Ebube Gladys Essien-Garricks was a 27 year old student when her life changed forever! She chose N64 million instead of a plane from MTN, and she hasn’t looked back since YNaija caught up with the Malaysia based winner to talk about her suitors, studies & of course how she spent the money. ebube-garricks-birthday Ebube at her 29th Birthday Celebration on October 3 How the ‘win’ was celebrated It was really an amazing thing that happened to me, I’m yet to get over the excitement. Not any one can be lucky like I was and I am still very grateful to God. My family threw me a party to celebrate but it was an in-house thing, it wasn’t an elaborate one, just private family celebration. We didn’t invite outsiders to avoid being kidnapped, lol. You have been off the radar, why is that? Yes and that’s because I am presently studying business information system in Malaysia. I left Nigeria in May, 2013. But you were already studying at the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology Yes but I had to quit, I couldn’t go back to complete my studies because the whole winning incident made me popular in school, everyone would point at me, try to be friends with me and all….. I was known all over which the school and I had to leave for security reasons, I didn’t feel safe. After paying your tithe offering, what was the first thing you bought from the money? I let it breathe fresh air in the bank, then I bought lots of land…I didn’t acquire houses or cars because that is not the main thing for now, moreover I’m not available to look over them so I settled for lands, it’s a safer investment. I would acquire the other properties with time. And your parents? I have settled my parents and I am taking good care of them but let me point out that we were doing okay even before I won the money; we had our own family house before then too. You didn’t go shopping at all…get new stuffs, change your wardrobe? Yes I did. I changed my wardrobe, bought new stuffs for me and my family but I’m not a shopping freak. What has changed about you since the win? Nothing much. I am still the humble me, the person I used to be. The money doesn’t make me misbehave because God detests the proud. Let’s talk about your love life. After you won the money, you said you had lots of toasters… Hahahaha it gave me headache. They all came because of the money you know…many of them got my contact from my sisters, they would call me to make empty promises, one of them even went as far as saying he’ll build a big house for my mum and also take me abroad, imagine! ebube-garricks3 They went as far as calling to ask my parents if I am married…but it’s all good now, since I relocated here, everything has died down. I am now in a relationship and I will get married in due season. Would you return to Nigeria after your studies or settle fully in Malaysia? I will only visit. I am working on being an international business woman, but don’t ask me what I intend supplying, lol. So have you exhausted all the N64 million? Haba, no not really, I still have some left. Any advise to the Nigerian youths Youths should be patient and wait for their time, God’s time is the best, thank you! for more visit: http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/29/winner-of-mtns-win-an-aeroplane-promo-2-years-later-suitors-studies-how-she-spent-the-money/

Following his declaration to run for political office in Lagos State – things haven’t exactly been hunky-dory for suave actor Desmond Elliott – who has found it hard to convince fans that he is really from Lagos state. Speaking with City People on his reasons for joining politics, he explained that joining politics for him is an ambition he has been nursing for many years but only joined since this is one of the appropriate time to declare his intention. In his words.. “Politics has been in me for many years but I wanted a party which was progressive. My choice of APC was because its stronger and progressive. The party is one you can identify with. This is also a good platform and a good party. It has lots of programs that cater for people’s welfare. It has so much differentiated itself from all others. This is one of the reasons why I decided to join the party” he explained. Elliot, who has been mocked for the recent inclusion of “Olushola” to his name revealed that he laughs when people say he is not from Lagos state. “I am from Lagos state. My father is from Olowogbowo in Lagos Island but my mother is from Delta state. I refer to myself as being a Pan-African. People don’t believe I am a Lagosian because I seldom act in Yoruba movies. And I didn’t include the Shola in my name. Then because my surname is also English, many couldn’t differentiate which made people confused of where exactly I am from. I am very detribalised. People of my constituency know my story and know where I come from. I have always used Shola in my primary school days. I went to Air Force Primary School in Plateau and later attended St John’s College, both in Jos. I proceeded to Lagos State University where I studied Economics and graduated in 2003.” he said. http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/27/people-dont-believe-im-a-lagosian-because-i-dont-act-yoruba-movies-desmond-elliot/

Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, who saved Nigeria from an Ebola pandemic, would have been 58-years-old today. The late doctor was born on Saturday, 27 October 1956 in Lagos, Nigeria as the first of four children. Dr. Adadevoh lost her life on August 19, 2014 after being infected with the Ebola Virus Disease by Liberian index patient, Patrick Sawyer who was admitted at the First Consultant Medical Center in Obalende, Lagos, where she worked. She is credited with physically restraining Sawyer from leaving the hospital after the diagnosis was confirmed and put herself at immense risk to ensure that he stayed confined. Her brave actions aided the speedy containment of the disease in Nigeria and the country was declared Ebola-free on October 20, 2014. Dr. Adadevoh will always be remembered for her bravery which saved millions of Nigerian lives. May her soul rest in perfect peace. http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/27/doctor-stella-ameyo-adadevoh-would-have-been-58-years-old-today/

In an effort to guard against contracting the Ebola Virus Disease, a United States-based R&B star, Akon, last Sunday climbed inside an airtight blow-up during a performance in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. The singer rolled over the crowd, pushed along by the outstretched hands of 60,000 screaming concert-goers while performing at a concert. The performance was part of a larger free concert held by charity, ‘Peace One Day,’ to help promote and support the United Nations’ International Day Of Peace. Akon was, however, accused of going to extreme lengths to avoid catching Ebola during a concert in Africa by crowd-surfing inside a giant plastic bubble. His action was criticised by a section of the media outlets, describing it as a cynical attempt to shield himself from the deadly virus that is sweeping West Africa rather than just being a creative way of performing closer to his fans. The Source, on its website, however, said, “The Ebola virus is no joke. And to avoid contracting it from anybody, when Akon left the stage to crowd surf with the people that were attending his concert, he did so in a huge plastic protective bubble. for more visit: http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/05/akon-performs-in-giant-bubble-to-avoid-ebola/

ANN ARBOR – WPXD-TV reported an Ohio woman wants to burn a cross in front of Chicago sperm bank’s office after claiming she was inseminated with a vial from what she called a “ghetto monkey” (racist slur for African-American) donor despite ordering a vial from a white donor. Molly Cram says her now two-year-old daughter, Watermelon, has caused major problems with her beliefs. “The neo-Nazi community don’t want me now. My daughter’s a disgusting little half-breed with baboon lips and she’s going to hell cause she ain’t pure. But part of me still loves that little half-human, cause she’s mine and all, but this ain’t good.” Her boyfriend, John Steelhammer, broke it off with the mother. “I love Molly even though she’s now, technically, a n**ger lover, but you know how stupid I look in all this? I didn’t want to tell my white brothers I was shooting blanks, so now they think my girl was cheating around on me with a spear-chucker. My life is really stressful right now.” In April 2012, Molly was wrongly inseminated with a vial from donor No. 330, an African-American man. The sperm bank did send a letter of apology and refunded her money, but Cram says she thinks the mix-up was intentional. “I know that bank giving me a black sperm was a secret plot to embarrass the white race. But these milk duds are going to feel the force of white power. I’m burning a cross and that’s just the start. Hail Hitler!” for more visit: http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/04/lmao-black-donors-sperm-mistakenly-sent-to-white-couple/

Highway Trooper Busted By Citizen For Speeding In this video uploaded to YouTube, resident Brian Miner is pulled over by Illinois state trooper because Miner honked his horn at the officer allegedly because the officer was speeding while yapping on his cellphone. “You tried to pull me over with your horn, not sure what that was about,” the unidentified officer said. “Because you were speeding and had your cellphone in your hand,” Miner responded. “Police officers can actually use technology when we’re driving,” the officer retorted. The officer then asks Miner for his identification and says he’s going to issue a ticket for “unlawful use of horn.” Then Miner tells the officer that he’s being recorded and the officer nervously backpedals and decides not to write him a ticket and then tries to buddy up with the truck driver. “Maybe I was driving too fast. We need to be looking out for each other out here,” the trooper said. to watch the video go to : http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/04/pull-over-highway-trooper-busted-by-citizen-for-speeding-lol/

You can have all the knowledge in the world, but it means nothing without building up the confidence to do something with it. Getting caught up in lots of needless drama. – Some people love to stir up controversy and drama for no apparent reason. Don’t buy in to their propaganda. Stay out of other people’s drama and don’t needlessly create your own. Instead, imagine what would happen if you spent this entire day, and every day hereafter, with all your energy directed toward your most positive possibilities. Rather than being annoyed, be amused. Instead of getting angry, become curious. In place of envy, feel admiration. Life is too short to argue, fight or be negative in any way. Count your blessings, value the people who matter and move on from the drama with your head held high. Seeking approval from everyone around you. – Confident people have no interest in pleasing everyone they meet. They are aware that not all people agree on things, and that’s just how life works. They focus on the quality of their relationships, instead of the quantity of them. So never let the opinions of the masses define who you are or what you can or can’t do. When you let go of the need to impress everyone, that’s when you begin to be truly impressive to the few people who actually matter. And when you earn the trust and respect of these select few people, no matter where you go or what you try, you will do it with confidence – because you know the people who matter are behind you. Making excuse after excuse after excuse. – Have a plan that’s bigger than your excuses. There is so very much to touch, to do, to create, and to experience. Confident people take ownership of their thoughts and actions. They don’t blame the traffic for being tardy at work – they know THEY were late. They don’t excuse their shortcomings with excuses like “I don’t have time” or “I’m just not good enough” – they make the time and they keep on improving until they see results. Even a tiny effort is infinitely more productive than a big, impressive excuse. So stop seeing every obstacle as an excuse and start seeing those obstacles as forming a pathway to your goals. Ignoring or second-guessing your intuition. – Intuition is very real and something that is never wise to ignore, because it comes from deep within your subconscious and is derived from your previous life experiences. If everyone else is telling you “yes” but your gut is telling you otherwise, it’s usually for a good reason. When faced with difficult decisions, seek out all the information you can find, become as knowledgeable as you possibly can, and then listen to your God-given instincts. Believe in yourself. Know that trusting your intuition is equivalent to trusting your true self; and the more you trust your true self, the more control you have of making your goals and dreams come true. Disempowering yourself with weak language. – Confident people use words with intention. Consider the difference between these two aspiring bloggers: One says, “Yes, I am a blogger. You like meditation and yoga too? Excellent! We need to connect – check out my new mindfulness guide I just posted at…” vs. “Well, I am trying to blog but am not sure I am doing it right (nervous giggle). I wish I had started sooner… blah, blah.” Who do you think gets the most views, comments and social shares? Bottom line: If you’re trying to build something or become something, own it and speak like you mean it. (Angel and I discuss this in detail in the “Passion and Growth” chapter of 1,000 Little Things Happy, Successful People Do Differently.) Thinking, “Why me? Why me?” – On the contrary, confident people think, “Why not me?” Sadly though, many people feel they have to wait: to be hired, to be good enough, to be chosen – like the old Hollywood cliché, to somehow be “discovered.” But confident people know that access is basically universal these days (especially if you’re online reading this article). They can connect with almost anyone through social media. (Everyone you know knows someone you should know.) They know they can attract their own funding, create their own products and services, build their own networks of clients and partners, choose their own path – they can choose to follow their dreams. And very quietly, without calling too much attention to themselves, they go out and do it. Needing to always be right. – Confident people take a stand not because they think they’re always right, but because they’re not scared to be wrong. Cocky, conceited people tend to take a position and then preach, argue, and totally disregard differing opinions or points of view. They “know” they’re right (even when they’re wrong) and they want (actually, they need) you to know it too. Their behavior isn’t a sign of confidence, though; it’s the trademark of a bully. Truly confident people don’t mind being proven wrong. They know that finding out what is right is a lot more important than being right. And when they’re wrong, they’re secure enough to back down graciously and appreciate the lesson learned. Talking just to hear yourself talk. – Begging for attention by talking constantly is just another mask for insecurity. Thus, confident people are often quiet and unassuming, and they listen as much if not more than they speak. They already know what they think, so they want to know what you think. Follow in their footsteps by asking open-ended questions on the topic of discussion, and give others the freedom to be thoughtful, introspective and resourceful. Ask questions like: What do you do? How do you do it? What have you learned from it? What would you do differently if you were starting over? And so forth. Ask these questions to learn, because you know a lot, but not everything, and the only way to learn more is to listen more. (Read What Got You Here Won’t Get You There.) Letting success get to your head or failure get to your heart. – If success makes you arrogant, you haven’t really succeeded. If failure makes you determined, you haven’t really failed. Period. Think about success and failure differently. Don’t take everything that goes wrong personally, and don’t get a big head when everything goes right either. Be a humble, life-long learner. Create, enjoy, learn, love, experience, succeed, fail, persevere, make mistakes, make progress, take risks, and find the treasure in each day. Hiding from new life experiences. – Get out there. Let life touch you. Yes, it will hurt sometimes. But the pain will be much deeper if you build an impenetrable wall around yourself – your own 100-foot tall wall of comfort – your own self-inflicted prison sentence. Life is too short for that. Don’t let the fear of making the wrong decision prevent you from making any decision at all. You have too many beautiful places to go. Today is full of possibility. Now, do something about it. Afterthoughts If you only remember two words from this whole article, let them be: “Learn” and “Believe.” Learn: As in… learn through experience. Learn from others. Remain humble, open-minded and teachable. Put yourself out there and let it all sink it. Push yourself to the edge of your comfort zone, so you can expand it and grow a little more confident every day. Believe: As in… believe in yourself and your ability to succeed. Believe in your intuition, especially when you have to choose between two good paths. Believe that the answers are out there waiting. Believe that life will surprise you again and again. Believe that the journey is the destination. Believe that it’s all worth your while. Believe that you are confident enough to see it through. The floor is yours… Which of the points above resonate with you the most? Do you have any other tips for building self-confidence? Leave a comment below and share your thoughts and insights with us. for more visit: http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/04/inspiration-10-toxic-behaviors-that-kill-your-confidence/

Argentinian Julia Alvarez, a 15 year old girl was left disfigured after two jealous girls slashed her face with knives because she was ‘too pretty’. The two girls, who are sisters, have since been arrested. Julia later told police the girls said they wanted to make her look like horror movie character, Chucky.Julia said she was walking home in the town of Juan Domingo Peron, in the northern Argentinian province of Formosa, when the girls aged 18 and 16 attacked her without any provocation. “Everyone says you are pretty. You won’t look pretty when we have finished with you. People will call you Chucky.” – Julia claims this is what the girls told her before slashing her face. After the attack on her face and other parts of her body, the two sisters ran away and left her in the pool of her own blood. She was rushed to the hospital by passers-by. Julia needed dozens of stitches on her face and back to put the flaps of skin back together. The two girls were later arrested after the victim’s sister posted the horrific images in Facebook. The pics went viral in the country and many activists called for the arrest of the attackers. In her Facebook post, the victim’s sister wrote “They were jealous of my sister for a long time and always abusing her and insulting her, but we never expected them to go this far. I have tried to stay strong for my beautiful sister but every time I see her I want to burst into tears. They have ruined her life. “She says she wants to kill herself because when she looks in the mirror she so ugly now. A Le Meridien Hotel valet crashed and completely ruined a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder in New Delhi, India last week. Losing control of the car while bringing it to the porch, he slammed into a parked car, made it spin around a WHOLE BUNCH before ramming into a concrete wall. The hotel refused compensation for the almost $330,000( 53.6 million naira) in damage prompting the Lambo’s owner, Abid Fateh Mohmmed Khatri, to file a complaint against both the valet and Le Meridien. “Just because I drive a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder doesn’t mean I’m rich. I saved up for this car! And they won’t compensate me? I don’t have the money to replace it. I’m not made of money!” Abid Fateh Mohmmed Khatri said. for more news and photos read more: http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/01/gbese-silly-valet-crashes-hotel-customers-lamborghini/

When people are convicted of doing harsh things to children, they might as well get prepared for serious punishment in prison. For example, a 23-year-old child defiler was brutally murdered by two inmates, and the details of the murder will make your mouth drop. According to recent reports, 23-year-old Mitchell Harris, a convicted child defiler, was persuaded into 24-year-old Nathan Mann’s cell where Mann, as well as 33-year-old Michael Parr, brutally cut out Mitchell’s inside organs. Michael Parr sat on top of Harris while Nathan Mann, who was described by a psychiatrist as “a remorseless, callous psychopath” who “harbors cannibalistic urges,” chopped his throat open with a homemade scalpel. Nathan Mann then proceeded to stab Harris in his eyes, and once he stopped breathing, he cutout his stomach. Extremely disturbing reports allege that Parr and Mann wanted to cut out Harris’ liver and eat it, but they couldn’t finish the job once they cut the 23-year-old child defiler open. “It was barbaric. Mitchell’s body was discovered shortly after breakfast,” said a source inside the jail at the time of the murder. “He was in a terrible state. His killers had somehow managed to overpower him, keep him down and keep him quiet before disemboweling him.” Mitchell Harris was sent to jail the year prior to his murder for defiling a young girl. The 23-year-old also had committed a number of other offenses, including r*pe, when he was still a young child. As for Parr and Mann, they were arrested again and charged with murder, and in 2012, they were told by a judge they would die in prison. read more: http://darlingtonblog.com/2014/10/03/23-year-old-child-defiler-brutally-murdered-by-two-fellow-inmates/ |
