Relaxed Tuesday something grin

It was quite an interesting read especially with the comments from those that have tasted both sides of the pie. I would like to drop a few comments smiley.

First, I think it is important to reiterate that life will give you the output of what you input. With a bit of luck on one's side (prayers from all angles), one may get more than even anticipated. This is why I always mention the need to plan ahead regarding any venture one wants to undertake and then plan for alternative versions of that plan as back up plans, then top it off with plans for when all plans don't work out as planned. This is because for some, it will be very smooth, others will feel jealous while for others it would feel like the world is adamant on working against them.

STEM or No STEM, it requires some serious hard work finding a job after studies especially if you do not speak the language fluently.Even those that managed to speak the language fluently find it hard if they have no prior working experience which is why I always advice ensuring one does some internship or werkstudent jobs before graduation.

Another unbelievable thing is the number of applications one would do to get 1 invite for interview, if i were to throw down a number, I would put mine at over 50 applications to 1 invitation (I wanted to put over 100 o because I really believe it was lipsrsealed). This is a good average considering I have years of experience (plus working experience in Germany though not fluent in the German language).

A point most people ignore is that of starting early! I started applying for jobs the minute I got approval to start my master thesis. This was a whole 10 months before I would officially graduate! I learned this from friends who did the same and had offers before they officially graduated. I have 100% employment from friends that followed this strategy though I will confess all are in IT (not just programmers) since that is my circle.

Those that studied other courses that I know got jobs say they used the same strategy but in addition accepted really low ball offers to get a foot in the door, then moved on to other opportunities in due time. All those I know that studied Architecture, civil engineering or related courses are all employed.I know economists working in Banks (Fidor Bank for example), in Business Intelligence for Springer and chemical engineers jumping from one pharma to another (e.g Obiwann). LinkedIn is a very good place to see the real picture of successes.

Those still searching have either taken up PhD positions (self funded though they apply for grants on their own) (or a 2nd MSc) or the step to move into IT (which has the easiest entry hurdle all things considered). I know a couple of people that learnt programming on their own and were able to land jobs in IT because of that singular act. It wasn't desperation that caused them to make that move, it was based on proper analysis of effort vs reward.

This is why I preach the message of researching your choice course and its viability in the German market. Learn the language to perfection (I am still struggling with my B1 classes) and stay open to all opportunities. Appropriate your expectations and keep your eyes on the goal no matter the situation and don't get carried away with whatever money is being made from menial jobs or side hustle.

If the people around you are not making the kind of progress you desire, change your network to those you desire to rub shoulders with cool.

Whether Germany is looking like it would work out well or not, have plans for potential transitions so as not to be under pressure.

Another point so many fail to note is the importance of investing/saving in Nigeria from the little they make here. Investment returns in Germany is very little compared to what is obtainable in Nigeria. Treasury Bills and Mutual bonds give up to 14% ROI per annum (risk free), agric platforms like Farmcrowdy and Thriveagric give up to 30% ROI per annum (some risk involved), there is Uber and other low risk ventures that can guaranty good and steady returns from the comfort of your PC or phone from wherever you are. This little saving and investments over time will quickly amount to significant amounts and act as landing pads if it gets to that. If not, money is always useful.

P.S: The poster said he has over a year to stay in Germany. This means he just greaduated and has his 18months job searching permit. This means he has not searched for work for more than 6months before being under the kind of pressure he finds himself. These could have easily been avoided with any of the options i mentioned above and he is allowed to search the whole of EU for a job with his German degree (I have a friend who got employed in Hungary from Germany). He also has over a year to better his German and learn some skills that will increase his chances.

Wishing everyone God's blessings and favor in our endeavors.

What a wonderful response.
Please at the bolded, how can someone change to IT field if he didn't get job related to his field after graduation?
I am admitted to Applied Geoscience in RWTH Aachen University.
I am highly dedicated to work really hard to get professional Job but won't mind changing to IT field if I don't get job after graduation.
Is it by starting a fresh Msc?
I heard Bsc demands fluency in Deutsch.
Please I really wanna know how to change to IT if it comes to worst since it seems that's where there are lots of jobs.

Dear Writer,

I completed my master's degree in Germany and also completed 4 internships back to back. Of course resettling in a new country is not an easy process but do not make it look like Germany is so hard - No. I am currently in my second job as a chemical engineer with a chemical company here and of course it was not an easy ride getting the job but eventually I landed the job.
I have a few questions for you?
- Do you speak basic german at least?
- How many career fairs did you attend?
- Did you make effort to improve on the local language?
- What did you study? How is the market in that branch of industry?

It is easy to make it look like Germany is a no-go for professionals but there are many and I mean many Africans working in industry all over the country. Find out how the Cameroonians have made lasting success in the country professionally. Go on Linkedin and see the many Africans in industry here. It would require a lot of work but that is the situation as a foreigner trying to integrate in a new system - be it UK or Germany or US. I mean your master's degree cost you nothing in comparison to what you would have had to pay in US, Canada or UK for the same course you did. Keep trying and applying; and if you have to stay in Germany do try to learn some german.

If you do not connect with the lady in UK, do not subscribe to that marriage. Your misery could triple if you have to share an apartment with someone you have no chemistry with and then being bossed around because she saved you by marrying you...just a friendly advice. Goodluck!

You talk like a brave man. I just got admission into RWTH Aachen University to study Applied Geoscience.
Please I would like to have a conversation with you in private. I just sent you a pm

Hi guys

Sorry, it's been a while here, Life in Deutschland no beans!

So I saw somewhere that starting from August 1, the blocked account will be increased from 8k to 9k

Has anyone else seen this?

From the information {if true} the new law will start from August this year, which means any funding done after August will be 9900 euros.
Its very simple,
Fund before August 2019 before the new law start applying, obtain the confirmation letter from fintiba and use it to apply for your visa

@ Goztino and all those coming to RWTH Aachen Applied Geosciences please make sure to write an English exam ( IELTS or TOEFLS) I will suggest TOEFL the ibt score needed is 90.. Note their is no shortcut to this ( proof of English language proficiency) and what have you.. If you don't write in Nigeria, you will write when you come and this will cause you to miss registering important courses.. See what I mean
• once you arrive, you do health insurance and proceed for enrollment ( I must say at this point that enrollment is not done from Nigeria, it must be here!)
• it is after enrollment that you will be transferred from being an applicant to being a student
• most courses registration don't last long and so if any of your enrollment requirements is missing, you might be attending lectures but no course registration ( you can't write exam for any course you didn't register)

So my advice is as follows
• get your English exam certificate ready if you have not gotten
• your degree result, transcript and any other documents that you feel is important
• once your Visa comes out, pay your semester dues from Nigeria. This has 2 very important advantage
1. You can complete your enrollment in a day
2. Your semester ticket will be processed within a week
Don't delay that so that you won't spend your money on trains and bus that you are supposed to enter for free.
• keep on checking your application page for that place they write PRINT INVOICE you will know when the invoice for winter semester dues is out. It contains the bank details and the amount.
• last but very important is ACCOMMODATION.. To this I have two suggestions
1. Search for Studierendenwerk Aachen, register and stand on the queue for any accommodation of your choice.
2. Their is a Facebook group called INCAS AACHEN join and you will see time to time accommodation advert.
It hadn't reached my turn in Studierendenwerk but I got accommodation before coming " thanks to INCAS AACHEN "
** also if the embassy needs any proof that you course will be thought in English, send me a pm our course coordinator will send you a letter to that effect.
Do these things, prepare well for interview and we will all see by the coming fall.
Remain blessed.

Thanks so much for this priceless information. Please, I have some questions to ask you.

Copied directly from aachen website
Enrollment or Application?
Make sure you know the difference between application and enrollment. By enrolling you get a study placement at RWTH Aachen, that is you become a member of the university.
Before you enroll, however, it is always required for all courses of study that you apply through RWTHonline within the application period.

After being admitted at RWTH Aachen, it seems one need to apply for enrolment here in Nigeria in other to enrol later on getting to germany or do we just wait until we get to germany to enrol without any application for enrolment here in Nigeria ?

Thanks so much for the information. They should have told us that proof of English profficiency is not needed.
what if someone dont score upto 90 in Toefl?
I will create a whatsapp group now for all the Aachen prospective students since we are many so that everybody who applied can join for Aachen related information, to join the group send me a message on
0 7 - - - - - -
{number will be erazed after 48hrs}
let me add you to the Aachen group

The group does not stop us from coming here to share information needed for Germany in general or stop us from attending to questions being asked here.

But you can finish everything about fintiba in a day.
My account is ready now, na only to fund remain and it even has an app in play store which you can download and use
