GistMore.com President of a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Monday dissolved an 11-year-old marriage between one Jimoh Ibrahim and Barakat over unrepentant dirtiness and waywardness. Odunade held that the court was puting an end to the relationship between Jimoh and Barakat due to loss of love between the couple. “The marriage between Jimoh and Barakat has ceased to be in the interest of peaceful coexistence. “Custody of the eight year-old child produced by the union is awarded to Barakat and Jimoh shall pay a monthly allowance of N5,000 for the child’s upkeep in addition to being responsible for his education and other welfare of the child,” the arbitrator said. Earlier, Jimoh, a businessman and a resident of Oja-Iba area in Ibadan, told the court that he could no longer cope with his wife’s dirtiness and adultery. “For 11 years now, I have waited over and over to see whether Barakat would have a change of mind in her bad attitude or not. “Instead, Barakat’s dirtiness worsened such that I had no option than to be cleaning the house and washing our wears myself. “I also have to bathe our child and do every other necessary things in the house. “As if those are not enough, Barakat now move around with a gang of riffraff for the purpose of prostitution. “My lord, she followed men to distant places like Ghana, thus abandoning her responsibilities at home,” he said. The petitioner also said that the respondent was highly disobedient and disrespectful. “She is so disobedient and disrespectful not only to me, but also my relatives. “Barakat has no time to look after any child,” Jimoh said. The respondent did not oppose the divorce suit nor deny any of the allegations against her. Barakat, who lived at Odo-Oba area of Ibadan, however, told the court that her husband’s intention to seek for divorce was not new. “Whenever there was any disagreement between Jimoh and I, he packs his property to his parents’ home. “In fact, I usually go and beg Jimoh in his parents’ home to return to our own apartment,” Barakat said. GistMore.com Popular comedian and actor, Koffi Nuel, popularly known as Koffi Tha Guru, speaks to JOY MARCUS about comedy and other issues in the entertainment industry You have been in the industry for over a decade. What has helped you remain relevant? It has been God’s grace, consistency, persistence, originality, and a genuine fan base. Also, I have been able to render quality and value-added services to my clients. How did you start your comedy career? I started comedy just for the fun of it at neighbourhood birthday parties in Bariga, Lagos, at the time. Then, when I got into the University of Lagos, I did comedy at departmental events till it blossomed. Who gave you the first opportunity? I don’t think any established entertainer gave me a platform. I moved up the ranks in my theatre club in UNILAG from being an assistant soundman, crowd filler, music and dance director, opening act for stand-up comedians, and finally a supporting actor. How were you able to surmount some of the challenges you faced at the start of your career? I had to stay responsible for my people to see that I was on the right path. My dad was not as worried as my mum but eventually, she saw the bigger picture after my first show at Muson Centre in 2004. When you started comedy, did you know you would eventually delve into music and acting? Not at all; it was a gradual metamorphosis. I trained as an actor in a group called Theatre 15 and I picked music along the way. The support of family and fans also encouraged me. It is believed that many comedians repackage jokes of their colleagues. What’s your take on that? Most people are stuck in the same circle of comedians. They should make an effort to seek out people outside their box. New things happen every day and comedians are talking about them. The number of comedians in Nigeria today is not as much as the individual events happening daily in the country but we seem to concentrate on a chosen few, thereby stretching their limit and stressing the system. This invariably puts pressure on the comedians to deliver, hence appearing everywhere with almost the same materials. Others follow suit with similar habits and same materials to stay relevant. Meanwhile, if the events are spread across the board, you would see a potpourri of talents with diverse content. Do you share the opinion that social media comics are gradually taking over from stand-up comedians? There are different areas of comedy, and everyone have their paths. John Okafor (Mr Ibu) and Nkem Owoh (Osuofia) are still in business though Alibaba seemed like a threat in the early days. Today, Ali is in business and people like Lasisi Elenu are also in business. No one is taking anybody’s market. An online comedian cannot function as a stand-up comedian, same way a stand-up comedian can never be Saka or Frank Donga. You seem to have been out of the scene lately. What have you been up to? I have released a huge body of work in the past few years. My ethnic variety show, Awada Express, has been a viewer’s delight on Africa Magic for the past two years. Throughout 2016, I ran a monthly comedy night live as a platform for up and coming talents. Blame whatever you don’t see on mainstream media. Lately, they seem to select who they want the world to see. What are some of the projects you are currently working on? I just premiered a new movie on June 12 titled, Mumble Jumble, and we are set for a campus tour to reach our targeted youth audience. A new music video, Just a Fan, was released on April 1. Also, Omije was released last year after the Otedola Bridge fire incident. My UK comedy tour will kick off this year too. Why do you think comedians fade off the scene too quickly? Perhaps the Nigerian factor of business sustenance. Hardly can you find any corporate brand surviving beyond 10 years. A comedian is also a brand that any of the prevailing factors can affect. Also, comedians do not generally succumb to kissing butts to stay afloat or do any form of industry associated nuances. How do you think the government can promote the comedy industry? Government sincerely has more on its hands to deal with, hence the inability to see the potential of the entertainment industry as a whole. If the government can provide subsidies, have intervention funds and revive certain platforms to conform with current trends, a lot of comedians and entertainers will find their footing. What do you think an entertainer must do in order to remain relevant? To be relevant in the industry, you need to be original, persevering, persistent and most importantly, prayerful. GistMore.com Former Big Brother Nigeria housemate, Princess Onyejekwe, recently called out actor and television presenter, Uti Nwachukwu, after he declared Cynthia Nwadiora, popularly known as Cee-C, the most successful housemate of BBN 2018. Princess had on Thursday taken a swipe at Uti through a comment posted on her Instagram page. She said, “I felt that as a former housemate, he should know better than to make a comparison. It’s just unnecessary. “Many housemates have gone through a phase of depression, insecurity, anger and regret. They have also moved past it and got stronger. You can’t come and start this unspoken trivia now. It’s not cool.” While contacted over the matter by Saturday Beats, Princess said that she was not trying to court controversy but only interested in putting things right. She said, “Different people can read a particular meaning to an issue. What I wrote has nothing to do with Cynthia; it would be different if he (Uti) was not a former housemate. “If it was a random celebrity talking; I wouldn’t mind because the person hasn’t experienced it. “For someone that has been to the BBN house to openly put an outright comparison amongst people in the same cadre is not the best choice of words. “He should have praised her without using words that would make others seem not at par. “Cynthia is doing great and I am doing great and there is no hate. However, somehow, the whole thing escalated; it has nothing to do with me hating Cynthia’s success; I feel he should have done better. “Even when Forbes brings out a list of successful people; they rank it in their own established scale and rank their net worth to how much they know about them, it doesn’t mean that some people are not richer than others. “Hate is not the motive here; I felt he should have known better; it could start a crisis, riots are instigated by what people say. “It is my opinion. I am saying no one should put a yardstick to success. It is just like putting one religion ahead of another. I feel it is unnecessary.” Speaking further, Cee-C noted that unlike some of her colleagues, who had gone into acting; she decided not to follow the same path because she wanted to gain some financial stability. She said, “I was able to set up my beauty brand after the experience in the BBN house, I am proud of myself for achieving that feat. “Interestingly, people think I wouldn’t be at my store because I am a BBN star. I am always there because that is where my income comes from. “I have thought about acting but I don’t like the idea of being broke or not having my financial sanity, so I decided to establish something that I can make returns from before chasing a career in acting. “I am a businesswoman; I need a structure that provides for me before chasing being in the spotlight.” Comparing her experience in the BBN house to child delivery, the young lady noted that she dealt with insecurity and self-esteem issues after she left the reality show. She continued, “I believe everyone in life has expectations but we have different phases of growth. “I had my fair share of criticisms; reality shows like Big Brother puts you in a confined environment which naturally changes things; it is not something that can be explained to someone; it is just like childbirth. Some people felt I should have done things in a particular way. “I had insecurity and self-esteem issues at some point; when in the Big Brother house; you go in and you don’t know what might happen when you come out. “It is difficult and emotionally draining; you need a high level of counsel to go through that. “I had to deal with these emotions myself and get past it. Being a housemate takes a toll on your emotional quotient. I was able to overcome that through self-discovery, reflection and meditation. “I had to read more books and speak to experienced people to get over it. It was tough but the beauty is that you come out stronger. “I don’t think anyone can outshine me; there is a lot of space for everyone to be individually great without competition; I don’t have that mindset.” Debunking rumours that she had to go under the knife to get a perfect body; Princess told Saturday Beats that such talks were not worth her time. She said, “Nobody has really come out to ask me what I did with my body and until they come out to do that, I don’t feel the need to grant anyone a response. “I didn’t do anything to endanger other species on earth, whatever I did was with me. They are rumours and it is fine; that is what happens when you are in the spotlight.” Reacting to the matter, Uti, in a comment on his Instagram page, said, “To those offended, calm your nerves. No harm meant. “When you are proud of someone, you will give all the accolades you can, especially when you remember the bashing you went through for your support. “So, let me rephrase and edit: CEE-C is one of the most successful housemates of BBNaija 2018.” See more: http://gistmore.com/no-issues-between-cee-c-and-me-princess-ex-bbn-housemate
