The claim to be of the same nature as God—to in fact be God—was blasphemy to the Jewish leaders; therefore, they demanded Jesus’ death, in keeping with Leviticus 24:15.

Hebrews 1:3 expresses this very clearly: “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being.”


As for Jesus receiving worship in the way that other celestial beings rejected it, there are several examples throughout scripture and these are just two examples:

The Hebrew word Elohim which is used in Psalm 82: 6 is not understood by Christians to mean God in the the divine sense because Elohim has other secondary meanings, depending on the context in which it is used. For example, the word Elohim is translated as “judges” in Exodus 21:6 and 22:8, 9, and 28.

Psalm 82:1 says:

Verses 6 and 7 of Psalm 82, warn human magistrates that they, too, must be judged:

“I said, `You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.' But you will die like mere men; you will fall like every other ruler.”

This passage is saying that God has appointed men to positions of authority in which they are considered as gods among the people. They are to remember that, even though they are representing God in this world, they are mortal and must eventually give an account to God for how they used that authority.

Now, let us look at what it means when Jesus references Psalm 82:6 in John 10: 25 to 30.

1. The context of the scripture is that Jesus had just claimed to be the Son of God (John 10:25-30).

2. The unbelieving Jews respond to this claim by charging Jesus with blasphemy, since He claimed to be God (verse 33).

3. Jesus then quoted Psalm 82:6, reminding the Jews that the Law refers to mere men—albeit men of authority and prestige—as “gods.”

The point Jesus was making is essentially this:

Why do you charge me with blasphemy based on my use of the title “Son of God”; when your own Scriptures apply the same term to magistrates and judges in general?

In other words, Jesus was asking a rhetorical question: "if those who hold a divinely appointed office can be considered as “gods,” how much more can the One whom God has chosen and sent?" (verses 34-36)?

The Muhammadu Buhari Administration says the hardship being suffered due to scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was regrettable but called for patience in finding lasting solutions to the problem.

Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, who made the appeal on Sunday in a statement by his media aide Horatius Egua, said it was not time to blame the government for fuel scarcity.

“It is not a time to trade blames as is customary in Nigeria. It is, therefore, not a time to query anyone but a time to come together to salvage the plight of the average Nigerian,” Mr Sylva said.

He blamed the scarcity on inspection failure which allowed adulterated fuel into the country, nonetheless, the minister said it was regrettable.

“Let me once again appeal to Nigerians to be patient with the government in finding lasting solutions to the crisis,” Mr Sylva said.

He appreciated the NNPC for showing so much concern to the plight of Nigerians by coming forward with an apology.

“This is unprecedented and shows that we on the government side are not afraid to take responsibility,” he added.

The minister also said the Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority had been out on the streets, fuel stations to ensure that the situation normalised quickly.
