Alibaba’s son and Raskimono’s stepson, says 3 hospitals rejected his mom before her death

Onome Akpobome, the son of comedian Alibaba and the stepson of the late reggae maestro, Ras Kimono, has revealed details of the incident that led to the death of his mother.

In an interview with NET, Akpobome disclosed that himself and his mother’s elder sister visited three hospitals whose negligent attitude led to the death of his mother.

Onome, is the son of Ras Kimono’s wife, Efemena, who had him for Alibaba before she got married to the singer. Narrating the incident, he said: "On Saturday, we went to the beach for my uncle’s birthday.

Nothing went wrong until about 2am, when she woke us up to change over because PHCN had brought the light. She then went upstairs and started complaining of chest pain.

At this point, she started breathing awkwardly. Her elder sister, who is a nurse attended to her and gave her first aid, but her breathing was still laboured so we decided to take her to the hospital.

First, we went to Blue Cross Hospital at Ogba, but the staff we saw were unresponsive. I was shocked to see their unconcerned countenance. When we saw that they were not ready to help us, we left and drove to County Hospital.

A doctor saw her there, checked her pulse and said she was still breathing but that they had no facilities to treat her. So he referred us to Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja.

When we got to the hospital at about 4am, they also wasted our time for over 40 minutes and by the time they were ready to treat her, she had stopped breathing. .

The pain is worse for me because none of the three hospitals treated the case as an emergency. In fact, I have given up on Nigeria because they all had up to three hours to save my mum.

How can over three hospitals in Lagos not have the right facility to treat breathing problems? None of them even had a stretcher, I am just totally done with this country."

A Grade 1 Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja on Tuesday, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Senator representing Orlu Zone, Imo West Senatorial District of Imo State in the Nigerian Senate, Hope Uzodinma.

The presiding judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, issued the arrest warrant following a criminal complaint filed before the court by Chima Akuzie, and his company, Chitek Ventures Ltd., accusing the senator of issuing N200m dud cheque to them.

Uzodinma and his companies – Smiec Engineering and Chemical construction company and Niger Global Engineering and Technical Company Limited – are named as the defendants in the direct complaint marked, CR/358/2018.

The judge, acting under Section 478 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, had entered a “not guilty plea” for Uzodinma and his companies.

The judge explained that the arrest warrant was issued against the senator after his alleged consistent absence from court to answer to the direct criminal complaint pending against him.

He noted that the senator had refused to show up in court despite evidence of being served with a court summons.

The court made the order on the heels of an oral application by a lawyer to the complainants, Oluwatosin Ojaomo, who noted that Uzodinma was absent in court despite being represented on the previous date by a lawyer, Eze Oguaju, and being aware of the proceedings slated for September 18.

Oguaju was absent from the Tuesday’s proceedings.

The complainants alleged that Uzodinma subcontracted to them a shore-line protection contract in Koko, Delta State, which the senator was said to have got from the Niger Delta Development Commission.
