I am now convinced more than ever before that Nigerian pastors prefer their followers to remain ignorant. |

Last year or so, the Swiss government returned this SAME amount of money as Abacha's loot, but it was shared to cronies and proxies in the name of "poorest of the poor". Did they remember that we have a railway to develop?! Nigeria is very wasteful, we shouldn't be borrowing to build infrastructure in the first place. |

Scout60: what of if the railways system fail before we repay the loan, what then do you think the Chinese will take over?
do you know that it is always difficult for Nigeria to repay back loans, what of if the money enter another pocket? First of all, the money is paid directly to the contractors. It is not the kind of loan anyone can embezzle. Your second question; what if the rail system fail before we can repay the loan. In this type of project the contractor doesn't just leave when the project is completed, they are usually available as per agreement to fix any technical or unforseen issues which may come up after completion until Nigerians can take over and fix it themselves. |

Rossikki: Absolute rubbish.
I don't know why you people are scared of China. It's all this US propaganda on Youtube and Twitter.
You weren't afraid when the whites with their IMF and World Bank were sending you rip-off loans at 30% interest rate with nothing to show for it. China is actually BUILDING STUFF we can see, with their loans, from rail to roads to airports, power plants, dams etc, and THEY are the ones that are a ''threat'' to us?
This is what US propaganda does. It can make you stupid. God bless you. The level of the falsehood and misinformation is alarming. Who hands over $5 billion without any agreement on what happens if you default. |

AroleOduduwa2: This forum is full unapologetic zombies, they claim people are comfortable with being slaves to the west through IMF loans, but fail to tell us how IMF and the world bank has canceled our loans in the past, how they have given us debt reliefs countless times without taken over our country like the Chinese took over Zambia’s National Assets. This is funny, this is one of the reasons Nigeria is poor. The world bank and the IMF got their money back many times over leaving us with less money to develop and build necessary infrastructure. Not only that, do you know how much Nigeria parted with to settle the "debt forgiveness" you are talking about. On top of that Nigeria lost more than 30 billion to the world Bank and the IMF with nothing to show for it. No trains, no electricity, few standard roads and barely functional airports. The Chinese cannot take the railway back to china even if they eventually take it over. There are foreign companies already operating in Nigeria today that take their profit back to their home countries. What do you have to say about this? |

bigwig071: “The Chinese are asking us to show them evidence that we will pay back, and we have said we will waive our immunity clause so that if we don’t pay back, they will take back their assets.”na dis part sweet me pass Why would Nigeria default on a loan? Are the reps worried we are not going to pay back and why? Nigeria is not a proper country at all. This is one of the reasons why I believe the country should be rebuilt from the ground up, starting with strong institutions that cannot be manipulated by any single person. |

abbey621: So much stupidity in this country. One person cannot sell a country, you can however leverage your assets to secure loans. It is done with IMF loans, private loans such as the one with China is not unique. Sovereignity in the contract refers to the country(Nigeria) not able to use it's status as a sovereign nation to get out of paying its debts. It simply means if the government refuses to pay, China will come for their money! God bless you jare. We just want the Chinese to hand over 5 billion to us without any guarantee they will get their money back. This agreement will only bother me if Nigerians doesn't steal more than the loan amount on a regular basis. |

Abacha alone stole more than what we are trying to borrow from the Chinese. This probe is probably motivated by politics and not the interests of Nigerians. The Nigerian national assembly is probably the most expensive in the world. Each senator in Nigeria is paid more than the US president per annum. |
