Bro, what did you graduate with please? I just got a response from the graduate office of Stevens, I sent them a mail inquiring about graduate assistantships and funding, and they said that I didn’t get funding because I didn’t finish with first class. Lol

I finished with a second class upper (Hons)

So I wanna know if anyone here finished with first class and still didn’t get funding from Stevens.

If there is someone like that, that means the school is just looking for money grin
i got about $8,000 funding from Stevens

Because someone told me that it will be hard to convince the VO to issue a visa if you don’t have funding

And the VO will know, because the I-20 won’t show any funding or assistantships

The VO would wonder and won’t be convinced if one will be able to pay all the COA solely.

That’s what I was told
There are so many people who have gotten visa approved without financial assistance for MS program.

I got admission too for masters in Actuarial Mathematics and Decision Analytics for fall 2021 with no funding. They also told me to pay 500 dollars to secure my seat which will be added towards my tuition. I am gladly declining cos I got better offers. They are looking for money in the pocket of someone that is also looking for money. That is why it's not advisable to apply for admission to all these private universities- their sole aim is profit. They want me to pay for masters in America when i should be paid. Ain't nobody got time for that. Peace
Do you know that 95% of graduates of Stevens are employed within 3 months after graduation, while in some courses, 99% are employed within 3 months after graduation with median salary median of more than $90k in some courses above $100k.

The school is the only school in the USA that is giving me what I want. I learnt how to write code because of this school. I wrote a programming test before I was accepted and they are training you on programming. I will get a good internship placement after 9months. I will acquire the necessary knowledge I need and the practical experience too. Every one has their reason for wanting to go to the USA. Trust me the school is good at what they do. The school is perfect for me.
Thanks
can you please reply my email.

Absolutely. I don’t think anyone would argue with you selecting one of many admissions you’ve received based on who offers you the best financial support. It’s honest and practical.
thanks for your input,
I plan to choose/select the school that falls within my budget, though i have other admissions

See what I crossed out.

But first things first... your number one problem is likely to be your school of choice. The rest of your answers are way too elaborate... short and straight to the point should be your aim.
can one give reason for choosing a school as being:
1. the cheapest among the schools granted admission
2. the only school that gave you funding/scholarship assistance

You should make sure you understand how this loan will work. As a foreign student, you are not eligible for a student loan. You would need a cosigner.
not all loans need a cosigner, there are some international student loans that you do not need a cosigner

gbadeolu1:
Hello guys. Got my visa approved today at the Abuja consulate.
2nd time attempt. Again, first to be interviewed.

Here's my my transcript:

VO: Good morning (I replied)
VO: have you ever been to the US before?
Me: No. Not to the US.
VO: OK. How about any other country?
Me: Yes.
VO: Where?
Me: China. (He didn't hear, and I had to repeat that)
VO: for how long were you there?
Me: 2 years (he said oh, cool)
VO: what did you go for?
Me: I went there for my Master's program.
VO: Ok.
*The conversation above took place under the first one minute or so, even before taking my biometrics*

VO: ok, please place your fingers for capturing. (I did)
VO: pass me your passport and documents. (He perused my i20 and typed at length. At a point he nodded his head as though in agreement with something. That sent a relaxing feel across my mind. I was like, this man is getting convinced I'm worthy o. lol

VO: What's your highest qualification?
Me: Master's degree
VO: In what?
Me: Mechanical Engineering.
VO: what's your specific area in mechanical engineering during your MS?
Me: Electrochemical Corrosion (At this point, I was uneasy because my PhD research will not be exactly in this area any longer, and I will have to explain why it so. I wasn't really happy at this point. Thanks I have my nose mask on, cos my smile went away momentarily. lol)

VO: Ok, I see you have assistantship. How much of your tuition does it cover?
Me: My tuition is around 33k but my overall expenses is $52,741 and that's even below my assistantship. And I have about 4k in surplus.
VO: Yeah, that's right.
VO: Are you single or married?
Me: I'm married. (He briefly glanced at my ring finger, it was empty.
VO: So, will your family go with you to the US?
Me: No they won't. (He waited for more explanation) I continued to say, "but I plan to pay scheduled visit to Nigeria at least once in an academic session". A beautiful expression came on his face when he heard "scheduled visit" I really could perceive it. And he continued to type at length.

VO: What does your wife do?
Me: She's into sales of clothing materials, shoes and bags.
VO: Ok. He puts my newest passport in a box beside him leaving the old one behind at his front. At this moment, I knew it's a YES!
He handed me the white paper and said "It will take about a week before your visa will be ready and you will need that paper to claim it"
Me: Oh, ok.
VO: You can go.
Me: Wow. Thank you very much. God bless you.
VO: you're welcome.

I'm the happiest man today!!! grin grin
congratulations

I was offered full funding for a master's degree program in the USA, Illinois to be precise. The graduate school sent the contract, it has $1000 monthly stipend and all tuition waived, and I was asked to sign it and send the hard copy back to them. I am not to scan it or send it via a email. I am intending to send it to them via FedEx. I am asking if that is the way it is done, because I was wondering why I couldn't sign it and just scan it back.

I will be requesting my I-20, can I ask them to send it via email or I need to receive it via courier? I don't want any stories when I go for my interview with the VO if I present a printed on sent by email. Kindly advise me on that.

Also, what is the current price for SEVIS fees and Visa fees so I can prepare to be at the embassy. And if I start the processing what is the appointment timeline, hope I can get an appointment soon a I will be resuming in Fall.

And I don't mind connecting with would be students of the same institution going there this Fall 2021 who are Nigerians. The school is Eastern Illinois University. Thanks
did you write GRE, which course? are they still accepting applications?

Please what is the ethos of this thread? As I said earlier, any serious person would find a way to get those information he is posting. This is an information age. This place is for visa folks and those with more targeted questions, not people still starting early navigation—though they can be helped if they have done serious leg work and are specific. All he is doing is making it harder for people to see the serious visa-related questions.
have you not seen people discussing about schools, scholarship, payment for fees, GRE, etc. are they visa related, if the information shared is not useful to you, why dont let those of us that find it useful be.

I agree.

I really don't use Nairaland for any other reason than to get information about the visa process.

I follow this thread and sometimes it's frustrating to see notifications for 30 - 50 new posts talking about admission opportunities.

I can understand the utility of these info, but I don't think this is the right thread for that
it is not all information on this thread that is of use to everybody, any one that is not necessary to you, you just move on, some of the information he is posting on this thread are of great help to a lot of us, please do not discourage him.

thanks

Bro, it's great that you are helping prospective students, but don't you think this is the wrong place to be posting all these? Perhaps you can just attach a small link without using pages. Moreover, those who are really serious will find a way to get this information. This space is mainly for visa stuff, if I'm not mistaken.
Please do not discourage him from posting these information, it is of great help to most of us, it is necessary

Gre study materials sent to new email address under my mention. I wish you all the best.

How is admission and funding for fall 2021 coming?
Please share your experience and the schools you've received funding from.
I applied to 9 schools so far (though i am still applying to more),
4 has given me admission, but challenge is funding, i am waiting for the one that will give me full funding or very little deficit.
