the party’s secretariat in Lagos state.

“What you have been fighting for many years, you will have it during the coming election because you now have somebody that has intention and charisma to deal with those disturbing you,” Saraki said.

“I have a medicine of the man who regards himself as the godfather of Lagos State. We have their formula, come next year, PDP will take over Lagos.”

Saraki warned Nigerians to be mindful presidential aspirants promising to restructure the country if elected into power, noting that restructuring could not be actualised by the president alone.

He said restructuring agenda requires the input of the legislature.

Saraki said, “Many aspirants will tell you that they will restructure Nigeria, but don’t let them deceive you because restructuring is not something only a president can do because certain laws also need to change.

“So you need a president that has the political sagacity to carry people along,” he said: “But there are very few aspirants today that possess such charisma. Once I assume office, I will devolve more powers to the state.’’

Politics / Senator Ademola Adeleke: Why I Was Absent From Osun Governorship Debate by gimmehear(f): 9:52am On Sep 17, 2018
Why I was absent for Osun Debate.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke, has explained why he was absent at the 2018 Osun State governorship debate which held in Osogbo, the state capital on Sunday.

Adeleke’s seat was empty throughout the two-hour debate.

He said he did not refuse to show up as widely believed, but was “held up by the electorate in the places where he had gone to campaign on Sunday.”

Adeleke was one of the five candidates picked and invited for the debate which featured the All Progressive Congress candidate, Gboyega Oyetola; ADP candidate, Moshood Adeoti, ADC candidate, Fatai Akinbade and SDP candidate, Iyiola Omisore.

Speaking to newsmen on the phone on Sunday nght, the publicity director of the Adeleke campaign organisation, Olawale Rasheed, said while they were on their way to Osogbo, a community where they had gone to campaign blocked the highway.

He said they (community) had been marginalised all these years and that there had not been developments in their area.

“To our surprise, while we tried to skip the small towns and villages as we made efforts to meet up, they started trooping on the road; As I am talking to you now, we are just entering Osogbo,” Rasheed explained.

“We did the same thing at Ikirun, trying to avoid some villages, then we had a backlash from the voters, they insisted that they wanted to hear the man (Adeleke) personally speak to them.

“The last village that we attended at Ife East, they were complaining that they had had no light for years, they trooped to the road and blocked our path and this was around 7.30 p.m.

“What we did was to send a message to a correspondent of Channels, and later I sent a message to Seun Okinbaloye (Channels presenter). We are just entering Osogbo now as I speak to you.

“It is not that we are intent on not attending, no. We need to reach the voters and need their votes. And when they block the road and they say you can’t go, what do you do?”

He added that Adeleke made efforts to reach the people, “given the fact that reaching the people was fundamental in defeating an incumbent government.”

Osun state money is change to me: Tinubu
Oyetola would rather steal from Lagos not Osun
The former governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, has claimed that Osun does not have his kind of money.

He said this during a visit to the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun.

Tinubu was reacting to reports that he is trying to impose Oyetola, APC’s candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election, on the state so as to use him to siphon money.

He revealed that his sole aim is to take Osun to greater heights, through development, According to him, Oyetola is a reliable person. He may be quiet but the sense he has, he is an encyclopedia of finance.

He will not take bribe neither will he steal from Osun, if he want to steal, Lagos is the beat place to steal, he will not come to Osun.

I’m not insulting Osun state, I’m only trying to force explain to those who feels I’m trying to steal by planting Oyetola in Osun.

Politics / Witness : Governor Ladoja Bought 26 Cars For Volunteers. by gimmehear(f): 7:48am On Sep 07, 2018
A prosecution witness, Mr Abubakar Madaki, on Thursday told a Federal High Court in Lagos that a former governor of Oyo State, Rasheed Ladoja , purchased 26 cars for 14 ex-legislators from the state coffers.

Madaki, an Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) operative, gave evidence in the trial of Ladoja and a former Commissioner for Finance in the state, Waheed Akanbi, over alleged N4.7billion fraud.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Mohammed Idris on Dec.14, 2016, but they pleaded not guilty to the eight-count charge preferred against them by the EFCC.

The judge had earlier granted the two men bail.

At the resumed trial on Thursday, Ladoja’s counsel, Mr Bolaji Onilenla, continued the cross-examination of the witness.

Madaki alleged that Ladoja had instructed the second prosecution witness (pw2) Mr Wale Atanda, to buy 26 cars worth N80 million for 14 legislators in the State House of Assembly who were loyal to him from the Oyo State Government’s {OYSG} account.

Onilenla during the cross-examination asked the witness: “Take a look at Exhibit H25, the requested vehicle information for the cars, what is the date on it.’’

The witness said: “It is dated 2005.’’

Onilenla further asked the witness to confirm that the transaction on the cars was unrelated to that of the sales of Oyo shares, to which he answered in the affirmative.

Onilenla then asked the witness: “Are you aware that the vehicles were given to the legislators on lease?’’

The witness said: “There is no statement showing they paid for them, only Ladoja paid N5million when the bank began to request for the money.’’

Onilenla asked: “Are you aware that the legislators entered into agreements with VT Leasing Ltd., to pay for the cars in installments?’’

The witness said: “I am not aware of any agreement.’’

Onilenla then sought to tender the agreement documents, all of which were photocopies except the agreement between VT Leasing Ltd., and Mr Olayemi Busari.

The EFCC prosecutor, Mr Oluwafemi Olabisi, however, objected to the photocopies tendered contending that they were not original copies, but the court admitted and marked them as Exhibit H32.

Onilenla continuing his cross-examination said: “On the issue of the 600,000 pounds, did you investigate the bureau de change that was allegedly used?’’

The witness said: “The daughter of the first accused was the beneficiary. She admitted getting 100,000 pounds and not 600,000 pounds, so there was no need.’’

Onilenla also asked the witness: “On the purchase of the armoured car, are you aware that Atanda bought the car for Ladoja on the supposition that he wanted it, without asking him?’’

The witness said: “Yes, My Lord, I am aware.’’

Onilenla further asked: “Why then did you not investigate how an individual was able to purchase a car for the government without following due process?’’

The witness said: “We did not investigate that.’’

Onilenla told the court that he needed to produce more documents to enable him finish his cross-examination and prayed the court for an adjournment.

Justice Mohammed Idris adjourned the case until Sept 7 for continuation of trial.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused were alleged to have conspired to siphon and launder N4.7billion from the coffers of Oyo State Government.

EFCC is also accusing them of converting N1.9 billion belonging to Oyo State Government for their personal use through the account of a company called Heritage Apartments Ltd., to facilitate the crime.

The anti-graft agency claimed that they retained the money sometimes in 2007 in spite of their knowledge that it was proceeds from a criminal activity.

Ladoja was accused of removing 600,000 pounds from the state coffers in 2007, which he allegedly sent to Bimpe Ladoja, his daughter, who was in London at the time.

In addition, the ex-governor was also accused of converting N42 million belonging to the state to his personal use and, subsequently, used same to purchase an armoured Land Cruiser jeep.

The accused was also alleged to have converted N728 million and another N77million at different times in 2007, for his personal use.

He was alleged to have transferred the money to Bistrum Investments for the purchase of a property in Ibadan.

The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 14, 16, 17 (a) and 18 (1) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.

GOVERNOR MIKE: APC IS FUNDAMENTALLY MAD.
Posted on September 6, 2018 AuthorTemi Badmus Comment(0)
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to even contemplate presenting a governorship candidate for the 2019 election in the state shows that something is fundamentally wrong with the party.

Wike spoke in an interview at the Government House, Port Harcourt, stressing that aside the plot to rig, the APC has no platform to campaign upon in the State.

“For the APC to think of bringing somebody in this state to challenge me, shows that something is fundamentally wrong with the party.

“What has the Federal Government done for the APC in Rivers State? What has Rivers APC achieved? Mention one thing. Is it in terms of the roads, the airport or seaports?” he querried. He regretted that the APC did not believe in credible polls, noting that rigging and fraud were in the DNA of the party.

“All their meetings, all their gatherings at the federal level, whether by hook or crook, they must have Rivers State. They want to use soldiers, SARs, DSS. All cries by the international community don’t matter. Just take Rivers State first,” he said.

Governor Wike said as a Minister of State for Education, his contributions to the development of Rivers State were scattered across the state.

He wondered why the current Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has failed the people of Rivers by refusing to attract a single project to the state.

Governor Wike said: “When I was minister and he was in APC, I brought development to the state. For example, I brought Faculty of Law to the University of Port Harcourt. I brought grant of N500 million to Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

“I’m from Rivers State and must contribute to the development to the state. As at the time I was in the Federal Government, he was the governor under APC and there was no development in the state. I brought Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) intervention to Rivers State. This is my State.”

Wike said, as governor of the State, he has transformed Rivers, siting key projects across the state. He said his third year anniversary celebration underscored the fundamentals of good governance with leaders across political, traditional and social divides commissioning key projects.

The governor said in October, his administration would commence another leg of project commissioning. He noted that President Muhammadu Buhari would be invited to commission projects, even though he is unlikely to honour the invitation for political reasons.

Governor Wike said contrary to the propaganda of the APC, he is not against the federal government, adding that he is only committed to the fight against injustice.

“That’s the misconception; I don’t stand up against federal government. I stand up against injustice and marginalisation. It has nothing to do with the federal government. If this government is not in place tomorrow, and another government comes and perpetrates injustice, I will stand up against them. It has nothing to do with federal government,” Wike said.

On the alleged media propaganda by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), on the management of Rivers State finances under his leadership, Governor Wike maintained that the law had declared that the EFCC has no power to investigate the state government.

He said: “I’m not interested whether EFCC backs off or not, being a body that does not respect the rule of law. That is what the federal government is all about, impunity. You heard the president say national interest supercedes the rule of law. I’m not against the EFCC fighting corruption, if at all they are fighting corruption.

“My concern is for us to do things in accordance with law. The law says we have a federation comprising the federal government, the states and the local government areas. We go to the monthly federal allocation when money comes to the federation and all tiers take their share. The federal government is now saying the money that comes to states will be monitored.”

He noted that the EFCC could only be taken seriously, if it operates within the rule of law, by successfully appealing the 2007 judgement between the commission and the state government.

“I was not here in 2007, when the Rivers State government went to court against the EFCC; to say the commission has no constitutional power to interrogate the finances of the State government. And the matter was adequately addressed and judgement was given against EFCC. Since 2007; EFCC has been struggling to appeal the judgement. EFCC has not succeeded up till now. What they are doing now is when they feel a government is not pro-Buhari, let’s do this...

Politics / Baifra Warns Nigerians To Stay At Home On September 14. by gimmehear(f): 9:04am On Sep 04, 2018
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Monday, said there was no going back on the Friday next week planned strike

A statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said the strike is meant to express its anger, in memory of those who disappeared, allegedly killed and tortured by the Nigerian Army through Operation PYTHON DANCE 2, last year in Isiama Afaraukwu, Umuahia, Abia State.

The group said its anger was directed at Igbo politicians and Ohanaeze Ndigbo in particular, that allegedly conspired with the army to invade the home of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu with the intention of killing him and his parents, lamenting that their whereabouts still unknown, one year after.

Powerful said: “It has never been recorded in the history of post-independence Nigeria that grand mothers up to 70 years of age were locked up in prison overnight.

He added: ‘‘Shamefully, the Igbo race has acquired another dubious distinction of being the very first people to have their women publicly humiliated and stripped of every shred of human dignity. Who knows what will come next.

“At a time when more bodies of innocent victims of Operation Python Dance 2, killed last year by the Nigerian Army are being discovered in mass graves in Abia State; at a time when we are still burying those killed and dumped in mass graves across Biafraland in September 2017, here we are today with Nigeria military once again, poised to invade the South East, to slaughter the weak and innocent in their annual genocidal ritual in the name of yet another Operation Python Dance 3.

“No sane society or a people worth their salt will tolerate such brazen conquest and humiliation. What was once considered a reprehensible abomination in Igboland is now the norm’,’ he lamented.

Fayemi, has filed his defence to the petition by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and outgoing Deputy Governor of Ekiti State in the July governorship election in Ekiti State, Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka.

In the 2,558-page defence with over 3,000 documents attached as exhibits, Fayemi averred that he won the gubernatorial election of July 14, 2018 and urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition of Prof. Eleka for lacking in merit.

The team of lawyers armed with 3,500 exhibits and 1,009 witnesses were led to the tribunal by three Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Mr Hakeem AfoIabi (SAN), Mr. Yomi Aliyu (SAN) and Dr. Kayode Olatoke (SAN).

Addressing the press after filing the petition, Dr. Kayode Olatoke (SAN), who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said Eleka’s petition was a waste of time as it lacked substance, and expressed optimism that the case would be dismissed by the tribunal.

He explained further that Fayemi won fair and square in 12 out of the 16 local government areas of the state, while Eleka won in four.

In his response to Eleka’s petition bordering on alleged over-voting in some polling units, Olatoke dismissed this claim as frivolous and baseless.

He said Eleka’s first ground in his petition was based on Fayose’s phantom indictment, which had been nullified and set aside by a competent court.

Olatoke continued, “The second ground of Eleka’s petition is alleged over-voting, which is another false claim. In any case, the petition in itself is self-defeating.

“The third ground is on deliberate voiding of votes as alleged by Eleka but in actual fact, majority of the voided ballots were votes meant for Fayemi, while the fourth ground is on vote buying which is baseless as it was, Eleka’s sponsor, Fayose that was guilty of this.

“Fayemi won convincingly based on his popularity,” Olatoke said.

Other senior lawyers in the team representing Fayemi and the APC are: Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Dr. Kayode Olatoke (SAN), Hakeem Afolabi (SAN), John Baiyeshea (SAN), Chief Akin Olujimi (SAN), Jelili Owonikoko (SAN), Yomi Aliyu (SAN) and Segun Ajibola (SAN).

Politics / Senator Jang: Nigeria Can Only Be Restructured When I'm President by gimmehear(f): 9:00am On Aug 29, 2018
Former Plateau State governor and senator representing Plateau north senatorial district at the National Assembly, Dr. Jonah David Jang,(Senator Hang) said he will pursue vigorously the task of restructuring Nigeria if elected president

He lamented that the country was deeply divided along ethnic and religious lines thereby creating suspicion and lack of trust among various ethnic group in the country.

Jonah Jang disclosed this yesterday, when he presented letter of intent to contest the 2019 Presidential election to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I’ve come on behalf people of my constituency, Plateau State, the Middle Belt of Nigeria, and the entire nation. I’ve come to formally and officially announce my interest and decision to join the contest for the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the coming 2019 elections.

“The clamour for restructuring will be addressed, in line with the provisions of our laws. Restructuring and reorganising Nigeria to the comfort of all Nigerians is a task I will face with commitment. If we have operated a system for 58 years and Nigerians are asking for a review of the structures, there is no need to delay it further.

“Today, Nigeria has increasingly become a deeply divided nation, and the bases for our unity are being eroded. We face enormous security challenges emanating from the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, the increased wave of armed banditry, leading to the annihilation of complete, hitherto, peaceful communities, armed communal clashes, religious fundamentalism, armed robbery, insurgency and unhindered kidnapping, among others.”

Jang, who acknowledged cheers from supporters who turned out from across the Middle Belt, said the region has supported and made several presidents, yet, the country has not produced a democratic elected president.

“Our party, the PDP, has zoned the presidency to the North, for the purpose of the 2019 elections. The Middle Belt is at the centre of the North; it is the glue of the North, the bridge of Nigeria, the guarantor of national unity and oneness, and has sustained the North over time.

“Sadly, however, this zone has not produced an elected president under our constitution. There have been arguments in our party recently, to the effect that the zone of the north, with the highest number of registered voters, should be given the presidential flag of the party.

“This is not the position of the party; it is only the opinion of some aspirants. The North Central and Middle Belt also have millions.
