NANS condemns lingering ASUU strike Says ASUU's demands are Unrealistic and Unimplimentable on october 15, 2013 at 5:03 pm in news By AbdulSalam Muhammad KANO – The National Association of Nigerian Students has disowned the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. NANS made their position known at a press briefing in Kano where they stated that certain demands by ASUU were “unrealistic and un -implementable” The National President of the Union, Yinka Gbadebo at the briefing appealed to University lecturers to call off their nearly 4 months old strike and resume negotiations with the Federal Government in the general interest of Nigeria’s educational sectors. Yinka stressed “in the history of ASUU strike, no government has ever responded positively the way President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has done and I believe strongly this gesture should be reciprocated for the sake of harmony. Mr. Gbadebo who was flanked by representatives of student leaders from over 50 Nigerian universities accused the leadership of ASUU of evading a meeting with the leadership of the student’s union that would have been an “interface meeting to chat the way forward” “In as much as we sympathise with ASUU over the predicament that forced the industrial action, millions of Nigerian students are simply tired of staying at home and hence appeal to call it off and resume negotiations immediately”. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/nans-condemns-lingering-ASUU-strike/ |
PapaFejiro: Really who is Olamide? except you say nairaland is only for lagosians. is he known in Benin, PH or warri? Oya answer. He's into Yoruba Hip Hop - more like taking after Da'grin. Even the Da'grin sef was only mostly popular among Yoruba fans. As you drive past Ijebu Ode and Ore he was not known. I think Olamide should do more collaboration with the likes of 2face, D'banj, P SQUARE, Timaya, Don Jazzy, Akon, Flavour, MI, Inyanya etc that way he will be known nationwide |
I think we should just ignore this greedy man. He is being given too much attention. Afenifere, the authentic leaders of the Yoruba Race are already pursuing the confab with vigour. |
Sincere 9gerian: The question now is how are the states under the control of Tinubu (APC controlled states) spending their own SURE-P funds?Bros, only FG seems to be giving account of how it's own share of the SURE - P funds is spend. Can't our media beam their searchlight on states and local governments too? |

On amnesty: Tinubu’s myopia and beclouded diatribe on this matter reveals the narrow mindedness of a local politician totally insensitive to the genuine sensibilities of other sub-nationalities within the polity. - Okupe But where has this Okupe been oh? I really missed him. Welcome back sir! |
atlwireles: The richest woman in Nigeria paid almost nothing for her oil wells, where millions of dollars flows her waytoday. TY sold his shares in an oil deal and walked off with almost $600M. Tompolo had a company providing security for shell and nnpc pipelines between 2011 and 2012. How many times were those pipelines vandalized, during that period. He employed over 2000 young men in delta, bayelsa and rivers states. If the company involved was a yoruba/hausa owner most of the noise makers will not say a word. Please leave Tompolo alone and worry about your own zone. He is not paid with cocoa or ground nut dollars. I hope he makes $30B and not $326M. Bad belle and long throat for any man's wealth is a disease. Go get your own.My brother, as if the money is dished out to Tompolo for free. Is he not working for it? So many immature brains on nairaland. A labourer deserves his wages. Tompolo's company is about the biggest employer of labour in Niger Delta region and he is executing a spelt out contract with FG. Where else should he raise money to pay thousands of workers working with him execute the contract? Na wao |
googlepikin: and what can Microsoft do for lagos state. na today we dey see signing of paper? RUBBISH. . . but really, the motive of some of these trips is to take pictures to entertain Nigerians for political reasons, nothing more. They themselves know that nothing will come out of it. APC governors like such showmanship and drama a lot. By the way, why is there no story to support these pictures? What did he go there to do? How do we know his mission there? |
gramci: Op should stop misleading people, APC's Festus Keyamo won the election as reported by OsundefenderHahahahahahahahahahahahaha, . . . Osun Defender must be sick in the head |
Eeyaa, sorry ehn, APC. Despite importing Tom Ikimi, Oshiomole and Okorocha to help out in the campaign, Delta people still rejected them at the polls. APC has a history of winning on social media and some Lagos media but PDP keeps winning at the ballot. |
saintneo: Liyel Imoke is an Igboman. You dug up this thread from archives to ignite tribal war among old Eastern region, abi? Their unity is a threat to you, abi? This recent tactics of your paymasters will fail flat. Those guys are now more united than you can imagine. Sorry, your tricks can't tear them apart. |
Qatar, Emirates or Gulf will be very good. |

gregg2: The first four comments I have read here shows that some nairalanders do not reason first before spewing out vermin. Why display your ignorance on a public forum that the whole world can have access to? Must you comment? Even on an international diplomatic matter that is obviously beyond your capacity. You don't even know the background of which the President is coming from.Let me take some of you round the world of international media on this issue: Yahoo news African Union gives ICC ultimatum over Kenyatta trial Addis Ababa (AFP) - African nations on Saturday demanded the International Criminal Court defer the crimes against humanity trials of Kenya's leadership, as the country's president furiously attacked the tribunal as imperialist and racist. A special summit of the African Union insisted that sitting heads of state should be exempt from appearing before the Hague-based court, and the bloc warned it would support a no-show at the ICC by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta if the demand was not answered. "What the summit decided is that President Kenyatta should not appear until the request we have made is actually answered," Ethiopian Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters. "This elected leader should lead his country." Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have been charged with crimes against humanity for allegedly masterminding a vicious campaign of ethnic violence that left at least 1,100 dead and more than 600,000 homeless after disputed 2007 elections. Now allies and elected this year on a platform of national reconciliation, they argue the case is violating Kenyan sovereignty and hampering their running of the country. Kenyatta's trial is due to start in The Hague on November 12, and if he fails to turn up the ICC could issue an arrest warrant -- which would expose Kenya to diplomatic isolation. Kenyatta signalled that relations with the tribunal had hit a new low point, saying the institution has been "reduced into a painfully farcical pantomime, a travesty that adds insult to the injury of victims". "It stopped being the home of justice the day it became the toy of declining imperial powers," the president told his fellow African heads of state, accusing the ICC of "bias and race-hunting". The ICC, set up in 2002 as the world's first permanent court to try genocide and war crimes, has so far issued indictments linked to conflicts in eight nations, all of them in Africa, and diplomats with the 54-member AU said there was a sentiment that the court was turning a blind eye to crimes committed in other parts of the world. "It is the fact that this court performs on the cue of European and American governments against the sovereignty of African states and peoples that should outrage us," Kenyatta said, urging the AU to unite in the face of a "divide and rule" policy. "Africa is not a third-rate territory of second-class peoples. We are not a project, or experiment of outsiders," he added. Threat of mass pull-out African countries account for 34 of the 122 parties to have ratified the ICC's founding treaty, and an African withdrawal from the court could seriously damage the institution. The Ethiopian foreign minister did not say if a mass pull-out was discussed at the summit, but said it could be an option in the future if the AU's requests were not met. "The option is open, it's on the table," he told reporters. The AU bloc, however, has been divided on the issue -- with countries like Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia and Rwanda taking a tough line, but other nations seemingly reluctant to get embroiled in a diplomatic confrontation. AU executive council head Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, a former anti-apartheid activist, acknowledged that African nations should "do more to strengthen the capacity of our national and continental judicial systems" -- seen as a concession to several prominent African figures who have defended the court. Prior to the summit, South African anti-apartheid icon and Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu had lashed out at African "leaders seeking to skirt the court are effectively looking for a licence to kill, maim and oppress their own people." Former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, from Ghana, also said a pull-out would leave Africa wearing a "badge of shame". The summit leaves a question mark over whether Kenyatta may choose to follow the path of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who has refused to stand trial at the ICC for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide in Sudan's Darfur conflict and who is now the subject of an arrest warrant. Following last month's Islamist militant attack on Nairobi's Westgate shopping mall, Kenyatta has already demanded he be allowed to appear by video-link so he can deal with national security issues, and this week his lawyers alleged abuse of process and called for a halt in proceedings. http://news.yahoo.com/african-leaders-open-summit-ties-war-crimes-court-091925793.html |

lagosph: Ok let's do this debate once for all.See, the 10MW Lagos plant for Alausa Secretariat is not even to be classified among Power Plants in Nigeria because they are more like giant diesel generators also fired by compressed gas. It is the type most companies in Nigeria are building with ease. Companies like PZ, Guinness, Flour Mills, Glaxo, Nestlé etc. It is not such a big deal. But because of the loudmouth nature of APC, they have to roll out drums to celebrate. |
This Gbawe, This Gbawe, This Gbawe, This Gbawe, This Gbawe Why are you like this sef? On another thread, you had to dig up internet archives all in attempt to defend the thieving duo of Fashola and Tinubu for an obviously dubious scam of just 10MW Plant being built at 3.2 billion naira. Those rogues you are sticking your neck to defend will even be laughing at your ignorance of what transpired. It's annoying. Stop trying to justify such huge difference. See, those FG power plants that are a little above 200million per MW also included a staff quarters and schools since some are a distance away from the cities. I doubt that Fashola also built a staff quarters for his 10MW plant that is meant to power just Alausa secretariat. |
Goddex: PDP founding Chairman Solomon Lar did not have a house of his own in Abuja - newsPDP are learners when it comes to inflation of contracts, kickbacks and propaganda. APC are like the mouse that will eat your feet at night while cooling you off with cool breath (propaganda) so you don't feel the pains. |
1) The question should have been about the number of KM of roads the two states have asphalted. And forget the media hype, Oshiomole can never beat Peter Obi on this. 2) How many new industries has Oshiomole attracted to Edo since he became governor? Just Google to see Peter Obi's industrialisation drive in Anambra state By the way, what is Osun Defender turning into? Those gimmicks to expand greedy Tinubu's extortionist empire to South East will not work! |
