Family › Re: Is Africa Really A Better Place to Raise A Child Than The Western World? by Godbpraised: 5:14pm On Feb 22, 2021 |
This is my take, i feel that it would be better to bring the child up in Africa at his/her formative ages, once he attains age 17 or 18 years send him back to the West. That way he/she would appreciate what you have done as a father or mother. etrange: I've had this argument several times. Our pride is all we've got going for us as Africans but we should know when to draw the line. You want to send a child to Africa at his formative age knowing fully well that that's exactly when he needs to be enjoying all the western world has to offer? Foundations are laid in secondary schools, don't let your child miss out on that. Americans are known for inventions while Nigerians are known for scamming. Stereotyping is wrong cause we have both good and bad people everywhere but think about it, are kids really better of in a country like this? I don't think. I think a kid that will be good will be good regardless of where he's raised. |

@ Bros me thinks that is a good deal. Yes if may be good to start with 8% , but 10% is even better. Though i have had my fingers burnt, infact i invest without getting 1% self. tenant is paying 750k rent , mortgage is 1.25M really hard. emmanuelewumi: Where will you get a property that will give you 10%. The highest is 7.5% to 8%.
As time goes on, the rent will increase |

Good Point, any rental property that can not give 10% income is not worth, i also agree this property is over hype and inflated. DigitalMallam: Did you say one bedroom? How much will 3 or 4 bedroom go for? The Naira has has become so worthless if a block of 1bdrm is going for approx 20m in Ikeja. What will now be the rental income, will they now pay 2m per annum for a 1bdrm apartment? |
Investment › Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Godbpraised: 1:22pm On Feb 12, 2021 |
Make sense emmanuelewumi: I do my real estate valuation multiplying the rental income by 15 to 20.
Definitely a property in the village will give you a zero rental income, so I will value at zero |

Please stop this tribal utterances for the interest of peace SLAP44: Northerners are always happy to see massive destruction in the south. They have been online floating many threads to mock the south about a destruction they started when they sent hoodlums to disrupt the protest.
We must have the names of the commander and the shooters at Lekki toll gate.
The south should beware of the north. |

Bros i see the point were u are talking from now. Don't let's not turn this to another argument, i disagree to agree. I conclude by stating this seek first to understand than to be understood. DexterousOne: Three things
Even me dont feel at home as such here in Nigeria As the foolishness that abound in this space is too toxic for me
Second, I already have a handful of relatives who have taken this stance over the decades and they are not missing anything whatsoever
And my parental upbringing also has a lot to do with how I view life, such as your upbringing also to an extent shape the way you see life
My parents kept our contact to the south eastern state where I hail from as minimal as possible and gave us the free hand to make the choices we want to make For example While growing up, I know of my peers who were forced to choose schools in the east so that they can "connect with home" and also "maybe find a spouse while there" Other methods similar to these also abound, but that was not the case with us, so we cant really relate to the whole "obsession about home "
Even now, decades after, as an adult, that has still stuck with me. Not many of my peers were that lucky to have liberal parenta like myself
That's why I understand the comments some of you make. It's a function of your experience and upbringing
That said, making a permanent move is what I'm working assiduously towards..... Once my figure hits, na bye bye
That said I think the experiences we have PLUS the upbringing we had and what we were surrounded with plays no small role in how our perception to life in many dimensions is shaped
Understanding the above is not the strong suit of many Africans tho |

I av a clear understanding of what I want to project to them. A river that forgets its source hmmm it would dry up one day. DexterousOne: Okay If that rocks your boat

That is your fathers country of origin Full stop Be out there And be yourselves |

The idea is not making them settle in Nigeria, the idea is reminding them of thier roots. Besides it would save me the d headache of coming to visit them always. In extreme weathers. DexterousOne: At some point Typical African parents have to realise that the kids have their own lives to live, and decisions to make Its happens, but is not very common to see kids born abroad who would see Nigeria as home, and a place they want to stay long term.
For some who do, just one traumatic/unsavory experience is enough to change their minds |

Well said you spoke my mind. That's why I av adopted the 30-30-40 rule. My expenses after collecting my pay package for Canada 30 percent, investment for Nigeria 30 percent , then 40 percent on investment in Canada. Incase any thing my life is secured by Gods grace . TotoNaRubber: Exactly, they get to realize at old age, that is why the age of 18 is the point of no return, any individual of color will always feel at home in Nigeria with the basic resources in place.
The Indians do these things all time on the basis of "arranged marriage" for their children when the children are ripe and it works 8 out 10. The problem in diaspora is the woman takes advantage of the man at the last minute and claims all he has ever worked for, that is why we advise our brothers living with their wives in diaspora not to own any house overthere rather to build houses in choice locations in naija and rent it out. The whole feminist thing is a thing of pride in diaspora, so men are advised to build a life for their kids outside that environment as a safe haven.
The kids born in Lagos are already home, Lagos is a centre for excellence with money, in diaspora a woman can ask you to leave the house at the age of 70, in the city of NewYork so many Africans are sleeping in the streets due to these, when they tell you the good life they had prior you will be amazed, you can't really blame some of those ones cos some don't have direct Ancestrtal parents and then the loop goes on and on. Time to start preaching these things. |
