Please as ridiculous as this statement may sound, stop using figures to make any case for or against the removal of subsidies because we have no idea how much Nigeria's total earnings is. If I have no knowledge of the amount of money I have, how do you expect me to properly budget?

Subsidies may have to be removed at some point, but a perception that the government is fighting corruption needs to be created first and also a reduction in the cost of governance before any sensible government should consider removing subsidy.

This may not be the logical way to go based on our economic situation, but it is the political solution to our crisis. Please read Ben Bruce's advice to Buhari.

What evidence other rhetoric repeated by politicians that the removal of subsidy will lead to companies building refineries in Nigeria.

Are you aware that there is a glut in refining capacity on earth as at now?

By the way, a friend may offer to patch my roof for me at no cost to me.

So do you have an idea how much revenue you make?

And Not all 170million people will depend on the government. We have other sources that we make wealth from that we are not tapping into. see we are blessed just take away corruption and we will even agree to pay tax then.

So do you still believe those figures influenced?

If Kenya, Ghana and Benin have not parked their cars at 1.1 while will nigeria park. Have we parked our cars since May?

You obviously are still head strong. How can one be this dumb or hypocritical or both? It beats me.

It is a two way traffic you either improve on inflow (like you rightly suggested) or you control your outflow, at this stage, it seems the government is controlling outflow which is not bad from all parameters.
While inflow must overtake outflow, remember that our investments in the oil industry is not paying off presently no thanks to the crude price shock, also recall that our exports in the Eurozone (especially agro export) are facing serious sanctions, all these are realistic challenges that has a negative impact on inflow.
It begs the question, where is the Nigerian SWF? (sovereign wealth funds) where are the investment portfolios? Our SWf is supposed to be invested in safe heavens which should be yielding some form of revenue to complement the much needed inflow.
Jonathan may be some people's hero but for realistic minds like us, Jonathan is a disgrace to mankind.

You are here again. I remember you from the subsidy thread. Talking with no substance. Unlike most people here though, you have a potential to be smart but you are very sentimental.

You have said so many things without a workable solution. Wait for GEJ to come back in 2019 to show you the SWF

It works but NOT in all circumstances. An example of a nation that agrees to this is the US. But you know why, ma man? Its simple. The US is a total foreign land to almost everyone inside those four boarders.
Right from the White majority to the Black/Latino minority, THEY ARE ALL FOREIGNERS (i.e non-natives). But is that so in African and European nations? Definitely not. In that case, THERE MUST be a law that gives everyone equal rights, seeing that the composition of the nation is that of foreigners.

How would you feel been deprived of your pride as a son of a soil in a place where all in the name of nationhood politics, you have foreigners as commissioners, governors, ward members, etc., if I may ask? Its easier said than done if you arent party to such experience. In as much as I support a united Nigeria to succeed beyond limits, I doubt propositions like these have any meaningful impact other than negative consequences. Because I reside in Enugu doesnt mean I wont end up disorganizing, stealing from, and impoverishing the people of Enugu if I ever become the governor of Enugu. And just because you reside in Kano doesnt mean you are the best man to govern Kano. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE THAT ONE HAUSA/FULANI that will govern Kano as good as if not better than you will govern Kano.

We shouldnt be mistaken ma man.

No developed nation practice this archaic tribal rubbish. Most advanced nations have gone forward to completely accept people from other countries and race as theirs. If you want to ever move forward state of origin and tribal sentiment should die.
To be reminded, Europe were very tribal just like african, but from the 4th century, a new world order was created, where tribes, sometimes teaming with other tribes to form nations. The Germanic tribe in Germany had to move to the island and they formed what is known has England. The Anglo tribe had to merge with the Saxons. Eastern Europe (mostly the Balkans)were very slow and could not live as a nation because of tribalism. They have long realize this and have divided along tribal line. Serbia, Montenegro Slovenia, Croatia etc

So my brother please the time to do away with tribal sentiments is now. You will perish if you do not conform.... Be progressive to survive. The only reason you have a tribe now, is that your ancestors had to conform to form what is now known as your tribe today. If you do not think to move forward as a nation, you will be crushed, by war or otherwise

Exactly
So the essence of it all is to submerge some ethnic group that do not conform, right? I am a Nupe, how am i sure that my tribe being a minority ethnic group wouldnt be, in your own words again, ''off in less than a 100 years time''. If that is the case, then i am not sorry to say that you and your VP that made that proposition are both sick.

As for China, there are six spoken Chinese dialects not two, viz : Cantonese, Mandarin, Wu, Xiang, Gan, Min, and Hakka. The first two are spoken by the Han Chinese, the major Chinese tribe, in Hongkong, Mainland China, and Taiwan, while the other 55 minority Chinese ethnic group still retain their own dialect

For you to move forward as a nation, tribal sentiments will have to be submerged if not eliminated.

Darwin will always win.your tribe Nupe did not start with the earth and with all due respect will not end with the earth. It's just a matter of time. Your tribe Nupe lost the battle a long time ago when it allowed the British to conquer you and form a country for you, Nigeria. They told you to shun your king and report to the queen and afterwards the president of Nigeria. At that point, a new culture was born, the Nigerian identity. To nurture that identity, you can't serve two masters. One have to give in. Nupe has to give in to Nigeria.... or Nigeria to Nupe.

Unfortunately for you we live in a modern world where we are divided along countries and not tribes. countries that mean business do not have tribes, that's why they are advance and developed. You want to join them, you have to learn how they play.

Epic fail
The Amerindians, the indigenous people of Brazil nay South America, are almost going into extinction. They were killed by the Conquistadors and their land was requisitioned from them. They are now mostly restricted to the rain forests of the Amazon

Story. Before the coming of the Portuguese, Brazil had over 2000 ethnic groups. When a superior and more advance culture came in, with the infusion, the cultures metamorphosed to what we have now has Brazilians. The tribes that mixed up survived. The once that resisted are still there in the Amazons. Some have not been discovered till this day. China was also very diverse. A superior kingdom united the tribes. Very familiar tribes merged to what we now know as the 56 tribes of China with just 2 major lang.

As we speak, it is happening in Nigeria. Some ethnic group will be off in less than a 100 years time.

Socio-cultural attributes attached to each ethnic nationality in Nigeria. Will expunging the Indigene/non-Indigene dichotomy in Nigeria gie an Osu Ibo the same Social and Political benefot in Anambra as a freeborn Ibo ?

Culture is dynamic. Superior and a progressive culture will always win.... (Darwin theory). Those guys were not created with Osu. It was started somehow, it will end. That will the benefits of infusion. We need a Nigerian identity and not tribal identity

Yea, but one cannot be ''paperlly'' victimized. If you so much believe it can only work on paper, why scared of the policy?

I believe, the only way to find out is to implement it. I also believed that because it has worked very well in even harsher terrain than ours it will work here

I don't see the practicability of this: There is too much ethnicity in the country. Even if it's implemented, those bent on discriminating against people will always detect people by their names.

It's a first step. But at least one cannot be victimized legally. The truth is, no country can be prosperous without being a nation. We are too divided and the system isn't helping. There is no developed nation that does this state of origin thing. Most developing nation have learnt and thrown away is archaic practice ( Brazil China turkey etc) So anything required to bring us together is welcomed. If we can't do this, then we can do it the UAE way or the UKs way.

The reason you gave is baseless and any person who is close to the downstream sector will think you have completely lost it.
I must be inebriated to argue that part with you again, it is your right to believe any Nonsense you wish to believe, next you will argue whether Jesus was crucified or shot to death.
Such childish discussion is not worth my time.

Most of the things you say here are baseless and has no bearing with the reality on ground, trust me most people dont care to read them, so save your strength.
You said your solution to "cabalocracy" is making laws, have you made the laws yet? But you are pushing for subsidy removal without putting the law in place, whatelse is putting the cart before the horse? You see how you always shoot yourself in the foot.
In your tiny mind, you think it starts and ends with making laws abi? You forget that for a law to be effective, there should be an existing implementation framework that will implement the laws, do you have it yet? and you want to remove subsidy? sorry for you!!

I have warned you to stop using UK and US to juxtapose the Nigerian economy, they are not a reflection of each other but you wont listen, Your Igele wearing, Harvard trained, World bank frustrated, Yale certified Finance minister was literally drenched in her own sweat, looking practically helpless last week while the cabals dealt her some serious blow!!
That is what happens when you use the western model to confuse the Nigerian economy, Let me give you a shocker (not that you deserve the information anyways).

The ECA (Excess crude account) that compounded this problem guess who created it? A UNN trained street economist with a first class, in 2004, exactly 11 years ago in the person of prof. chukwuma souldo, Iweala allowed so much political interference in the account that she practically lost control of its management.

To manage the account was a very big problem for her, in 2012, she managed to balkanize the account into three
FGF, NIF and SF, see where it has landed us. Soludo with this account stabilized our economy at $38/bbl the lowest oil price of the Obasanjo administration, faced with two economic Melt down, according to Soludo, our economy was practically immune to the worst financial trauma ever in history after the great recession.

Soludo as the coordinator of the economy at the time was able to hold the economic front for nearly one and half years, before he broke and devalued from 131 to 155 naira, this was the same government that paid off nearly all our debts to the tune of $12b, Initiated the NIPP to the tune of $16b our only hope of getting electricity right.

Compare with the Igele wearing, harvard trained, world bank frustrated, Yale certified failed finance minister, just a drop in crude price, (jonathan's lowest was $41/bbl with a peak of $115/bbl) this amounted to ECR of $40/bbl at $75 benchmark.

By August 2014, iweala has broken, Nigeria declared recession in less than 2 months of this crisis, the flood gates of borrowing was opened today, we are indebted to the tune of $63.7b, five months into the crisis, (Jan 2015) Nigeria borrowed to pay salaries, the Naira went loose from 155 to 202 against the dollar, thanks to Iweala's western model of solving Nigeria's problem. Why am even comparing a god with a mere mortal?

The learning point here is that the street Economist laid the foundation of Nigeria's 11years future while the Igele wearing, Harvard trained, world bank frustrated, Yale certified finance minister could not consolidate on Soludo's gains neither could she improve on it for the better, because she is stuck with the western model of economics. A word is enough for the wise!!

I was the one that told you how the devaluation affected the marketers, it is an insult to say I dont know. As we speak, out of the 59b released, 31b, was earmarked as the Forex differential in this last subsidy, if iweala understood my point and did the needful, i dont give a fvck about your opinion. you think the Nigerian economy run on google.

I doesn't matter who I am, what matters is how well I understand the situation, I don't expect you to know that anyways!!

Perfect! Just perfect!

As much as I support this, Nigeria is too fragile for this!... Our various ethnic groups can't even stand each other... how do they hope to make it work?

Cos this means A Northerner can go become a governor in the east, an easterner in the west, A westerner in the north and so on!

Tribalism will so increase cos peoples will now have this zeal to look out for their tribesmen if they feel they are being Dominated "in their own land"!

State of origin is state of origin and state of birth is state of birth. But in the eyes of the law, should anybody with a residency permit have equal rights? I need suggestions that says this law will not help us advance.... No sentiment. It seems to be working for every other progressive nation. Why cant it work here? Being Tribal to me may not be bad, but once it comes to advancing and developing don't you think we need others that cut across race, tribe and religion? I just need reason. Will this law set us back or forward?

What APC has given us in the past 7 months is Newspaper Government. Or Government of The Media. All their major administrative policies has taken place on the Newspapers. Fuel sells for 85 Naira a liter on the pages of Newspapers. The defeat of Boko Haram took place on the pages of Newspapers. The implementation of the 5000 Naira Abracadabra Award took place - guess where? - On the pages of Newspapers. The war against corruption is also taking place - your guess is as good as mine - on the pages of Newspapers. Meanwhile, in real life and on the streets, Naira has crashed to 280 to 1USD. The fuel lines are getting longer and longer, Boko Haram has massacred close to 100 people in the last few days, although they have been 'technically' taught a nasty lesson. Even the improvement in electricity supply, rumoured to be powered by Buhari's Body Language or Body Odour, appeared to have fizzled out. Now, in their latest bid to demonstrate how Economical and Frugal this Government really is, Lair Mohammed swore that they bought the cheapest car they could find on the market. And it was none other than: BMW Top of the Line luxury Cars.

But in truth, we have no choice than to hope and pray because honestly I am scared not for the next 4 years but 16 if not 32 years

With all due respect NO

1. Just like every organization, NASS has it principles and protocol. One of them is that every item discussed in closed doors can not be made public until it's deliberated in the house. Don't expect Ben to show you the budget yet.

2. After the presidents reads the budget highlights to the house, about 400 copies of the detailed budget is to be printed and pass on to members of the house. The question you should ask is does my senator (which I am sure isn't Ben) have a copy yet

3. I think Ben has seen the details and the details says 18 plus billions. But his hands are tied to quote verbatim the real copy. So in my opinion he is telling us with style.

4. The message I want you to get is, I want you to to know that Ben is one out of 109. If it is time to approve this budget. 1 nah against the 108 Aye can not stop this impunity. He wants you to identify your senator and make this noise so that the NAHs will stop this rascality. If you do not have at least 60-70 people that are radical just like Ben in they senate, we have to chill for another 16 years

If the ₦18.1 Billion Presidency budget as reported in the media is correct, then it is way too high especially in an era of austerity. When oil price was high, Jonathan did not even spend that much, yet he was vilified. If the present administration expects the rest of us to sacrifice and do without, then the Presidency must demonstrate its commitment to its own austerity policy by scaling down and not scaling up. Otherwise it will be a case of do as I say but do not do as I do.
