Kemi Badenough is incompetent and all of this is to distract from that. She is failing spectacularly in her new role and is reverting to what she knows best - rage bait.

I remember asking here for anyone to name her accomplishments in public service other than attaining the positions...still crickets. Nothing she did in any of her previous portfolios stuck. Only thing she's known for is what she says in those roles - never anything she did.

Does anyone have experience setting up/running real estate investment partnerships among friends? I recall madam Ticha mentioning a partnership between her family and other. Has anyone else done anything similar, especially for a larger group (like 5 or 6 persons who are close friends with lots of history but who'll also be putting contracts in place) looking to purchase multiple BTL properties?

My initial research is that it's best to do this as part of a LTD. Just wondering if anyone has any other insights as to what might make this work well, or if it's a good idea in the first place.

Back from today's long run and going through the news thinking "what are minorities going to be blamed for today?".

Nothing, surprisingly. But then the day is still early - let's wait for Badenough and Dump to wake up.

where is the lie here, you will blame the media too for misspelling Colombia in a white house statement or a President of an advanced nation saying condoms were used in making bombs in Gaza, there is a lie in that one too abi, or should we blame the media and leftists for opening the mouth of a president to spew trash, kontinu!
That $50 million condoms thing is funny.

It has been walked back by the White House themselves but it’s still being reported by mainstream right-leaning outlets as if it was anything other than the completely idiotic statement it was - see https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14339691/amp/donald-trump-condoms-gaza-bombs.html

And you know what’s even funnier? So many people believe it and have been circulating it. Just look at the comments on that article. These people seriously believe it and will not even do 30 seconds of googling to realize it’s nonsense. And these are the same people who accuse others of listening to ‘MSM’ and ‘fake news’.

Tomorrow when there’s another riot attacking non-white people I won’t be shocked that one of the “underlying causes” some of the criminals will parrot is that millions of their money is being spent on condoms in Gaza.

By the way, one of the things I realized from following the discourse around the riots (and on subsequent issues like this) on various platforms was that I had grossly overestimated the mean intelligence in certain quarters.

Hehe. Maybe they keep it on the back burner cos its considered much higher risk esp for ones pension.

I've never bothered to check the individual stock option as I've never considered it. Vanguard doesn't have it I believe. I just checked investengine but its only ETFs
Dodl (owned by AJ Bell but cheaper) allows one buy individual shares in a SIPP though offerings are quite restricted. Their SIPP fee is 0.15% pa. Used them for a S&S Lisa

I use this to compare broker fees: https://monevator.com/compare-uk-cheapest-online-brokers/

But then, how do you decide on which individual stocks to buy?
Thank you.

My risk tolerance is quite high due to my age (I have 4 decades to go before the statutory pension age, maybe more if it keeps creeping up haha), hence I’m fine with even substantial volatility.

However…..😄, given the events of the past few days and the deep sink in tech stocks (which I’m heavily exposed to via my Mag7 ETF), I’m rethinking that strategy.

I’ll probably just go for a mix of SCGH (my favorite ETF) and a select few stocks. As to how I’ll select those stocks - I’m certain that large tech companies will outperform given how dependent everything is becoming on their infrastructure and services, plus how much political power they’re amassing (I hate it but one might as well profit from it).

SCGH is still heavily weighted toward large cap tech but the presence of other stocks reduces the risk somewhat. For instance despite the huge drops in the Mag7 since the weekend, SCGH has been mostly stable.

I tried shutting down my Freetrade SIPP and move to IE (its about £120 per annum). But IE does not do individual stocks (would monitor position).... 😁
Chief, does any of the platforms you use(d) for SIPP have individual stocks - other than Freetrade with the high fees?

I've tried to check but it seems these platforms are intentionally vague about this, for some reason, and I don't want to go opening accounts in every one to test.

I want to weight my portfolio toward more risk/reward but the platforms I use currently either don't have individual stocks (Moneybox) or don't have an SIPP at all (T212).

It appears that the sheer incompetence in Badenough's leadership and how she fails embarrasingly at every PMQs will be the most memorable aspect of her tenure:

2nd amendment - “constitution is inviolable and must be interpreted literally at all times”.

14th amendment - “actually you know what? We are just going to reinterpret the constitution here”.

What should be clear to everyone is that all the talk about constitutionalism, economy etc. are all thin veneers over the actual things bothering MAGA and their counterparts in other countries.

One can take any view as to those concerns but the key thing for immigrants to be aware of is how things might play out going forward (flare-ups of mass hysteria about the economy can be very different from mass hysteria about ethnicity).

In short, plan your lives accordingly to secure yourself and your interests just as transactionally as the country is doing with you.

Hmm..
I've been very careful.. reason I've not delved in yet. Issue with holding is that no one wants to be chasing an upward trending market or only buy when everything is looking brilliant. We can't time these things. I bought my place in 2023 and have no regrets I did rather than hold as many were predicting a house market crash in 2024. Also, it seems more experienced folks who didn't exit the market are now gaining confidence. The headache in short-term rentals is the issue. I want a hands-off approach which I can hand over to someone to manage for a token or an estate agent.

Seriously, I don't get the dislike for landlords. Even as a tenant, I remember stating here that I see my landlord as someone providing an essential service.
Good availability of rentals are essential to a vibrant economy. I've rented in Nigeria and the UK. I'm also enquiring on a rental I might soon move into. I'm grateful for the landlords that rented out to me on fair terms cos without them, I'd have been shafted.

In a free market, demand is a good thing. It's one of the reasons why America commands such power- their consumption is outsizes their population. Supporting the mortgage market is a good thing too. Its the bedrock of every developed society. Jobs are created with every transaction and taxes are paid promptly.
Would it be better for the UK society if people invest money earned in the UK in U.S stocks or in Nigeria? Or would you also question someone invested in REITS which is another way of being exposed to the property market?
What I've seen in my research supports your stance here. Rents are going up at the fastest rate ever in a decade (https://archive.is/U72Rb) and there are still places where it is possible to get double digit yields (https://archive.is/Zpc9v).

On the new regulations (which I support, BTW), even though they'll likely make things more difficult and costly for landlords, along with stamp duty increases and higher rates, it still seems that if one finds the right properties (right now the Northern parts of the country look the most attractive), there's still a lot of potential, especially when one prioritizes the long term capital appreciation over decades.

Stocks are great but the leverage one can get with real estate is simply incomparable at the moment.

I’m not the one you quoted but just my two pence about penny stocks: avoid them, especially for your long term goals - they’re basically gambling.

For long term, keep your money in an all world or S & P 500 index and leave it alone. You can then invest a fraction of your funds in very large cap stocks (e.g. the Magnificent 7) if you’re younger and/or have a higher risk tolerance.

Wishful thinking but I highly doubt that anyone could lump in Elon Musk and Vivek, both multimillionaires/billionaires, and Vivek a degree holder from Yale and Harvard, in the same category as "low skilled" immigrant labour. Especially when their president has endorsed both because he "likes smart people around him" and well, because they're extremely successful businessmen.
Not Musk.

Vivek is who I was talking about. That was clear. It should also have been clear why it's only him getting attacked on the basis of his immigrant background, and not Musk.

As to whether it's wishful thinking, you clearly haven't read what Laura Loomer and other Trump-ettes have been saying to and about him and similarly highly qualified people like him from India in the past few days.

This is where critical mass becomes important. They now chorus he's Indian and America is for European migrants. Just typing his name in the search bar brings up alot of abuse.

I wonder how many here actually think Vivek was saying the inconvenient truth.
Hope Kemi is learning- for the inevitable day she's forced to say the 'truth'
I’m sure she is too. It doesn’t matter though. She eventually will, sooner or later.

Vivek and co participated in the denigration of migrants in the name of “objectivity” and “speaking hard truths”, thinking their own status would protect them.

Now it’s objectively clear that it won’t because the arguments about economics and whatnot were never the real issue driving anti-immigration movement (one guess as to what it was 😄), and what they took for allyship with the MAGA crowd was actually just them being tolerated and used.

The hard truth is that no matter how highly skilled you are, when the chips are down and immigrants are being attacked, physically in England or digitally on Twitter, you’ll be lumped in with the “bum-wipers” and “low skilled” people.

The hilarious thing for me is thinking about how Vivek and co must feel, knowing they cannot complain and call the abuse they are receiving for what it is because they’ve pushed the narrative that anyone who ho calls racism out is “woke”. Imagine seeing like Laura Looney that they were out campaigning with just a few weeks ago saying those things about him and his country (because according to MAGAs India is his real country despite being a US citizen by birth).

He typifies the American dream. He oversees a string of successful businesses, bought and converted a whole Twitter to a right wing media, he's extremely wealthy and is still pushing to frontiers of science. I'm not his fan but its clear why alot of young people like him. Chap was literally given folks $1m to galvanise support for Trump. Imagine giving folks £500k - £1m to support NF

Take this falout for example though Vivek is a natural born U.S citizen and Elon a south African immigrant, however most of the abuse (sometimes racist) has been focused on Vivek.
As usual. Same as with the riots here in the UK. I'm sure things are becoming clearer to Vivek and others like him.

For the record, the bolded is still untrue/ignorant. I posted (but it sounds like you conveniently decided not to read my post) independent reports that investigated BH's operations and killings and concluded that their primary composition and motivation is ethnic, even amounting to ethnic cleansing, the report found.

Smh
You can keep banging this drum as long as you like, and I know you will because it's a convenient distraction from the absurdity of your original claim that Badenough was referring to Boko Haram only in her statement.

I did see the reports you cited. Clearly, some studies have said BH is driven by ethnicity, but most that I have seen acknowledge that it is religious primarily, and that tracks with what they've been saying and how they've operated since the beginnings in the Shekau days to the current JAS, IS-WA composition.

My last post about this, only for the record.

I didn't lie. I was mistaken that there was no ethnic dimension to their attacks but it doesn't change the fact that their primary motivation isn't ethnic.

Either way, it's tangential to the issue of whether Boko Haram could possibly have been what Badenough was referring to. It isn't, as I and others have explained. It simply doesn't add up. If you ask 100 Nigerians, no one will say she meant just Boko Haram were her ethnic enemies. Even from a grammar standpoint thy interpretation doesn't make sense. It's extremely clear that she me at Northerners in general.

Reason is because Most of these lenders with 95% LTV won't give you mortgage for a new build? Please why
New builds typically drop in value for a while after completion (like how a new car depreciates substantially once you drive it off the lot), and if the deposit is too low the buyers my be in negative equity for some time (up to a few years in some cases).

Negative equity means the price at which the property will be sold at in the event of default won't cover the money owed to the lender, and it also drastically reduces the incentive to continue paying the mortgage in some cases. Those (among other factors) increase the risk of the loan, which in turn increases the interest rates, to account for that risk.

You should ask yourself why there has been so.much backlash against her comments (and not just the ones about Nigeria) even in the UK.

It may be that all of those comments are perfectly fine (as you believe and have said) and everyone who has questioned them is unreasonable, or that she frequently says nonsense that people are rightfully indignant about.

Agreed. I've come to realise that many Nigerians tolerate and pretend about negative situations, bad governance etc but it's highlighting the truth of these situations that they are unable to handle.

The impressive Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala wrote a book exposing the deep and systemic corruption in Nigeria and her experiences fighting this corruption as a public servant. Imagine if she had done a global book tour, promoting her book on BBC, CNN, podcasts etc She would likely have received similar hate for "denigrating Nigeria".

But "luckily", very, very (very lol) few Nigerians have read it or even know of its existence, and even the governors she mentions in her book are blissfully unaware, so it's okay 😂

Telling my story is risky,” Okonjo-Iweala writes. “But not telling it is also dangerous.
There's a huge difference between critique from someone who identifies as Nigerian and has served the country despite all the difficulties. It is clear to all that it's from a desire to influence make change, and that's a marked difference from Badenoch who has publicly disclaimed Nigeria and ONLY references it in disparaging terms to prop up her "good, not-like-them immigrant" image.

NOI has a huge, supportive following among Nigerians and her book has been publicized in Nigeria and by Nigerians (look up reviews of the book and discussions about it on social media). She did go on a tour of sorts as well, and has delivered speeches about the book in several fora (including interviews with Nigerian top media platforms) over the years. Search YouTube for those. To say very few Nigerians know of the book, is frankly ignorant.

You're wrong Aunty and am calling you out on this one. You're beginning to have or show a penchant for ignoring reckless takes on issues that further divides a people for as long it align with your preferred narratives and personalities. You actually know what you're doing and it showed in your response to Goodenoch. Kemi statement against northern Nigeria has serious security implications both on Nigerians back home and in the diaspora but just like the riots that happened few months back you just don't care but trying to manipulate us on this thread to divert our attention from a very sensitive issue. You keep hammering on the police issue as if we were blind to the other reckless takes.

We are all human and no one here has denied all the unpleasant circumstances back home but all these characterisation or labelling people just because we want to become ethnic champions will only cause problems for us all. And I stand by my assertion that this is how these separatists starts hence the outcry about kemi statements. It's good to have your strong opinions but please I beg you don't ever think people can read in between the lines and know where everyone belongs or what they actually stand for. Don't apologise.

Her exact comment is below.

"I have nothing in common with the people from the north of the country, the Boko Haram where the Islamism is, those were our ethnic enemies and yet you end up being lumped in with those people."

It's quite simple. Why don't we contact Kemi's office or Katy Balls the journalist and get clarification on whether Kemi meant that her ethnic enemies are Boko Haram (whom she mentions) or all the regular Hausa and Fulani people (whom she doesn't mention).

You might be right and she'll respond in her frank way with "I was talking about everyone in the north - all northerners, Hausas etc are my enemies". In which case it is I who owes you an apology.
😄

Feel free to contact her.

Her statement was extremely clear enough already, for me.

ETA: Another reason why I know that's what she meant is that she has previously made another comment that had the same fake equivalence of Northern Nigeria = Islamism = Terrorism. I can't find it now unfortunately (did a quick search Google has been overrun with posts about her most recent comments).

What's certain though is that your thesis about how she meant Boko Haram is a nonstarter because BH is not an ethnic group and has never targeted people based on ethnicity so couldn't possibly be her "ethnic enemies" even in the widest interpretation of her comments.

Ma binu. I have seen the error of my ways - what you said makes perfect sense.

When Badenough said she doesn't identify as Nigerian and doesn't like being lumped together with her ethnic enemies, Boko Haram is the ethnicity she meant because obviously the BokoHaramish ethnic group occupy all Northern Nigeria, and so when people call her Nigerian it automatically carries a conotation that she's part of Boko Haram and an Islamist.
