Troops of the Operation Thunder Strike have rescued six students of the Government Day Secondary School, Gwagwada in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State abducted on their way to school on Thursday morning.

The Deputy Director Public Relations of 1 Division Nigeria Army Kaduna, Col. Ezindu Idimah, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Kaduna.

Idimah also revealed that three motor boys were rescued while four suspected bandits were neutralised by the troops.


Idimah said, “The Troops who were on routine patrol in the general area received information from a reliable source that some bandits terrorising the Abuja-Kaduna highway have waylaid some students on their way to school and abducted them.

“Troops immediately swung into action and gave the bandits a hot chase.

“On sighting the troops, the bandits engaged them in a firefight but had to surrender to the superior firepower of the troops.


“Following the firefight, one of the bandits was neutralised while the rest scampered to different directions of the forest with gunshot wounds.”

He explained that all the students abducted by the bandits were rescued safely and reunited with their families.

Idimah added that one AK47 rifle with seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and a pump action gun with ten cartridges were recovered by the troops.

According to him, the troops are currently combing the entire forest in search of the bandits.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, on Wednesday, arrested motorists driving against traffic around Carter Bridge area of the state.

According to reports, he was on his way to deliver a lecture at the Lagos State University, LASU, when he saw the motorists moving against traffic.

Irritated by their actions, he alighted from his vehicle and personally arrested the erring drivers before handing them over to men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA for prosecution.

Bisi Fayemi, wife of the Governor of Ekiti State Kayode Fayemi, has narrated how she was sexually harassed in the University, in reaction to BBC's hour long #sexforgrade documentary which exposed randy lecturers in some Universities in Nigeria and Ghana.

Bisi said she was luckier than some of the victims because hers didn't go far, but she noted it was an unpleasant experience.

The Ekiti state First Lady who has already opened a register to name and shame sex offenders, stated that watching the video made her realize that it is time to speak up and speak out for sexual abuse victims and not silence them because the culture of silence has endured enough. She added that most lecturers feel they are entitled to the body of their female students.

“I cried because what this young women have experience is the story of many of us who passed through higher institution in this country,” she said.

“I was educated here in Nigeria and I too was a victim of sexual harassment during my university days. I was luckier than these victims. It didn’t go that far but it was extremely unpleasant and of course back in the days when all these things happened you can’t tell anyone because if you do even up till now people ask you to keep shut.

“You know people don’t talk about things like this. I was watching the documentary and there were three words that came to me, one is voice, it is time to speak up and speak out and for those who do we need to stand with them and stand by them and not silence them because the culture of silence has endured enough.

“Another word that came to me was accountability, we need to be accountable whether there are parents, guidance or teachers or leaders in any form through out the different section of society. We have to be accountable for the well being and health of the young people in our care, from when our children come to say mummy, uncle so so and so touched me and instead of asking further to find out what’s its all about, we should act.

“There has to be accountability and the third thing that came to mind was justice, justice for victim or I choose to call them survivors and so those of us who have worked in the women’s whether at international level or Africa or national air in Nigeria, we know that we have many law and policies in place that are supposed to guard against things such as this but this law sometimes means very little because there is inadequate political" she said.

The dramatic Paris gems heist in which Kim Kardashian was tied up and robbed of jewellery worth some nine million euros is set to be made into a movie.

Titled “Fashion Week”, the movie will be adapted from a 130-page graphic novel that cult French writer and director Joann Sfar has written but which has yet to be published.

Kim Kardashian was threatened with a gun, tied up and gagged in the bathroom of a luxury residence in the French capital where she was staying during fashion week in October 2016. Eleven people have since been charged in connection with the robbery, the biggest heist of one individual in France in two decades.

Despite the wave of arrests of mostly well-known and ageing French career gangsters, only one piece of jewellery has been recovered. A total of 9 million euros ($10.6 million) worth of jewellery was taken. One of the teams of five robbers who forced their way into Kardashian’s apartment dropped a diamond-encrusted cross worth 30,000 euros while he was fleeing the scene on a bicycle. It was found by a passer-by a few hours later.

The suspected ringleader, 61-year-old Aomar Ait Khedache, told investigators he had struggled to find a buyer for Kardashian’s 18.88-carat ring, which she had flaunted on Instagram.

The producers said the film, which will be co-written by “Moloch” screenwriter Marion Festraets, has been “in development since the beginning of the year” and talks were going on with distributors.

French police are still trying to track down the missing jewellery, and believe part of the loot was sold in Belgium. Last year Kardashian’s insurance company launched a $6.1 million lawsuit in the US against her former bodyguard Pascal Duvier and the company he worked for, ProtectSecurity, for breach of contract.
