GOZTINO'S TRANSCRIPT

Before sharing this transcript, I would like to appeal to all of you.
1. Make sure you are close to German embassy a day before the interview date, Lagos always have traffic which might delay you and when you arrive late, you will not be allowed to enter for your interview.
2. If you are a JJC in Lagos like me, make sure you ask for directions very well or go with the person you are staying with so that you won't waste time unnecessarily on the road.
3. Ask questions when you are confused on the bus to take, lagosians are always willing to direct you.
4. A day before your interview date, check your documents properly and make sure its complete... Each document should have two copies each and also hold #30,500, otherwise you will be bounced.
5. When Paulinus will be checking your documents, mind your business and don't try to assist other people that will be confused behind you, I nearly got bounced because of that.

I left by 4:30am and arrived by 7:10am few minutes before Paulinus stopped admitting those for 7am.

Back to the interview section.
I arrived around 7:10am after almost crying on the road due to traffic and even paying for drop from Obalande.
On getting to the embassy, I saw the man Paulinus shouting here and there and sending some people back at the back for being unorganized as he used to say.
VO: What's your name?
VO: Why are you going to Germany?
VO: Why this course?
VO: Why Germany?
VO: Why not English speaking countries?
VO: Why not Nigeria?
VO: Tell me about the city your school is located and everything you know about Germany.
As I was still on it, he was typing some stuffs and at a point asked me to stop
VO: What do you intend to do after your studies?
Goztino: I want to come back to Nigeria and use the practical experience I will acquire in Germany to establish my own Geoscience firm here and become a Geoscience consultant.
VO: Don't you want to work in Oil and gas companies?
Goztino: I would start my own firm and employ other graduates in other to help towards the industrialization and creation of employment in my country, Nigeria.
VO: Why not start the firm now and employ the graduates now?
Goztino: I would have loved to but I don't have enough practical skills and experience yet
VO: Alright, that will be all. Do you have any question for me?
Goztino: No sir.

Not all IT jobs require programming. So yes you can.

Thanks for your response. Please how will I do to get part time job in an IT firm because honestly I have no IT skill apart from mere computer literacy.
Do I need certification or anything?

Ok. My Tip: study your Agric, try get a student job in an IT firm(very important). You can also read and get some online courses in basic IT. and get certifications. Many IT companies are interested in your experience more than qualifications. shocked shocked
With this you can become employable in both fields. shocked .

Can you get a student job in IT company without programming skill?

Can anyone answer me.

Can I go ahead and book an appointment date even when am yet to get my admission letter?

Well, its a big risk, but life is full of risks anyway.
They gave me appointment date today on 7th June. Imagine if I don't have admission letter, how I will be feeling now and if you make mistake cancel your date after appointment is given to you, omo na straight ban for 6 months be that o o o.

So weigh your options well and take decision on your own and ofcus be prepared for its consequences.

I booked category A and even went to the extent of ticking that I have a scholarship when I don't have knowing full well that it's a risk. If they allow me to do my interview, I smile. If they bounce me out (God forbid) for wrong category, I will even stay in the embassy and book another appointment under category B on that 7th June.
Everything about life is risk. Don't play too safe always

What date did you put as study visit

LOL. My brother, they don't consider all these things.
Well in answer to your question, I put 7th October.
Now listen, they don't give date base on all these enrolment whatever.
They gave me early June probably because someone cancelled his appointment maybe because he doesn't have admission yet.
Imagine how restless I will be now if I don't have admission letter and my interview is 7th June.
They can move forward and backwards in appointing dates

There is one single question I asked myself that made me cancel my Category B booking and rebooked under category A?
The question is this ===Gọzie, its risky booking under category A, but is it not more risky remaining in category B and getting date on late September , When AM takes between 4-6 weeks from interview date?

I cancelled my category B appointment on Friday last week and rebooked again the same day under category A and got date today by exactly 10:20am.

Appointment Date = 7th June 2019.
Be rest assured that I will share my transcript here after my interview on 7th June under category A.

I couldn't answer that question, then I had no option than to cancel.
They are still appointing dates to those that booked on 6th May and some of them was even given 2nd August.
Remember those that booked on 7th May overplenty.
When it took them July and August to finish dates for those that booked on 6th May, then probably it will take August and September to finish dates for those that booked on 7th May, then let's assume you get interview date on 15th September, add extra 4-6 weeks to it before your AM arrives and that is 15th October if it arrived on exactly 4 week interval.
But ask yourself, what if your AM comes in 5 or 6 week time after your interview?
When will your school start?
When is your enrolment deadline?

These are the analysis I did and cancelled my Category B booking and rebooked under category A.
Please do your own analysis well and stick to it.

Basalt come and see the problem you just caused.
Someone booked under category B on 7th May, then after this category argument and calls, he canceled his appointment in category B and booked a fresh one under category A.
Then on getting to this place and seeing Basalt posts, he cancelled the category A booking and went back and booked under category B now he sent me private message asking me that he is contemplating booking canceling again and booking category A cheesy.

Please I saw this under category B booking and I couldn't understand it at all.
Please gurus in the house, help me interpret this vague sentence because it's so scary. Does it mean they are aware that there will be a long waiting period for those that used category B?
And reseting it by September when most enrolment deadline is on 30th September. I am contemplating canceling my category B appointment and rebooking with A

During the long waiting period for B-list appointments, many students change their plans and do not show up at their assigned appointments. Therefore we will reset the B-list registrations at the end of September and at the end of March before the beginning of the new semester and delete all at that time existing B-list entries.New registrations will be possible again from the beginning of October / April.

To quickly answer your question, software development and data analysis is very popular these days. I am not sure about networking though, note that I am not an IT guy myself. I will suggest that you go to German job portals such as www.indeed.de and see for yourself jobs (IT) that are numerous there.

Thanks bro

Regarding those that their minds are not made up as to which country they should migrate to, just take a bold step based on your resources...But bear in mind that migrating to any country in Europe besides the UK presents language barrier issues and of course, racism....So you have to be extra motivated, smart and possess one mind to advance your goals here...I will not tell that here is all heaven, but be ready to work hard...I mean hard...Before I got to where I am, I had even done cleaning jobs, dish washing etc...I know how many families in Naija that my salaries from those jobs helped and the prayers, before I landed an IT job...If you are not even motivated in Nigeria you cannot be here, because if your papers are right, you can be getting welfare benefits and just start living a laid back life, before you know it you are 50....Even in that Naija, na shoes I been dey sell for Festac and Abuja plus bricklaying sef sometimes...Na only God and my close paddymen from this thread from Festac understand sha....This is why I cannot rest here even.

I must say that you are doing a wonderful job here Ibra.
I am admitted for a masters degree in Germany and this news about IT being in great demand in Europe has really made me willing to have a foot there too.
Can you recommend the best way to go about it?

The only positive thing about Portugal is that, it is part of EU and their residence permit/visa can be used to travel within Schegen zones. Its a dead zone in term of job opportunities. Comparing Portugal to Norway is like comparing Canada with Mexico.

Are you going for studies? If the answer is yes, the thing about Norway is that, it's difficult to stay there after your graduation because the immigration rule is that you must get related job in your study area before work permit can be given to you. Let me state that while studying and doing part time job(menial job) in Norway, I am pretty sure that you will save reasonable amount of money during this period.

To be Frank, in most of these countries, it's extremely difficult to get professional jobs without a very good ability to speak their languages. However, if you are into IT and know your onions, you stand a better chance.

NB: UK has started giving six-month post study visa.

Good evening guru himself, I just stumped on the thread and I have been reading it since morning, by God's grace I will be in Germany this year for my Msc in applied Geoscience at RWTH Aachen University,Germany.
Normally Germany gives you 18 months to look for jobs related to your course and immediately you get one, your road to permanent residency just got activated.
From the information I get, getting a professional job after Msc ain't easy, that's why I have started learning their language online while in Nigeria and I plan going into IT field in order not to carry all my eggs in one basket.
Which of these IT field is needed in Europe and won't be hard to learn?
I am contemplating going into networking as I have no experience in programming and really, it appears so boring to me

It all depends on who you are and what you want. I have friends that studied Environmental science and are now doing their PhD in Germany and other EU countries. One got a job after an internship as well in Düsseldorf. Major key? Study whatever you choose really well and add as many employable skills as possible. Of course, learn as much Deutsch as possible. A course like Material science will no doubt have PhD tracks, or you might even be able to get an internship at a research institute along the line. One has to be careful when choosing a course to study in Germany though, cos it gets tough and you need interest and passion to get through at times.

God bless
At the bolded

1. Not everyone wanna do PhD, and from what I heard, after your PhD in Germany, you become overqualified for most job vacancies and you must get job that requires PhD before you get your blue card to work in Germany.
I heard that you cannot do PhD and get an Msc job (I don't know the authenticity of that information) , you must get PhD job with a particular salary scale or get back to Nigeria after post graduation grace.

2. Almost everyone wanna study a course that is in demand in Germany, but one's Bsc limits him on the course he can apply for Msc unless you wanna start afresh from Bsc.
Example, you can't have Bsc in Botany and then Msc in electrical and electronic engineering.
So your Msc is always in line with your Bsc and therefore you don't really have choice to select the best course for Msc if that course is not in line with your Bsc education

The last part is so true. I just think people should stick to one programming language at a time. I'm currently learning java in Studienkolleg (almost done) but it's not easy to be honest.

The main thing about learning a programming language is to be able to create something with it afterwards.

After some research which I am still doing, I think I will go with networking skills and certifications when I come to Deutschland

High demanding IT skills depend on which area, web dev, software dev, mobile, dev, DevOps(hottest kid on the block), AI(this is very broad), data science...........and so on.

But with Web Dev, you can't go wrong. (learn HTML, CSS, Javascript, Angular, React, ) for frontend. (Java, Php, Nodejs) for backend.

You can start with HTML CSS, then move to Javascript, and then React before Angular for frontend development.
For backend, I would say learn JAVAEE with ( Spring/Hibernate) and Nodejs. But if you are already proficient in Javascript, then perfect your backend skills with Nodejs and learn other frameworks to it.
All in all, programming is not all about what language you are proficient in, it is about how to analyse and solve problems. Your architecture and logic implementations are what makes you a good developer. This is where a good knowledge of data structures and algorithm come into play.

See just stay focus and forget all this IT hype, learn German and follow your passion. If you jump ship because people are saying so,hmm. The grass is not always green on the other side.

When I say I want IT knowledge know that something prompted me to say that (I no dey like carry last for anything I dey do).
Someone mentioned ComptiaA+ and N+ Certifications and from my little research, I found out that It’s about teaching you to fix simple computers software and hardware issues. CompTIA A+ is about teaching you enough knowledge to get an entry-level job or intern in the IT field. Something like a help desk is what to expect after the CompTIA A+.

Do you know about it?

. I have 100% employment from friends that followed this strategy though I will confess all are in IT (not just programmers) since that is my circle.

Those still searching have either taken up PhD positions (self funded though they apply for grants on their own) (or a 2nd MSc) or taken the step to move into IT (which has the easiest entry hurdle all things considered). I know a couple of people that learnt programming on their own and were able to land jobs in IT because of that singular act. It wasn't desperation that caused them to make that move, it was based on proper analysis of effort vs reward.

Please, from all research I have conducted both in quora and nairaland, they keep mentioning IT everywhere.

Please can you recommend high demanding IT skills one can learn in Germany since you are already in Germany?
I have never programmed in my life.
Just recommend skills I can acquire alongside my studies for my own development

You can’t abandon a course you enrolled with in the foreigners office in any country. They get constant feedback from your school on how you perform and your attendance, those people even see your account balance. Very low credit scores and absenteeism leads to revoking of visa and back to Naija. This is in general tho, not just Germany

Very good. With the information gathered so far, I will draft my plan

You are jumping the gun.

After studies and securing a job, what you get is a regular work permit or EU blue card. Let me explain....

With EU blue card: you must get a job in your area of study with at least a gross salary of 53k Euros per year. The advantage of the Blue card is that in 21 months of paying tax (max) plus B1 certificate (or evidence of having attended a full B1 class), one can apply for and get the permanent residency.

Regular work permit: This is what most people get as it has a lower salary requirement (between 30k and 40k Euros, I have seen someone get it with salary in the 20k plus range) and there is no real emphasis on your job correlating with what you studied. It also depends on who you meet on the day and how you explain your move into the new career path. Converting to permanent residency takes a while longer with this (33 months of tax payment) plus B1 certificate.

Tons of programmers being employed by companies do not have a computer science related bachelors so it isn't an issue here. They recruit skills not degrees.

One more question before I dey alright.
Can someone, abandon his admitted course and use that 3years of MSc to perfect in IT field, programming and language skills?
I mean is it acceptable?

I know why I am asking all these questions. I wanna know all the available options for permanent residency apart from marrying a German

I know of a student(Indian), came as a student and after 2 months got a job and applied for blue card.
Nothing is impossible, besides am yet to see anyone who finished his degree and was sent home because he did not get a job that commensurates what he studied. You can choose to return if you feel, and have a higher dream like the poster in the other thread.

Lol. Immediately the 18 months post graduation grace pass, you are automatically an illegal immigrant and can be deported at anytime.

Bro, there is always a way out. Even if you study Biology and you get a job as a programmer, what really matters is your paygrade, which in my analogy is not going to be bad. But, if you studied Geoscience and end up working in Amazon, then you have explaining to do.

So you mean that as a Biology graduate, I can actually get a job as a programmer (if I have the skills) and then use the job offer to gain permanent residency in Germany?

Won't they ask me the relationship between biology and programming?

Programming is not by any means related to biology which happens to be the course of study in University

In the cases I have seen, one does not need to start from B.SC. Most of them simply take up learning programming on the side with whatever they are doing, try to get werkstudent jobs to help with experience in that field and post degree apply for jobs which they get. I do know someone that simply started assisting an Indian small IT business in order to gain IT experience, he has since become an IT professional. Most IT firms especially startups will employ anyone with programming skills irrespective of the educational background.
Also, there are english taught B.Sc courses in IT. Example is Information Engineering in Hamburg. I am sure a little research can reveal more. I think Dolpaz's school has a B.Sc course in english for computer science also. This is if you really want to go the B.Sc route.

According to German system for permanent residency, the student should get job related to course of study for permanent residency.
If that is the case, it means you must get job related to your Msc degree not programming before you can be considered for permanent residency?

Please this is just a question, I will really want people to clarify this point.
My priority is to follow every possible path to get permanent residency irrespective of the initial payment
