Excellent my brother.

I am happy you go to a fine school like Rochester. Now let me ask you this:

People back home believe that American Education is very easy. They say anyone
can graduate from school here. Infact, many people discount the diplomas obtained
from here outright. You have been through the system here and back home.

What message do you have for such people?

That dude doesn't know what he is talking about. I wouldn't take him seriously.

The truth of the matter is your grades in school show cases your intellectual ability and
how serious you are in what you want to accomplish. If
someone graduated with a first class degree and is being outshined at the work place
compared to a third class degree recipient, it is probably because the 1st class holder is
probably more suited for academia than the work place.

It doesn't mean the first class graduate bought his degree at all.

I grew up in Nigeria and I went to school with igbos, so I know what I am talking about. My
statement is not premised on third party hear say as in your case.

Just because you hear people say things about other tribes in Nigeria does not mean they
hate the tribe. Yoruba people talk a lot; even amongst their own ethnic group.

An abeokuta man can say things about an oyo or ijebu man, such that, you would think he
doesn't like them, but abeokuta, oyo and ijebu are all yorubas.

If you think you know all there is to know about this based on what you hear people say in
Germany, then go ahead and preach the word okay.

@germanlady

Who told you yorubas hate igbos and igbos hate yorubas ? Please don't make statements
like this unless you have witnessed it first hand.

Don't interprete any rivalry you read or hear about as outright hatred between igbos and
yorubas. Please !

Quote from edmondo

In developed countries they do not care about what you come with

Who on God's earth told you that ? Edmondo, please don't make statements if you don't know
for certain what it is you are talking about undecided

I can tell you authoritatively that organizations here in the U.S. put top premium on your grades. Some
firms, including some government agencies, would not grant you an interview if you do not have a B average
from university.

Please get your facts straight

FamilyRe: Parents: Is It Time To Spare The Rod? by GNature(m): 8:56am On Sep 10, 2006
Very interesting thread.

When kids are beaten, people often say it is for their own good and when they grow up they will
realise it and be appreciative for the discipline. Well, I'm all grown up now and whenever I recall
how my dad used to beat us as children, I feel bitter.

Parents need to find ways to discipline their children without resorting to beating them. Saying "that's
how I was raised and I turned out okay" does not warrant continuing this behavior.

I don't have kids yet, but I know I won't turn them into punching bags all in the name of discipline.
