My brothers redmi 5 got stolen about 3 years ago. We tracked it for a while before it went offline. Turns out it had been successfully flashed, as he later found it with his classmate.

You don't understand,Find my device is a feature on all Redmi phones,you have to activate it on your phone. Did your brother open a MI account? Did he activate find my device on his Redmi? The answer is no.
Like I said earlier a Redmi phone whose find my device is activated, cannot be used as a phone unless the person that locked it input his MI account ID and password OR the phone is dismantled.

Xiaomi devices have " Find my Device" function. It helps you locate the phone when missing or stolen,it also let you lock the phone, which makes it impossible to be used again unless your Xiaomi account ID is imputed or the phone is dismantled.
If you use a Redmi phone
1. Go-to settings> MI account> to register
2. Input your info like email,phone number and password.
3. You will be giving MI ID
4. Go to MI account> Devices> you will see your phone listed > Find device> On.

Which information? How will anyone who stole any phone for that matter,access your information when your phone is locked? A locked android phone cannot be access with any technology without flashing,when a phone is flashed,all it's data are erased, including locked password,them it can be accessed.

My current charger came with my phone I bought in March 2020,used it till last week when I lost the phone. It was Redmi note 8.

So I got tired of someone opening bumbum in my nose everyday and decided to get my own apartment.

I got a few connects and got my dream apartment in ikoyi from a guys friend relocating to Ontario Canada. I was given a room ensuite in a flat. I Moved in finally last night as soon as I got my refund back from my previous landlord. I slept like a baby for the first time in months.

I'm now in my private space. No more intrusion of my privacy.

I can now breathe some sweet fresh air.

Please, where are major local markets in ikoyi ooo...I'm new here. All I see are supermarts, restaurants and boutiques.

Suggest where I can get local food stuffs and items.

This has nothing to do with Redmi as a phone,I would have thought you're talking about play store auto update,since it's not play store auto update,then it can only be an external factor,your sister downloaded a malware.
I use Redmi 10c, its performance is out of this world.
My previous phone was also Redmi,it was stolen and I have locked it using my Xiaomi account and ID. It can never be used ever except for my phone number displayed on its screen.
Taste the lord and see that He is good,I have tasted Redmi phones,I will never in all good conscience go back to those rubbish phones.
