Shame! Shame!! Shame!!!

How can you declare victory over civilians with sticks? How can there be victory when there was never a battle? Where is the victory and where is your conscience?
PoliticsRe: IPOB Gets Fund In Paris From Holland, Hungary, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Turkey by greenguy: 9:23am On Sep 23, 2017
Enough of this government taking Nigerians for granted. As far as I know IPOB isn't a threat in any way to Nigeria instead the government is a bigger threat to Nigerians - time will tell.

I watched a recent interview of Nnamdi Kanu, and was surprised at his real demand. It is never about Biafra, the struggle is actually about addressing the inequalities among Nigerian people, in our constitution where the North is supreme.

All through his interview he didn't talk about referendum but spoke of restructuring. What is the Nigerian government actually afraid of? Why all these clandestine moves and news to brainwash Nigerians at all cost, like man wey mess wey no want make him neighbour perceive am?

Why are they so afraid of IPOB even more than the world dreaded Boko Haram that has taken over 20,000 lives and destroyed properties worth billions of dollars?

What are they so afraid of? Is any Nigerian not a northerner a slave? Is it a crime to ask to be treated equally in ones country? Are we non northerners really slaves?
PoliticsRe: FG To Reveal Account Details Of IPOB Sponsors by greenguy: 8:48am On Sep 23, 2017
This government is sick. Finding sponsors has suddenly become an headache and that's all we hear in the news everyday.

What are we getting electricity, when will fuel become affordable, when will Nigerians having access to good housing, when will the youths get jobs?

This government is sick. IPOB suddenly became a priority because it is not rising from the north, enough of the colonial masters treatment by the north, as if Nigeria belongs to the them. Even a fool knows that attending to his leaking roof is more important than using a bucket to gather the leak. Why has the government given deaf hears to the cause of IPOB, restructuring? The same thing every part of the country is asking for right now - it's just a matter of time before another group like IPOB arise.

What is Nigerian government really afraid of? Why is the North afraid of restructuring? Does Nigeria really belongs to them?

IPOB isn't the devil, Nigerian government is!

FamilyRe: Today's Experience Changed My View On Domestic Violence by greenguy: 6:43pm On Sep 17, 2017
A good lesson Mr. Poster. Experience they say is the best teacher. It is easy for listeners to judge the man and say 'real men don't lay their hands on women'.

Men are humans too with different level of tolerance to provocations. I once had a neighbour with similar traits who genuinely enjoyed humiliating her husband and publicly reminded him of how poor and miserable he is, how incapable he is as a man and her plans to abandon him for a 'real man'. She'd throw things at the man and pour water at him. She also bedded almost all the young men in the compound at the time. What a gentle man the man was. I remember the man reacting to her provocation one day with a divine slap and she fainted on the spot.

She eventually left her two kids for the man and left to her lover's. She died of HIV some years later.

I have learnt that some people are devils incarnate.

EducationRe: Civil Servants Sending Their Children To Private Universities Are Corrupt – ASUU by greenguy: 9:54am On Aug 23, 2017
A lot of people here have made comments without having information about the civil service and its pay packages, and some have made quick comments only in defense of their parents/sponsors.

Generalisation is wrong, but this is so true except for a handful of civil servants. He who wears the shoe knows where it pinches.

A lot of civil servants have other sources fully dependent on their civil employment, some with sources hidden from the knowledge of their employer, and some with sources established from illegal gains from their employment - all is corruption.
PoliticsSOS - NBC Wants To Censor Everything, Even Our Freedom! by greenguy(op): 11:25am On Aug 18, 2017
The rate at which the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission is censoring words these days especially in the visual media is becoming increasingly annoying, oppressive and a show of total disregard for human rights and freedom of expression.

I learnt only inappropriate and offensive words are to be censored e.g:

A_s
A_shole
Bi_ch
B_ops
C_rk
Di_k
F_ggot
F_ck
Ni_ga
P_rn ETC

Do things work differently in Nigeria - A heavily religious and multi-cultural society? How can our television obscure and silent words as God, Allah, Chukwu, Olorun, Jesus, Ogun, Songo, Ayelala, Amadioha e'tal. These are a culture to us, a way of life. These are symbols upon which this nation was built, they are entrenched in our constitution.

Mallam Is’haq Modibo Kawu must have a personal agenda, which is not of the interest of Nigeria that he was appointed to serve. Now he wants to censor phone-in programs...SMH. If the commission is looking for work to do and want to be relevant, they should start monitoring the content of our children's programmes and cartoons as they are now inundated with obscenity, nudity and homosexuality.

This is a free country, this is Nigeria and the government owe it to its people to respect human rights.

Marriage is a lovely institution. It is sweet.

After you have sought the face of God in choosing who to settle with, I'd advise you thus:

1. Love your spouse. Love her so much regardless of what people say about pampering a lover.

2. Trust. You need plenty of trust to be happy in marriage. Trust even in the midst of suspicion. Just trust because you chose her. Lack of it will ruin everything you dreamed of.

3. Patience. Bleeding patience. This is the most important of all. I leave you to imagine the power of this great virtue.

....all the very best.

First, you have to calm down and not work yourself up with these thoughts in your head right now.

You asked for advise from matured minds; my dear, the mature thing to do right now is to give him space. I don't mean malice or avoiding him, but make the whole thing look trivial and carry on with your wifely duties. Don't bring up the issue right now, and never nag about betrayal or what you're going through in your present condition.

Worry less, this is what your condition requires. When the time to talk comes, you'd know, but remember to address it calmly.

Above all, pray about it all.

Your marriage is still intact, ignore the images the devil is painting of it.

The truth be told, both our present and past governments have been shying away from crux of this matter, either for their selfish reasons or they lack will and character to lead.

Buhari and Osinbanjo have no right to say Nigeria's unity is nonnegotiable. That is reckless especially at a time of upheavals and resistance as we currently have.

There should be a referendum, this is a country and not a zoo. The people must come together to negotiate and agree on terms, what is to be acceptable, how the country is to governed, how resources are to be shared and how to promote the growth of the many parts.

This is the only way forward, especially for a multicultural and multi religious entity as Nigeria.

C'mon, Osibanjo should know better!

PropertiesLagos Ranked World’s Third Unaffordable City For Renters by greenguy(op): 2:45pm On Jul 03, 2017
By Bertram Nwannekanma

A new report has ranked Lagos, the nation’s commercial nerve centre as the third least of world cities that are highly unaffordable for renters.

The report released by RENTCafé, a property search website puts Lagos rent at $355 (N129, 575) per month while the household income is $625 (N228, 125), making the city the third behind Manhattan, New york city with 59 per cent and Mexico City with 60 percent. It also identified the three least cities as vibrant urban hubs with thriving or emerging economies but unaffordable for renters

The ranking is coming on heels of the global professional services firm, Price Water Corporation (Pwc) Opportunity report that listed Lagos at 28 position of 30 cities.

In its latest Cities of Opportunity report, PwC has also set up what is basically the shortlist of the world’s best cities to work and live in.

The top-30 ranking is the result of an in-depth analysis of the most prosperous global business, finance and culture capitals, which looks at 10 different indicators—including but not limited to infrastructure, intellectual capital, sustainability and ease of doing business, all of them essential for a great environment.

With the list, the researchers looked at how much money do people earn in these cities and whether these salaries are enough to afford a rental apartment.

The implication of the recent report is renters in Mexico City, Manhattan and Lagos face severe rent burden, meaning that the rent takes up more than half of a household’s income each month (60 per cent, 59per cent and 57per cent respectively).

In other words, in an average family with two earners, one of them works only to pay the rent, and it’s still not enough.

Lagos residents cough out an astounding 57per cent of their income on rent, while in Mexico City, the median household income barely hits the $14,500 mark and yearly rent amounts to $8,640 on avg.

That puts Mexico City first among the world’s most unaffordable cities for renters with a 60per cent rent burden. Not even London, which PwC declared the world’s best city to live and work in escapes the affordability woes.

The 40per cent rent-to-income ratio places UK’s largest city among the moderately rent-burdened global powerhouses of the world.

At the other end of the spectrum, Kuala Lumpur emerges as the best choice for renters in search of more relaxed lifestyles. Rent barely takes 20per cent of the median household income in Malaysia’s capital city.

In the study, the researchers looked at the current rents in the top global financial centres, but not restricted to cities with outstanding activity in the financial sector, and bringing into the equation the affordability of local housing prices too.

According to the Communications Specialist for RENTCafé, Amalia Otet, researchers used the list of the world’s top cities of opportunity as published in the latest issue of their Cities of Opportunity report and study the overall average rents or their US Dollar-equivalents adjusted for inflation as necessary.

In the report, London slide back 21 places when ranked by rental affordability, with the seven out of the top 10 most affordable cities of opportunity catapulted straight from the lower third of the initial ranking.

“London is famously expensive. And so is LA. But is this just an outside perception or the sad reality? Our research team here at RENTCafé looked at rental prices in the world’s 30 best cities to live in and compared them with the local median incomes to see just hom (un)affordable these fine urban hotspots are”, Otet noted.

According to the study, Kuala Lumpur, Moscow and Johannesburg ranked as the most affordable cities of opportunity from the 20th, 22nd and 24th places of the original ranking, respectively.

Also two South American markets on the 4th and 5th places, Bogotá and Rio de Janeiro moved the farthest from their original positions—22 places up from 26th and 27th.

Speaking on the ranking, an, urban development expert, Lookman Oshodi said the ranking is not unexpected considering spiraling inflation that the country has witnessed in the past few years.

He noted that in the past two years, however, most property owners have maintained rent freeze.

Despite the freeze on the real rent cost, property owners and renters alike, Oshodi said have been dealing with costs ranging from security, energy, water and road among other housing related services.

“The energy crisis has further pushed housing related cost to astronomical level as residents need to fuel and repair their power systems,” he added.

PoliticsNigeria’s Coal Deposits Can Sustain Additional 4,300MW by greenguy(op): 3:29pm On May 10, 2017
BUSINESSDAY

As Nigerians continue to grope in darkness, experts say that diversifying the country’s energy mix to include coal-to-power projects can add a further 4,300MW to its electricity power generation for 20 years, with its proven coal deposits estimated at about 2.8 billion metric tons.

“At the calorific value of coal in the Anambra basin (Enugu, Anambra, Benue and Kogi), 3.2 million tonnes of coal is required to generate 1,000MW per year. A typical coal fired power plant is designed to last for a minimum of 20 years. This means that 2.8 billion metric tonnes can sustain 4,375 MW”, said Bath Nnaji, a professor and former Minister of Power and Chairman, Geometric Power Limited.

According to Nnaji, a-1,000MW coal-fired power plant costs about $1.7 million to $2 million to set up and it takes approximately three years to set up.

“Nigeria should definitely make use of coal as a source of fuel. Nigeria needs enough base load power – that is power that is industrial and stable. The main sources of such power are large hydros, natural gas and coal. There is a need to have a fuel mix, in order to have stable and reliable power supply in Nigeria’, said Nnaji.

“If you look at the history of power supply in Nigeria, the question is not whether Nigeria should introduce coal-to-power into its energy mix, but rather the question is, should Nigeria turn back to coal because coal was the primary fuel the country used to generate electricity many years ago”, said Omorodion Uwaifo, a veteran engineer and power expert.

Uwaifo said that Nigeria is in dire need of power supply that is stable and constant, which makes a case for a large coal-fired power plant in the grid. But despite the electric power conundrum, some experts say the country should tread with caution in its deployment of coal-fired power plants.

“Of course, it is an option to add coal to Nigeria’s energy mix, as the country has high quality coal deposits but the question is to what extent and at what price”, said Christine K, Director Nigeria Office, Heinrich Böll Foundation.

According to Christine K, “what you need to calculate the cost of coal power is the external cost of producing it. These costs are not usually calculated into the cost of a coal power project in Nigeria. The real cost of a coal power project should include economic cost, environment cost, social cost and human rights cost.

If you want to invest in an infrastructure for a coal power project, you are locking it down for the next 30 years – that is 30 years of carbon emissions in Nigeria. Nigeria has signed to the Paris agreement. The country, by its own commitment should be looking for low carbon development options. Gas is one of them”, she added.

However, Uwaifo feels that all the fears expressed by the Western countries who discourage Nigeria from deploying coal-fired power plants are unwarranted.

“There are latest technologies for firing coal that are not as bad as it used to be. As we speak, the US generates about 30 percent of its power from coal – that is more than what Nigeria can consume in the next 50 years, at the current rate. Apart from the US, other countries use coal to satisfy a great percentage of their energy needs; South Africa – 93 percent, Poland – 87 percent, China – 79 percent, Australia – 78 percent amongst others” Uwaifo said.

On the impediments to the power sector in Nigeria, Nnaji said the government must follow through on the 2010 Power Reform Roadmap; implement cost reflective tariff, show respect for sanctity of agreements and ensure discipline in enforcing agreements between government and power and power related asset owners.

“Government should regionalise the grid operation while maintaining a national grid, and also encourage embedded power in ring-fenced clusters to ensure more efficient management and delivery”, Nnaji added.
