do not get me wrong they are some people earn above $15 they are few. Bnimz: From all the comments here and the opinions of some friends in Canada, I've been able to see that it seems things might be a bit tough there. So, let me not project Australia and Uk experiences on Canada.. maybe things are not smiling there, I don't know sha..
I don't think there's anybody who has spent two years in Australia on a visa with full work rights that will complain about barely surviving... You'll hear us complain about taxes, bills, house prices, etc o, but barely surviving? I don't know a single Nigerian in that category here.
@Godbpraised you guys talk of wages of 14, 15 - 20... Here, unless its your first job and you're desperate, there's no good reason to work for below 25/hr... ....30, 35, 40/hr no be magic, its available...
As a result @GeneralShephard and I might find it hard to understand why people in Canada are talking like this...
I dey see @catchdwind4rmkd lurking in the background...., baba what's your opinion on the subject? |

Well i get ur point, but a lot of factors come into play, if one has gotten age on his side, like u are between 25 and 35 years then fine, but if u don enter 40 like me haaa. i advised people stay behind else. hmmm . Also ur location does not matter being focused and determined matters. I used to tell my cousin if you can not make money in Nigeria, bro you would not be able to make money even in TOGO . i am glad Australia is working for u , my advise is u stay put their, coming here to start over again man hmmm. Bnimz: Fair points. However, most of these white people don't know what they have.. when they live on minimum wage, its usually cos they are not really trying... We call them government kids, they are used to a life on benefits and handouts....
But if you actually WANT to work, there's work to do... The problem I personally have with naija is that, even pesin wey wan work, to see the work sef na die.... I have men in Lagos working office jobs wey be say after rent and transport, nothing remain o, food is still based on support from home... What kind of life is that?
When I was in UK as a student, ontop the minimum wage and the limited work hours, man dey pay rent and chop and I was still able to save enough money to process Australia when the opportunity came... All within the 1 year. But in Naija now, the primary reason why most of my guys can't move is because its damn difficult to come up with the "approximately" #2m that the whole visa process costs....
I have a friend here who borrowed #1.8m to process his visa.. after landing here, he paid everything back in 4 months ... On top hustle job ooo... Now he is working a professional office job at entry level..
The difference between Naija and abroad mostly lies in opportunity and competition... If I have to compete with 1 million other applicants just to be a policeman (a job most people hate by the way), then f*ck this shit mehn, I'm going where there's no competition. |

How ? by sleeping under the bridge ? or fasting all thru the year ? or walking on bear foot to work ? GeneralShepherd: I simply said that one can easily make 100k in Australia per annum. And I still stand by my statement confidently .
In my statement I never said that Australia has no poor people. I can also categorically say that it is easier to make 100k in Australia and Canada than it is to make in Nigeria with high degree of confidence |

But u made it look at everything sounds perfect now. GeneralShepherd: So you work in debt collection and you have come across debtors. It's the same as saying if you work as a police officer in Canada and witnessed crimes therefore the rate of crime in Canada is the same as the rate of crime in Nigeria.
No one ever said that there are no poor people in Canada and Australia. I never made that assertion but comparatively Nigeria is miles behind these countries on every count |

Kool, like you said cold is crazy. Bills are necessary evils u know this already, however the so called millennial's no wan retire from work for instance Government work and even private self. So many people live on minimum wage. Lots of people are indebted. Canadians are also very diplomatic, they are not straight forward like Americans. If you leave in a house where hydro is paid separately men you hydro go jump up for winter. Bnimz: By all means, please proceed, I'd like to hear how things are in Canada... i have worked in call centers infact collection center, where we call people who are indebted. a lot of Canadians are indebted men.some $200 dollars they refused to pay. so are u telling people who are not owning are stronger than people owing financially. GeneralShepherd: It is about context , how many destitutes are there in Canada compared to the rich?
There's no place like home that is true but convincing yourself that Nigeria is comparable to Canada economically is trying to cope at best or self deceit |

Na under bridge you dey sleep, u know dey pay rent? Bnimz: if you make 100k gross, about 75k ends up in your pocket as a single person... You can live comfortably on about 35k and save 40k...
I live on 20 - 25k per annum, so 35k is like a life where you are not a wasteful spender, but at the same time, you are not trying too hard to save

Nigeria to me is the best. If nigeria was that bad , why is dangote or otedola not in canada ? Think men. 85% of Canadians keep working untill they are 65 years because of the bills. Guy if u wan die here good luck to you. Africa is untapped. Oh before you say is not about the money think well men, look deeply its about the money. mbhs139: You dey mind him? What natural food is he even talking about? Do they think we eat toxic food here? Just like you said, with all their natural food, they end up breathing in heavy doses of CO2 from generator and danfo exhaust pipes, with scorching heat and mosquitoes music all night.
One mofo abuse me say na cold go kill me for Canada , he said I should enjoy my -40 degree weather, and I'm like thank God say me get light to power my space heater to control the temperature to my advantage, without blinking an eyelid.
By the way, we have all the Nigerian Food they talk about here. Sometimes, they argue that it is expensive, they do so by comparing the cost in náírà and kobo. My question is, is it naira and kobo we are earning in Canada? So, you expect me to buy ọlá ọlá poundo yam in Canada with the same cost at Sabo market. For their information, na okomu oil from delta state I dey take cook, and I eat dry fish and oporoku from 9ja. I brought 9ja with me, and you have it everywhere here in Canada.
In conclusion, I don't blame those who diss us for leaving Nigeria. I was in that shoe too at some point in life until I get here. I have read and heard a lot of false information about living in Canada. However, this is not to say living in Canada does not have its own challenges but you can't eat your cake and have it back. But it's no where compare to Nigeria in terms of anything. Truth be told, Nigeria would've been the best country to live on earth but for our myrad of problems. |

GOD BLESS YOU. Redman44: Let me make my own case on this matter. You do not have to agree with me on what I am going to say. This is just my take and opinion on this topic .
Most of the food in Canada is processed food. You have the opportunity of eating natural food in Nigeria 85% of the time. Most African meals are very natural and nutritious without any processing input. In Canada, most of the food will be in Cans,Tins and Packets. We don't value what we have in Africa. The western world is a business machine that keeps grinding on a 24 hours basis. This machine needs immigrants to keep it running. Immigrants are the fuel that makes Canada, USA, UK etc run well. There is no doubt about that. Everything in Canada is organized in such a way that the Country benefits from you more than you benefit from the Country. Yes, the system is not perfect in Nigeria and we have a lot of problems. If we can remove the GREED that dwells in a lot of Nigerians, the country will be better for it. Our Parents should take it easy in their quest to 'eat the fruits of their Labour'. They should stop using all sorts of tricks and lies to obtain money from their children sometimes. If we can sort out this problem of an 'Entitlement Mentality' from our society in Nigeria, Nigeria will become one of the best places to live in the world.
If you are in Nigeria, you have the luxury of eating very natural food from all parts of the country. Food prices are different all over the country. You can grow most crops in Nigeria in your home, I'm telling you. Why did people stop having gardens in their home in Nigeria? Western food is not that nutritious and this is why you find Asian Restaurants having a lot of patronage from white people. I have seen family members who are 60 years + in UK,USA etc and they have not achieved much. That plate of Eba and vegetable soup you will eat tonight, do you know how much you will pay for it in Canada? What about the mental illnesses and cancer among the whites and native populations of Canada, Australia etc? If you continue eating this Processed food for a long time, coupled with the weather, you might develop illnesses as time goes on. There are so many Positives and Negatives of living in Canada or in Nigeria . One thing I know is that Nigeria is a very virgin and untapped land which has a lot of opportunities. There is nothing wrong in emigrating to Canada though. Cheers. |

Let me ask u a question are u based abroad? if no then u would simply understand certain things. . dazzlingd: The question we should ask people shouting tax is how much they have saved from their income here in Nigeria. I buy generator, buy fuel, pay electricity bill, noise pollution and air pollution from my generator detriment to health... Roads are bad leading to higher cost of car maintenance. My pumping machine had fault last month, I knew how much I spent. We fix our water ourselves. Security is worrisome, before u make a case to police u have to settle them. Land lord association make their roads themselves, contribute to provide security. All these is worse than tax and yet you suffer poor amenities, poor health care. Never pray to have health issue in this country, you will hate yourself.
Yet someone is shouting tax tax tax.....
Worst of all, we face everyday of our life fighting for survival, the time I use to worry about the bad road, generator, security etc could have been well spent thinking creatively. Abeg oo, nothing comes free, the people that built their country did not build it on a bed of rose...if you want to explore other countries, do it and pay the tax..with hopes of getting rewarded... Not shouting trash that people are suffering in other countries.. Lol, please that kind suffer better pass this one. 15million pere, people are shouting business, doing business with 15million in the part of the world where the difficulty of doing business is second to none |

Because most of the people talking haven't made money in this clime and also haven't spent yet... If your hand dun touch block you go know say that money wey you dey holla for an small money.. That na second billing money, few months after you down... Move to a safer and secure a better life for your self and your unborn kids... Country where you are safe and comfortable with the little you make... Do you know how much it cost people to even fuel their damn car a year, do you know what it takes to fuel and maintain your generator... Do business and it drians out people will say you don't know how to trade... Bleep off this zoo of a country and smile all your life.... |

In Nigeria do u pay for receiving calls. u only recharge as at when due. Some people in Canada do not have phones. i am about upgrading my phone plan the price is $110 for monthly contract. guy does that sound cheap to u ? GeneralShepherd: I just broke down my phone bill in Australia and compared it with Nigeria. You pay 60 for unlimited calls and unlimited data. Try and use data as you like and make calls as you like and tell me how much ypur bill will be in Nigeria.
You also know that you don't have to have a phone contract at least in Australia, you can still top up right?
I know for a fact that living in Australia is better than living in Canada generally by the way. So I feel your pain ab out Canada |
