You can create a poll. Let the most active guys in the post vote on which language they will like to go with. For me I say the option should be between java and python. But again that is my choice.

You want an application that rocks and you are already thinking technology (J2ME). Brother that is not the way to go. You complain that 2go does not have a web site, and you already lock yourself into the same error.

You don't need to talk client specifically. Talk on what you think will make you a better provider of chat. Have you found a better algorithm to reduce the data size being sent back and forth. Do you think you will do a better job than whatapp, ebuddy and nimbuzz.

Do you also realize that chat is really not a profitable business per say. Have you thought of how you are going to make money to sustain the 24/7 servers that a chat application requires.

If you have the answers to this, then count me in.

Kobojunkie:

TASK ONE -- This link is for MDA link . . . I found this while spelunking and I am certain someone out there can easily work on this. Essentially put together a table or two containing the Agency info, linking it to the contents of the included excel file

http://www.servenigeria.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=306&Itemid=234

TASK TWO -- This is the link to Federal Projects. Not really in pdf format. I have emailed a couple pf times requesting the data in downloadable format but no reply to date. So what needs to happen is the project list needs to be linked in to some database(probably manual work) and the information on each also needs to be logged in other table(s). I will leave this to the person who decides to work on this but this is information we need, so feel free to ask any questions of me on how it can be done.

I can handle that if that is ok.

NIce idea. Basically some one raised the point that this is just a glorified data capturing project. The thing is I see nothing wrong with that. Data has been one of the things that is really lacking in our country, and any attempt at helping out is great. So here is how I see it. Maybe we should focus first (and actually begin) on deciding on what data to capture, the how and how to verify the integrity of the data.

I already see that we have answered Q 2 and Kobo is already working on that. But we need to answer question one what data do we capture that will best explain the budget to everyone. And Q 3 how do you verify each data you input into the system. Remember one source of information on the web is not always a great idea.

Finally, since our government will not initiate open gov data. This could be a start of something along that line. That means what ever we design lets find a way to design an application that can allow others to use the data we are capturing, and if possible contribute to it. Data is fun when used by all.

So what now. Will be a happy man if we can decide on the language, technology and actually begin (My opinion cause I am agile)

Shake my head , in total disgust, Na wa o.

I want to be sure, all this insult are they like for real. Is there so much hatred in the heart of the average Nigerian. Tribalism, is as deadly as terrorism or even racism. It is a time bomb waiting to explode. How much longer before a group of people become "cockroaches" fit for matcheting. Let us thread jejely young peeps.
Religion / Re: Video : Bishop David Oyedepo Responds To Slap-gate ! by gozzilla(m): 9:45pm On Dec 28, 2011
You speak hastily. I have not asked that the actions of our leaders not be questioned far from it. What I am against, is the use of offensive language against a constituted authority. No matter how you frame it all in the name of freedom of speech, it is wrong.

I will always use the illustration of the average Nigerian that will insult the Nigerian policeman, but will not be bold to question that same police man on the reason for his action. Insults is wasted energy. Lets channel that energy to better things. When we end up insulting one another, we create fences where we should be mending them and forging ahead.

We need selfless men. Men in the mould of Martin Luther King. Men who will fight for a cause and be above reproach. A man that shoots insults like you do will never qualify. We need leaders - initiators, not critics. Every man can be a critic. Not every man can lead. Always remember maturity is not in content alone, presentation is half of it.

Charlatans he calls them. Men that have helped a whole generation. Lets look aside for a moment. Come down from that your high throne. Put aside your judgmental lenses and have a good honest look. How many lives have these men touched? HAVE THEY BEEN GOOD FOR OUR SOCIETY?

Lets judge rationally.
Religion / Re: Video : Bishop David Oyedepo Responds To Slap-gate ! by gozzilla(m): 8:43pm On Dec 28, 2011
I think the nation will do well in my hands than in the hands of fellows whose first word out of their mouth is a curse word. I love all your logical reason, but I still can not understand what we find so nice in cursing. In calling a fellow human a cretin or some other name. It saddens the heart.

I would rather a man that fights for what he believes than a man that fights against all he does not believe. You all claim to believe in nothing yet you keep telling us that believe in something, how wrong we are.

I want to know what you guys believe. You do not think this men are men of God, what then do you think. Are you guys atheist or traditionalist. What are you?
Religion / Re: Advise To People Whom Enjoy Cursing Anointed Men Of God Like Bsp David Oyedepo by gozzilla(m): 4:44pm On Dec 28, 2011
Nonsense he said.

A society where we curse like it is nothing. Questioning is a whole different concept from insulting. Help me explain why a normal Nigerian will find joy in insulting a police man, but will not question him on why he is taking bribe.

I understand questioning, I wish more of us will do that, but insulting I do not understand. It turns us in to a pack of uncivilized folks. It is the concept of finesse, etiquette that Africa has always lacked. Not respect.
Religion / Re: Video : Bishop David Oyedepo Responds To Slap-gate ! by gozzilla(m): 4:32pm On Dec 28, 2011
I am surprised at the level of decay our society keeps slipping in to.

You have to understand that God not only talks about Pastors (or men of God) being given such high esteem, it talks about us respecting all authority. It means it is also not very wise to insult your leaders, even the so called elected one.

These things are so spiritual, there is no way to explain it logically. Remember it is like creation, so spiritual, that all attempt at a logical explanation fails or falls short.
Religion / Re: Advise To People Whom Enjoy Cursing Anointed Men Of God Like Bsp David Oyedepo by gozzilla(m): 4:17pm On Dec 28, 2011
But this is all common sense. No society prospers when its "elders" are ridiculed and their wisdom ignored.

It is a sorry case when so many feel that insults is the way to go. You simply can not say something is all wrong when you clearly do not have a better option. These men you accuse of being evil we are yet to see the offences they have committed. A man builds a vision and a dream, we should crave for more of his type, rather we want him down. We are building a dangerous society for ourselves.
Politics / Ethnicity. Destroying The Country- Even Chinua Achebe Thinks So. by gozzilla(m): 9:53am On Sep 15, 2011

For all those who love ethnicity.

How ethnicity, graft, others ruined Nigeria, by Achebe

LITERARY icon, Prof. Chinua Achebe yesterday lamented the nation’s woes, painting a picture of how the Nigeria-Biafra war which was precipitated by the bile of ethnic hatred, created a clique of military class and political adventurers that ruined the country.

He said this ugly development has been made easy by Nigerian academics who have presided over the liquidation of the university system in Nigeria and the rise of a culture of anti-intellectualism in the country.

Achebe made the remarks in a keynote address titled “Literature and Ethnicity” which he delivered at the Garden City Literary Festival taking place at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State. He was represented by his third son, Dr. Chidi.

The renowned professor of literature who spoke to the audience through a recorded video, recalled that though Nigeria is today steeped in ethnic and religious tensions, there was once a time when it was seen as a land of great hope, progress; a nation of immense resources including a great diversity of vibrant people who have not always been on the best of terms, but had collaborated to produce great results for the betterment of all. He said the Nigeria-Biafra war changed all that.

Present at the event were the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, American civil rights activist, Jesse Jackson, Vice Chancellor of UPORT, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, Prof. Molara Ogundipe, Prof. Femi Osofisan, Prof. Nkem Okoh, Prof. Chidi Maduka and other dignitaries.

Achebe said: “Since the war, Nigerians have been subjected to a clique of military and civilian adventurers and a political class that have exploited the ethnic divisions in Nigeria. This group, unfortunately, has been completely corrupted, spearheading the enormous transfer of the country’s wealth into private bank accounts, a wholesale theft of the national resources needed for all kinds of things - health, education, roads. The result has been that the nation’s infrastructure was left to disintegrate unleashing untold suffering on millions of innocent people.”

He noted that what upsets him most is that the entire mess, which Nigeria has found itself today was quite avoidable. According to him, the leadership appears not to really care for the welfare of the country and its people.

Achebe noted that for him, it was such a cataclysmic experience that has virtually changed the history of Africa and that of Nigeria such that he had to rethink all his optimism about the country.

He berated the academia for allegedly collaborating with the military and the civilian authorities to foster a culture of anti-intellectualism and misgoverning the country.

“If a political class, including intellectuals, university professors, and people like that, who have read all the books and know how the world works, had based their actions on principles rather than on opportunity, Nigeria would not have been in this predicament. But Nigerian leaders, beginning with the military dictators, looked around and saw that they could buy intellectuals,” Achebe said.

He said he despairs over Nigeria daily because of her missed opportunities and the fact that nobody has had the imagination to transcend all the ethnic pettiness and become a leader of modern Nigeria.

“So, let us stop all this nonsense about religion, about tribe and so on. Let us organise Nigeria and make it a working entity so that it can fulfil its mission in the world,” he said.

Achebe tasked Nigerian writers and their counterparts around the world to continue to point out the ills in the society even if it produces headaches in the halls of power.

Patron of the festival, Governor Amaechi, said the choice of literature and politics as the theme of this year’s edition of the festival was informed by the fact that politics permeates every aspect of life.

“From the role of women in our society to the struggles of those who feel their points of view are not clearly heard, to the development of our environment, literature probes every facets of our experience, including those bearings on political matters. This year’s festival offers a forum where writers, public figures, scholars and other citizens can discuss the nature and implications of the relationship between literature and politics. My hope is that at the end of this festival, we will come away with deeper insights and a renewed sense of the vital link between literature and politics.”

Amaechi also urged writers to reflect reality, noting that one of their major roles is to identify problems of the society and provide solutions to them.

Anyaoku who chaired the event, stressed that though education is the gateway to the development of any nation, such development would remain far from being achieved if it lacks a good literary culture.

He explained that if politics is to produce a non-dysfunctional world, politics needs literature because the two reinforce each other for good policy.

On his part, the American civil rights leader and former presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, Revd. Jesse Jackson stated that Nigeria’s stability and growth are huge things to the world, saying that, literacy, as the Garden City Literary Festival is promoting, is the key to liberation and that those who have the strong minds break strong chains.

He stated that literacy and poverty cannot co-exist, thus education is a key to competing into this world and “that thinking enables us to co-exist.”

Festival director, Koko Kalango observed that the GCLF has become a yearly forum for networking and conducting business with books, with intellectual ideas as common denominator
Politics / Is Rocha's For Real? by gozzilla(m): 10:01am On Jun 14, 2011
If Nigeria is to change for the better, the state governments must work very well, quite apart from anything the Federal Government will do. The scale of our challenges mean that the governors do not have a moment to lose in bringing development to their states. Of all the new governors, Rochas Okorocha has been quickest off the mark, and has taken a number of important actions already, less than 2 weeks in office. These actions merit further scrutiny, if only to determine whether the people of Imo state have gotten it right this time.

Before his inauguration, Rochas had the accounts of the state frozen. Strictly speaking, it is unconstitutional as he didn’t have the powers to do so. However, defeated governors are in the habit of emptying the treasury and signing off on questionable contracts prior to handover, then disappearing into thin air to escape prosecution. Any probe into their activities might be termed a ‘witch-hunt’ by the former governor’s supporters, so Rochas probably preferred to be rather safe than sorry.

Ikedi Ohakim’s offer of 10,000 jobs in the state civil service to Imo indigenes was met with howls of derision when it announced a couple of years ago, especially when all applicants had to buy a scratch card of N2,000. The new governor has suspended those job offers, with good reason: the state is yet to implement the new minimum wage of N18,000 and already employs 13,000 people. Implementing it will double the wage bill, and a further 10,000 people will almost quadruple spending on salaries alone. This is without any increase in infrastructure investment. Most of them don’t even have desks or chairs. When they came together to protest, the deputy governor promised that real jobs will be created for them. It was very mischievous of Ohakim to give employment to that number of people when there was no arrangement for them, just before leaving office, leaving the new governor to deal with the fall-out. You can’t just manufacture jobs out of thin air.

Imo’s 27 local councils and 44 Area Development centres have also been dissolved by Okorocha, citing a system fraught with corruption and indiscipline. While this is probably true, it remains to be seen what structures will take their place. Local councils are crucial, simply because they are closest to the people. A more efficient system must be a priority. He also dissolved the state council of traditional rulers, saying they are too political. Again, he has a point. Most traditional rulers in Nigeria have become part of the problem, sacrificing their moral authority on the altar of fiduciary concerns, preferring to lobby for contracts directly or through proxies. 4 years is too short for such things.

The most positive news coming out of Imo state since May 29 has been in the area of education. This is not surprising, considering that Rochas has been heavily involved in improving access to education through the Rochas Foundation. He looks set to continue this trend as governor. One of his pledges was of free primary and secondary education, and he has cut his ‘security vote’ from N6.5 billion to N2.5 billion to fund it. It is unheard of for any state governor to cut this ambiguously named part of his budget, which the Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso called an avenue for corruption, but maybe that is an advantage of electing a person who was already wealthy before taking public office. He has also reduced the fees of Imo State University from N150,000 to N49,000, which the students had protested for very recently.

As a man who has, through his foundation, spent the last decade increasing the number of young people who have access to education, he clearly understands the importance of it, and seems ready to take the necessary steps as governor to extend it to even more people. For this reason, his start looks promising. He is also not afraid of taking decisions that may not be popular. A necessary trait in our country.

What do you think? Is Rochas on the right track? Is he for real?

Just an advice, using height: auto is not necessary in css since it is the default value when none is specified. That said, the better way to write it would be 100% if you intend it to be the same height with the parent container. Some how auto and 100% will not produce the same result.
