The panacea for this problem, is any one staying abroad is whilst ur kids are growing up once in a while have them come see Nigeria. Let them enjoy when they come back to Nigeria. Do not start telling them Nigeria is a shit hole else them no go wan enter. To me it's an investment.
ojesymsym:
This is easier said than done.
Many parents in diaspora get to realize in old age. It is difficult enough to get your kids born in Lagos to know their home town not to talk of those who grew up in such development, it is really hard for many of them to see Nigeria as home, so when the old man decides to return, he finds that he returns alone.
It is a big challenge.

Guys the rate of Naira devaluation is alarming. It seems dollars, pounds and euro wants to sink the naira so fast.

Rule number one, invest in what you know and understand end to end. If it is too juicy it certainly has some traps.

OgogoroFreak:
I wonder too o.

Why would any reasonable person put their money in trash like that and call it "investment"? Now see what some of them are going through.

We invest in the real sector by

1. Starting a business
2. Investing in debts of players in the real sector
3. Becoming a part owner, through equity investment..

Most people talking about investing in the real sector only know about number 1

An investor who invested N1 million in Okomu Oil a company in the Agricultural sector about 15 years ago, has his Investments grown to over N36 million and received dividends of N10 million in the last 5 years. Can we say that person is not investing in the real sector.

Some Investors have realized that there is no point reinventing the wheels
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Godbpraised: 5:39pm On Jul 25, 2020
Great inputs and suggestions. However, one rule I always emphasize is invest in what you know to be honest I no sabi the gold market.

Hence if I put my money I fit loose. So na him make me dey put my money for sukuk. Jejely. Call me a lazy investor grin

Lastly i belive in d principle of do it urself., I do not believe in giving some one my hard earn money to invest for me mba nu. I don learn my lesson.

LandMann:
Sukuk is a bad deal.

For example, if you buy gold now and keep with the money, you will earn more than you will earn from sukuk by the time sukuk of now matures.

That's the only certain investment I know won't backfire.

Others involve you doing your due diligence and starting or investing in a business that would pay you above 14% which is the official inflation rate... or above 20% which is the closer to the unofficial inflation rate.

Alternatively, you can look for excellent financial advisors to advise you if you have a significant amount. The fee you will pay them, provided their advise is solid, is certainly going to be a fraction of what you stand to lose in sukuk.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Godbpraised: 3:43pm On Jul 25, 2020
What would you rather have investors do than invest in sukuk or just allow thier money sit ideal in the bank.

Me thinks investing in the sukuk was a fair deal

.
LandMann:
Investors ought to be rational but I guess being rational is mostly subjective in this part of the world.

Information asymmetry exist so much in our economy that makes making rational decisions difficult. Thus, supposed rational decisions turn to irrational decisions if examined under the microscope of economics. This is worse in the financial sector where most investors just rush at financial instruments offering interest rates that can't even cover for inflation...

Look at sukuk for instance... 11.2% interest rate while official inflation rate is (14%)... unofficial inflation is over 20%.

Would you say that investing in Sukuk is rational given these parameters?

The real sector as represented by the stock market is the another good alternative right now because it also represents individuals pulling resources together to invest in the real sector.

A downside to them is you have to do your due diligence to avoid putting your money into a sinking company.

Salary Earners Quitting Their Job?

I certainly can't suggest that they quit their job... But putting their hard earned salary in interest bearing investments that pay less than 14% is bad investment because they are losing in the real sense.

There will be serious mistakes when you handle funds that is 50 times or more of your capital.

An agric business that is worth N10 million, handling funds of over N500 million. Even the equity/debt ratio of banks are not as highly geared like this

Reason why CBN, SEC and NSE have stringent conditions for cash deposits taking Businesses.

A bank with a shareholders fund of N100 billion can be handling cash deposits of N1 Trillion

As a person, I am against the so called " organise ourselves"..

Sell your phone, gadget car etc and get the seed capital. Get a job no matter how small and save in order to get the seed capital for that business.

Sell your family land in the village to get your seed capital. Use your brothers car as a collateral to get a loan for the expansion of your business.

Better still small operators should combine resources together in order to derive the economies of scale.

How can 100 entrepreneurs have individual Businesses worth N5 million each? Why can't they combine resources to have a N500 million business and they become shareholders of the business?

Portfolio investors will prefer to own 1% of a N1 billion business, than owning 100% of a N10 million business

Well said, I guess government should double up to create the environment for investments. Government is not good at investing that why u see the looting.

The only way government can create the environment for competition and increased investments is that when u av some one at the helm of government who knows about economic investments etc. Not a cattle rearer.

DexterousOne:
Here is what I think
1) The rice ban was sudden, cos there was no lag between intent and implementation of policy

2)If you guys knew that you were gonna ban okada, why collect money from them (GoKada and co.) For regulation and licensing in the first place
I heard even Mc Oluomo (a no good riff raff) was even negotiating how much his body will collect from these companies via ticketing or so....
We do things in a very fo.olish manner in this country

That abrupt ban was a slap in the face
I ALSO HEARD THEY WERE GOING AFTER UBER OPERATORS
undecided

Until we can have a semblance of stability and normalcy in our investment space across different sectors, investing in Nigeria is akin to embarking on a journey into the wild west undecided

Abi oooo. Coz he knows that something would go wrong down the line.
emmanuelewumi:
Imagine a young guy needed 500k for a start up, the person he met said he would give him a loan of 500k @ 20% per annum, but must submit a collateral security that is worth N1 million and above.

The guy though he was smart, he dropped the keys and documents of his car with the lender, until the lender invited him to sign a memorandum of understanding with his lawyer, which will be stamped at the nearest high court.

Can you imagine, the start up enterpreneur said he doesn't want a loan again..

Why did he pull out if he was very sure of the business success?

InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Godbpraised:
Sounds good. But the will power to see changes belongs to these youths. I had no one to help me whilst growing up . I lost my mum way back whilst at a young age again, after my nysc I lost my father no one came to my rescue Nigeria was not any better at that time. I just kept telling myself thier is light at the end of the tunnel. I had options to complain and says government is this, but since I crave for success and survival I kept on keeping on.

Their is a shift of energy of the current youths now. Some youth want fast money, some belive that once them land US or UK boom they are made. But they have forgotten that the race to success is not a 100meters dash it is to some a marathon.

I am ready to support any youth who has the attributes of patience and financial discipline as well as integelliece. So that the fruits of investment would yield great returns .Any youth with good business idea i am ready to support.

As for insults I do not take anyone who would insult me lightly, respect is reciprocal.

SirBen90:
I think the gross majority of people on this thread are highly intelligent, though some throw too many insults, which is immature and should be stopped.

I like the fact that we have capable persons here who genuinely want the progress of Nigeria and her youths, as opposed to heaping insults on them day and night.

It is therefore right that we should collectively assist the youth in any way we can, after we have criticised their untowardness.

Have you taken in a lost youth as your ward?

Have U helped a jobless graduate secure a good job?

Have you taken a youth as an apprentice to learn a skill?

Have you told a youth not to be too eager to get rich quickly?

Have you taught a youth about the dangers of cultism and prostitution?

I think we should adopt a "hands on approach" in creating the "Nigeria of our dreams".

Some say that, the true mark of a billionaire, is his ability to create other millionaires. The same should go for a successful person. As a successful person or an office holder, or an experienced businessman, or a politician, how many persons have you helped to start their own journey to success? how many have you assisted with seed capital to start their own business? how many have you wiped the the tears from their face?

In 20years from now, how many people can beat their chest and say "if not for this man suffer for don kill me". How many will attribute their success to your handiwork? Or do you want a situation whereby 20 years form now, we will still be complaining about the decadence of the Nigerian society?

Good Evening.

I was giving the person i was having the conservation with, ideas trying to open up his thought process. Before i left Nigeria for Canada men i was not doing badly, a couple of properties here and their( which i till maintain) . Yet country hard. If you do not change the attitude even though u enter canada or heaven people would till complain. All i was saying to the young man is look around build up urself financially, u can not survive in a big ocean if you do not know how to swim in a pool. Waiting for Governments (Nigeria or canada or US ) to make head way in life is like waiting to win lottery. I would make no further comment to ur statements going forward.
