TheGoodJoe: France 98 was total mismanagement and atrocious preparation. It is still what we suffer today. Little to no competition to the regular first team players. Also lack of patience in team building. It’s what we keep talking about; building on previous successes. USA 94 as first timers was a success especially with the Afcon 94 win but still we couldn’t manage success. We threw the coaching crew of the 94 team away and blame game started. Even success of Atlanta 96, we couldn’t translate or manage it to France 98, we threw away everything. It’s still happening now |

I hate watching this match USA'94 is pardonable because of a lack of experience, but do you see France '98? That one was criminal |

This is a weak response NBA, states govt going forward will be more careful dealing with you guys. You got the money based on goodwill.
Common sense will suggest you either go ahead to do the conference in rivers or you return the money for future goodwill. The problem here is that you guys don’t want to see the sole administrator in your conference which is understandable but that would have been the best opportunity to tell the whole world where you guys stand on the rule of law even if the sole administrator is there. You guys chickened out due to sentiments and emotions that may cost you more in the future |
Politics › Re: Rivers Government Replies NBA, Demands Refund Of N300m Paid For Conference Host by Goke7: 5:22pm On Apr 14, 2025 |
Bonjovi13: The call by the sole administrator of Rivers for NBA to refund the money on principle is mischievous and is meant to discredit the leadership of the NBA.
The 300M given to NBA by the Fubara administration in Rivers was to aid the NBA to conduct a world class AGC in Rivers State.
There was no contract that guaranteed a hosting right. It was a gift to the association.
NBA reserves the right to change the venue of the conference if conditions in the state has changed. There is no law in Nigeria that can compel NBA to return the gift especially since the conference it was meant for is still holding albiet in another state.
The money would be used for the NBA conference that would further position the association to call out unconstitutional actions by state and non state actors. The NBA will only ruin its name and goodwill in the future as they expect other states to host them in future conferences. This is why an independent body like NBA ought not to be involved in politics. They dragged themselves unnecessarily into this mess as their actions are deemed to be taking sides. Yearly they seem to dragging their name into all manner of issues from conducting shambolic elections or inviting musical artists whose conduct is not in tandem with their hallowed profession. It’s up to them sha! |

See Morocco is now positioning itself to be a football powerhouse in Africa. It's not on the pitch. It's about policy. We don't have any. We the fans and the media are not also interested in long term planning with our win at all cost mentality, no matter what we achieve we must find excuses to demonise coaches and players hence we keep chopping off coaches and players, listen to the video you posted na the dude complain about the way we mount pressure for players to be invited once we think they are good in Europe. How much do we care for the long term? We also retire some of our good legs too early which causes imbalance in the team. It’s a whole lot to consider here |

Ordinary Nigerian without expert training understands the deep issues plaguing Nigerian football but coach after coach we continue to struggle. Until we are humble enough to appreciate what is working and build on it nothing will change as you can’t build nothing on nothing. There are one or two positives from even this current coach that I never supported initially but we can start from there. But if we throw him out again we will continue to go backwards. Chelle is an attacking minded coach, why don’t we just start building right away! |

jedisco: The 'beauty' of capitalism. Even if one doesn't like capitalism, to do well in the west, one needs to understand it.
Just like pre-Brexit, I'm sure when folks asked what would happen to the care sector e.t.c if eastern Europeans stopped coming, avid brexiteers would have said 'good! they're stealing our jobs and keeping wages low'. Well, we know how things went.
One thing I've noticed about major western nations is that they not too infrequently mimic themselves. You can just about predict how one would go by looking at another.
Poor Trumpists are still waiting for the freebies they were promised. Very predictable 😂 cos their options are always limited due to very visible vulnerabilities. EU was subsidising the UK, so when the subsidy is removed it’s easy to predict what next, like the way China subsidises the US and so it’s easy to know what next when that subsidy goes |

masseratti: am not a trump supporter, but sometimes a wrong clock can be right twice on a day..the Europeans western Europe have been maybe due to lack of strong leaders complacent,we all should thank China for manufacturing cheap alternative products and getting better with them over the years.. intellectual property right or not...the USA did same to European inventors too to get to where they arr today.. patent laws were in existence in Europe since 1700..USA didn't have one till late 1800.
My point is the USA can also have a lil bit of socialist model.. create economic free zone..where healthcare, housing, education, food is already cheap in the USA..will be heavily subsidized like it is in China...that will bring down the labor cost .. create a supply chain to feed those industries in the economic zones ...labor cost is the main issue why companies are manufacturing in China..the only thing that is making the labor cost cheap there are those needs of an average Joe.this tariffs is just archaic. Forget it, they will tell you it’s communism, those guys are fraudsters, they will rather prefer the existing model of using illegal workers like visa overstayers or those who come in thru the borders to maximise or optimise profits. That’s why trump is telling the farmers and hotels to recommend those illegals they will allow to stay or even return to the country. The noise about illegal immigration is just for politics and votes for elections. And as for intellectual property theft, I don’t even listen to those rhetorics anymore and you’re right they too did theirs, their pain is that the hunter has now become the hunted 😂 |

CornOak: Based on my long-term observation, the problems facing the Super Eagles as a team do not lie heavily on the players nor the coaching crew. Unsurprisingly, the challenges are deeply rooted in the SYSTEM.
By system, I mean the administration, organization, intention, commitment, drive, and the desire to improve the team. You can't set beautiful goals and expect remarkable results on a faulty system – apparently, the joy would be short-lived.
Unfortunately, everyone shares blame to different parties after every abysmal team performance but hardly question our FOOTBALL SYSTEM.
Twelve (12) years after Nigeria's last AFCON trophy and seven (7) years since our last FIFA World Cup appearance, the Super Eagles still cannot boast of a permanent home turf, a top-class training and accommodation center, a signature football identity, the latest technologies, or a stable football administration.
Our boys thrive abroad and perform incredibly well week-in week-out due to the coordinated footballing ecosystem they belong. It's not a rocket science, we are doing everything wrong!
For a modern football team to excel, every tiny input count – ranging from the choice of their training pitch to the type of food they eat, their sleeping routine, the method/type of exercise, and even the sports kits they wear, just to mention a few. These bits sum up to produce the eventual result—weather good or otherwise.
If you think I'm distorting facts, go back and watch Ekong's post-match interview in Rwanda, where a journalist asked about his experience in Kigali. The captain was absolutely blown by the system the country has built which creates the environment for their team to thrive.
Have you ever wondered why these small countries no longer fear the great SE? It's because they're persistently improving their system while we're on the same spot, in fact, maybe regressing.
To conclude, the NFF needs to be intentional about our football and completely revamp the system, starting from the bottom up.
As a matter of urgency, the glass house must return to the drawing board, make wide consultations, design a master developmental strategy, build a sustainable system around it, and implement accordingly to reclaim our lost glory.
Our administrators must focus on the value of our teams making tiny improvements consistently which accumulate into incredible results, than just waiting for one defining moment which may never return again.
Finally, a deliberate commitment to the system rebuilding process will ensure and established progress.
I hope we get it right one day. So it’s food, kits and turf that will make a team concede carelessly in the 90th minute 😂 |

That said this clowns do not know the meaning of what a federation is .. saying the North has been at the receiving end of developing FCT abuja and is being treated unfairly is very dishonest, also saying indigenous people of kogi, nassarawa,Kaduna niger should be given more priority..it seems this people forgot the main reason why the capital was moved from lagos ...its because of the indigens problem.. government has moved yhe indigenous people of abuja and the communities compensated to othee neighboring state..none of them can lay claim to any land ..if not series of casea would av been in the supreme court.
Abeg the should stop creating problem where there is not with all this their mushroom organization. That's the problem, we are too emotional as a people, it's obvious the Abuja move motive was never a pure one, but a land grabbing exercise under the pretense of a federation or equal access to all. It's all but a lie with the current agitations we are now seeing. Everything was done to make Abuja far better than Lagos, but alas, it has backfired. DeLaRue: I agree.
Only last year, some Northerners led by Senator Ndume, were screaming on social media, that 'Tinubu wants to destroy the North', just because a small team within the CBN was moved from Abuja to Lagos where more than 90% of bank headquarters are located.
Suddenly, some of them are now duplicitously proposing Abuja's capital status be disintegrated and shared with other cities.
What changed? I know what has changed. Nothing.
It is a back door attempt at control. For them, Lagos is becoming too economically and financially powerful.
The suggestion of Port Harcourt as a potential 3rd capital is a ruse. The real target is Lagos.
You Gerrit, with the way Lagos keeps growing, no matter who's in Abuja they can't influence, control much or anything |

But PBAT won't want this to happen bcs he might end up losing the control of Lag They thought Lagos would go down, but unfortunately, it continues to grow in leaps and bounds. In the nineties, infrastructure started collapsing in Lagos as the FG abandoned the city to concentrate fully on Abuja, and even till today, there are many abandoned FG properties in Lagos. It's obvious some people miscalculated, and now they look back with regret. But with our current democratic structure, it's almost impossible to return Lagos as FCT, as there are so many complicated stakeholders to deal with, where will you even start from? |
