I've never done a "woe is me" on here, even when I have been attacked. If I felt like that, I would just leave as others have done, and as is probably the fervent wish of you and some others 😂. Once again, this is not a woe is me or cry for help, just facts.

(Un)fortunately for you, I'm quite happy to remain for now, doing my civic duty countering a lot of the misinformation presented here (which is one of the main reasons I started commenting in the first place).
You've just said a lot of nothing. Typical. 👍🏿

Badenough was in Epping on Monday saying how asylum seekers should be kept in camps and not town.

Whatever you think of that opinion, when thinking about what she means and how she would implement it if she had power, what you need to remember is that while she raced to Epping to speak in support of those attacking a hotel housing asylum seekers, she did not and has still not said one word about the widespread riots of last year when minorities (not necessarily immigrants because the rioters were attacking people based on how they looked not checking their immigration status) were being hunted and attacked in the streets.

Do you realize how incredible it is that someone whose political platform is founded in being an immigrant and who is now atop one of the country's leading parties, did not say anything at all in those circumstances? Not even a lukewarm statement just calling for calm. Nothing. In the time of greatest danger by people just like her, she chose silence. She would not have stayed silent had it been any other group in fear for their lives like that.

When her defenders want to lie and make you think it's only because she insults Nigeria that people dislike her, remember that.

Lol "Sleeping, boxed"....what on earth are you going on about. I've already said that your comments are rambling and rather nonsensical, perhaps due to the heat. Try and take it easy.
You may not have used the exact words but you very clearly implied that she had done something to favor the country, and that it was an indication of her support, as compared to Sunak, Patel and co who had not struck deals with India et al.

It's extremely clear that's what you meant. Why are you trying to deny it?

Lol. It has never had anything to do with this. I have never seen that raised by anyone.

Ironically, it's because of false narratives like this that you get challenged but I guess 'woe is me; they are attacking me for being a woman!' is a comfortable emotion for you, so you do you.

I cant be bothered about that. Like i said you are entitled to your opinion and journey mercies as you head to Canada. wont engage you further. THE END
So, let me get this straight. You rail at everyone about the need to fix Nigeria but you won’t go home till you’re 60 nor will you do anything from abroad because you want a “simple minimal life”. So all your purpose will be to laugh at Nigeria and laugh at the UK as well like you’ve been doing.

Sounds awfully like you’re one of those “can’t be nothing can’t change nothing” people you keep railing about. Ehyah.

Very regrettable and so shameful! Just a waste of time and space.

Cutting grass has become a problem whereas we cut grass here in the uk just with different types of tools and equipment. I’ve discussed with lots of elderly folks here and they will tell you all the struggles they had as children growing up which is not quite different from a developing 3rd world like Nigeria. Most of the advancements in this country started from the 60s downward when Nigeria was still coming out of colonial rule. Every nation has its timeline of evolution and development. Aunty truly need to be checked emotionally, is she even thinking of her own children at all? What’s the use of all these achievements if you’re so lost in yourself alone and everything from your childhood seems to offend you. Na wa o!
See! I was thinking about it on a drive today and trying to see if maybe my memory had somehow become warped. I won't pretend I enjoyed the grass cutting at the time but for heaven's sake, equating it to prison work is just off the rails. At the time, if you had a health issue or whatever, you'd be exempted. Not saying Nigerian schools were or are perfect but isn't it that same school she was able to leave at 16 and resume her education in the UK and then begin to do well? If it was completely usesless would she have been able to use that education as the foundation for her career as she did?

That's the point many people are not getting (or pretending not to get) - she's not telling her 'truth'. She's weaponizing her experiences by using exaggerated and sometimes outrightly false depictions of Nigeria, to reinforce that she's 'not like the rest of them'. Abi can someone explain how someone can live in Nigeria for 16 years and say she never felt at home there but the day she arrived the UK she "felt at home."

This is the same person that would have you believe people can't truly integrate until they've spent 15 years or so but she felt at home on the very day she arrived, despite her only prior connection being that her mother had delivered her here as one of the last anchor babies under the birthright citizenship loophole*.

*Because Badenites have told us here that every immigration route that was subsequently removed was a loophole.

... is simply because they do not like her - because they believe that she has "denigrated" Nigeria....
You’re either being deceitful or disingenuous if you're claiming that the only reason people dislike badenough is because she has “denigrated” Nigeria. To start with, that's enough reason on its own for many Nigerians to take issue with her, especially when that same Nigerian heritage is part of what she used to climb up here in the UK. But more importantly, her long track record of offensive and dismissive comments—about everything from autism to immigration to care workers, maternity pay (after having written about how good her own maternity benefits were as an MP) etc—has alienated a wide range of people well beyond the Nigerian community.

She's a smug, condescending hypocrite. Doesn't matter whether she's Nigerian or not. She's worthy of dislike on those bases.

As for the idea that Nigeria is insulted regularly anyway, and so her words should be ignored—that logic is completely flawed. It's like saying that if you've been bullied for years, you should welcome a new bully with open arms because, well, you're used to it. The fact that Nigeria has had to endure negative stereotypes in the past makes it all the more damaging when someone in her position, with a Nigerian heritage and a high-profile platform, chooses to reinforce those same narratives.

And let’s be clear: pushing back against her rhetoric doesn’t mean people aren’t doing their part to improve Nigeria. Criticism and active engagement are not mutually exclusive.

Lol your writeup was lengthy because you're quite obsessed with Kemi and appear to be on an active lookout for any opportunity to criticise her.

Re the bolded, don't take my word for it. It's clearly stated in her interview/the article:

Speaking on former MP and television presenter Gyles Brandreth's Rosebud podcast, she said she was "Nigerian through ancestry, by birth" but "by identity, I'm not really"...

"I know the country very well, I have a lot of family there, and I'm very interested in what happens there," she said. "But home is where my now family is."

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c24z77yg16eo.amp

Not sure what's so wrong with the above, her own personal view.
See, you need to relax and let that bee in your bonnet rest for a while.

I understand what Kemi's trying to say - I think it's nonsensical but I see it nonetheless.

The point was about how a young child would understand it. I expect any child would ask questions when presented with Kemi's fantastical idea of how she was born to Nigerian parents and moved here at 16 but is British through and through and not Nigerian in any way other than her parentage, having declared it so on a podcast.

I know you love to have the last word so feel free to drop that and then move on eh. I'm resting my case here. I need to get back to my workout.

Aunty is only hating on what she actually loves. My wish for her is to retire quickly from govt and politics and restore her Nigerian citizenship (am sure whoever is Nigerian president will surely grant that) so perhaps she can relocate back home and have peace with herself.

All those talk of I don’t identify as Nigerian or don’t feel belong is just boju boju. Aunty wants her life as a Nigerian back. It’s glaring!
cheesy I cannot fathom her motives but she will retire (or be retired, more likely) from politics soon enough and we'll see what she does next.

I'm pretty sure she'll carry on with her anti-Nigerian schtick because honestly what else is she known for other than being a culture warrior?

Lol your writeup was lengthier than mine, you even included Kemi's letter 😂

I simply responded on the role model point. The poster should have no problem explaining Kemi's identity to her daughter as the very first black leader of the Tory party, who also had Nigerian heritage just like her.

All your gbogbo writeup doesn't erase this fact 😂
My writeup was lenghty because it was neccessary for it to be.

Yours was lenghty because you were going on a tangent chasing a wild goose and attacking a strawman that you made up for yourself.

It's good that you've clarified Kemi's identity for the poster sha. I'm still not sure how the heritage part gels given that she doesn't identify as Nigerian at all but I'll take your word for it.

Zahra29:
The poster is ReesheesuKnack I believe.

She most likely feels the same, because whether you're a supporter, hater or ambivalent of Kemi (and there are many in each camp), the fact remains that she has made history by becoming the first black leader of the "nasty" Tory party (and female at that!). Those familiar with UK history and politics will recognise this as a feat that seemed impossible as recently as 15 years ago. And Kemi was actually voted in by the harsh Tory membership unlike the other leader of colour, (who also did well), but he lost the membership vote the first time and then manoeuvred to avoid it the second time.

So ReesheesuKnack probably still regards Kemi as a role model for transcending barriers, and rightly so.
Lol. Not sure what this epistle is for. I didn’t say Kemi hasn’t accomplished great things for herself. I said I wished the person luck in explaining Kemi’s identity to their daughter given her shapeshifting ways.

Remember, in the early days when she was running for office she appealed specifically to Nigerians to “support a Nigerian who is trying to improve our national image”. Now she says even when she was in Nigeria (allegedly before she knew she was entitled to UK citizenship), she "never really felt at home there" grin grin

I can't remember who the person was that was going to make Kemi their daugher's role model but I really with them luck with explaining who and what Kemi is in the first instance.

Let's continue watching sha. I know this chapter of Olukemi Olufunto badenough (née Adegoke), Defender of Western Civilisation, and her war on Nigeria, will come to an end one day, one way or another.

I'm currently dealing with a tricky situation and would appreciate any advice on how best to proceed.

I unfortunately found myself dealing with a rogue tradesperson who has failed to show up for the agreed work and has become increasingly difficult to reach to confirm any start date.

I paid him a deposit via bank transfer. Luckily, after I reported the issue as suspected fraud, the bank froze his account.

He’s now saying that once the account is unblocked, he will refund me, as the funds are still in the account. While that might sound reasonable on the surface, I no longer trust that he’ll follow through if I inform the bank the issue is resolved and his account is unblocked.

I informed the bank about this and they mentioned they cannot guarantee he would pay if I agree to have his account unfrozen.

Any suggestions or experience dealing with his?
Ask him to pay you from elsewhere and get his money back once his account is unblocked.

Under no circumstances should you ask the bank to unblock it because once you do you will not have any further recourse. He, on the other hand, has 100% confidence of getting his money once he pays you.

One thing though - can he not give a written instruction to the bank to pay you first and then you withdraw the complaint and his account will be unblocked?

As a silent observer, thank you for your contribution all the time.

I have another question as a first time driver

I have been on car search between Auto trader, Arnold's and other sites.

Conditions are; budget is 8k but I can do EV of more if it's worth it. I couldn't decide either to buy affordable new EV of 14k Dacia spring on payment plan or just buy any suggested used car under 8k. Suggestions given so far are Toyota Yaris, Hyundai i20, Peugeot 308 all 2020 version and above.

Kindly help me advice and suggestions that maybe outside of this list.
Buy a Yaris. As long as you get one that has been well maintained, it'll be very reliable and economical to fuel/maintain.

EVs are a great idea (assuming you can charge at home) but the Spring isn't intended as a main car. It has very low range and is best suited for being a second car for school runs, grocery shopping etc. If you can up your budget to the price of a new Spring and want an EV, you should consider getting a used Hyundai Kona or Kia Niro instead.

But she never mentioned that, and that's the same way many of us misinterpreted the US statement on single-entry visas for Americans by the Nigerian government, including the BBC.

And even for foreign spouses married to British, there is no direct naturalisation for them until they have lived in the UK for a while, so let's not make it look as if once a foreigner marries a British, they are becoming British citizens directly and that's why madam kemi knew what she was saying and didn't mention anything about her spouse. She was very clear on what she meant. She was trying to exploit her Nigerian heritage for politics as usual, knowing too well that she had probably rescinded her Nigerian citizenship before becoming a senior cabinet member when her party was in power ( not many Nigerians may be aware of that).

In light of the foregoing, citizenship can also be obtained if grandparents are Nigerians, and there are several cases like that, e.g., Ashley Plumptre, who plays for the Nigerian female national team and became a Nigerian citizen through her grandparents. Enough of the gas lighting, abeg, before Nigerians start becoming innocent victims of falsehood being peddled for political gains in the West.
Exactly. The bolded is what she what she was doing and it was very deliberate.

Is it not the same spousal route that they made substantially harder recently, for the spouses to even be able to come live in the UK at all before talking citizenship?

She, personally, proposed stricter measures beyond the increased salary on spousal visas, so that’s why she chose to lie about her children instead.

If Madam kemi doesn’t want Nigerian citizenship for her children that’s fine but she doesn’t need to lie to incite hatred against Nigeria.
To be honest at this point I’m convinced it’s a mental issue of some kind, because it’s something that’s so easy to verify and she must have known it would be fact-checked very quickly. I also cannot believe she didn’t know because again it’s such a basic thing that if she had ever done 1 minute of research to find out for the sake of her children, she’d know the real position.

Alternatively, maybe she just doesn’t care about the truth or being fact-checked because she knows the base she’s appealing to who jump on anything to justify their animus against immigrants (especially Africans) are too dumb/lazy to fact check anything.

I’m sure in the Daily Mail comment sections you’ll see this repeated over and over now till it becomes the truth in certain circles and if you try to educate them it’ll be as if you’re the one who’s lying or ignorant - much like all the tales of asylum seekers being given iPhones and luxury cars as they get off the boats.

I seriously don't understand your mortgage advisor. Are they working for you or someone else?
While its not a good idea to take out credit before completion, yours has already been done. Besides its not a new credit application and it'd be a few days- weeks before your new credit balance feeds thru to your credit report.

Some lenders do make a final check before exchange but I don't see how it's the role of your mortgage advisor to raise issues where there are none.
Given what you've said, this should likely be a non-issue. Worst case, Barclays might ask you to repay it if it'd affect your affordability. If you have enough room, then they may overlook it.

I would seriously be weary of such a mortgage advisor
I am quite confused as well.

The initial message D1uncle posted was that it was the state agent (which implies the seller's rep, unless it was a typo) who asked if they hadn't bought things. What's the business of the estate agent with that and why would they be getting in touch with OP's lender?

OP, I think you should contact both your mortgage advisor and the estate agent and find out if they've contacted Barclays. If they haven't just tell them that you're paying everything off and clear it since you have the cash.

If they haven't, then jury wait and see what Barclays says. I think it's an extremely minor issue especially since it wasn't a new line of credit, and won't cause any delays. Barclays will likely just say you should pay it off, if that.

😂😂😂

How am I misinforming others when I simply shared a direct tweet from the US embassy? Is it my information? Lol

The below link explains that the new visa policy targets non-immigrant visas(so your example about your friends spouse visa is not valid here) and brings this category into alignment with Nigeria's existing visa policy:

Nigeria also offers single-entry visas valid for three months only for those planning to visit the country from the US....

An aide to former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said he believed the US was not reciprocating but showing its displeasure with Nigeria.

Bashir Ahmad posted on X that President Bola Tinubu‘s recent visit to Brazil for the Brics gathering was behind the move.

Immigration lawyer Godwin Oke thinks differently and told the BBC: "This is a classic case of visa reciprocity under international diplomatic practice. Countries often align their visa terms to reflect mutual treatment.

"The US had been issuing Nigerians five-year multiple-entry visas, while Nigeria only offered Americans short-term, single-entry visas. From a policy standpoint, it was only a matter of time before the imbalance was addressed."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx23ywg9w82o

I think Oke's reasoning makes more sense.
The only reason why it makes more sense to you is because it fits the narrative you love to push, and your MO of hiding behind other people's statements when you're unwilling to take a stance of your own or too lazy to do the checks neccessary to find things out for yourself.

Otherwise, why couldn't you just Google it and find out if it was the case the Nigeria only granted 3 month visas to Americans? Didn't you even consider whether it's plausible from a common sense standpoint?

Here are some links that might help educate you - https://immigration.gov.ng/info-center/visiting-multiple-entry-visa-f6b/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Nigeria/comments/1am3lo2/2024_nigerian_visa_for_us_citizens/

NOWHERE in any of the US government's communications did they state that the measure was in response to Nigeria only issuing 3 months visa to Americans so there's really no basis for the 'reasoning' that you adopted.

By the way, one wonders why a news organisation like the BBC could not simply definitively confirm whether Nigeria was only issuing three months visas to Americans or not, and instead had to rely on a random lawyer's soundbite, but then it makes sense because how else will they mislead the Zahra29s of this world without explicitly lying and getting called out for it?

Lifetime Legal, right?

It's unfortunately common for the vendor's agent to ask this payment, although 75 is on the high side. The fee is for them to conduct AML checks as part of their compliance obligations. Normally the vendor ought to pay since they're the one getting a service but many agents are now pushing it onto the buyer so they can reduce the costs they charge to the seller and market themselves as cheaper than their competitors as a result.

You could push back and see what they say - it all depends on if you're willing to lose the purchase and if your seller's willing to lose the sale.
