PoliticsRe: What Tangible Thing Has The Fg Done The Past 10 Years? by gozzilla(m): 2:20pm On Aug 10, 2010
I could say lots, but the word here is tangible. Tangible will be stable power supply (must not be 24 hrs but a stable number of hours for a start), health (emergency response inclusive in all state or even federal highway), telecommunication (lower tariff and better services) i could go on and on.

The good thing though is that Nigerians are doing tangible things, just wish the nation can do more.

He wants the real thing. These stuff are the real thing. The "real thing" actually is powered by electricity, which homes in nigeria need more than the real. But honestly this locomotive trains are still in use in the western world, more especially in China. Maybe not to convey people, but it is still in use. Let us not throw the bath water with the baby. As we rebuild this stuff, when the "real thing" come we would have benefitted. Our roads will have less cargo travelling on them.

We should begin to learn what to do with this mess and not keep saying this is mess.

ikenwan:
The deployment of the voting registration system would entail both hardware and software,
And being that hardware price decreases when bought wholesale from a retail
It will be a fraud if they go out there to purchase that large number of laptop. This softwares are for specific things, so they can be put in say any handheld device. You don't need to get something "fancy" that will end in the officials homes after the election. Then we will be needing another  billions come next election.
BusinessRe: Nigeria Railways Introduces First-class Passenger Trains In Lagos by gozzilla(m): 2:57am On Aug 10, 2010
Am not saying i understand what everbody said there. Don't get me wrong. I guess at times you are even too logical for anyone to dispute with. That i give to you.
But nonetheless any progress is progress. Of course in the context of a nation like Nigeria it might not be good enough, but it is a good thing nonetheless.

About the 10 years thing i simply meant if every administration will keep doing something on every infrastructure we have, we will make progress. Its that simple, if this government adds say 1000MW to the existing electricity, without ignoring the old facilities, we will end up having a plus. If the next one does same in 10 years time we will see upward trends. That was what i meant.

The GPS thing don't get me wrong you could read my post. I wasn't saying your points were not good enough. Just that at times we should not let those that criticise for no reason at all, keep being just that critics by endorsing their pessimism. We need what can be done with this mess, rather than this is mess.
PoliticsRe: Software Engineer Faults Inec’s N74bn Budget For Voter Registration by gozzilla(m): 2:47am On Aug 10, 2010
@becomrich3 what exactly will be the point you are making. You said you have not seen the old software in question and yet you go ahead insulting without information. You gain nothing in pulling others down. I know you know that.
Make your point don't try to tell us how they need 120000 lappy. Laptop is not software.

Kobojunkie:
Better late than never. . . . no matter how slow and how much it continues to cost us.
Rightly said. Any progress is progress. Hey, it might be slow. But imagine if this had been done 10 years ago, then right now we should be talking about the speed. The matter with the nation has been the gradual ( some might argue rapid) decay of government infrastructure due to negligence.

Am wondering if Kobo should have said same for the Lagos GPS project

PoliticsRe: Real-time Gps Station Goes Live In Lagos State by gozzilla(m): 2:33am On Aug 10, 2010
Any progress at all is progress. I find it hard to understand all this questioning. Sometimes i wonder has our nation gotten to the level where everybody is a pessimist. Yes it seems like duplication of technology. Yes a handheld can do this and that. Yes really what is this technology for. Yes lots of questions to ask. Yes. But you know what i think this forum should be a knowledge based one. Not one where people come around to drag superiority claims. If this is a good technology, irrespective of the cost, the reinvention of the wheel, lets talk about its usefulness.
How can one make use of this thing. Can it help traffic like they claim? Can it make Lagosians tech savvy? Like someone pointed out what benefit is it to a market woman? The ability to make use of any technology is superior knowledge. Always realise the ability to criticise is in everybody, but the ability to create lies only in the great. So show your class.

PoliticsRe: Sanusi Hits Banks Again: Calls Them 'Gambling Centers' by gozzilla(m): 1:18pm On Jul 21, 2010
This has always been my point from the very beginning of Sanusi's reign. First, i felt he was too spontaneous, and i still stand by that. I don't believe he has a long term plan for the banking sector. Every of his move has been more reactional than calculated. Now sanusi who at one time was a top director in one of our bank accuses the bank of being gambling centers. A banker should know better, he is the head of a "gambling center". His speech will not change any of that. Gambling has been all banks are all about. That is why the big international banks can go bankrupt in one bad deal. That is why the frauds at such banks are massive.

Now this is not to say that his accusation is wrong, but what is he doing about it. Now that the whole clean up euphoria is gone where are the real banking (really economic ) policies that the economy needs. Let him not end up making Soludo's tenujre look so good.
ProgrammingRe: Why Are Nigerian Programmers So Smart? by gozzilla(m): 12:11pm On Jul 21, 2010
Are Nigerian Programmers so dumb? Really don't you think they are.
On the other hand are they really that dumb. I realized one thing about IT, it can only strife with the help of the government. The honest truth is that it is the government that has the money, and the right policy to embark on really interesting projects. Don't get me wrong, one can always come up with interesting idea, but nothing can beat an e-government idea. You can come up with say a pay system. For the government that could be e-pay system. The market is the citizen of the country. For you the market is just a fraction of the citizenry.

Stuffs like defense, education, health - the truth is all sector of government - can cause an IT revolution. Imagine the government asking all entry exams into any institution to be computer based. That is a billlion plus industry. Imagine the government networking the whole police force. When i mean networking i mean networking. All emergency calls can be monitored in one center - like the call center for Telecommunications. And talking about call centers - imagine the government enactiing a policy that forces all customer related company to have a functional call center.

The possibilities are enormous and endless. It will begin when the government begins but until then never give up on the smart Nigerian programmer he is smart but lacking opportunity
FamilyRe: Is It Proper To Make My Wife Next Of Kin? by gozzilla(m): 10:26am On Jul 12, 2010
I read this post and realised one thing, Nigerians are not knowledgeable in things of the law. Like someone rightly pointed next of Kin is more a legal obligation that a financial or beneficiary thing. See if you are thinking of the future of your son. Simply write out a will that makes him your inheritor. But in matters of decision making you better make your wifey next of kin. You can even make your brother one

ProgrammingRe: Please Help To Solve This Java Problem. by gozzilla(m): 5:57pm On Jul 08, 2010
First you have a nice code there. It actually solves the problem in hand. Right. But if you need to do this for say 100 or even a 1000 voucher how long will it take you to do this. So assuming this is a code for a "commercial " or even a program to help, i think a Japanese calculator will do fine.

So here is your solution. The voucher number can easily be save in a file. Your program will read the numbers from the file.

get a file
read the file
get each voucher(item)
do operation;

Finally, no one seems to want to touch your code cos you ainnt so clear about what you want done.
PoliticsRe: "ghollywood" And Nollywood Go To War by gozzilla(m): 4:26pm On Jul 08, 2010
I personally don''t dig nigerian film. But what is all the argument about. This entertainment industry that you deride is the livelihood of some. It has brought fame to others. For others it has kept them in the limelight. I don''t get it. Do you realise bolly wood never tries to be hollywood. You know why? Entertainment industry has a simply defination if it sells don''t change the formula.
So will nigerian films get better? Maybe when they sense it will pay them well to get better, but until that time put the telly off when you see one. If that one no do you smash the telly. Chikenna
PoliticsRe: Facebook Influenced My U-turn On National Teams’ Ban — President by gozzilla(m): 7:52am On Jul 08, 2010
First when i heard the decision i thought this must be a wrong decision. No sooner had the ban being declared FIFA comes threathening us. How do they manage to do that.
Then i heard the various face-saving stories, so so has been removed from NFF, so-so has pleaded with the president. This simply tells you how hasty our politicians are in making public declarations.

Now don' get me wrong, i think it is a good thing, the facebook thing. Obama gets applauded for embracing technology we should do same for our president.

See question o,
Guess everybody hates ant. I know it is not an Ide or compiler blah blah blah. Just used it for illustration. Get it

Okay in the ant build file you actually say make this directory (referring to the package) after all a package is simply a folder. I know for you this example will not make sense but ask a beginner using Netbeans to explain the concept of package.

candylips:
using an IDE ? overkill ?
Absolute overkill. An IDE begins to make sense as you get to GUI building and particularly, my word particularly as you begin developing enterprise application. Its killing a fly with a missile.
Simple example consider the simple issue of package. Handled in a different way in an IDE, because IDEs make use of ant to build source code. and on and on
Fdeveloper:
@gozzilla: So are you saying that a beginner must always learn java the hard way?

The official java tutorial from Sun recommends using an IDE to learn java and I would suggest that they in all probability have a little more experience with these things than your good self

Official. A big joke. Tell me you learnt Enterprise java reading java Tutorial on JEE. They will love to sell their product.
