PoliticsI Can No longer makes excuses for IPOB - here’s why by GodHatesBigots(op):
As a well educated person of a certain mature age, I want to confess my shame in defending some of the actions of IPOB and MNK on this forum and it has caused me a level of exasperation.

You see, I only started to listen to MKN about February this year and was immediately caught up in the logic behind his clamour for Biafra. I was so caught up with his stirring speeches that his invectives, insults, threats, boasting, clamouring and deadly plans caught me unawares. However, I kept listening and was proud of how he rattled the cage of the Nigerian FG.

However, the insults and threats became even more desperate, brazen, and daring and I cringed at some of the pronouncements he made, which included the capturing of certain people and the murder of their children anywhere in the world. That did it for me, and I knew belonging to IPOB was impossible and contributing money was ruled out. Why? Because when you contribute your hard earned money to groups like IPOB and they buy bullets to kill, the blood of those who were killed is partly your fault.

Why am I ashamed? Because , from a position of tribal rivalry and the marginalisation of Igbos I have been stupidly defending IPOB on this forum in terms of their right for self-determination and secession from Nigeria despite the clear path to war and blood shed that they had laid out. My conscience can no more allow me to continue on this path and I now have to come out to totally denounce the antics and methods of MNK and IPOB.

These are my reasons.

1. With IPOB there is no room for dissent, I have lost followers on twitter and elsewhere, and been subject to abuse for having difference of opinion

2. Before IPOB we had lots of problems in Igbo land, but never blood shed on this massive scale, we cannot allow this continue, it must be halted.

3. IPOB propaganda is demeaning and degrading and, in many cases, laughable

4. MNK's plan before he was caught was to turn the South East into a war zone so that CNN, BBC and other major news organisations will take notice and create awareness for Biafra.

5. MNK was willingly to sacrifice all our Youth for Biafra. Meanwhile he is not their father or mother and does not seem to understand that they are human beings who have a future.

6. ESN was supposed to be in the bush, but they came out and committed wanton and random killings of our security forces many of whom were Igbo , and pretended not to be UGM

7. MNK was stubborn, almost arrogant and refused to take advice from many of his supporters. Anyone who had a difference of opinion was shut down

8. IPOB made enemies not allies. They are crude in their approach and need to be totally transformed if they want to be taken seriously.

9. MNK’s reference to Fulani people as dirty desert dwellers is unbecoming of an elder and person with a reasonable level of education, more so because of his exposure to life in the UK. We have problems with Fulani Herdsmen and Fulani politicians, but the Fulanis are not a dirty desert dwellers, they are our African brother and sisters.

10. MNK’s abuse of blacks as subhuman and stupid, was totally out of order and self-defeating. We are not subhuman; we are human beings who are victims of circumstances.

11. I am afraid that MNK and IPOB have radicalised a large number of our youth in their 20s and early 30s and they may pose a danger to the stability of the South East. Our governors and leaders must reach out to them to integrate them back into society and make them productive.

I can go on and on, but I will stop here.

In summary, I can no longer agree with IPOB, they must either change their ways or be put out of existence. We need more stable, calculated, measured and strategic voices and leaders to come out and support.

We still want Biafra and we will achieve it through less violent and more intelligent methods. But if Nigeria changes for the better we will also support Nigeria.

Thank You.

EducationMy Parents Motivated Me, Says UNEC’s First Class Law School Graduate Amarachi by GodHatesBigots(op): 1:47pm On Jul 15, 2021
A 23-year-old Law School graduand, Amarachi Nickabugu, weekend, narrated how her parents motivated her into making first class honours in the recent result released by the Council of Legal Education of the Nigerian Law School.

Nickabugu, a product of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, UNEC, was one of the 20 students who bagged first class honours out of 5,770 who sat for the Bar Final Examinations conducted in March this year.

In an interview with Vanguard, she narrated how her parents motivated her to go extra mile in order to earn first class honours from the Nigerian Law School.

While describing the feat as a dream come true for herself, parents and siblings, she bemoaned the communication gap between the students and management of the Law School.

She equally said that a lot could be done to improve on the infrastructure at the Kano State Campus of the School, recalling that the place has become a haven for reptiles as the Management, sometimes, allows the bushes to overgrow, prompting snakes to encroach on the students’ hostels.

While narrating her experiences at the Law School, she said “I feel mostly relieved graduating from Law School because the programme was very demanding. Also, our programme was interrupted because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so, a lot of adjustments were made. The challenge of the pandemic on the programme began when Federal Government declared lockdown and asked tertiary institutions in the country to shutdown due to the coronavirus.

“During the lockdown, the Law School Management organised online classes. We used online platforms to receive videos and audio recordings of lectures. It was difficult for me to keep up with because the online materials were voluminous and Internet data-sapping. Some of them could not enter my phone, so, I couldn’t store them for future references. I stayed online all the time, either downloading the materials or reading them. At a point, I was not able to cope with the demands of the online lectures.

“I must say that as much as the Law School had the good intention of facilitating learning considering the circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic, a lot more could have been done to make online classes a lot easier for the students. In a country that has earned the negative tag of the poverty capital of the world, there could have been provisions for the financially-less-privileged students to cope with the demands of the online classes.

“I had to read textbooks to make up for online classes I could not keep up with. It required more efforts on the students. Some of the online materials were insufficient. I had to search for other materials on my own as supplement for the insufficiencies.

“We had to watch some of the materials live, and some required up to 500 megabits of data to download. I might be privileged to get most of the financial supports I needed from my parents, but I know that some students may not have such privileges. Some of the voluminous materials could have been compressed for easier download from the Internet. I know the management had the best of intentions for that, but a lot could have been done to make the experience easier for the students.

“I am really proud of myself graduating with first class honours because it took a lot of efforts, commitment and consistency to achieve this feat.”

Speaking about the factors that motivated her, Nickabugu who hails from Olido in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State said “My mother would always tell me to make first class honours for her even if I didn’t need it. She was a key player in my motivation story. I know that my father, Barr. Nick Abugu, had expectations too. He knew the calibre of children he has, at least, from the academic point of view. He is a Lawyer too. I knew it would give him a sense of pride if I graduate with first class from the Law School. Though, I am self-motivated person myself, my parents and siblings fired me up for this glory.”

Vanguard equally gathered from an online news site, The Nigerianlawyer.com that out of the 5,770 students who sat for the examinations, 432 made second class upper division, while 2,172 made second class lower division.

1,723 graduated with pass category, 35 others earned conditional pass, while 1,325 failed the examinations. It was equally learnt that 60 students were absent from the examinations.

According to a document endorsed by the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, the Call to the Bar ceremonies for the successful candidates has been slated for 27th, 28th and 29th of this month at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
