Mthumbie:
Hello Nairalanders
Have seen a whole lot of Samsung Users about how their smartphone suddenly has a green line running through the display.

Most smartphones function normal with the line but it is always obvious that something is wrong with that part of the screen. There are also reports that the line appears all of a sudden without the phone dropping or after receiving an update.

Two of my friends have the same issue and several other people. Why is the brand not saying anythin4g about the issue or try to fix it.

And you'd be surprised that Samsung makes some real quality spare parts for Apple...including iPhone OLED screens! So the comparison with Apple phone is actually wrong. Samsung is better.

I laugh at the foolish Mali Junta.
You have one of the poorest country in Africa.
You have about 3 Jihadist groups and 4 rebel groups holding sway in more than 50% of your country.
Yet, you are sending soldiers to Niger who will be defeated within hours.

Any Malian troop who try to block Ecowas army's advance won't return home.

If need be, Nigeria will go to war. Many of you are just too emotional about this. Do you think folding hands and watching is the best?
How some of you think Russia has right to wage war against Ukraine over the laters decision to join NATO but think Nigeria has no right or reason to wage war against Niger over military coup still baffles me. If ECOWAS consider the coup as having negative influence, either direct or indirect on her democracy, it will have no choice than to engage Niger republic and Nigeria as the head will lead that engagement.
did Russia invade Ukraine when Ukrainian Banderas and NATO terrorist planned coup and overthrow the democratically elected president Viktor Yanukovych

A Malian military source said Islamic State jihadists ambushed army units near the northeastern town of Menaka on Thursday. “We are currently working out the toll… Our troops defended themselves fiercely,” the source said.

A police official confirmed the report, adding that the soldiers “were escorting trucks to Niger”. “The toll is heavy,” a local official told AFP. No details about the trucks were immediately available.

Neighbouring Niger is also battling a jihadist insurgency and is in a standoff with regional neighbours following a coup last week.

WILL ECOWAS INTERVENE?

Junta-ruled Mali and Burkina Faso have backed Niger’s new military leaders, saying an intervention by regional bloc ECOWAS to restore deposed President Mohamed Bazoum would be tantamount to a declaration of war on them.

The jihadist violence in Mali spilt over into Niger and Burkina Faso in 2015, fuelling anger at the civilian governments that ended in military takeovers in all three nations since 2020.

"The predominantly arable land in the combat zone has now been left fallow for 18 months, with the return of weeds and shrubs accelerating under the warm, damp summer conditions," the UK's Ministry of Defense said in its latest daily intelligence update.

It added, "The extra cover helps camouflage Russian defensive positions and makes mine fields harder to clear."

Additionally, British intelligence said that the shrubbery and undergrowth regrowing across the battlefield in south Ukraine "is likely one factor contributing to the generally slow progress of combat in the area."
Though the undergrowth can help give cover for "small stealthy infantry assault," the UK intelligence group said, "the net effect has been to make it harder for either side to make advances."

In June, Ukraine launched its long-awaited counteroffensive to reclaim Russian-occupied territory in the east and south of the country. But Ukraine's attempts have been slow-moving.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said efforts had been slowed down by the strong defenses that Russia managed to achieve as it waited for Ukraine's counteroffensive to begin.

Russia's tough defenses along a 600-mile front line include mazes of extensive trenches, barbed wire, land mines, and anti-tank ditches.

Retired Australian general Mick Ryan recently described the defensive lines that Russia had built in Ukraine as "much more complex and deadly than anything experienced by any military in nearly 80 years."

PoliticsNiger Readys For Battle With ECOWAS As Border With Five Friendly Countries Open by greatness77(op): 11:43am On Aug 02, 2023
Niger's land and air borders with five neighboring countries have been reopened, almost a week after they were closed in a coup that overthrew elected president Mohamed Bazoum, one of the coup plotters announced on national television on Tuesday.

"The land and air borders with Algeria, Burkina Faso, Libya, Mali and Chad are reopened "as of today", he declared.

A first French plane carrying 262 people - including some European nationals - landed at Paris-Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport shortly after 01:30 (23:30 GMT) on Tuesday night, an airport source told AFP

The reopening of borders with five neighboring countries also comes just a few days before the end of the ultimatum to restore constitutional order, demanded on Sunday by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which does not rule out the use of "force" if it is not respected.

Pressure on the military putschists is increasing internationally.

Niger's Western and African partners have widely denounced the coup d'état, and the European Union (EU), France and Germany have suspended aid to a country economically dependent on foreign allies.

Niger, plagued by attacks by groups linked to the Islamic State and al-Qaeda in the west and southeast, is one of the world's poorest countries, despite its uranium resources.

According to Burkina Faso's interim president, Ibrahim Traore, Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to provide weapons free of charge to an African nation during the ongoing tensions in Niger.

In a conversation with Sputnik Africa on Monday, Traore discussed the support received from Russia, emphasising that Putin was extremely generous and offered unrestricted assistance in supplying the necessary weaponry to combat terrorism in the African nation.

"There are no restrictions, they do not refuse licenses, and it is at a good price. Russia is also ready to deliver weapons to us for free," Traore told Sputnik Africa.

Putin's office issued a statement following a meeting with Traore ear;ier this month during the Russia-Africa summit in St.Petersburg, "Bilateral ties between Russia and Burkina Faso have traditionally been friendly. Last year we celebrated the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations. We know that people in Burkina Faso treat Russia with sympathy and interest."

"We are ready to work together to develop trade and economic cooperation. Our trade is not extensive yet, even in terms of Russia-Africa relations, but I believe we will discuss it today: there is room to grow," the statement added.

Traore's remarks come at a time of heightened tensions in neighbouring Niger. The situation was triggered by the overthrow of democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum by soldiers, resulting in General Abdourahmane Tchiani assuming control of the country.

The military coup was met with widespread condemnation from several nations, including the United States and the United Nations Security Council.

Burkina Faso and Mali respond to Niger coup
The military governments of Burkina Faso and Mali also responded to the military takeover in Niger, saying, "The transitional governments of Burkina Faso and Mali express their fraternal solidarity ... to the people of Niger, who have decided with full responsibility to take their destiny in hand and assume the fullness of their sovereignty before history."

"Any military intervention against Niger would be tantamount to a declaration of war against Burkina Faso and Mali," the statement added.

In response to the military coup in Niger, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) made a strong statement, declaring that it would take decisive action, which might involve the use of force, if President Mohamed Bazoum is not reinstated to his position.

The military government in Niger Republic, under the leadership of General Abdourahamane Tchiani, is taking bold steps to consolidate on the Transitional regime and ward off threats of military invasion by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Accordingly, Niger on Sunday suspended export of uranium and gold to France with immediate effect.

Building up to the seven days ultimatum from the ECOWAS leaders to restore ousted President Mohamed Bazoum in Niger, General Tchiani noted that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to declare war against the military regime within one week. General Tchiani , however, sent a strong message to ECOWAS leaders that the military regime is looking forward to delivery of heavy weapons from Russia, which has become an ally of Niger.

General Tchiani, therefore, cautioned those collaborating with ECOWAS or the ousted Niger government, saying they are enemies.

Some stakeholders have also called for caution in the Niger crisis, noting that Guinea, Burkina Fasso, Mali, where military has succeeded in coup, may express solidarity with Niger Republic and support the military on the outbreak of war.

Wagner troops asked permission to visit Poland...': What Belarus' Lukashenko said during meet with Vladimir Putin
23 Jul 2023, 08:31 PM IST

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart met in St. Petersburg on Sunday - nearly after a month after the Wagner mutiny rocked Moscow. According to Alexander Lukashenko, Wagner militia fighters are now assembling en masse in Belarus and had recently asked him “for permission to go on a trip to Warsaw".

“They are asking to go West, ask me for permission... to go on a trip to Warsaw, to Rzeszow. But of course, I am keeping them in central Belarus, like we agreed. We are controlling what is happening (with Wagner). They are in a bad mood," Lukashenko said as Putin smiled during their interaction.

Both leaders have accused Poland of Warsaw of having territorial ambitions on Ukraine and Belarus.

Putin on Friday claimed that Polish authorities were considering seizing parts of western Ukraine, prompting the other country to summon Russia’s ambassador. Lukashenko similarly referenced “the dismemberment of Ukraine and the transfer of lands to Poland" on Sunday. The comments were the latest provocative remarks by Russia and its ally about the NATO member which recently reinforced its border with additional troops.

Members of the Russian Wagner mercenary force arrived in Belarus earlier this month after an aborted rebellion led by Yevgeny Prigozhin. While speculative reports had suggested the Wagner chief was dead or missing he was shown welcoming the fighters to Belarus on Wednesday. In a video Prigozhin could be heard telling his troops that they would take no further part in the war in Ukraine for now. They were however ordered to gather strength for Wagner's operations in Africa while they trained the Belarusian army.

On Thursday, the Belarusian defence ministry said Wagner Group mercenaries have started to train Belarusian special forces at a military range just a few miles from the border with NATO-member Poland.

Foreign AffairsPoland Deploys Troops Ready To Annex Western Ukraine Should Ukraine Loose by greatness77(op): 12:59pm On Jul 23, 2023
ST. PETERSBURG, 23 July (BelTA) – The idea to admit parts of Ukraine into NATO is a smokescreen for the dismemberment of the country, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on 23 July, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted the increased militarization of Poland, the deployment of significant forces to the borders of the Union State. "Naturally, Poland wants something in return. It's clear it will get money, weapons. This is understandable. But now there is a lot of talking ‘to admit Ukraine into NATO in parts'. You also noted this. What's behind it? This is a smokescreen," the president said. “Tear off western Ukraine. Under the guise of admission to NATO, so that the population is ok with that."

"They want to chop off western Ukraine and annex it to Poland. This is a payment to Poland for its active participation in this operation against the Russian army. The Americans support this," the Belarusian leader added.

Russia said Wednesday that cargo ships en route to Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea would be regarded as possibly carrying military cargo, days after scrapping a grain exports deal with Ukraine.

“From 00:00 am Moscow time on 20 July 2023 (2100 GMT), all vessels on the Black Sea sailing to Ukrainian ports will be regarded as potential carriers of military cargo," the defence ministry said in a statement.

Kyiv has said it was prepared to continue grain exports through its southern ports, despite Russia pulling out of the deal that allowed safe passage through the Black Sea.

Ukrainian presidential aide Mykhailo Podolyak told AFP that Kyiv was considering a joint military patrol among Black Sea countries.

A day after the Kremlin warned of “risks" to establishing Black Sea routes without Moscow’s participation, Russia issued the new, more concrete threat on Wednesday.

“The flag states of these vessels will be considered to be party to the Ukrainian conflict on the side of the Kyiv regime," it said.

It also said, “Some areas in northwestern and southeastern parts of the international waters of the Black Sea have been declared temporarily dangerous for passage."

Ships registered with a certain country — their flag state — must follow its regulations.
Meanwhile just yesterday former NATO supreme allied commander James stavridis said NATO will send warships to escort Ukrainian grains to prevent Europe from starving
