blink182: lol, don't make me laugh. Where have you heard that bamboo scaffolding failed. Let me describe it like this, bamboo is like the egg shell-side impact will destroy it but vertical impact can do nothing. If you still don't understand then get a raw egg, lock your two palms together like you want to open cherry fruit, put the egg in there with vertical points facing the pressure points from your palm, now try crushing that egg.
OK! Thank God it's friday! that will be my assignment this weekend. LOL!

mufutau55: Do they have RV in Nigeria or it will be exported from here abroad?
I have not seen any in Nigeria.

Hajji Mufutau
LOL! Even toothpick is imported in Nigeria!
The only things not imported are those Spyder fine houses!

Anyway, I saw a beautiful RV in Nigeria once but I suppose that will be very expensive as it was the up-market luxurious bus type.
Spyder team need something smaller, say 10 people as I understand he employs the locals as well and 'imports' only his top guys to other building sites.
You can actually convert a good Hiace bus into an RV with your welder and carpenter and some architectural skills with space management. Make it multi-functional as in: bed and storage at night and transportation means after the job!
But don't forget the mobile-toilets so that neighbours wouldn't complain of people 'doing it' in the nearby bush. LOL!

Scaffolding versus Bamboo:

You can reuse them like forever and you have reliability interms of strength and accuracy.
If someone like Segcy.Moor who is doing alot of projects can buy Scaffold set and 'rent' them

I'm just saying because whenever I see people on very tall bamboo 'my body dey shiver'
NYSC › Re: A Corper Receives Chieftaincy Title In Zamfara by gtrust: 2:21pm On Jun 20, 2013
There are a few things missing:

- How did he do it (method)
- did he do fund-raisinghuh
- was it his personal fundhuh

- Did other corpers assist re labour or intellect (architecture, surveyor, building engineers, etc)

- What did this man study in school himselfhuh

Why all these questionshuh
Because it will serve us no good if someone else cannot replicate this great achievement elsewhere if they have access to all the above.

It will encourage any youth-corper with same or similar 'resources' to do atleast the same or much more.

spyder880: Can you tell me a little more about the RV? I am about to put up a wooden batcher for my boys.
RVs are mobile homes!
You can even convert a bus into an RV if you like.
You can drive it from place to place and at short notice.
It's cheaper in Nijja because you don't need the heater.

Jamesqu: ^^^^@segcy.moore....unlike most of you I am not a builder, talk less of professional one...please don't misconstrue my statement as "enemy of progress" labeling....while it is obvious to the EVERYONE that Brabus messed up, the approach of seeking his qualification, researching his background as a computer science graduate, looking for precedence to refer to about his "atrocities" in the past could have been better handled as elders and professional people in this field.

Ask yourself this question, "is spyder 880 not aware of these old cases?"....in my own opinion, which is still completely mine, you could have conferred with him offline, like I suspect syder 880 did after the case of stolen phones...that to me would be more helpful to Brabus, to the most important person in this whole issue (jaydacorsair) and to those of us that are onlookers....I wouldn't be able to differentiate a 6" from 9" if you hit me on the head with it....

Like someone wrote, after all said and done, jaydacorsair still didn't fire the guy....despite gbogbo advise he got....why do you think that is?

I sincerely apologize if my comment(s) have made you look like enemy of progress but you could have found a more professional way to be helpful.

Re: Building A Luxury Block Of Flats: Day-to-day Updates (with pictures) by brabus(m): 8:23pm On Aug 29, 2012

Aventures: I am sure i am going to be attacked by some people for be blunt whenever i see things not comforming to engineering standard. The builder/engineer in charge of this project is taking a great chance which is absolutely not acceptable this day because of incesant collapse now are partly due to chances some people took years back. Now my observation as an a trained structural engineer on this project is that the engineer/builder/contractor as the case may be is using a wall load bearing method in building a storey building, the implication in this case is the building load is majorly borne by the block wall, meanwhile the blocks we have this days do not pass the strenght test of blocks we can use for such a method. another implication in this case is that the columns are directly protuding into the slab this can result in what we called a punching shear. Though this method is cheaper but to reduce the chances, the builder here should have introduce some beams at some critical point and also engage well qualified iron bender and fixers cos waht i saw is far from a good job. I am not really out to criticise but please let learnt hw to enlightened our clients, if there budget can build bungalow let them build it and have rst of mind rather than trying to save cost at the expense of structural stability and safety.

I just had to search for this to make sure I was not seeing double.
Is it not the same Brabus who was the contractorhuh
Why does this man continue to make money on background of making people sufferhuh

I stand to be corrected.

Declaration of interest: NONE. I am just a former victim of this sub-contracting in the Nigerian way!

diordaves: Its nice to see progress at last with this project. Time is a direct correlation to inflation: The more time you waste; the more inflation will eat into your project and wipe-out any efficiency savings. Well done to Client and contractor.

Spyder880 if we adopt your strategy of if not present on site nothing will be done; you will only buttress the fact(?) or belief that the diaspora cannot build at home and also not trusting but must be present to supervise things just like you. And again you will never grow as a business beyond the one man do all; no holiday; no break kind of business. If you will never leave a supervisor in any of your site; it means you are currently struggling to engage capable hands and it is only a matter of time before you will fall victim of the "Brabus" syndrome. How? Because the more jobs you get; the more the pressure will be on you to delegate responsibilities. You must find creative ways to engage capable hands; trust them and mentor them in the safe and confident disposition to execute project even when you are holidaying in North Pole.

Brabus did nothing wrong in leaving Lagos to PH. We all need to move away from being local champions and expand our businesses beyond our comfort zone. Brabus did nothing wrong going into the building trade IF he is a Computer Graduate. I also build and sell for third parties; self and family and run a company into building but a logistics expert not a Structural Engineer. Dangote is into haulage business but not a Mechanic. Such people are called Resource Managers. And this is where Brabus is deficient big time. Resource Management which includes human resource.

All previously known problems Brabus has encountered on NL has a lot to do with the delegation of responsibilities to less capable hands and not until one can overcome the challenge of personnel recruitment and engagement and the smart collaboration with third party contractors; one's business will continue to struggle.

Jaydacorsair going forward I can only add that in any project that's done phase by phase like contruction; its always a sound advice to strongly hesitate to dole out a sizable sum upfront. I can infer you may also be a fellow diaspora and you've violated the first law of building from diaspora: Pay AS YOU GO. The hiccups you experienced its because your project was awash with funds from the word go! Problem will always expand to the degree of funds allocated. If you hadn't allocated such wholesome amount in the first instance; Brabus wouldn't have had the economic power to delegate unwisely. Think about it. Once again well done.
How can you say Brabus did nothing wronghuh
How can you equate Dangote to Brabushuh

Dangote: check all his departments and see the caliber of qualified staff in ALL departments.
The man does NOT gamble with HIS OWN money!
He even increased the yardstick by looking for graduates to drive trucks and promises atlot of incentives, righthuh

Brabus left Lagos to PH and he is gambling with somebody's hard-earned money and wasting his time.
Did he inform the owner that he will be subcontractinghuh
Did he hire a qualified contractorhuh
Was the job executed according to AGREED CONTRACThuh

My biggest interest will be to see what sort of financial compensation Brabus is offering the owner.

In a civilised society Brabus and supporters will be begging and NOT bragging and 'rebranding'
This is fraud, righthuh

spyder880: Welcome Mr Brabus.

Welldone Mr Jaydacorsair, everything will be alright in the end.

I have had this type of experience before. I lost a lot of money in that project. I will blame myself for all the problems in that town, and I chose never to keep supervisors on site and operate elsewhere. I wish I will have time to recount the whole story this night, it is long and very interesting.

That is why I have been delaying my movement to Lagos. I can only work in a site if I will stay there in person. Nigeria is a strong place to be.

Wish to to tell the story this night.
Well said Spyder880!

You cannot take a project and subcontract it and expect 'everything to be fine'!
Overseas, there has to be a building insurance in place before anyone start anything.
The insurance is valid ONLY with registered/certified builders.

If you subcontract, you lose alot of money on that project and your insurance will go up on subsequent projects.
Usually, they take a project, finish it or suspend it at a stage before moving site and everything is transparent.

Properties › Re: What's The Best Way To Build A House From Diapora? by gtrust: 7:08pm On Jun 13, 2013
InvertedHammer: Building a house is one project you do not want to delegate to anyone.
It is your house, it is your money. Treat it as such.

If you cannot leave your job to check out your site, then you shouldn't be building.
But if you do, take whatever u get.

Foundation, decking, roofing need your presence.
Plastering, windows, doors, etc. you can use trusted allies as supervisors after you contract them out.

Information is key. You don't know much about buildings? Google it, use youtube, etc. you will learn a lot.
That's the power of technology.

Keep open eyes!
Interesting topic and very interesting write-up here!

My understanding is that some people cannot leave their jobs even for one day because they will lose alot of money!
Some people live so far away from Nigeria that cost of traveling home is so so much!
Some people are happy to pay a little extra (not 60%) and I heard some say 15% more than 'standard' to get their jobs done!

Wahala here is: what is the standardhuh
why will someone just decide to buy inferior materialshuh
Is this because some people fear neither God nor manhuh

Anyway, I have been in all these wahala situations and they have NOT stopped me from continuing to love my Nigeria and I will continue to invest there anytime God blesses me with money (earned from hard-work!)

My current method is:
- to trust a professional, (DEGREE, I will see your projects, you MUST still be working NOW!)
- pay adequate fees,
- monitor via emails and this has been enough besides, I don't have time. ONLY the professional is incharge and no friends, no families. Anybody you see on-site is working on that site under the professional.
I know a man who was 'monitoring' his wife and she was doing stuff right infront of his nose but he couldn't see.lol
- build within 6months (avoids grammar of Oga price increased!)

So far so good, I thank God.

I leave the rest to God!
If the 'professional' f.cks up, I move on. God DEY!

dayokanu: In the US remuneration wise Medicine easily doubles or triples petroleum engineering.

I don't think you need any internship to practice medicine.

Pass your Usmle steps get some observerships and externship experience get your application in. And you might Just be lucky and match.

Your residency years you would be making like 40-50k a yr

After residency you can go up to 200k a year which a petroleum engineer with 15yrs experience might not make.

If you now top it fellowship you can be making $400k a yr.

Depending on your specialisation

Traveling most times are to offshore rigs which are very boring
Don't forget to mention that Doctors have to pay tax, insurance and other expenses on this money before someone reading your post go collapse!
Student loan and pay-back to people who sustained you during internship etc or looking after your wife/husband who has had to borrow....

Good you read my post!

BioEngineering is better than what you were talking about because here you build on your current foundation (medicine).
Besides: it depends on where you look:
Prosthetic medicine in Europe is totally different from America. (maybe non-existent in Nigeria).
Try Germany, I know a guy there smiling to the bank!

Besides: Medicine has evolved so much so that you can specialize in so many things particularly abroad.

You sound like you got the money so why not invest it in your program? You will enjoy it if you have money.
If you did 'pathology' or 'internship' once then you can pass that way again provided you're not stopping there.
