Business › Oil Prices Soar After Iran Attacks Airbases Housing US Troops In Iraq - CNN by Godhead4(op): 2:38am On Jan 08, 2020 |
Oil prices climbed sharply Tuesday after the Pentagon said Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against US bases in Iraq.
The apparent retaliation for last week's US drone stroke against a senior Iranian commander amplifies concern about a spiraling tit-for-tat conflict between the United States and Iran.
US crude jumped more than 4% to over $65 a barrel Tuesday evening after US officials said Iran launched more than a dozen missiles that targeted at least two bases hosting American military personnel. Crude, which settled at $62.70 a barrel during regular trading Tuesday, climbed as high as $65.48 a barrel.
Significantly, the attack was claimed by Iran itself, not one of the nation's various proxy groups in the region. And the Pentagon said that Iran used ballistic missiles from inside Iraq, indicating a significant escalation.
"It comes as no surprise that there has been a reprisal from Iran -- the concern is that this is just the sign of things to come," said Matt Smith, director of commodity research at ClipperData.
President Donald Trump, who has previously visited one of the airbases targeted, has been briefed on the rocket attacks. The Pentagon said it is "working on initial battle damage assessments" and will "take all necessary measures to protect and defense" US personnel and allies in the region.
Trump has previously vowed to hit back at Iran if it retaliated for the US drone strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, the head of the IRGC Quds Force.
Investors are on high alert for any signs of a clash between the United States and Iran that threatens oil supplies in the Middle East. Crude prices retreated earlier this week on hopes that energy supplies won't be impacted by the tensions.
A spike in oil prices could deal a blow to the world economy, which is already struggling from weak manufacturing activity. Dow (INDU) futures tumbled more than 300 points, or 1.2%, late Wednesday. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/01/07/business/oil-prices-iran-attack-iraq/index.html

See the Shites you people were supporting against FG, are now trying to drag Nigeria into proxy war with USA & IRAN. Una mumu never do ?. Its disheartening that, these Shites, that you supported will be looking for soft target attack, in the name of retaliation for IRAN, and we all know, what we call soft target ?. Nigerians seeking Amelika visa, won't find it, easy oooooooooo. How does seeking the release of a man unlawfully kept in custody amount to supporting Shiites?? |

angelababe: The truth is that I have been to most Southern and Northern Universities either Federal or State. The fact is that Northerners are more accommodating and fair in the admission process than Southerners, sorry to say. Go to ABU, BUK, ATBU and most northern universities you would be surprised to see many southerners studying. Come to UNN, OAU etc they are 99.9% dominated by igbos and Yoruba respectively. First, Do northerners apply to southern universities to study? No. Are you now going to blame the southern universities for that? |
Education › Re: FG Abolishes Admission Policy On Catchment Area For Varsities by Godhead4(m): 6:51pm On Nov 24, 2019 |
AkimJ: You have only said what you think and not based on facts and your view is prejudiced.
UI and UniAbuja has been operating without catchment area for years and applicants are admitted strictly on merit. No Yoruba gets admission to UNN in preference above any Igbo.
Any Yoruba that gets admitted to UNN is strictly on his or her own merit. UNN have the following areas as catchment states Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross-River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Rivers.Don't spread false information. Studies carried out shows that the federal universities have largely been implementing the catchment areas policy faithfully and JAMB has been monitoring compliance. In case you want to insinuate otherwise, would your insinuation even be reasonable?
What would be the basis of UNN deliberately deviating from official policy to favour Yoruba? Of the 15 VCs that UNN has had in her history, 2 were expatriates, 11 are Igbos, one was from Plateau and one from core north. Since 1999 all VCs have been Igbo. So what special interest or basis would make UNN to go out of her ways against the policy to favour Yoruba?
The only basis where a non Igbo may get admission with lesser score over an Igbo in UNN is on the basis of educationally disadvantaged state and NO South west state is considered educationally disadvantaged so no South west state is on that list. For example on the list of admission for UNN in 2016 that was posted by a Nairalander, we have the following for pharmacy:
S/N-Score-State 75-291-imo* *76-291-imo* *77-288-imo* *78-241-adamawa* *79-256-bauchi* *80-278-bayelsa* *81-270-benue* *82-268-crossriver* *83-278-ebonyi* *84-251-gombe* *85-271-jigawa* *86-266-kadunna* *87-250- kano* *88-280-kebbi* *89-263-koggi* *90-257-nasarrawa* *91-263-niger* *92-244-plateau* *93-257-rivers* *94-249-sokoto* *95-263-taraba* *96-284-zamfara*
No single candidate from South west.
I follow, consult and am versed about university admissions and I am writing based on experience. However lest my view be taken as being subjective I have provided some references here about views from others to debunk this. I hope you can take the time to go through them because for space and time I wont copy the details here.
https://www.nairaland.com/3363207/view-unn-admission-list
https://www.jstor.org/stable/3447999?seq=1
https://www.nairaland.com/3359156/federal-university-where-over-99/6 UNN's quest to have a 'national outlook' makes them give admission to any aspirant outside of the SE, even with low scores because non-easteners don't usually apply UNN These are the recent trends in the school now.. |

bestman09: Good day house. My daughter turned 15 years old on the 2nd of August 2019. She has completed her SSCE with 2 A, 6 b and 1d (yoruba). She also got 237 in Jamb and UNN is her first choice and the POST UTME comes up in a weeks time. My concern now is that UNN emphatically stated in their website that the minimum age required to gain admission into UNN is 16 years. They also requested that she must come along with her birth certificate. Will it be wise to falsify her age to get admission or will they accept her despite her age? Is there a federal university that can admit her at 15? I don't want to waste money taking her to Nsuka if they will disqualify her on age ground They admit below 16 without any falsification of age, they probably don't check the birth cert or take it serious |

Literature › Google Celebrates Buchi Emecheta's Posthumous Birthday With Doodle (photos) by Godhead4(op): 12:13am On Jul 21, 2019 |
Buchi Emecheta, in full Florence Onyebuchi Emecheta, (born July 21, 1944, Lagos, Nigeria—died January 25, 2017, London, England), Igbo writer whose novels deal largely with the difficult and unequal role of women in both immigrant and African societies and explore the tension between tradition and modernity.
Emecheta married at age 16, and she emigrated with her husband from Nigeria to London in 1962. She began writing stories based on her life, including the problems she initially encountered in England. These works were first published in New Statesman magazine and were later collected in the novel In the Ditch (1972). That work was followed by Second-Class Citizen (1974), and both were later included in the single volume Adah’s Story (1983). Those books introduce Emecheta’s three major themes: the quests for equal treatment, self-confidence, and dignity as a woman. Somewhat different in style is Emecheta’s novel Gwendolen (1989; also published as The Family), which addresses the issues of immigrant life in Great Britain, as do Kehinde (1994) and The New Tribe (2000).
Most of Emecheta’s other novels—including The Bride Price (1976), The Slave Girl (1977), The Joys of Motherhood (1979), Destination Biafra (1982), and Double Yoke (1982)—are realistic works of fiction set in Nigeria. Perhaps her strongest work, The Rape of Shavi (1983), is also the most difficult to categorize. Set in an imaginary idyllic African kingdom, it explores the dislocations that occur when a plane carrying Europeans seeking to escape an imminent nuclear disaster crashes.
Emecheta wrote an autobiography, Head Above Water (1986), and several works of children’s and juvenile fiction. She was made an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005.

So, you mean to say you were never given a map to read and locate places? How did you study geography and you can't draw the map of Africa? At least at the secondary level, Nigeria should do.
This isn't a subject to drag on. Open an SSCE geography text book and you'll see a modified version of those questions under map reading since you never taught your students. This type of question is not found under Map reading but under Regional geography/Africa |
