Prayer is very important. We can't do away with it.

The problem is that we have not learnt the balance between faith and works.

We pray all the time and even when we should act, we keep on praying. God ain't gonna do anything unless we move.

After you have prayed, take a step and if need be, pray along the way too until you accomplish your objective.

Yes, u have a strong case. Head to an industrial court and file your case. You may not need the services of a lawyer if you can't afford one. This is a serious breach of contract; forget about the letter they are asking for, they gave you a valid appointment letter stating the conditions of engagement.

For the benefit of others reading:

When you get a new offer, resume immediately! Forget the one month in Lieu nonsense. There is provisions in the labor act for monitizing it. You return one month basic salary to them and move on. Maximum of one week notice is ideal if u are in a position where a comprehensive handover is required.

Another option is to get your annual leave and resume At the new place. Mail them towards the end of the leave and then take two days and return to them to formalise the exit.

I prefer a hard copy letter and keep a signed copy. If u must mail, then copy your own private mail.

Don't let those bastards get away with this. Sue their ars.e for the entire offer they gave u multiplied by 35 yrs u would have worked for them, include legal fees, inconvenience fee and 12% interest rate pending on when the case will be concluded. Industrial court don don't take that long.

Very true.

I laughed hard when I saw your post. Many persons don't understand that banking is a risky business. A lady approached me a while ago. She wanted financing for an LPO. I told her the company that issued the LPO is not among companies and establishments we deal with. Not that the company is bad. I took her to a microfinance Bank to see a friend there. She was asked if she has any properties that is worth 24M? She said ah ah, she will do the supply and return the money na bla bla bla... I told her it doesn't work that way. Anything can happen to the company and they may not be able to pay for your supplied goods, so what happens to the bank (depositors) money
The saving grace for entrepreneurs in America is that they have venture capitalists (firms) that sponsors ideas. That was the saving grace for most of this dot.com organizations in America

True, however, things have changed. We've seen that some who even pledged collaterals back in those years offered non-realizable collateral. For instance, presenting third party collaterals and one village Igwe's palace and all. Those properties if push comes to shove and the bank is set to sell, trading it off becomes an issue.

These days banks are wiser and risk management is requesting for collateral cover of at least 140%. This way the disastrous effect if anything should go wrong would have been watered down a bit.

Thanks for sharing in our sentiment.
So then why does banks charge neck breaking interest rates about 25% when you take a loan from them? This is one major discouragement.
Christianity EtcRe: Living Faith Church To Construct Four Lane Express From Lafenwa To Ayobo by GreatManBee: 5:53pm On Nov 23, 2017
Statsocial:
Poly you had to quote all that just to say this!

I see someone asking that Churches be taxed since they have plenty money. See you've gotten it all wrong, you can't tax churches successfully unless they agree to it. Living Faith UK remits nearly about 1 million pounds to Naija HQ I think every month out of 4 million pounds they receive-even UK govt must be alarmed lol

If you move to try and tax most of these churches they could move HQ to USA where Churches are tax exempted by law. And you would lose all the inflow of Cash coming towards churches like LFC, RCCG, Christ embassy in Nigeria. Do you know what that would do to the Nigerian economy if for example that about 1 million pounds from UK and others like UAE, US and over 60 countries are diverted to another Country or if the church moves her money from Nigerian banks to foreign ones. Some banks would just crash! RCCG has over 700 branches in UK and I am sure some of that money branches Nigeria too and that is why you would discover that the Nigerian recession did not affect these following churches LFC,RCCG, MFM, Deeperlife, Christ embassy because money is coming in different currencies from multiple countries at the same time. Same with Catholic Churches too they make so much money from US branches that it essentially pays the bill.

Just compare the Loyola Jesuit College built by New York Catholic faithfuls in Abuja to Catholic Universities like Veritas then you would understand that the real wealth lies in Western nations.

Living faith 2010 expenditure is three times the 2016 Igr of the entire South East, more than twice that of Ogun(I got this by multiplying LFC's monthly Tithe to RCCG, which is 1.5 billion x 12 x 10) but there is nothing you can do about it.

The financial strength of these Churches aren't from Nigerian Tithes and Offerings but their many branches in UK, Qatar, USA, Netherlands etc.. That is where the real cash comes from. So if you want to tax them you would need to persuade them to pay voluntarily. Don't even get me started with RCCG's wealth. By the way LFC still has over 16,000 employees so mehn these are Nation Churches!
They've been growing intensively internationally!

Though Oyedepo says he is open to taxation as long as Mosques are taxed too. But we Christians shall never agree to it because taxation could easily kill off many Orthodox Churches.

Nigerians should look on the big bright side of this. According to BBC, Ota alone records 1 million dollars in transaction every Sunday due to LFC worshippers thronging Canaanland. What about the Universities? There is much foreign church money in it so in many ways the Churches are developing the Country

Lastly this project has nothing to do with Churches trying to save face from freeze lol. The permission to commence the Lafenwa - Ayobo road was granted in 2014 by Ogun Govt.

Nice.
wristbangle:
I culled this story from an hiring manager in LinkedIn which would inspire most especially the unemployed.

A Candidate didn't do well in the interview. I still HIRED her.

Here's why.

Generally at the end of an interview, the interviewer will ask the interviewee if he or she has any questions.

She asked these 3 questions to HR Manager. It was pitiful to see her struggling to answer them.

1. What are the company's growth plan and strategy for the next 5 years?

2. Why should I work for your organization?

3. What are the weaknesses of your company and how do you see this position contributing to strengthening those weaknesses?

The HR Manager wasn't impressed but as the hiring manager I had the final say. I ended up hiring her and she did rock the boat but she helped the team and me as a leader to grow.

Interviewing numerous candidates over the years has taught me:

*Sometimes the best employees don't make good first impressions.
*Acing an interview and performing on a job are two different things.
*Strong employees intimidate weak managers.

Do you agree?

TV/MoviesRe: 6 Things To Know About TSTV Before Buying by GreatManBee: 6:09pm On Oct 01, 2017
bongolistik:
Here are first hand info on the 6 things to know about TSTV that is lauching today

1. The N5000 for TSTV initial purchase includes a decoder, a dish and a remote control but excludes any installation service charge.

2. TSTV Pay AS You Go pause service i.e. the ability to pause your subscription when not in use would be available to those that would go for the maximum subscription which is the monthly N3,000 package and you would only be able to pause subscription not more than 7 days, thereby allowing you 37 days at most for your monthly subscription. So don’t expect to use your 1 month subscription from January to December in the name of pausing or expect to user 1 day N200 subscription for 1 month.

3. The first time you buy the decoder is the only time you would be able to enjoy up to 20GB of data as bonus, for subsequent full monthly subscription comes with 10GB of data and not 20GB as some of you might be thinking.

4. TSTV has incorporated its subscription service payments into Quickteller the popular E-payment service in the country and just like DSTV, you would also be able to easily pay for your TSTV subscriptions through Quickteller.

5. You would be able to buy extra 1GB data or above from TSTV at the cost of N300 for 1GB

6. TSTV data allocation has nothing to do with watching of TVST channels but just a separate and additional offer to the entire TSTV concept or better still what you commonly regard as Value Added Service (VAS)

Jobs/VacanciesRe: 4 Tips To Help You Turn A Rejection Into A Job Opportunity by GreatManBee: 8:25pm On Sep 21, 2017
PatrickOkunima:
Have you heard this lately in your job search?:

“We have decided to move forward with another candidate.”

“Our search has been put on hold.”

“We think you’re a great fit for our company, just not the right one for this position.”

“Let’s keep in touch…”

I know how frustrating the Job Search can be, and these statements usually take the wind right out of you. Today, we’re going to talk about a few techniques to turn this into something positive — sometimes immediately.

Every Time You Make a Connection in an Interview, Think of It As Building Your Network

All too often, we look at the interview process from a static, linear perspective: submit information, get the interview(s) and either get the job or not. I will grant you that not getting the job is frustrating. But how you handle losing the battle can result in you winning the war.

A huge part of the interview process is establishing rapport — winning hearts and minds. Instead of seeing another door closing when you don’t get the job, look at it as another door opening. You’ve worked hard to make a new connection–professionally, sometimes even personally, bonding with the people in the company where you interviewed.

Shouldn’t you capitalize on it?

Here are some pointers on how to do so:

1. They Know You’re Looking… So Ask for Help Networking

If you’ve just impressed them enough to have multiple interviews, they should give you high marks and gladly refer you — but you have to ask.

2. Keep in Touch

Create a system to reach out to each and every person you talk to throughout your job search. This is no different than a sales campaign. The person who isn’t buying today may be ready to purchase (read: hire) tomorrow.

3. Get to Know the People With Whom You Interview

This personal connection will get your calls, emails and requests answered quicker. Frankly, it’s pretty difficult to get any results networking without making a connection personally.

4. Set Reciprocity in Motion

Find out what you can do for them. Helping someone first is the quickest way to endear yourself to them. This is a super powerful social construct; put it to work for you.

Parting Words

Not getting the offer— particularly after several rounds of interviews — is frustrating, no doubt. But you’ve worked hard to make it this far. In this economy, getting to the first round of interviews is tough enough. So when you do make a connection, treat it like gold. Managed well, these relationships can drive your job search for you.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: 7 Tips To Help You Answer The Interview Question, “tell Me About Yourself” by GreatManBee: 2:24pm On Sep 19, 2017
PatrickOkunima:
When people ask you: “Tell me about yourself,” how often do you see their eyes glaze over before you finish your answer? You can bore an interviewer to tears with an autobiography that drones on, detailing all the places you’ve worked and jobs you’ve held.

This most common question really contains within it two other questions of key importance for you to immediately address: “Why should I care about you?” and “What is your value to me (or my company)?” Don’t get bogged down with rambling recitation of your work history. The best answer is your value statement, commonly thought of today as a personal branding statement.

An effective value statement conveys the kind of person/professional you are, what drives you and why those things matter. It isn’t just what you have done professionally, but your demonstrated passion for doing those things that will propel your conversation forward.

The following are seven key parts of a succinct branding statement:

1. Begin with your name. “I’m John Doe.” Then move on quickly.

2. Identify your current profession or main focus. Relate a major element of what it is that you actually do when you’re at your job in a very simple sentence. This is not the time to talk about your job title, where you work or how long you have been doing whatever it is that you do. For instance, you might say something as simple as: “My main focus as an accountant is counting widgets.”

Paap strongly advocates for the present tense, to talk about who you are today. Statements like “I’ve been widget counting for 32 years,” or “I’m transitioning into accounting and can’t wait to start adding up widgets” are not as relevant or forceful.

If you haven’t had a job doing whatever it is that you are applying for, Paap advises that you quickly do something related to it. Take a course. Volunteer. Do an internship. Even after you’ve been doing something for a short period of time, you can honestly say you are doing it. Leave the details for later. You want to convey that you are the type of person required for the job.

3. Transition. This is the time where you roll out your passion for what you do. Figure out what it is about your role that really excites you. Show you enthusiasm with a “What I love to do is…” sentence. Examples:

“As a widget maker, I love getting all the mini-widgets lined up to make a great big widget.”

“I love working with the people in my team and helping to move our process of widget organizing forward.”

These kinds of statements demonstrate that you are highly motivated and really care about what you do. Evidence of these traits provides assurance to a hiring manager that you not only can do the job, but also that would you would be a great personality fit.

4. Who you help. This is where you demonstrate who benefits from what you do. Paap reminds his audience, “Both Apple computers and Mother Teresa help people … they just help in very different ways.”

Boil it down to something really simple like: “My widgets help cure sick people,” “My widgets help people to be more creative” or “My work helps my team.” All are ways of helping. By demonstrating who benefits from what you do, you begin to effectively convey your value.

5. Target your audience. Strive to understand your audience, and tailor your message to them. Your work might benefit a plant manager, a supply chain supervisor or a CEO, among others, in different ways. Figure out what about your work would be most important to the person you are speaking with, and talk about that. By taking the time to identify his or her issues and concerns, you can plant the image in his or her mind, “This person can help me and my company.”

6. Accomplish a goal. What do you help people to do? Rather than listing a whole series of things, distill it down to a single important thing. Example: “I help my company save money.” A clear simple sentence invites a question to go into more detail and engage in a conversation.

7. Show emotion. Figure out something about your job that gives you a good feeling, and convey it, even if just with a smile. When you show an emotional identity with the work you do, you demonstrate how you fit into a company’s culture.

When you answer the “tell me about you” question with a value statement, you demonstrate your professional qualities, build interest in you as a person and increase the chance of beginning a meaningful dialog. Then, you are well on your way toward ending your interview with success.

Happy hunting!

AgricultureRe: The Complete Guide To Lettuce Farming by GreatManBee: 9:14pm On Sep 08, 2017
With that temperature range, does it mean we cannot grow lettuce in Nigeria?
petsarena:
Introduction

Lettuce is one of the popular vegetables used in preparing salad that is grown all over the world. Its crispy, green/crimson-red leaves are one of the incredible sources of essential nutrients that benefit health. lettuce belong to to the daisy family known as Asteraceae. It's a leafy vegetable that can be consumed raw.

Lettuce farming was first done by the ancient Egyptians who turned it from a weed whose seeds were used to produce oil, into a food plant grown for its succulent leaves and oil-rich seeds. Lettuce spread to the Greeks and Romans, the latter of whom gave it the name lactuca, from which the English lettuce is ultimately derived. By 50 AD, many types were described, and lettuce appeared often in medieval writings, including several herbals

Health Benefits of lettuce

Low Calorie Content and almost no fat.
Lettuce has only 12 calories for 1 shredded cup.
This is why it is so good for weight loss.

High in Fiber and Cellulose
Another reason it is good for weight loss.
This fiber also helps remove bile salts from the body. When the body replaces these salts it breaks down cholesterol to do so. This is why lettuce is also good for your heart!

Heart Healthy
Lettuce’s vitamin C and beta-carotene work together to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. This prevents the build up of plaque.

Omega-3 Fatty acids.
Romaine lettuce has a 2/1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. That’s a great ratio.
The fat content in lettuce is not significant UNLESS you eat a lot but we actually suggest you do.

Complete Protein
Romaine lettuce has 20 % of its calories in protein. Like all whole foods, much of this protein is complete but that amount can be increased by combining with balancing proteins.

Varieties Of Lettuce

These varieties are commonly used in cultivating lettuce:

Romaine or cos lettuce varieties form an upright, elongated head.
Loose-leaf or leaf types have leaves of various shapes loosely arranged around the stem.
Crisphead lettuces form a dense, compact head surrounded by a few looser leaves.
Butterhead (also commonly called Bibb, Boston or Buttercrunch) varieties form very loose heads of tender, sweetly flavored leaves.
Stem lettuce varieties have elongated leaves with a very bitter flavor and are commonly used in Chinese cuisine.

Climatic Requirement For Lettuce Farming

Lettuce does well in cool environment. Temperatures of between 45° F and 65° F are ideal for cultivating lettuce.Lettuce generally do not strive very well in tropic climates, although The leafy types mature quickly and are more suited for warm climates.Lettuce can be grown year round with proper varieties.

Soil Requirements For Lettuce Farming

Lettuce can grow well in a variety of soils, but the best soil to grow lettuce is friable loamy soil with high water retention and good drainage.

The best soil pH for lettuce is between 5.5-6.5. It is important you go for soil test before planting if you are growing in commercial quantity.

PLANTING

Land Preparation

You have prepare the land to get a fine tilt by ploughing about 3-4 times. Ensure you add organic matter after soil test.

Propagation

Lettuce is planted using the seeds.

You can spread the seed very thinly along a row and cover lightly with soil, or sprinkle it over a bed and rake it in. Lettuce seed is very fine and not easy to spread evenly, therefore both methods will likely require you to thin your seedlings later.

Another way you can propagate lettuce is through cutting

Here cuttings from old harvests may be used in the beds of new plantings. Cutting will also promote new shoots to develop and the heads to grow at a faster rate

Seed Rate And Planting Distance

Sow lettuce seeds thinly in rows 1 foot apart, plant seeds ½ inch deep.; for leaf types, thin plants to 2-3 inches apart, then thin again by pulling every other plant when half grown. This will encourage thickly developed plants.

For head, Bibb, and cos types, space rows 18 inches apart, plants 8-10 inches apart. Closer spacing results in smaller heads, which may be preferable for small families. A hectare of land requires about 2-3kg of lettuce seeds for planting. The optimum soil temperature for lettuce is about 20°-22°C

Irrigation in lettuce farming

Uniform moisture is necessary for proper growth of lettuce, so you have to irrigate your farm once in every 4-5 days. Make sure you drain out excess water especially when there is heavy rain.

Manuring And Fertilizing A Lettuce farm

Lettuce responds very well to manure and fertilizer, it is necessary to do this application on time. For better yield you should apply about 60-65kg each of potash and phosphorus and about 8-10 tonnes of farm yard manure per hectare.

Management practices In Lettuce Farming

To encourage crop growth and yield you need to carry out hoeing and weeding practices in your farm.

Mulching is an excellent practice and one that will enable your lettuce to thrive. It helps the soil retain moisture so that less water is lost through evaporation. It also discourages weed growth.

Diseases And Insects

Lettuce is attacked by aphids, armyworms, imported cabbage worm, and loopers.

Damping-off is a serious disease of young seedlings, whereas mildews and sclerotinia are serious on the more mature plants.

Both insects and diseases can be controlled if the correct chemicals are properly applied. Consult your Cooperative Extension agent regarding pest build-up, proper diagnosis, and control.

Harvesting Of Lettuce

Lettuce farming takes about two months to mature depending on the variety, however the first harvesting should be done at about 40- 60 days. Before maturity, you can harvest leaf lettuce by simply removing outer leaves so that the center leaves can continue to grow. Butterhead or romaine types can be harvested by removing the outer leaves, digging up the whole plant or cutting the plant about an inch above the soil surface. A second harvest is often possible this way.

Marketing Of Lettuce

Due to the short shelf life of lettuce it is important that you transport it immediately to your customers immediately after harvest. Before embarking on lettuce farming you need to get buyers for your lettuce to avoid spoiling of the vegetable after harvest due its short shelf life.
