Parolee: Good point you are raising.
See the criminal minded foreigners have taken advantage of the SAn crime situation. It is a well known fact all over that crime is a big problem in SA. People fly for many kilometers to kill their wives here using SAns to assist them. Our laws are too lenient when it comes to dealing with hardcore criminals. As SAn - we have been complaining all along that hey the constitution seems to be more protective of the perpetrators of crime than the victims. SAns have raised this issue many times with the government. But, sadly so nothing drastic has happened to tighten the laws. So criminals (both foreign and local) are fully aware of this and are taking advantage of the loopholes. That is why we are in this dilemma.
So, the citizenry got tired and something had to give. I do not condone the attacks / killings though. Therein lies the major problem then, taking up arms and hurting the innocent ones in the guise that they are foreigners will only make SA an enemy to other countries and as a popular saying goes " ...no man can exist as an Island." |

Parolee: What jobs are they taking - cutting peoples hair, running brothels, selling sweets and cigarettes by the roadside? That is not important. We do not care about this.
Here is the problem: your people came here and created no go areas for SAns in their own land with their bully behavior and criminal dealings. Hillbrow Jhb, Sunnyside Pta, Point Road Dbn and other places have been completely taken over by ruthless foreign criminals to such a point that these areas you have to avoid them completely.....better still if it were SAns carrying on like that - now its foreigners? Would you accept that in your own country, huh? Most of your people are behaving badly and SAns have had it with this! Not anymore.
I remember the other day in Dec 2013 early on a Sunday morning in the Joburg Station area - a group of Nigerians fighting amongst themselves, going up and down the street - it was ugly...it was scary. If people can come all the way from so far off and begin to do that among themselves - what about you as a SAn?
Most of your people here behave badly and we have had it about that. Instead of you guys accepting this and talking to them to tone down whatever you choose to lambaste us - just talk to your people down here to tone it down and just behave, please. Calm down bro lets argue this objectively, lets leave emotions aside. Forget if they are Nigerians or Martians, cause every country got their own demons. I want to believe that there are laws in SA? why not use that and deal with the foreign criminals as you say or have the Foreigners taken over your Judiciary as well? |

MduZA: this thing of foreigners taking our jobs is neither here nor there...the two major causes of xenophobia in SA are 1.foreigners without proper documentation
2.foreigners committing crimes I would have thought that the laws of the land would be implemented there rather than inflicting any form of harm to a fellow human, but instead you would agree with me and so will every other person in the world that it was even the law abiding persons that lost their lives or properties. |

Parolee: On the bolded, I will tell you again stop smoking whatever it is that you are smoking - you are loosing your sanity!
What great exploits you Nigerians have done? Huh, tell me? With all that oil money the country makes in just one day - yet - you still stand in the que for 7 hours with a 25litre petrol container and still get nothing.....that for an oil producing country on OPEC....you must be ashmed of your self.
What great exploits you Nigerians have done? Huh, what new invention to help humanity? Nothing. You can not tell me about Innoson motors blah blah blah....there is nothing Nigerian about an internal combustion engine and SUVs....nothing....that was just re-modelling and rebranding of already existing methods, technologies etc........so really shut it.
In fact, you have done us all a great deal of disservice as the black people of Africa....when did your country start being in black hands? If there was anything peculiar about you guys - then Nigeria was supposed to be the shining diamond of Africa.....so you are a loud mouth for nothing.
At least in our case.....after 20years of blackman rule - there are indications that although things are heavy but the country is moving forward - though not at the pace we would like it to - but still we are moving forward. Infrastructure being expanded everywhere....it's just good to be a part of the positive things that happen here.
So shut it!!! Well lets look at that last paragraph again, from what I can decipher you seem to agree that SA is moving forward right? Now the recent attacks on foreigners in SA was based on allegations that foreigners have taken all the jobs in SA, so tell me please how is driving this same people that have contributed in moving your beloved country forward is the right thing to do? one would think the best thing to do is learn as much as possible from the foreigners or better still export your skills/expertise to another country after all no man is an Island or what do you think? |

In popular culture, certain countries are stereotypically associated with certain products — beer in Germany, carpets in Turkey, electronics in Japan. But those things aren't what people are really searching for. Earlier this month, the cost-estimating website Fixr.com put together a map of the world with the most-Googled for object in each country, using the autocomplete formula of "How much does * cost in [x country]." While the results are far from scientific — since Google autocomplete results vary based on the searcher's history, the time of search, and the place of search — they do say at least a little bit about how countries are perceived. Some of the fascinating (and troubling) results: • People want to know how much a MIG aircraft costs in Russia • People want to know how much a prostitute costs in Brazil • People want to know how much rhinoplasty costs in South Korea • In our own Nigeria Wedding topics were googled the most. Career › Diamond Bank Sacks over 1000 Staffs by guardian09(op): 6:28pm On Apr 29, 2015 |
The economic downturn in the country, coupled with the difficult regulatory climate, seems to be taking its toll on the financial sector as one of the top financial institutions, Diamond Banks Plc has sacked over 1,000 workers.
P.M.NEWS Business findings revealed that the latest disengagement by the bank had to do with the need to realign its operations for a tougher 2015, especially as the monetary policy environment continues to get tighter.
Some of the regulatory measures introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria aimed at protecting the economy, according to findings, have started affecting the banks’ profitability.
It was learnt that apart from job cuts, the bank is also planning to reduce the number of new branches to be opened this year. A source within the bank told our correspondent that major projects and sponsorship programmes for third-party companies, which may not readily add to the bottom line, are also due to be axed by the bank.
According to the source, the affected workers cut across all branches of the bank.
The fortunes of Diamond Bank has recently not been on the positive side as its 2015 first-quarter pre-tax profit fell 9.5 per cent to 8.36 billion naira ($42 million) from a year earlier. The bank did not disclose why profit for the period end-March fell but said in a statement that revenue climbed 5.8 per cent during the period to 40.48 billion naira.
The banks profit after tax also fell by 10.72 per cent to N25.48 billion in 2014, compared with N28.54 billion in 2013 as regulatory induced costs continue to suppress profit.
Its operating expenses also increased by 19.89 per cent to N92.86 billion in 2014 from N77.40 billion in 2013. Cost-to-income ratio, which measures the ability of a bank in cutting costs while boosting profit, reduced to 72.30 per cent in 2014 as against 66.57 per cent in 2013.
The banks corporate communications unit could not immediately be reached for comment on the development. P.M.NEWS Business however learnt that more financial institutions are planning to cut their staff strength in the following months, while others are already outsourcing a number of job functions, a development that has seen some of them transfer a significant number of their employees to third-party companies.
One of the banks, Skye Bank Plc, earlier in the year announced that it had transferred its tellers, drivers, security personnel and other support staff members to three outsourcing firms, a move that will affect hundreds of the bank’s workers.
The decision, led to the disengagement of the affected employees from the bank and their subsequent transfer to third-party firms. Skye Bank, however, said in a statement that the move was part of the initiatives to strengthen all cadres of its workforce.
According to the statement, the outsourcing companies appointed to take over the employees are Optimum Continental Services, Strategic Outsourcing Limited and Integrated Corporate Services Limited.
The bank gave the assurance that the outsourcing firms would engage the affected employees under the same terms and conditions as they were employed by the financial institution.
Global rating agency, Fitch Ratings, and other international and local research firms had late last year predicted that Nigerian banks would witness a fall in profitability this year.
On November 25, 2014, the CBN’s Monetary Policy Committee devalued the naira by eight per cent; raised Monetary Policy Rate from 12 to 13 per cent; and also increased the private sector Cash Reserve Requirement from 15 to 20 per cent. The development, which led to the immediate withdrawal of about N500bn from the banking system, was said to have affected the banks adversely.
Also, in a bid to halt the sliding naira, the CBN had in December stopped the banks from keeping any of their funds in foreign currencies. It also said dollars bought from it must be utilised within 48 hours, adding that the actions were aimed at stopping the banks from speculating on the exchange rate.
Experts said the recent regulatory measures would have major negative effects on the banks this year, adding that they were already feeling the effects of previous actions by the CBN, especially the increase in public sector CRR, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria’s levy increase, and the gradual removal of certain bank charges.
Fitch, in a report released on October 8, 2014, said actions aimed at protecting the economy and the banking system by the CBN would make the profits of the Deposit Money Banks for this year drop.
While recalling that some of the previous regulatory headwinds had led to weaker profitability and “stemmed credit growth” in the first half of 2014, the rating agency said Nigerian banks’ assets growth and earnings would experience further fall over the next 18 months. The ideal would be 100% transparency, which I am in support of but being that we all have different tolerant levels to events it is paramount that one takes into consideration what his/her partner can tolerate. In other words what Jack or Jill can tolerate may not be what John or Janet can take. |

GeneralShepherd: Hello guys, please I lost my gtb atm card yesterday.
Is there a way of requesting a new one from UK? This is the only way I recieve money from Nigeria. You might have to call GTBank's customer care for that. A friend lost his some months ago they(GTBank) offered to send it to him at a cost of N7,800 or so and he was to sign some documents absolving the bank of any loss suffered by the customer via the said atm card if it gets lost in transit and someone has access to it . Just speak with a customer care agent you will be informed about what you need to do. Pele. |

Family › Mother Who Gave Birth To Her Own Brother And Sister (photo) by guardian09(op): 6:04am On Apr 09, 2015 |
Took me a while to wrap this round my head. Use the image below to understand it better. One woman — Ellen Bown — gave birth to all three of the children in the picture. But only Maddy is her ‘official’ daughter. When it comes to Alex and Ruth, Ellen acted as a surrogate for her own mother, Jenny. Ellen used her own eggs, fertilised with her stepfather Tony’s sperm. So, biologically, twins Alex and Ruth are teenager Maddy’s half-brother and half-sister. But legally — having been adopted by Ellen’s mother Jenny and stepfather Tony a week after their birth — they are now her aunt and uncle. Which brings with it another mind-boggling twist. To the twins, Ellen Bown is both their biological mother and their legal half-sister. Meanwhile, Jenny and Tony are their biological grandparents but legal parents. To say it’s an unconventional and complicated set-up would be an understatement — but it certainly isn’t unique.
...Such stories have — understandably — sparked debate. Some have labelled these very modern interpretations of the family unethical, and have questioned the robustness of our surrogacy and fertility laws. But Ellen Bown and her mother Jenny Dias insist there is nothing perturbing about their situation . . . well, apart from the perplexing issue of what on earth they all call each other.
We have always tried to stick to the adoptive relationships,’ says Jenny, 65, a retired saleswoman and receptionist. ‘So the twins call me and Tony “Mummy” and “Daddy”, as you’d expect. It’s only different with Ellen. ‘We got around that by them calling her “Tummy Mummy”. So I’m Mummy, she’s Tummy Mummy. That worked while the twins were little — now they just call her “Ellen”. She is a second mum to them.’ Ellen, 46, a trainee midwife, nods. ‘We have been open with all of them from the beginning about where they came from. Maddy was five when the twins were born. She knew that I was growing something in my tummy for Granny and Grandad and that, when they were born, they were going to live with them.’ Alex — bubbly, polite and dressed in a smart blue suit and school shoes — chimes in, unprompted: ‘People ask me all the time at school, but it’s just labels. We’re a normal family.’ ‘Normal’ may well be a stretch for some people, but it’s clear from a few minutes in the extended family’s company that they are a closely knit, happy unit.
