Lukay99: I disagree with you with all due respect, why are you quoting the Nigerian laws ? The OP never mentioned paying taxes to the government he/she was only talking about paying the tithe (religious tax) and both Christianity and Islam are against gambling, so if you really want to make your point please bring proof from a religious text that support gambling not Nigerian laws as proof because this topic not about the government but the Church(religion) so if you really want to make your point please bring proof from a religious text that support gambling not Nigerian laws as proof because this topic not about the government but the Church(religion)
Yes that is what I am trying to say,no religious text forbids or supports gambling. It is been frowned at by the society, including me because of its downsides and addictive nature. So I have to bring in legality or its illegality to justify whether paying tithe from it is right or not. The bible is the sole authority when speaking from a christian perspective, but since its not stated expressly that gambling/MMM are wrong, I use the law of the country ie their legality. Which so far both are legal, since no law in the country forbids them yet. I am not arguing for or against gambling,I hate it and I don't indulge in it. |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Role Of Churches In Solving Nigeria's Economic Challenges by Greatzeus(m): 12:16pm On Oct 30, 2016 |
Walphem: Today's Nigeria economy is really becoming uninteresting and a bit sickening, this has made me ponder so much and left me totally confused. I have asked myself what are the roles of today's believers? Joseph was a man that God used to plan for the raining days of a country and he saved an entire country and his family from Famine. Jesus Christ fed 5000 women, and performed lot of miracles. With these and many more I am totally convinced that the church is fully Empowered to solve the present predicament Nigeria is in.
Please don't get me wrong, I appreciate the efforts of various churches in organizing leadership and empowerment seminars eg Daystar Leadership conference, Convent Centre's -The Platform, RCCG Conventions, Winners' Shiloh, TREM's Kingdom Life Conference etc. However, what the country need from the church at this point is way beyond that. All through the remaining period of the year, October, November, Decemeber churches will be filled up with Church goers praying to close the year 2016 strongly and start the year 2017 in a much better way! And believe me the church gives so much hope to those with faith and believes! After this Hope, Faith and Believe what more? Empowerment seminars and Leadership trainings? Is that enough? No that isn't enough! We need churches that can use its might to solve particular problem(s) of the country.
I remember few years ago Daystar came up with a project to ensure Nigerians enjoy constant power supply, but we never heard about the campaign anymore. We have also heard of Pastors vying for political positions to assist in solving the national problems, what a fantastic step, however the Bible clearly identify to us not to " yoke with unbelievers".
Then how do I want the church to be a game changer? It is simple, why can't we have one or 2 churches going into mainstream agriculture as part of their missionary work, most of them raise funds for missionary works outside the country with minimal or no ROI(mind you I know it is not meant for profit) , but it is long overdue for the big churches to start venturing in solving real life problems and not "educational" problems alone.
It is worthy to note that great professionals are "church goers" and they can give their services to churches on Pro bono, with this churches can have an industry of their choice for the purpose of solving problems.
The time has come to not only buy Private jets (in dollars and putting pressure on the Forex) importing church equipment in Billions of Naira etc
We can truly show the world "how missionary work can be done" not just by opening schools alone and the graduate of the schools not even having any paid employment.
I have a strong feeling that the church has the right solution to Nigeria's problems.
Caveat: I am just a concerned Nigerian and a Christian, thread isn't for insults but to discuss how we can get Nigeria out of this mess Good write up,God bless you. But if churches should do as you said and invest in Agriculture, it is these same Nigerians and mostly Christians that will say they are business men not true men of God. Some will even want the Agricultural products to be distributed free, the way they are clamouring for church schools to be free. |

Zikachat: if i should ask u is betting not gambling coz dis have made some ppl kill them self OK people have misunderstood me,I am not arguing for or against gambling, betting,MMM etc,I answered the question in the affirmative because unlike prostitution, stealing, kidnappings, rituals etc that are vices frowned at by both religion and the constitution, which obviously its wrong to pay tithe from them,Betting and MMM were not expressly stated as bad by the bible,so I was left with whether they are legal or illegal in the country. Since both are legal,I gave my answer in the affirmative. |

Innomach: What about runs girls, prostitutes, ogogoro sellers that doesn't kill anyone through their mean of income earnings? The bible condemns prostitution and alcohol,so its clear the income from them shouldn't be tithed. But betting and MMM were not condemned in the bible,so the only criteria to judge them will be whether they are legal or illegal in the country. So far they are legal |

Seun: Why must you participate in shady businesses in the first place? If you're worried that they are not acceptable to God, don't participate in them! Sir we are talking about Betting and MMM, none of them is shady,to start betting biz,you register a company under C.A.M.A 1990,you are are issued a license by C.A.C ,which is a government agency. MMM is a helping community where people give help and receive help from each other,no law in Nigeria forbids it so,it is legal. With all due respect, you are wrong calling them shady, its an insult to the founders and millions of participants across the country. |

baridamhoney: A friend of mine thinks it is not right for him to pay tithe with his proceeds on Nairabet and MMM nigeria. I advised him to pay tithe on MMM money but he argued that the monies are not clean and tithe is supposed to be paid on clean money. Now I don't know how else to convince him. I wil like your opinion on this please. Your friend said MMM Money is not clean? How? Drug money, prostitution money, ritual, stolen money are not clean, obviously they are vices frowned at by both religion and constitution. How is MMM money not clean? Are they cheating people,is there someone suffering in Nigeria because of MMM? Are they selling drugs or sexually abusing anybody? Tell your friend that greatzeus said he/ she is a hypocrite, he/ she fears God so much and said MMM money is not clean, meaning all MMM participants are doing dirty biz right? Yet he / she could fornicate without blinking an eye,he could lie, keep malice, and hate other tribes who he/ she has never met right? Hypocrite. |

baridamhoney: Ok are u saying that if gay marriage was in our constitution, it is acceptable to God? I am talking of source of income, you brought gay, which has to do with sexual relationship. Christianity forbids polygamy but our constitution allows it,so as I christian I can't encourage polygamy since against the scripture. But here I was talking about source of income. I have never played bet,it has lots of downsides. Yet I think its not wrong paying tithe from these two sources, since they are legal. Illegality is the only thing you can use to discredit them, or did your bible say anything about betting or MMM ? If it does post the reference here. |

Pay tithe from any income gotten legally. These two are operating in Nigeria because, they are not doing anything against the law of the country,if they were the government would not have allowed them to operate. So if they are legal source of income, you should, if they are not, then don't. |

Voters survey is done on net, anybody can just click from the comfort of his or her room especially non eligible underage citizens, also many eligible voters might not have the time to partake or might just ignore it.It is not a criteria to write off any candidate. On election day when voters will have to leave their comfort zone then you will see.Clinton has the support of the mainstream media, celebrities, and blacks who are known for low turn out during elections. Trump has the support of core Americans and cowboys who are ready to take the pain to vote. Assuming its possible for all eligible voters to vote,Clinton will win no doubt. But not all eligible voters will vote,so the race is still open. |

Abuloma80: The person with NL name as dareylink and phone number 08141629384 is a scammer. He advertises DATA for sell, collects money (airtime) but never sends the data. He has been on this for long. Sad enough he uses Nairaland platform for the adverts, almost every day he advertises availability of data of all the GSM lines. Even today there is his advert on the thread of "EFCC Investigates Ex-Bauchi Governor Isa Yuguda's Mansion In Bauchi" first page.
After reading one of his advert, on 23rd October 2016, I phoned him to inquire more about the data. After his explanations I sent him airtime credit, today is the 5th day but he did not send me the data. The worst is he stopped picking my calls.
I searched his name on Nairaland and saw many people with same complains. He has been on the "trade" for long, but sad enough l learnt about him after l became a victim. I advise others to be careful of the heartless scammer, fraudster, thief etc. Nairaland administrators too should look into such and take action by not allowing such adverts. Where their names are traced they should be banned for ever. They have no business relating with innocent victims on the forum. Now start with dareylink with number 08141629384. Why won't you be scammed when you are greedy. Can't you just dial *131# for Mtn,*141# for Airtel,*171# for glo to buy data? But no,you saw an advert of N1000 for 10gb,you rushed to pay now you are crying fowl.98% of those who do get scammed are greedy themselves. I do see those ridiculous data adverts here,I can't believe people will fall for it |
