uchman: (Nmax - Nattained/Nmax - Nlowest) x 3 +1. Where Nmax = Highest possible GPA to get (5 for university and 4 for polytechnic) Nattained = The GPA you graduated with Nlowest = Lowest possible GPA for a pass (usually 1) I am sure, you can now use your simple Mathematical skill to do the computation by yourself using your own personal GPA as Nattained 5 Likes 2 Shares |

englishgirl55: Finally booked A. Category issues started with our set. I initially booked category B but because it was taking too long, I canceled it and booked category A and even clicked that I had scholarship while I didn't have. I was invited for interview within three days of booking category A and no issues at all. (I am not advising anyone to play such gamble because things are getting tougher now and you have a very high percentage of being kicked out if you try such now) Another guy in my group also canceled his own and booked under category A and he was bounced back for booking a wrong category. You have to know that this German Waka na by head. It's always advisable to book the right category to avoid being sent back home from the embassy |

This is a typical exam task of a typical German university. After doing the task, you prepare to present it before the two lecturers handling the course. So you must be ready to study if your aim is to come to Germany otherwise you hear am sharp sharp. Anaghịkwa asị ndo na Germany. By now you also must have heard that in most schools, you are not allowed to fail one course more than three times. All these information like I said is not to scare anyone but to prepare your mindset. I was also properly informed before coming 2 Likes

IMustWin: Depending on your school. Germany has two types of tertiary institutions. 1. University of Applied sciences (Fachhochschule) 2. Technical universities. University of Applied sciences is more of practical while Technical universities is more of research but also have incorporated practicals depending on the course. I am a student of RWTH Aachen University (technical university) and here it's really tough. There is nothing like continous assessment in most German technical universities or even quiz or test as you may call it. They just tell you what to do and when you do it within the specified period, they grade your performance over 100%. Some exams are just presentation and report writing, and you already know before now that Germans are generally not easy to please because here quality is a watch word and you must really do quality things to earn quality marks. I have almost 30 courses to do throughout the duration of my MSc program and in all these courses, it's just 11 written exams. All others are presentations, Practicals and report writing 3 Likes 2 Shares |

I also went through our course modules and discovered that Python/Matlab will be actively used in three courses and prior knowledge is desired to pass the courses though they will briefly introduce it for beginners. Right now, I don't wanna learn many programming language. I just wanna learn Python and be very good at it 4 Likes 1 Share |

This thread is indeed very powerful. I will likely take a semester break next semester and focus on learning Deutsch to B1 level within 6 months from A1 level I am now. I need the language like crazy now. I have already seen the school and it will cost me 500 Euros. Then in addition, I will like to learn Python programming (data analysis which is needed in my field later) but I don't really know how to start since I don't have any damn programming skills apart from the C++ boring course we did in my BSc level where the lecturer was writing codes on the board |

Hello everyone, I finally met with the career adviser of my school, a young and beautiful lady. She asked me why I want to leave a prestigious school like RWTH Aachen University to start a BSc program at 29yrs old? I told her that I want a degree with which I can easily get professional job after graduation, a degree that has more opportunities in Germany and that's why I want to change to computer science. She said that there are opportunities in my course and most courses in Germany if I possess the right skills and speak the langauge well, that I don't necessarily need to start afresh from BSc. That even if I want to go into IT field, I should learn the skills of interest somewhere in Germany or even online while still undergoing my MSc program, that German companies usually employ you base on what you can do and that's why you see graduates of Microbiology working in the IT firm simply because they possess the right skills. She said that RWTH Aachen university is among the best schools in Germany with all the facilities at my disposal to learn and become an employable person and also has a good link to the industry, that I shouldn't waste that opportunity. She asked me if I have started learning German langauge and I said yes, she replied ''TOLL, if you learn at least one level every semester, that will be atleast B2 before 2 years which meets up the entry requirement of all vacancies'' She ended the discussion by saying that Germany welcomes everyone but selects the good ones, that if I want to be selected, I must be good in what I do. I have never seen a young girl such wise and calm in speech. I think I will book another appointment with her sef 26 Likes 6 Shares |

BelieverDE: Nice points. First of all, I have not said I want to switch over to BSc program, I just asked if anyone has done it but honestly I am thinking towards that direction, I have already booked an appointment with the career advisor department in my school and the outcome of the appointment will finalize my thought. As you already know, I am currently in RWTH doing the Applied Geoscience MSc program and everything is moving perfectly well because I flow with the lectures and I make money too (I am just over 2 months in Germany). I understand the courses and I am aware of the joint geophysics program which is only 1,000 Euros per semester in case you don't know. That's apart. Now coming to your question why do you want to switch to a BSc course I think of switching to BSc in computer science or information engineering or electrical and electronics engineering this time in a university of applied science which is more practical oriented and encompasses long period compulsory internship programs in their studies. In the university of applied science, they are not deep into research and theories, they are deep into practical and train students for the industry. I am someone that wants to work in the industry and won't like doing a Ph.D. without any work experience after Msc. Here in Germany, companies don't care much about your good result, they care about your skills and internship experience is highly indispensable in your CV while seeking for employment in the industries. Now most Geology students graduate without going for internships because there are very few companies who advertise for internships for Geologists. In fact, honestly, there are very few companies who need the services of Geologists in Germany unless your area of specialization is Engineering Geology which unfortunately is all done in the German language. If you think I am not saying the truth, you can do a quick research about it using your computer or asking those that have graduated in any German university. Geologists have much opportunities in countries with abundant mineral resources and crude oil like Nigeria, Australia, America, Canada, Norway, Saudi Arabia and even at that, getting into the oil industry is not always easy because most Geology graduates want to work there thereby making entry very competitive. You made mention of going to conferences and getting a connection with those already in the industry, now let me ask you a question and I want you to be honest with me. I am happy you are a Geologist too, how many connections did you make during NAPE conference in Nigeria that gave you job? Here in Germany, they don't have much oil. They are more into manufacturing and production. I know you will say what of Canada, UK, and America? You can as well go there and search for jobs? The fact remains that doing MSc in a different country and getting job in another country is very very difficult because you need a resident permit of that country and even a work permit to get job there. Now, how will you be in Germany and get a resident permit and work permit of Canada and USA for them to offer you jobs? Are there no graduates from that country who are ready to fill the limited vacancy? Why should they leave those graduates to employ someone without a resident and work permit? Unless you are the only one that has what they need which is not always the case. Most people here in most courses start another MSc programs just to continue staying in Germany but to me instead of doing multiple MSc upon Msc, I rather save the energy and start in a field that won't make me do so many Msc just to hang around on the fence. I know some are unemployed because of inability to speak the language up to B2 level but the fact still remains that in some departments you don't have to battle much before landing a professional job. Getting a part time job is easy but getting a professional job-ready to pay you up to the needed amount for your Blue card (Permanent residency) is not easy to come about especially for a Geologist. You should know that without a professional job here you don't have a root unless you marry a German. If I may ask, why do you want to switch your program? I am thinking of building a career in a field that has unlimited opportunities everywhere in the world in other to have a high probability of getting a professional job offer that will enable me to process my permanent residency after graduation and not start doing another masters in the same course with the aim to continue staying in Europe The decision is not yet concluded until I visit the career advice department, they have already given me an appointment for that after writing to them CC RealFirstLady For a better idea of what is going on in most cases read the below article though I must confess the guy exaggerated it when he brought racism into it. https://www.nairaland.com/5185821/should-move-uk-return-nigeria 10 Likes 5 Shares |

MY FIRST LECTURE EXPERIENCE IN GERMANY Today, our lecture officially started by 10:30 am with a course that is very sweet to the ear. Na me first come class, even before 10 am, traced the lecture hall and sat down in the front row (each lecture has lecture class where it will be held and as a stranger, you have to trace it earlier to avoid missing the lecture). The Lecturer arrived the hall 20mins before the lecture started (German's don't joke with time) and used our enrollment list to select people for group one according to when each person register for the course, I was among the first group, others were told to come back later for their own class. Omo ehh, he introduced the course and say make everybody put on his or her computer, He shared something wey dey like flash but smaller in size to everyone and told us to all plug it in the CPU beside each computer and he started lecturing, the class involves teaching with a software. Everything was so strange to me and he was damn fast, as he was teaching. I was expecting a handout and normal dictation but saw slides and software instead. I became hooked at a point, and looked into the system of one guy beside me, he is also a Nigerian, I wanted to use his own method to probably correct myself but I noticed that he was even struggling to login to the computer sef let alone doing the needed task, other white students dey busy dey work for number three while I no even sabi how to get to number two. As the thing hook me too much, I call the graduate assistant and he helped me out. I noticed that their system of education is totally different from ours and more practically oriented. One really needs additional work to do in other to scale through efficiently 24 Likes 3 Shares |
