In fact, you couldn't have said it better.

I always shudder when people come here, from Lagos especially, and want to be forming some kind of attitude. That to me is being an ingrate.

Imagine, some Nigerian folks, who have lived all their life in Lagos, are complaining that "Mississauga is too crowded for my liking..." cry cry cry I looked at them ẹ be like say make I slap them grin grin

...

Well, I've said my own ó.
Lol. This is not about attitude. smiley Sir/Ma, not everyone here lived in Lagos o. Some of us had the luxury of living in sane towns within and outside Nigeria. It is only commonsensical to seek guidance and explore the possibilities of spaces similar to what we are used to. smiley Me wey be say anything wey make me wake up by 6am na because say I wan pee. cheesy

And complaining about what you may not necessarily like isn’t being ungrateful. I understand where you are coming from — life could be worse.

However, almost everyone here is qualified to be in Canada in their own right. Aside from academic qualifications, many people here also brought quite a good amount of money into Canada. You can only be ungrateful for complaining about what you aren’t qualified for. You don’t have to be a nobody because you are an immigrant. You have every right to be in Canada. And you have every right to speak to what you may not like. Immigrants are humans too.

Okay, so to the west, the GTA comprises of cities or suburbs like Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Burlington and Oakville.

Eastward you have Ajax, Markham, Scarborough, Vaughan, Newmarket, Whitby, Pickering etc.

The further you move away from Toronto, the less bustle you're likely to encounter. Toronto being the largest city in Canada is followed by Mississauga and then Brampton as the next biggest cities in the GTA. These are nice landing spots for new immigrants with proximity to Toronto and enough infrastructure but good accomodation comes at a premium.

Further afield on the west are Oakville and Burlington while to the east you have Richmond Hill and Markham with a large Asian community of our brothers from the East. Other cities to consider are Scarborough, Vaughan, Pickering, etc. Your budget and availability as at when you land will likely play a huge role in where you will eventually stay.

lol all this Ogas and Madams wey dey go about sir sir for Nairaland, abeg put person for ground. Hahaha, my oga, sir. oga na oga any day. We gats learn to dey respect ourselves. smiley

If you own a car, you can check out Bolton(no public transit there except Go-transit a few times a day). I love it in Bolton(I spend weekends there on occasion). It is a quiet town, and just on the highway 50, so that gives you speedy access to other parts of the GTA. It is about 50 minutes drive from downtown Toronto(includes time driving inside toronto) and I think about 30minutes from Mississauga, of course depending on the time of the day. The houses are much cheaper than places like Brampton, especially if you hate living in Apartment buildings. The only issue I see is if you decide to buy a house there in the hopes that it would be a small town permanently. I say this because Bolton is very likely to become suburban in about 5 - 10years due to the industrial development that has started encroaching on it. Already, Amazon is setting up a Warehouse there and lots of other companies are beginning to set up there as well. The good side is, in the meantime you would get the quiet small-town neigbourhood you seek and would not need to commute to Toronto except for a good job. Besides, it is a good idea to buy a house there now and resell when Toronto money comes shopping lol.

Another place is Barrie, it is about 30 minutes from Downtown Toronto. Someone I know lives in Barrie and commutes to Toronto for work.
Thank you!!

Huh! away from the GTA? Are you sure you want that?

Yes, sir. smiley I lived (still do) in a quiet city in the US.

....

You don't need to live away from the GTA to have some sanity, there are lots of quiet cities in the GTA. I would really, really appreciate your suggestions on this. Of course, I know the GTA is massive. But if you know of quiet cities, please let me know. Owning a car isn't an issue.
Thanks for taking your time to respond, sir. Appreciate it.

Oga Salford1 and other elders, please I need recommendations on cities or towns that are within 50 minutes drive from the GTA. I am looking for somewhere not too crowded (Very important, I’m not a fan of big cities. cheesy ) and quite safe. I have done quite a great deal of research myself but thought it won’t be a bad idea to seek further insights from elders who know this place more than I do. Thank you!

How it started
The decision to embark started June/July 2017; my family looked at the economic situation, and thought, with these bunch of jokers in Govt, it is best to have a plan B.
We are average income earners, so my wife and I had to combine funds to make POF. For a family of 4, we pooled the needed POF.

Passport
Passport for family done around Feb, 2018.

IELTS
Wifey and I wrote, around Nov 2018. As at then, i didnt really know you had to score Listening with 8, and writing, minimum of 7; but one thing with me in the exam hall was a mindset, that i am not wasting 75k to write this exam twice. So i died there, and made the needed mark.
I used Liz, you tube some other tutors i can’t recall their names now, even bought the past question for 5k or so from british council.
Tips- try watch you tube videos, and practice reading, speaking. Also try write some essays before the exam day.
The writing exam has a formula, do yourself a favor and follow the formula; please, simply follow the formula.
I recommend, Jay and Liz. Watch their vidoes. Thats all.

Sadly, wifey which I admit is academically smarter than me, had to write this exam three times, but still..
Congratulations!

[edited] What has your dear Nigeria done for you? The Canadian government has done so much for their citizens & residents (financially, medically)therefore they ran out of supplies, so asking for facemasks which will obviously be bought wouldn't be a bad idea isn't it. as we know the Nigerian government has the money to buy ventilators why didn't they buy it since? why didn't they build good medicals facilities? So if they they beg online nobody will bother...I hope you are not applying for PR o.

Hahaha. It is OK, Good People. cheesy Mr. Segun responded based on the information at his disposal. You see say me no even say anything. Anyone with a basic knowledge of international diplomacy will know that begging for ventilators on Twitter was disgraceful.

May God bless and protect us all.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 9 by godG:
Hello, Good People. Been a while. I hope we all are staying safe out there. May God heal the world.

Just wanted to encourage everyone still on this journey to not give up or get discouraged by COVID-19. In fact, COVID-19 should be the reason to up your determination.

Compare the COVID-19 response of our dearly beloved Nigeria to that of our adopted Canada and co. When countries are rolling out stimulus packages worth trillions of $, FGN is on Twitter begging Elon Musk for ventilators. Ask yourself this: What has the Nigerian government done for me to make life, at least, bearable under lockdown? Many Nigerians are practicing social distancing without electricity and food.

In most countries in the West, even with COVID, folks are still getting quality education. In our beloved Nigeria, I doubt if there is any university that has the resources to transition to online instruction.

I am not sure you noticed this already, no one takes Nigeria seriously again in the international community. Leaders of Ethiopia, Rwanda, and sometimes South Africa are the ones calling the shot in Africa. See, while we all should still be proud of Nigeria, do not let our patriotism blind us from our reality. Get that plan B passport. If push comes to shove, you should be able to leave.

Finally, Good People, Canada is not going to be an Eldorado -- far from it. Your problems won't disappear the moment you landed in Canada. However, one thing is certain: you will live your life and pursue your dreams with peace and dignity. Keywords: peace and dignity.

Don't get discouraged. Jesus loves you!

NB: Shout out to Sanwo-Olu for showing good leadership. If they hadn't sucked Lagos treasury dry that city would have been a model to African cities, from every angle. (If Lagos was a country, it would be the fifth largest economy in Africa.) But then...

Greetings everyone, I actually just ran my CRS for eligibility and my Score was 426 with LRWS - 8,7,7,7 but after maxing out the IELTS score it gets upgraded to 441.

My questions are :

1) How visible is acquiring an LRWS - 9,8,8,8
2) Is CRS 441 go enough for the entry pool
3) If I don't meet CRS cut off is the student visa route advisable?

Regards.
1. If your vision is 9888 and you put in the work, it's feasible.

2. You can enter the pool with any CRS points so far you meet the eligibility requirements.

3. Impossibility is nothing. smiley

Lol. Thanks, I don't think my questions will violate any privacy rules. So my questions are:
1. Did you soft-land?
Yes.

2a. If yes, what visa category are you on in the US I'm on F1 (I am on OPT, which goes till 2022, so since i have a job in the US, I would like to keep working here and looking for a job in Canada and/or writing professional exams that will help me when I get there, so I really need to softland.

This sounds exactly like my plan. All the soft-landing stories I have really seen are people on H1B).

There is nothing like "soft-landing," really. Landing is landing, whether "soft" or "hard". Just go there like every traveler and tell the officer you are in Canada to establish residency. People just like to complicate things unnecessarily.

The most important thing is to ensure that you meet the residency requirement of your PR. How soon you travel is nobody's business.

I was asked only two questions (whether I have any criminal record and whether some goods would follow...
all through the process.

2b. If you are on OPT, can you share your soft-landing experience? I am most concerned about documents to show, if I can soft-land on a weekend, How you are handling getting your PR card, etc.

I'm not on OPT, but the experience was smooth. No one asked me anything about my status in the US. They just wanted to see my COPR and passport. That was it. The whole thing took me between 15 - 20 minutes. You have nothing to worry about.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have further questions. Good luck and God bless you.

Thanks.

But really, I don't think Toronto would be that far from Wisconsin in terms of cold. Wisconsin is also brutally cold. Remember, Canada is a stone-throw away from midwestern US. In the spirit of giving back, here is my landing gist. smiley Decided to post it here as well.

Landing Gist
Thank you, Jesus - - the giver of everything. Truly, nothing I have is truly mine. You are my all in all.

So, I flew from Wisconsin to Illinois (25 minutes) and from Illinois to Toronto (57 minutes). Got to Pearson around 9:45pm. We were not given any declaration document on board.

I had just a very small bag with me. I didn't check in any bag.

Getting to the airport, I used one of the machines there for declaration and I printed out a receipt. While at it, I answered "no" to almost every question except one that asked if I would be bringing some goods later.

After that, I proceeded to passport control. When I got there, I told the officer I came to establish residency and he directed me to the right quarters. There was no queue at all when I got there.

A nice lady called me and she collected my COPR and passport. She asked if I was ever convicted of any crime and I answered in the negative. She asked for my address in Canada and I gave her my friend's address. Those were the ONLY questions I was asked. She told me to keep my COPR safe as I would be needing it for many things in the future.

"That's it," she said.

I was like "wow, so fast(?!), thanks, have a good one."

And she said "you too, bye."

Then I proceeded to customs for Goods-to-Follow documentation. I gave the officer the pre-filled forms I downloaded online. He collected it and told me to sit down for a few minutes. He did all he was expected to do and after some 4 minutes or thereabouts, he called me by my middle name (which is a Christian name). At that point, I was like "hahaha, e be like say this name is what these people will be calling me o." Not like I don't like the name, I just prefer my Yorùbá name jare. smiley But no wahala.

Anyways, the officer gave me the pre-filled form back, now stamped and stapled with a new document. That was it. Nothing was asked.

The whole process from arrival to leaving the airport took probably just 15 - 20 minutes.

My friend came to pick me up to his apartment. Some 7 minutes drive from the airport.

Had a nice meal and I went straight to sleep. Before I slept though, I checked online and saw that PR card application was initiated already.

Will be getting my SIN and opening a credit union account today. Why credit union? Well, the only "bank" account I have in the US is a credit union account and I LOVE IT! I haven't had any issues with it 5 years and counting. I am guessing credit unions here will be similar.

Plus, I am pretty conservative when it comes to money. So, I don't see any reason why I won't do the same in Canada. smiley

And about the cold. People keep talking about Canadian cold like it's going to be ridiculously crazy. Frankly, the Wisconsin I left yesterday was way colder than the Toronto I landed at. smiley I was hoping to see something that would knock Wisconsin off the chart. smiley Of course, I know Toronto is not the coldest place in Canada.

Based on my experience so far, Canadians are quite laid back. smiley And I mean it.

I will be here for just a few days.

Stay motivated. Godspeed, everyone.
