Buying a house in Canada is not really an investment you are just saving your money. Coz u would av to pay other expenses to maintain the house. If you are buying a rental property apartment yes that makes sense u can get cash flow from the apartment house. Alternatively, u may invest in bonds and keep compounding the interest to beat inflation. The funny thing is the Canadian dollars does not lose its value that much against the naira . N300 to 1 cad my 2cents
Iamblessed007: I am 34 yrs and relocated as a single man to Canada last year. I must say one of the mistakes I made was not converting my entire money to USD and save it in my Dorm account before i left. I travelled with $13,000USD and left about 5.4m in my account. I have been getting an interest on the money ever since I left. Right now I don't intend to change it to to any USD. Initially, I was thinking I should convert it to USD and probably use it as down payment for a house here but I have decided that I will invest the money in Nigeria. My plan is to invest it through the compound interest method and add more money to the investment as time goes on. I don't intend to live in Canada forever but I want this 5.4m to be the basis so that after 15 to 20yrs, I can fall back on something when I return to Nigeria. My bosses in the house, Pls what will be your advice. I will indeed like to target the interstate compounding investments. Thanks.
Hmmm, being off this tread for a while. Interesting contribution from the experts and gurus. However , i see a lot of people here being speculative about stocks , now stocks is not about speculation, ability to look carefully at the financials of a company books for over a 5 years period is important. More importantly is looking at what warren buffets calls the debt to equity ratio of a company. I rest my case.
If the governor is smart, the land that waz seized should be used as a specialist hospital for the public he can name it after Ajimobi specialist maternity hospital. But I doubt his would be smart enough
YOU ARE A BIG FOOL. hmm I pity your parents. Ode may be we u sent u to jail in the US.
seanwilliam: I love your choice of words. I thought you would say in all cases
Credit to DuBLINGreenb, the original poster Won't happen but las las hush done chop money, flex life, lived lavish, flown choppers, flown private, had the most exotic cars, mingled with celebs obtained connections, became a known international brand.
No jail can take that away from him, if he comes out of prison he will be better than most poor Nigerians because he has a platform, he has connections, he has experience, he is known and so on. He won't be starting from square 1
He can write a bestseller book, be a TV host, sing music people will buy, sell his story to American media companies, work for security organisations abroad etc
Most Nigerians live in houses worst than American prisons me typing this have not seen electricity in 42 hours straight, I paid aboki 50 bucks to charge my phone, American prisons have 24/7 electricity, gym, free TV, free laundry services, free phone calls and free food that is why black Americans even the celebs see jail as an achievement as street cred status bringer
how many haven't been to jail? you tell me as we speak many US celebs are in jail including Steven Spielberg's daughter, R Kelly, Da baby etc Even Robert Downey Jr, Lil Kim, tommy Lee, Mark Wahlberg have all been to U.S prison Their prison is not like our own many come out of jail looking better than they did before they went in.
Those quoting me will chose 10 - 15 years in American prison and a lifetime of living lavish for themselves and their family without thinking twice over being a poor Nigerian from birth to death.
Ask yourself what odds hushpuppi had of being as rich as he was without doing what he did? We all know majority of Nigerians will be born into poverty and will die in poverty but we all want to delude ourselves by thinking "I will be the one to make it" niggger that's what the other 100,000,000 dead Nigerians before you thought, you think every poor Nigerian chose to be poor? or they don't know your God or another one is "if he didn't do crime he would be enjoying by now!" Nigguh enjoying what exactly
Simple question please how many Nigerian lawyers do you know richer than or even half as rich as Hushpuppi? Even the celebs how many of them where as rich as hush? Only the very top 1%
Another quick question? Ask them how many years and how much suffering, and how much connections etc it took them to get that degree and then that position and if the pay for those without connection is adequate, do the same for every other profession except clergy and politicians
And decide for yourself what chance the vast majority of Nigerians have of becoming millionaires or even hundred thousandnaires ?
I'm not encouraging crime please don't do crime but let us be realistic in our thoughts and speech,
I thought if you go to school you must be rich until I was in a slum and a woman told me she did her youth service in taraba, I was surprised I was like wtf excuse me, she said yes she served in.... She didn't know I was thinking shocked thinking to myself "how did you go to school for 17+ years only to end up in this slum in this poverty" I assumed everyone in slums where uneducated never do wells, miscreants etc.
Imagine if she, like most young girls were compelled to sleep with lecturers for grades, or sorted to pass and all that thinking riches were ahead of them upon graduation only to end up in a slum without husband and children hey this isn't fiction this lady was quarrelling with another non educated woman the other day I recorded what the women were using to insult her. Her lack of husband and children she kept saying she sacrificed all that for school and her future but you decide if this is a future worth losing sleep for, worth losing meaningful relationships for
Theconglomerate: Looks like the CBN is planning some desperate move to strengthen the naira this coming week. Saw that they debited N216B from banks today so that there would be little naira chasing the few dollars they might release on monday. Truth is,how sustainable would it be? Can they do it? Bittersweet moments!!
GonFreecss1: Loool! I have been following VGIF for years! It is a good fund. I dare say it’s outperformed many other mutual funds on average.
FBN - Fixed Income fund United Capital Bond fund Stanbic GIF Fbn money market fund Stanbic money market fund Investment one VGIF!
I have been monitoring all these funds for years now, because they have been exceptional apart from recently when the money market funds have blinked out, and the returns on VGIF have been exceptional. They are always ranging from 3rd to 1st among the low risk funds in terms of returns. If I sat down and did the maths, I think they might be number 1 on average.
Like I said if people are convinced, people themselveswould blow the trumpet of VGIF funds. I do not mean to discredit what his doing. But his overemphasizes of what his doing. I think if its a good investment people would come and share thier experience. Experience gained is worth sharing. I rest my case.
jabolo: The less experienced potential investors appreciate a point of contact for answers to key questions (like mine up there) and the young man, to his credit, has made himself available.
You did not insult but it was a brusque delivery. I guess people may have taken exception to you seemingly 'shutting off the conversation' which might not have been your intention but nuances in face to face communictions often get missed in typed conversations.
I will pass, I do not have time for such. If you are convinced ,put you money in whatever pleases you. I can dance around here it ain't ur business.
talk2tonie: The young man is marketing his company’s product(VGIF fund) and he has answered the questions put across to him intelligently. I think you should give him credit for that while the rest is on you to do your research as an investor. Except you are just here in the investment thread playing around.
Not interested in your product. Thanks buddy. I will pass
emmasoft: @Godbpraised you can see clearly that my I responses are always to prospective investors who have questions and need clarifications. I am not pushing hard or doing anything outside what is is allowed in the corporate world. Everything is a matter of choice. I hope you know how large operators like Glo, MTN etc are currently and as we speak they still want to convince the public why consumers should patronize them. In as much as there are investors interested in the product and make enquiries, I will talk about it. It's a matter of choice. Thanks anyway for your observation it shows you noticed and aware of the product already. I wish more people to be aware of the product.
You are so bent on selling or pitching the VGIF fund, I am sure if people feel confident and convinced enough you really do not need to push this hard on every page. My thoughts.
emmasoft: You can withdraw all funds if you wish or redeem in part. The truth is that there is really nothing like maturity. you are the one that determines how long you wish to operate the fund account. VGIF is not like Tbills that has tenors. It's not tenor based. Most times investor operates it like a special savings account. You are free to operate it as you wish.
I beg which strategydid you give him to use again.
Barrytone: Am glad it worked, now you can enjoy your peace and the enemy can fight from outside if she wish. Enemies within are dangerous, always try to push them farther. If not for repentance, would have also advised you auction her properties but let's don't act like them. Peace of mind is golden. As for me, am rejecting tenants for now, they should hold their 300k problems.
You can make your point without been offensive. the word
Theconglomerate: Who told you Nigeria produces next to nothing? I'm sure you pulled this statistic from your arse. And it is not a rule of thumb that you devalue currency so you can export more. You can also devalue to fight off imports so that local producce can satisfy local needs without overly cheap imports fighting it for market share.
Theconglomerate: This was no attack oo. If was just a figure of speech to make the whole discussion humourous. I'm sorry if anyone took offense, besides I wasn't referring to him but the importer that does that import at that time.
Bros calm down, lets to heat up this beautiful discussion.
Theconglomerate: When you import at N1000/$,I'm sure you'll go and invoke all the dead people in your home town to come and buy at the price you will sell ba? When you bring am once and nobody buys it,no be person go tell you not to go again People were already switching to cassava when rice hit 33k in 2016. These were things I saw with my eyes and many people can confirm this.
Why do u like advising people on mutual funds? Do u understand if they have the knowledge. The knowledge of the investor is key, and not the investment. Oga calm down mutual funds abeg . Seek first to understand than to be understood.
emmasoft: I will advice you start with mutual funds if you are risk averse. Specifically you can do VGIF managed by investment one. Currently it's 8.5%. To open account online click on the link on my signature, my contact is also there. You can also read some more options on this thread.
Hey expert in the house, how does one go about getting distress real estate sales. Also for those of us abroad (outside lagos or abuja or Nigeria) who may have properties in Nigeria what has been your strategy of getting ur funds from stubborn tenants .
Yes. But u need to pay consulation fees to some of us here.
