On the other hand, if the Federal government wants to compensate the Northerners for the misfortune dey brought upon themselves, every tribe in Nigeria should also be compensated, starting with the Igbos. |

To the issue at hand, i wish to emphasize that the request by ohaneze is so much in order with regards to the various atrocities meted to the igbos for 30 months, for no just cause, and as a result, no amount of money can quantify their lost. igbos deserve to be compensated and should be compensated first if any other nation or people must be compensated for loss of any sort in Nigeria. the money or whatever their demands are are in no way commensurate to the various acts of inhumanity meted on them. |

Good one! Kudos to the Nigerian police and the Sudanese authorities. The fight against terror cannot be won without inter-country cooperation. Let justice takes its course! No matter how long, good will always triumph over evil! When countries continue to comply to international coalition against terrorism, the terrorists has nowhere to hide. |

Accuses military of human rights abuse Zacheaus Somorin Human Right Watch revealed Tuesday that Boko Haram has killed at least 2,053 civilians in an estimated 95 attacks during the first half of 2014. According to the group, the figures are based on detailed analyses of media reports as well as field investigations. While describing the killings as crimes against humanity, it noted that the killings and other abuses were part of widespread attacks on civilians in over 70 towns and villages in the Northeast, Abuja and other places. ‘There has been a dramatic increase during 2014 in the numbers of casualties from bomb blasts, including several apparent suicide bombings. Since January, at least 432 people have been reported killed in 14 blasts in crowded marketplaces, a brothel, a technical college, and, on two occasions, places where people were watching soccer matches. Three of these attacks were in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital; two in Kano; two in Jos, the Plateau state capital; and three in Abuja, the federal capital. The Abuja attacks may demonstrate a southward trend of Boko Haram operations, Human Rights Watch said. “Boko Haram is effectively waging war on the people of northeastern Nigeria at a staggering human cost,” said Corinne Dufka, West Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “Atrocities committed as part of a widespread attack on civilians are crimes against humanity, for which those responsible need to be held to account,” he added. It added that the bulk of the attacks and casualties credibly reported and investigated by the organisation took place in Borno State - where 1,446 people died; with attacks killing 151 in Adamawa state and 143 civilians in Yobe state. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/hrw-boko-haram-kills-2-053-civilians-in-6-months/183690/ |

The crisis that is currently rocking the country’s football is far from being over, as the Federal Government has ordered for the closure of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), bank accounts. This latest development came few days after the Federal Government denied the football house their July, monthly allocation, which amounted to N253 million. However, the men in the Glass House had been asked to privately source for their mean of livelihood with their three bank accounts frozen. An impeccable source close to the Glass House hinted that the Ministry of Sports acted to avoid further accusation of government interference in the administration of the round leather game in the country. “There is a general saying which states that you put your money where your mouth is. So, it is believed that this is the simple thing that the government has done. “FIFA has asked the Nigerian government to stay clear of football matters and that has to be done in all areas, which includes funding,” the source posited. Last week, the World football governing body, FIFA, made good its threat to suspend Nigeria, accusing the government of interfering in football administration and had also called for the reinstatement of the sacked Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led NFF board or risk heavy sanctions. Meanwhile, efforts to reach the Nigeria Football Federation assistant Director, Communication, Ademola Olajire on telephone were to no avail. The image maker also failed to reply the text message sent to him to confirm the state of the football house account. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=72216 Nice move if u ask me |
OPC warns Boko Haram Barely one week after 42 suspects were arrested in Lagos and Ogun states, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), a pan-Yoruba ethnic militia, has warned Boko Haram to steer clear of the South-West or be ready for confrontation. It declared its readiness to combat the dreaded Islamist group should its members attack the South-West. It promised to frustrate the activities of Boko Haram in any part of the South-West, if the group moved to the region. Coordinator of the OPC in Osun State, Dr. Rafiu Akinwale, who spoke in an exclusive interview with Daily Sun in Osogbo, said the people of the South-West should not fear that Boko Haram might move to the region. He said the OPC was prepared for members of the Boko Haram and had already set machinery in motion to ensure that it combats the insurgent group. Akinwale disclosed that some youths in the six states of the South-West region had been trained by the OPC on how to tackle Boko Haram members and curtail them in the region. He said: “We consider their threats as empty. We are prepared for the Boko Haram and we are ready to fight them to a standstill if they should enter the South-West region. We have made efforts to ensure that they are reduced to nothing. “We are not begging them not to come to the South-West, in fact, we are urging them to come if they want to do so. They will regret their coming to this region, as we are ready to use all that we have to fight them in the South-West.” The OPC boss added that the OPC would collaborated with all vigilance groups in the six states of the South-West to combat Boko Haram, should the group come to the South-West region, stressing that the traditional rulers in the states were giving necessary support to the association. He called on members of the public to give necessary information on strange movements of people in their areas to the police, saying that the police had shown the readiness to support the OPC in the fight against Boko Haram. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=34589 OPC must act now or never. |
I am still eagerly waiting for OPC response |
