Billyonaire: I know a lot about Democracy, far more than your paymasters. That's why I was able to make a better decision to support an elite intelligent party than a mere habitat of Islamists. The issue of arms purchase is sensitive and national security related. The lawmakers know that, so its been shelved for the sake of Nigeria Unity. Fashola by miles though the state of Lagos roads is pathetic. Other than that, he has touched every sector of governance. Lagos is the only state in Nigeria that can run without the governor or allocation. I will vote you again if possible. Kwankwaso has been fantastic with projects and accountability. I like governments that focus on housing. The memo of the government's weekly meeting is always published for everyone to see. Aregbeshola, lowest federal allocation, one of the highest IGR, i am absolutely impressed. Agriculture? No one comes close. Akpabio, world class infrastructure while other sectors are dying. Highest allocation and struggling to pay contractors, for a state of under 5 million people. Delta, kogi, abia, benue, kaduna, taraba, kebbi, oyo governors should face the firing squad after gej. 29 Likes 1 Share |

Politics / Buhari And The Northern Elites by grafikii: 12:57pm On Sep 11, 2014 |
Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, is no stranger to the contest, having run thrice before in 2003, 2007 and 2011. There is no doubt about the popularity of the peoples’ general, but his mass support has not put him office principally because certain sections of the northern elite fear that the egalitarian Buhari may erode the basis of their privileges. I believe that what should matter to Nigerian voters are the track-records, integrity, sincerity and vision of a candidate, not their region or religion. The reality, as we all know, is different, especially with a president who deliberately finds ways of aggravating religious and ethnic divides for political advantage. It has been observed, rightly, illiteracy, corruption, injustice and inequality are the major factors fueling northern Nigeria’s ongoing religious, political, social and economic upheavals, and that even the most basic form of good governance will go a long way to mitigate these challenges. It is clear that without drastic change, things may get even worse in the north, and consequently, Nigeria as a whole. It is equally apparent that Jonathan has neither the inclination, nor the capacity to manage these challenges. The question is, now that even the North’s elite are no longer safe, will they bite the bullet and support Buhari if he emerges as the APC’s candidate? As they have in the past, I think that the northern establishment will work for Jonathan. I do not see Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau, Adamu Ciroma, Barnabas Gemade, Jonah Jang, Gabriel Suswam, Bello Mohammed Halliru, Samaila Sa bawa, Ibrahim Mantu, David Mark, Jerry Gana, Sarki Tafida, Jonathan Zwingina, and others supporting Buhari’s candidature. For them, the present state of insecurity and uncertainty is more acceptable than a possible Buhari presidency. That is because the interests of the northern establishment is, and has always been different from that of the ordinary people of the region. The North that supports Buhari has nothing to do with the usurpation of political and economic opportunities to the exclusion of other Nigerians. Buhari’s North is the North that is poor, hungry, illiterate and devoid of hope. Buhari’s followers are the victims of the corruption and arrogance of the narrow clique in the establishment that has held Nigeria hostage for decades. His north is one for whom the various administrations headed by northerners have not resulted in better lives, education or improved opportunities. Buhari’s north does not fly to Europe or America every fortnight for medical checkups or shopping sprees in Dubai. This north does not keep bank accounts in London, New York, Dubai, South Africa, Jordan, Beijing and Hong Kong; they own no bank accounts at all. This north that does not allocate all the best positions in the country to its children, qualified or not. Buhari’s north simply wants a better life. Given the security and economic situation in the North today, if votes were to be free and fair, Jonathan will not get up to 10% of votes from the region. This is because despite proclamations, if Jonathan has achieved anything in the past four years, it has not reached them. To add insult to injury, he is sending the wrong the emissaries to woo their votes – the same people that systematically impoverished the region and the country. Northern elite may despise Buhari and vehemently oppose his return to office because they suspect, rightly or wrongly, that he may destroy their power base and end their corruption and nepotism. But how long will they continue to ally with, and support a system that has proved to be incapable of protecting the very system from which they derive their benefits? Does the northern establishment fear Buhari so much that they are willing to support a clueless leadership, whose incompetence threatens the existence of the North and Nigeria, simply because they want to preserve their elite status? Interesting times make for interesting choices. Culled |

What exactly is the admin's problem with the Apc, pro Apc topics have stopped hitting the front page, while anything pro pdp or pro gej is quickly moved up. The height of it is the removal of the thread Lagos politics development in pictures from the politics section to the travel section while the thread on lagos debts is a sticky on the section after it graced the front page. www.nairaland.com/1894158/lagos-politics-progress-development-pictorial/5#26176012 What has a thread on health care, education, infrastructure, justice, commissioners and the Apc got to do with the travel section? Threads for development in akwa ibom, enugu, jigawa, ibadan and co not only made front page, they are still in the politics section. I read recently comments of the admin asking Apc supporters to stop supporting boko haram, i have see obvious bias on this forum but this latest development is unbelievable. I ask again, what is the nairaland's problem with the Apc? 4 Likes 1 Share |

Politics / Fashola To Apc Publicity Secretaries: Stay With The Issues by grafikii: 4:03pm On Sep 03, 2014 |
FASHOLA TO APC PUBLICITY SECRETARIES: STAY WITH THE ISSUES, REINFORCE HOW APC IS CLEARLY DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS …As Governor receives State Publicity Secretaries of APC during Summit in Lagos Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN on Tuesday received the Publicity Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from various States in the country, charging them to continue to reinforce the differences and ideas that drive the party. Describing that inaugural Summit of the Publicity Secretaries held in Lagos as a defining historic initiative, Governor Fashola said the party image makers should proceed to articulate more clearly issues in their respective states. Noting that the All Progressives Congress has shown the difference between it and the other parties by its unique approach to issues, Governor Fashola identified the two broad categories of States in which the Publicity Secretaries operate adding that they must continue to stay with the issues in both cases. According to the Governor, the kind of politics being played by the APC is one that has changed the game because the people had expected the party to do the traditional things but are seeing the party that is organizing periodic lectures on topical national issues which is a departure from the past. He reiterated that the responsibility to detail what is different will rest with each and every one of the party publicity secretaries in terms of reinforcing the difference and escalating the ideas that drives the Party. According to the Governor, the APC would hold other parties to the issues as every election should be about the issues that affect the people which should be discussed frontally and openly. “For those who already understand the caliber of men and women who make up APC and who know that they are long distance runners, there are lots of expectations from us. There are some people in our party and they are quite a number and people know them that when they set on a course, they will give everything that it takes. The short distance runners will find their levels as we go on. So that put a lot of expectations on this party and it brings a lot of responsibilities, the responsibilities that am sure that we can discharge it would be your duty to more clearly now articulate issues in your States”, he stated. He explained that by comparison the APC States have shown clearly more developmental capacity adding that even in those states that it does not have a government, whatever the government of the day is doing there with the APC ideas, given the same resources, the APC would do better. Citing specific examples, Fashola explained that as Publicity Secretaries they must help people make the necessary connection that poverty cannot be eradicated without electricity and that if there is no power, factories would not run, if factories do not run, there would be no jobs and if there are no jobs the people would be poor. “You would not be saying anything that is manufactured. You would only be taking them through a logical sequence and that is only one sequence. The other sequence is that without power the locally produced goods would be very expensive than imported ones, so anybody who is producing here locally is at a disadvantage. His prices cannot compete. Inevitably what happens is that he shuts down, he down sizes resulting in unemployment and poverty”. “These are the dots that you must connect for people who cannot make the connections. Our party does not run the government that controls the critical indices of survival here. We do not control the price of fuel, we do not raise the price of fuel, we do not control the exchange rates and we do not control the index rates”, he said Continuing, the Governor noted that such indices have weighty implications for the production process and eventually the well being of the people. “Those are the rates that affects whether or not companies can produce, how much they can produce at, how effectively they can produce if their prices are not competitive, if what should cost N5 is costing N10, if you have only N10 you can only buy one, but if it is produced at the appropriate price you can buy two, if you buy two it means your demand has increased, if it is increased, it means that the producer must employ more people to meet that demand, these are the very simple and challenging issues”, the Governor explained. Governor Fashola also stressed that the APC is not the party responsible for managing income from oil, asking why the income is disappearing, adding that if the party in control cannot do it then it should let the APC show them how to do it. He added that for him the serious day to day issues that the people of Nigeria must connect with concerns connecting with education, connecting with healthcare, connecting with housing and connecting with security people. According to him: “A man who has no work has a very low threshold for temptation, the person that has work, that has money, after a hard day’s job is going to look for where to enjoy his money in the evening, he is not going to look for trouble. It is natural human behaviour. So you can connect that electricity to so many things and until we have it, things are going to be extremely challenging”. Speaking earlier, the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos Chapter of APC, Mr Joe Igbokwe said the Publicity Secretaries came together because of the need to compare notes, to synergize, understand themselves and share progress and challenges. He added that the Publicity Secretaries have held discussions on the way forward because they believe there is no reason why the APC should not form the government at the federal level in 2015 and are preparing themselves for the change that is coming.
