My start date is September 6th and I’m meant to travel on the 31st of July. This Saturday. Please I need an urgent response. Because I’m at the airport now and the immigration guys said they have no idea about the early arrival rule.

Which airline are you going with? Some airline will allow you go early while some will want you to provide enrollment letter before boarding.

I will be glad if someone can advice me on this. I intend applying for a masters program in eHealth, September, 2020 intake and in a few weeks the admission process starts. I am married with no kids and certainly will be taking my wife along when the time comes but I am concerned about the best approach to take. I read there are two ways one can go about this:

1. You can apply to get the study permit first, then later your spouse can apply to come join you.

2. You can do joint application, which means both can go at the same time.

In my situation, the only possible way for me is to do a joint application as I can't leave without my wife.

So for those that have gone through this process, what is the best option you advice especially as it concerns applicants coming from Nigeria who usually have a high visa application scrutiny and high denial rates?

Also I will like to ask if it is possible that my co-sponsor (father) can also act as a sponsor for my spouse since I will be doing a joint application?

Please I will be glad to get suggestions and feedback on these issues I raised.

From my vantage point, the best is for you to apply together. It’s faster, alittle cheaper and less stressful and most times comes with an approval but it’s very demanding.

I read your profile above and it’s fantastic that there is no accompanying children which makes it alittle better.

My advice; Make sure you have full tuition and 1st year living expenses for you and your wife in you account. (14k cad) + full tuition.

Make sure your sponsor is a direct family member, your dad like you said is fantastic. Make him write a committing Sponsorship letter and Afidavit.

Make sure you submit your business papers and try to hype your business in your SOP.

Make sure you add your personal asset to your application.

Make sure you let the VO know the provision you made on who will handle your business on your behalf before you Come back.

Once you are granted, they will definitely grant your wife as well. Western world take marriage or family seriously and they don’t want to put separation because they know the consequences of the law they created themselves.

Finally, like sillysassysally will say, you need to sit down and write a badging SOP if truly you really mean your wife should be with you. I love your courage and I pray it works out well.

In your wife’s application, she doesn’t have much to say. Her SOA is an option in the application, marriage certificate, photos and her SOP stating why she’s following you and the importance of she being with you but don’t ever mention that you guys haven’t given birth in the application. That’s all she needs. It doesn’t matter if she’s working or not.

But if you can’t do the above, submit your application, once you get an approval then apply for her but it’s a 50 50 stuff.

What did I do?

That’s the power of SOP, I made sure I submitted all they requested for and explain myself as regards what I achieved during the visit, the school I went to and the professors I spoke with. What will Nigeria gain in it and what will bu company benefit from the academic experience.

The whole application took 6weeks.

Did you applied for the study permit within Canada or outside?

Outside Canada.

But if you have a valid TRV (visit or tourist) and you are reapplying with a valid medical result made in Nigeria and Biometrics valid for 10years and it’s an online application, then you have nothing to worry about.

You can apply from anywhere in the world provided you have access to your documents and even bank statements can now be downloaded and signed online by your bank.

Even background checks will be conducted and everything will be fine.

A friend of my here in Canada invited his Mom for his graduation ceremony, The mum was in Uk for a short visit because of that she did her biometric in Uk, Visa was approved and passport request, submitted and Stamped in Uk.

If you are in Canada on Visitor Status and you have applied for Study Permit if passport request showed while in Canada you can submit it in Canada.

Another option is when the Visa is Approved you can pick the study permit up in the Land borders.


My wife has change from visitor to Open work permit in Canada land border, I changed my study permit to PGWP in the land border without SOP much documents to convince the Land Border Officers.

Na my case i dey talk oh.

Inasmuch as all said is very possible with exemption of the bolded words, it’s clearly written on the website that you should go back home to apply.

Nevertheless, the White pple are the only being that will create a problem and still tell you how to solve it.

They created the laws and still give you how not to follow it.

But all cases are treated differently like you said.

Information got to me and I was told that it’s on VFS website that if you have been exempted from taking biometrics with the current one lasting the next 10years with the new development starting since mid 2018 with CIC and VFS since September or November 2018, you will have to pay around 14k for passport transmission after PPT request for approval. (Online route)

But newly applicants are exempted from it with the receipt of the newly taken biometrics fees.

Pls confirm this news on VFS website.

Although you can apply from Nigeria inside Canada ‘if’ you have a valid medical result done in Nigeria, Biometrics running for 10years and haven’t stayed or currently staying in Canada for Less than 6months. So everything will be fine but bear in mind that background check will be done.

I understand how you feel, the best is for you to go back to Nigeria.

I totally disagree with you bro. Its is very possible for them to call sponsor after passport request. Infact I know two cases where sponsors were called and bank also contacted applicants about their banking documents. All this is happening after passport has been requested and submitted. I spoke to the VFS manager in Abuja and he said that over 60% of applicants are using fake documents, so CIC is verifying every document submitted especially banking statements. And when the sponsor doesn't bear the same surname as applicant or when there is no proper documentation showing a relationship between applicant and sponsor. E.g Mr Olalekan sponsoring Mr Chukwudi. At times bankers are paid to print bank statements of someone with millions without the persons notice, that's why they call. He also pointed out that CIC check social media accounts (LinkedIn and Facebook). I have a case of an applicant where his documentation showed he was part of directors of a company while his LinkedIn showed he was just a staff. CIC have smartened up. They are getting every single thing now. Even after passport request, they still review. At point of entry they can still cancel your visa and send you back. Please if you plan to change DLI, do that after you have gotten to Canada or notify them 30days before your intended date of travel via your mycic account. I am speaking from experiences I have had. To a very large extent you are you a right but I am just curious like you said and what your statement means is that background check is always on till they request for and after request for passport??

The way some agents or relative treat applicants during visa process as if they are thin God is part of my assumptions to what contributed to some reactions.

So many pple have stories to tell but then, we should be careful of the pressure anybody want to give you during the tension period of waiting for approvals.

I will only advice people to tidy up their applications, do the needful, avoid agent at all cost, ask questions on this forum and do more research like I just learnt something from you too.

[Sometimes it is unnecessary to make hasty generalizations. Please be informed that the embassy places calls to sponsors every now and then. I feel this is done when they need clarification on issues. This usually happens after they have spoken to the bank.
It is not strange for a sponsor to end with "feel free to contact me if you need any further document".
At this juncture, when a lot of applicants are waiting on a decision to be made on their application, the least we can do is brush issues aside, we should take every issue seriously and learn from it. It wouldn't cost us anything to give our sponsors a hint to expect a call at anytime. To your uncle, the fact he lied doesn't mean it doesn't occur. Thanks.

A friend of mine got his passport request on the 13th June after medicals passed. He submitted his passport at vfs on the same day. He is being sponsored by his uncle, this afternoon he got a call from his uncle who said he just got off the phone with someone who called from the Canadian embassy, and they called to confirm if he gave his nephew the bank statement he applied with and if he's gonna sponsor him through his studies. His uncle said it was a straight forward conversation and he confirmed everything.

I find It odd though, this is happening after passport request, I thought I should put it out here because this might be the cause of the delay for the other guys waiting

As sweet and shocking as this sound, am pleased to tell you that it’s not true.

The sponsor is telling a lie. Based on my personal findings and pls don’t quote me.

I maybe wrong but Embassy will never call sponsor. If it’s contacting banks, that’s possible but sponsor it’s not true.

In 2016, I applied using my uncle as sponsor, he was scared maybe I will give his bank statement to someone else to use because he’s a Lawyer. so he kept telling me that the bank called him.
unfortunately it was a refusal, the following yr I used my dad as sponsor but I didn’t tell him. He came back again and said the bank called him. I just smiled.

So my brother, Embassy will not call after passport request. Even if your school revoke admission today, passport request can come the next day because decision has already been made.

You can get a smart relative or friend to run the parole for you. I know of some few people in obodo-yinbo that succesfully did it. Also, maybe someone here, who have a connect in any State CID might come to your rescue.

The bolded was my problem because a lawyer wanted to collect 30k which is a little over 100box and I know I once saw on this thread that it is as low as 3k depending on bargaining power. The same reason I didn’t do it during my applications.

And again, pls does it expire?

Yes it is possible. What you need to do is to go to the police department in the country where you are and give your finger prints. They ll give you a form that you with your finger prints and you can courier it to Nigeria and have someone help you take to alagbon police station

Hello e-family, Please I need the advise of the GURU's in the house. I did paper application for SOWP on the 15th of Feb'19. I got a medical request on the 13th of May. Successfully sent the medical e-copy back to them that same day since I did up-front medical. Got Biometric validation mail on the 23rd of May. I was able to link my application online and saw that Medical was past on the 15th of May. I have not heard from them since then and my status still reads we are processing your application.
My worry now is..how long will it take to hear from them since they have my passport.
We had already planned a trip this summer to the UK for a family event on the 24th of July and we have valid visa.
Today makes the application 17weeks.
Would it be advisable to write or just wait and believe that we will get our passport back before that date.

Similar to your case is my wife as well, reason I frequent so much here. But based on my findings, your approval will come before the 23 of June. That’s a month but not with standing, compose a mail and send it to them stating that you got medical request, and it’s been updated to pass but you didn’t hear from them for a while now and it’s pass Normal processing time which you anticipate or expect to get and approval since it’s been updated to pass.

Just try to put something up, it’s not necessary it must come out the way I said it.

Depending on the current status of your application, ghost update means they are working on your application and most times ghost messages always come out positive.

It’s either medical request is coming or passport request is on the way.

Based on my extensive research about ghost update, it always come out positive. There could be exemptions but I pray not in your case.

Like I said earlier on,

Travel History will disappear when you apply again. It’s not something to bother on.

You can travel if it’s important to you or you have things to do in those countries you mentioned but don’t travel just to disvirgin your passport for Canada TRV.

Whatever the outcome of your notes, I believe you need to be constructive in your SOP. Psychology to ACCA is not bad if you can thoroughly convince the VO.

I am from that line of academics that’s what brought my attention to your question.

Am always free most especially on sundays that’s why I won’t be able to help with your SOP for now.

When your note comes out, we never can tell I may be able to help with the SOP.

But I know there are lots of good pple over here who can help you out even if am not available.

It’s either you submit a family application together which is a lot easier and better but it’s always a tasking application because of the complexity of what you will have to submit which is demanding.

You can as well apply immediately she gets her visa or after she starts school. But always good after the first semester.

On the average, 3 to 6weeks or less than. Sometimes it could go higher anyway but check there website for processing time.
