Last weekend in Florida, an eight-year-old boy was playing with his father’s rifle when he fatally shot a baby and injured the infant’s younger sibling, according to police.

According to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, the father, 45-year-old Roderick Randall, was detained and charged with concealing evidence, unlawful possession of a firearm, and culpable negligence.

The tragic event, which is all too often in a nation where guns are everywhere, happened in a motel where Randall met his fiancée. Randall had a criminal record that prohibited him from carrying a pistol.

His girlfriend had brought her two-year-old twins and her one-year-old daughter, while he had brought his kid.

At one point, Randall went out and left his weapon “in the closet,” said the sheriff during a press conference. Knowing where it was hidden, his eight-year-old boy took it out and started playing with it while the girls’ mother was asleep.

“He pulls the gun from the holster, starts playing with it and fires a round into the one-year-old toddler, ultimately killing the one-year-old. The bullet then goes through and strikes one of the two-year-old toddlers who’s injured but is expected to recover.”

Before the cops came, the father exited the room with the gun and an unknown material that was probably narcotics.

The infant girl’s death is the most recent in a horrifying string of incidents.

“Every year, hundreds of children in the United States gain access to unsecured, loaded guns in closets and nightstand drawers, in backpacks and purses, or just left out,” according to a recent report by Everytown For Gun Safety.

“With tragic regularity, children find these unsecured guns and unintentionally shoot themself or someone else.”

The group, which supports tighter gun control laws, calculates that these “unintentional shootings” by children result in an average of 350 fatalities annually.

More generally, according to the website Gun Violence Archive, weapons are responsible for about 40,000 deaths annually in the United States, including suicides.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has found how Chief Afam Mallinson Ukatu, a reputed billionaire drug baron, allegedly brought two containers containing 1,284 cartons of Tramadol into Nigeria.

The same Ukatu was previously identified by the NDLEA as the mastermind behind a N3 billion Tramadol shipment related to Abba Kyari, the former police chief.

The pharmaceuticals were imported in a single month, October 2019, with a market value of nearly N22 billion, according to the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi.

“To counter insinuations by some hirelings that NDLEA has no evidence to put a crime on Ukatu, who is the Chairman/CEO of Mallinson Group of firms,” Babafeni said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Ukatu was apprehended on board a flight to Abuja at the MM2 terminal of the Lagos airport, Ikeja, on Wednesday, April 13th, after months of surveillance.

“The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has said that an ongoing investigation of a billionaire drug baron, Chief Afam Mallinson Ukatu, has led to the discovery of how the suspect imported into Nigeria in a single month, October 2019, two containers containing 1,284 cartons of Tramadol with a market value of over N22 billion,” according to the full statement.

The Agency announced this in a statement on Tuesday, May 3rd, in response to claims made by some hirelings that the NDLEA lacks evidence to charge Ukatu, the Chairman/CEO of the Mallinson Group of firms, with a crime. On Wednesday, April 13th, after months of observation, Ukatu was apprehended on board a flight to Abuja at the MM2 terminal of the Lagos airport, Ikeja.

He was a big importer of large consignments of various brands and high dosages of Tramadol Hydrochloride, ranging from 120mg, 200mg, 225mg, and 250mg, all of which are illegal, according to investigations. Ukatu owned pharmaceutical and plastic manufacturing businesses that he exploited to smuggle illegal substances into Nigeria.

The Agency said its operatives have uncovered more evidence indicating how Ukatu has been importing enormous quantities of Tramadol much above the permitted threshold allowed into the country while probing the N3billion Tramadol controversy between Ukatu and the Abba Kyaris IRT team.

The Abia Police Command has reported that a notorious thief known as “Bouncer” was electrocuted while stealing from a church in Aba.

“Bouncer” was electrocuted while attempting to steal the church’s electrical appliances and other equipment, according to SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Abia Command Police PRO.

Despite the fact that the police did not have his genuine identity, Ogbonna said his body had been deposited in a mortuary.

If someone has no right to occupy a room in your house without your consent, I think it’s wrong for any ethnic group to occupy any portion of another man’s land without consent, authority, or approval. It won’t end well for the people who made such incursions. Why should someone just enter into my bush and settle down? What of the plans I have for the land? Should I pay someone who is not a stakeholder before I can dwell on the land my ancestors had been on for centuries? It may result in something terrible soon?
Igbo could be found all over Nigeria likewise Yoruba but they all live in towns not secretly entering into a dark Forest with arms. Why those who enter Yoruba forest come with arms shall be discussed but not on a round table. I am sure of that.
Yoruba have two options: it is either
Yoruba vacate Yoruba land and move into the Atlantic ocean so that their host can have peace

An unspecified amount of decayed foreign currencies in the house of a deceased Customs Officer in Kano included US dollars and UK pounds sterling among others was yesterday recovered.

Under the Earth’s surface covered by polythene bags were the heap of the recovered currencies. This was revealed during refurbishments of the house near the FCE Kano in the customs quarters.

When the officer of the deceased was alive without informing relatives or associates the currencies were supposedly buried.

The deceased was one of the senior officers in the Nigerian customs office at Kano, though the name and rank of the officer were not made public.

Kanu is also a British citizen, as you may recall. Kanu was caught by Nigerian officials in an East African country on Wednesday, according to POLITICS NIGERIA. He was quickly extradited to Nigeria.

When asked about the issue and the “Consular Assistance” that can be provided to Kanu, Dan Hurlock, a spokesperson for the British High Commission in Abuja, referred to a booklet titled “Support for British Nationals in Nigeria.”

The book details guidelines on British Government support to nationals in other countries. The book states;

“We can offer you information about the local prison or remand system, including visiting arrangements, mail and censorship, privileges, work possibilities, and social and welfare services. We can also explain where there are different regulations for remand prisoners and sentenced prisoners. For example, in some countries, prisoners are allowed to send more mail when they are on remand.”

“We cannot get you out of prison or detention, nor can we get special treatment for you because you are British. If however you are not treated in line with internationally accepted standards we will consider approaching local authorities. This may include if your trial does not follow internationally recognised standards for a fair trial or is unreasonably delayed compared to local cases.”

“With your permission, we can consider taking up a complaint about ill-treatment, personal safety, or discrimination with the police or prison authorities.”

Following the recent arrest the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to grand him presidential pardon.

The call was made by the former Presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party, NCP, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese. has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to grant presidential pardon to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, right away.

He equally advised Buhari to look beyond prosecuting Nnamdi Kanu, adding that the Federal Government should use his re-arrest as an opportunity to negotiate the birth of a new functional Nigeria.

According to him, the IPOB leader is not alone in raging agitation for secession in the country, adding that if Kanu is put out of circulation, another leader might soon emerge to shoulder the struggle for Biafra.

Justice Binta Nyako gave the order after counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Shuaibu Labaran, told the court that the defendant (Kanu), who jumped bail, had been arrested and produced in court.

Ikubese disclosed this in a statement titled, “Nnamdi Kanu: An Opportunity for National Rebirth,” and issued to newsmen in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The statement reads in part, “Perhaps, the biggest news in Nigeria right now, is the re-arrest and arraignment of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“Rather than stick strictly to the pursuit of the prosecution of Kanu, I am of the humble opinion that his re-arrest should be used to negotiate the birth of a new functional Nigeria.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria, however, needs to look beyond the prosecution of Kanu into the bigger picture.

“Kanu didn’t start the agitation for Biafra.

“There was Odumegwu Ojukwu of the Nigerian Army. There was Ralph Nwazuruike of MASSOB.

“Even if Kanu is put out of circulation, the spirit of Biafra will yet soar as another leader might soon emerge to shoulder the struggle, for the Igbos believe that the present polity of the Nigerian state as presently constituted, suppresses their development and liberty.

Recall Reno Omokri, a former adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has intimated that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been re-arrested in Kenya.

He disclosed the the United Kingdom, UK, was not aware of Kanu’s rearrest and extradition to Nigeria.

In a tweet, Omokri said the government official disclosed that Kanu’s detention was illegal.

Omokri wrote: “I just spoke with a top UK government source. Nnamdi Kanu was NOT arrested or extradited by the British.

“According to this official, Kanu was “almost definitely arrested in KENYA” and “it was an illegal detention”. I won’t reveal my source, but I have him on record.

Kanu was rearrested on Sunday by a combined team of Nigerian and foreign security operatives.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Malami had disclosed this during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

Chidinma Ojukwu has now made a confessional statement as the sole killer of Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga while naming an internet fraudster who assisted her in falsifying the deceased documents.

At a chance meeting with the 21-year-old lady, she said she wished she would wake up to discover that the whole drama was only a dream.

Chidinma said: “ I have never had peace since the day I was arrested. Never in my wildest imagination did I envisage I would kill a human being. I see his face in my dream every night. At times I would be scared to sleep.

“I have been begging God for forgiveness. This is not what I wanted for myself. I don’t know what fate holds for me.

“I am also begging his family to forgive me, especially his children. Ah! God, what have I done?” she exclaimed, burying her face in her palms.

While maintaining her stand that she carried out the dastardly act alone, Chidinma told detectives at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Yaba that she was able to overpower the deceased because he was weak.

She revealed that late Usifo became weak after taking three wraps of Rohypnol while she took one wrap. She stated that she strangled Usifo before stabbing him.

Chidinma Ojukwu latest claim has confirmed the Ataga family’s insinuation that Usifo’s neck was discovered to have been broken during an inspection of his body in the morgue.

Meanwhile, detectives are on the manhunt for a suspected drug addict and internet fraudster (names withheld), who Chidinma claimed to have assisted her to falsify the deceased’s documents after she escaped from the service apartment in Lekki Phase 1, abandoning Usifo’s lifeless body.

She disclosed that the deceased earlier gave her his Automated Teller Machine, ATM, card to withdraw some money to buy some clothes but that she did not withdraw much.

Thereafter, she said she contacted the internet fraudster to help her withdraw more money.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has commenced the continuous voter registration across the country.

NG Times News Online can report that this Continuous Voter Registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is geared towards preparation for the 2023 general elections.

Recall that the commission had created 56, 872 additional polling units across the country.

It had also accredited 31 organizations to observe the CVR, while 20 more applications were being processed.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the registration which will be carried out continuously for over a year until the third quarter of 2022, will be targeting at least 20 million new voters.

While threatening to prosecute any citizens who provided false information during the exercise, INEC had said it would be deploying 5346 officials to 2673 registration centers.

The chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, also said the security of the personnel was very paramount for the continuous voter registration

He had said, “We are concerned about the security issues in some parts of the country. The commission would be deploying 5346 officials to 2673 registration centers. What happens if any of these staff is abducted?

“Our responsibility is to conduct credible election and also protect our staff. The security agencies are also facing challenges and there have been concerns that INEC officials might be target of criminals.”

He said the commission had also made robust provisions for Internally Displaced Persons who might have misplaced their Permanent Voter Cards due to insecurity.

The INEC chairman also stressed the need for massive advocacy and publicity to ensure that citizens are familiar with the new polling units ahead of the 2023 general elections.

According to new information, the late Super TV CEO, Usifo Ataga was not assassinated only by Chidinma, a 21-year-old UNILAG student.

Dr. Isi Ataga said on Monday that his brother, Super TV CEO Usifo Ataga, was chained, gagged, and tortured before being rubbed out.

According to NG Times Online News, the deceased’s body was discovered in a hotel room where he had spent the night with Chidinma Ojukwu, a 300-level student at the University of Lagos, who admitted to killing him.

In a statement headlined, “Who will speak for Usifo Ataga?” Isi asks, “Who will speak for Usifo Ataga?” questioned if the murder was committed by a single individual due to the method in which it was carried out.

He said, “Usifo died a horrific death. He wasn’t stabbed two or even five times; he was stabbed multiple times. His hands were bound tightly and the marks were still all over his wrists, accompanied by evidence of torture and assault even as his corpse lay in the morgue.

Following the recent policy adjustment of the federal government of Nigeria to introduce E-Passport which will ease the burden off Nigerians who suffer to get international passport, mixed reactions have trailed the U-turn made by the Rauf Aregbesola-led initiative.

Recall the rigours of getting a Nigerian passport can be listed among 1000 ways to die! Haha! Just joking. However, the truth is that getting a Nigerian passport in recent times has become a major nightmare for Nigerians at home and abroad. For Nigerians at home, there is constant excuses of the booklets being scarce; for our compatriots abroad, they are victims of incompetent embassy staff and frequent breakdown of online application forms.

Seeing the myriad of challenges encountered by Nigerians trying to get passports, the minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola came up with a new plan to ensure that most problems are fixed within the vicinity of every individual — which meant every Nigerian doesn’t have to travel to Abuja, Lagos or other big cities to have a passport. The ministry had also said it had perfected plans to ensure the citizens can procure or renew their passports in each of the 774 local government areas.

In the words of Rauf Aregbesola, the minister of interior, ” Every Nigerian has the right to a Nigerian passport… the passport should be available in maximum of 72 hours of successful application. Where there are issues, the applicant must be notified within 48 hours”.

With these words, came the new enhanced e- passport. The new enhanced e- passport was not just available to those in Lagos, Abuja or Rivers, residents in the 33 other states could also get their passports at their comfort zone. To avoid being cheated or manipulated by fraudulent immigration officers, application process for the Nigerian passport is online now. No one needs to pay to any immigration officer anymore to get their passport process done.

The new enhanced e-passport appears to be more decentralised i.e., it is no longer limited to Lagos or some other big cities. It is also time-saving; you don’t need to go to the immigration office or see an immigration officer, you can go through the whole process online independently. The new passport also has a fixed amount for the three different categories of passports. For those who desire express service of 24 hours to 72 hours waiting time can visit any passport express centres.

The Synagogue, Church of All Nations, SCOAN has appointed Evelyn Joshua as Prophet T.B Joshua’s replacement.

According to African News, Evelyn Joshua, the late founder of the Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), has now been appointed to serve as the church’s general overseer.

The report further said the elders of the church met and declared Everlyn the successor to the Nigerian televangelist TB Joshua.

“Someone must take charge immediately and give spiritual direction on the mode of service continuity. So much spiritual and financial efforts went into building SCOAN and it cannot just waste away,’’ the news outlet quoted a top aide of the deceased cleric as saying.

Evelyn, who met T.B Joshua over 30 years ago, is claimed to have always served as her husband’s second in command.

Evelyn is a preacher who also provides therapy to the congregation.

Until his death on June 5, 2021, the couple had been married for 31 years and had three children.

Chidinma Ojukwu, UNILAG student who was responsible for the death of Usifo Ataga has confessed to stabbing Super TV CEO.

Recall NG Times reported that a 21-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Chidinma Ojukwu has narrated how she stabbed the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, to death in the Lekki area of Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial city.

The UNILAG student recently spoke at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday after she was paraded as a suspect by the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.

However, the family has threaten to sue Nigerian journalists.

The Oduduwa Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo wide referred to as Sunday Igboho, has vowed that no hinderance whatsoever would stop Oduduwa champions from storming Lagos on July 3 for a mega rally.

The news of the Igbos in the South East wanting to succeed is nothing new and seems to be gaining momentum. But everyone seems to be quick to point out the bad side of the Igbos breaking out from the Nigerian state.

Even some prominent Igbo politicians don’t seem to be in support of a secession. One of such persons is Rochas Okorocha, former governor of Imo state.

He stated that Igbos have a lot to lose should the country breakup. He made these comments in Abuja in Abuja on Saturday. He pointed out that Igbos should push towards fixing the country and not its disintegration. He advised the Igbos to be nationalistic and antagonistic to anything disintegration.

He said: “It is only an Igbo man that goes to a place and remains put in that place, buys a land and builds a house for his family without feeling insecure. The Igbo’s will lose more if Nigeria divides.”

“Most Nigerian leaders who were successful had one thing or the other to do with the Igbo ethnic group. It is either they married Igbo women or had some links with them. I can call names like, former President, Obasanjo; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Buba Marwa, just to name a few”.

The Igbos should probably follow Rochas advice; disintegration might not be the solution.
