justwise:

So i need to be in South African to be able to comment on this thread? Nonsense.
Listen, i wasn't born yesterday, providing your adress doesn't make u real or what u are doing legal, u can stay in there and engage in illegal activities.
Can i just repeat it again that u got no business processing visa for anybody, your job as immigration practitioner is not to process or sort documents for an applicant, pple like u get Nigerians in trouble with immigration issues, providing them are fake documents.
Don't even attempt to slowpoke me with all that silly comments of getting a work permit for an illegal immigrant in South Africa, it goes to show how dubious u are.

Excuse me, Immigration practitioner or lawyer can obtain visas for his/her client. There is nothing bad in that, in as much as he/she is legit and deliver the promises.

Application with fake documents will be denied while the other side will be granted, so don't get it twisted.

Travel / Spain Sees Sharp Drop In Migrants From Africa by hadexman(m): 7:57am On Jan 17, 2010
Spain says the number of migrants coming to the country by sea from Africa fell by almost half in 2009.

Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba said 7,285 such migrants arrived in Spain last year, compared with 13,425 in 2008.

The number reaching the Canary Islands was the lowest in a decade, he said.

Mr Rubalcaba attributed the change to security measures, repatriations and co-operation with African nations, and not to the recession in Europe.

"The [financial] crisis has had an effect on illegal immigration from Latin America, but the drop in the numbers of small boats [from Africa] is above all due to the work of the police, to the repatriations and the co-operation with countries of origin such as Algeria, Mauritania, Senegal and Mali," he said.

The number of those arriving in the Canary Islands stood at 2,246 last year, down from 9,181 in 2008, he said.

In recent years, the route between West Africa and the Canary Islands has been one of the most popular for migrants trying to reach the EU from Africa.

The journey is often attempted in ill-equipped boats provided by smugglers, and migrants frequently drown at sea.

Travel / A Migrant's Journey To Europe by hadexman(m): 7:51am On Jan 17, 2010
Morgan is one of the thousands of African people who have made the perilous journey to the Canary Islands in an open fishing boat.

He was caught and deported back to Nigeria but he hasn't given up hope of getting to Europe.

Morgan got in touch with the BBC by e-mail from Morocco, and this is the story he told:

African immigrants arriving in Tenerife
Over 19,000 migrants have arrived on the Canary Islands this year
My name is Morgan, I'm 30 years old. I tried to get to the Canary Islands once before but didn't make it, I'm on my way back to try a second time.

The boat I was on was intercepted by the Spanish police as we reached land. I was put in detention and then deported back to Nigeria.

That journey was quite possibly the most frightening experience of my life and had we not been picked up by the authorities, we would all have died.

Despite this, I am on my way back, to try again, a second time.

'Fear for family'

Life in Nigeria is hard. There is such poverty. There are no jobs, there's no food and there is corruption. I can't say too much about the situation as I fear for the lives of my family, the ones I've left behind.

Lots of us were vomiting and one girl, who had been seriously vomiting, died - I can't say what happened to her body

My father died when I was young, life for my family has been difficult ever since, I don't remember a time when we didn't struggle to eat.

I have to try and make a better life for myself and it will enable me to send money back for my family.

I left Benin City in Nigeria on 11 January 1998 and began my journey. I travelled overland through Nigeria, Niger republic, Libya, Algeria and into Morocco.

Click here to see the routes taken by Morgan.

I worked wherever I could, selling goods and working as a barber. I was caught by police on various occasions. On the border of Morocco, they beat me so badly that my legs were dislocated.

A friend of mine told me we should go to the western side of Morocco where we could meet someone who would help us get to the Canary Islands. As soon as my legs were better, we went.

'Boat journey'

I gave a man 300 euros. He took me out into the open desert where there were more than 70 other Africans waiting to go. We entered the boat on 7 August 2002. There were three boats, each boat carried around 25 people.

A fishing boat containing African migrants
Migrants travel for hours from the African coast

As the boat moved off, we began singing gospel music to keep our spirits up. It helped us not to think about the danger. After many hours, lots of us, including myself, were vomiting. One girl who had been seriously vomiting died. I can't say what happened to her body. I try never to think about it. I'm also afraid for my safety.

After many hours of this, a big wave came and covered the boat. Everyone was shouting, water was pouring into the boat. I thought we were dead. We were all crying, we had no idea which direction we were going in or which direction we had come from. Everyone was panicking but then the engine suddenly started again.

We all worked hard to bail out the water and we continued the journey. We were at sea for another three or four hours. I remember thinking it felt like the ocean kept opening up, swallowing our boat and spitting it back out again.

'Rescued'

We were rescued by the police as we neared the coastline. Moments after they picked us all up, our boat broke in two. If we had not been rescued, we would certainly have died at sea.

The other two boats disappeared. To this day I don't know what happened to them. I was in detention on the island for many days but we heard nothing.

I am afraid of making the journey again, but there is no other way.

Back in Nigeria, the situation was even worse. I started trying to save money again, I met a friend who had some money and we agreed to try and make the journey again.

We went from Nigeria to Benin, through Togo and Burkina Faso and into Mali. There we paid a truck driver to take us to Morocco but he dropped us in the middle of the desert in Algeria. We were left there for two days with no water. Some people died, including my friend and travel companion, John.

Luckily for us, the authorities rescued us again. It was the Algerian police this time, they found us in the desert and sent us back to Mali. That saved my life.

I gathered together as much money as I could and started out again. I'm back on the road now working where possible and trying to save enough money to take the boat again.

I am, of course, very afraid of making this boat journey again but there is no other way. I and other Africans like myself feel we have no choice. I have to try and make a better life, I pray that God will see me through.

Please guys, which is the fastest way to make long dreads.
Fashion / Tips/ Advantages & Disadvantages On The Different Procedures Of Making Dreads by hadexman(m): 10:33am On Jan 16, 2010
Dear Nairalanders,

Which is the best and fastest way of keeping dreads? There are various types which are:

Backcombing

Advantages: Hair looks like dreads the same day and reaches maturity faster than other methods. You can control the size and shape of the dreads, anywhere from thick and smooth to thin and sexy. It is an all natural method. Backcombing will work on all hair lengths 3" and longer.

Disadvantages:
The initial dreading takes a few hours and is pretty labor intensive, nothing a good friend or two can't handle. The best way to back comb is to take your time and make the dreads as smooth and tight as possible.

Wool Sweater or Wool Hat rubbing

Advantages: The main advantage to the rubbing method is that if you happen to own something wool you can get started right away. It is an all natural method. You can do it yourself.

Disadvantages:
It hurts like hell and the dreads that it makes vary greatly in size and do not look very good. Hair will usually need to be cut after trying this method so you will have to grow out your hair again before trying another method.

Neglect

Advantages: You can do it without assistance. It is the easiest method. No special tools or products are needed, just time.

Disadvantages:
It takes at least 3 years to start looking like dreads in most hair types. You need to have about 10" of hair for the knots to start forming. The dreads form unevenly, some dreads will be huge and flat, others skinny. People usually get sick of having nasty hair and cut it off long before they get dreads.

Dread perming

Dread perming

Advantages: It's like instant dreads.

Disadvantages:
It is a chemical process. Dreads formed by perming often require professional maintenance. Cost, $200-$400! It's like instant dreads.

Twisting

Advantages: It is all natural. You have control over the size of the dreads and how they form. Many salons are familiar with this method and the cost is usually much lower than a dread perm.

Disadvantages:
It only works in African textured hair but that doesn't mean salons won't try it on Caucasian hair!

Crocheting Dreadlocks

It's no secret that locking hair with a crochet hook is thorough, instant and chemical-free.

Am currently doing the crocheting type, I don't know if it's faster!

i laughed like a maniac at the interractions grin

anyway, my little advises:
where r u located at the moment?
remember this: namibian and botswana citizens dont travel that much. they have pretty much everything they want in their countries. a friend of mine used botwana passpt to travel from south africa to canada via amsterdam.he was arrested and deported and jailed in jo'burgh. they guys who apprehended him in holland told him that they hardly see botswana citizens travel.
a second buddy of mine(paul) used malawi document to travel from zimbabwe to canada via london;he was stopped in london and the immigration guy caled the malawi embassy to send someone to interview paul;it was hell to pay i tell u since paul couldnt even say hello in the malawi tongue. paul was shipped back to zimbabwe and jailed for 3 months.

another thing, never discuss things like foreign passpt on a public forum like this; for the sake of our dignity.these kinds of things require confidentiality.

Please tell him again, A word is enough for a wise.

Travel / Re: New Rules Of Air Travel For Nigerians Heading For The United States by hadexman(m): 1:40pm On Jan 15, 2010
KlinBoy:

New Rules of Air travel for Nigerians heading for the United  States

Do not go to the toilet for the  whole duration of your flight.

Do not carry any kind of  container into the airport, or onto the plane.

Do not request for a window seat.  Do not ask to sit in the aisle. Any request for specific seating may be  indications of a premeditated plot.

If you are given food during the  flight, ask the flight attendant not to give you cutlery.  A Nigerian  with sharp implements on a plane is asking to be arrested.

Do keep your hands in plain sight  during the flight. Do not look too happy or too sad.

Do not be too polite to flight  attendants.

Do not be aggressive or have  aggressive thoughts toward flight attendants

Try not to have any form of carry  on luggage. If you do, make sure it contains nothing suspicious or dangerous  like pens, pencils, paper, or a calculator, as these are common bomb making  materials.

Do not carry any electronic items  that may be used to communicate with the Taliban ,or used for surveillance, like  cell phones, iPods, walkmans, electric toothbrushes or cameras.

NEVER  travel with your laptop computer,

Never travel if you have any kind of tribal marks. That  includes the small marks you have managed to cover with facial hair.

Do not travel to the U.S if you are an engineer, if you have  ever lived in London, or if your father is a banker.

Do not talk to other Nigerian on the same flight as you. It  makes other people nervous.

Do not ask to be upgraded to first class or business class.  Sitting too close to the front of the plane makes the pilot nervous.

Never admit to your fellow passengers that you are Nigerian.  If asked, say you are from the Republic of Zamunda in East Africa.

When you are getting onto the plane, do not even glance at  the cockpit.

Women, do not wear wigs, weaves or hair pieces. Any form of  disguise is suspicious.

Take a cold shower before coming to the airport. Sweating  and scratching yourself is a sign of nervousness. Why are you nervous?

Do not fart on the plane. Noxious smells might indicate you  have bomb making chemicals hidden in your underpants.

Do not go home with the free magazines in the plane. Yes, it says  “ free”, but that is just a test. Leave the plane with those magazines and you’ll  be arrested.

Wear clean underwear and be ready for a full body/cavity  search.

Do not  carry any potentially dangerous or toxic substances onto the plane like  toothpaste, cough mixture, bottled water, mouthwash, lipstick, chewing  gum or baby formula.  Make sure  your baby’s diapers are empty.

Do not get angry with fellow passengers, for any reason,  even if it’s their fault. You will still be arrested and sent to Guantanamo  Bay.

Do not travel by air into, out of, or across the U.S if you  are Muslim.

Muslim is defined as  :

Any person with a suspicious name  like Mohammed, Fatal, Fatima, Barrack or Ibrahim, or if your last name starts  with El-, Al-, or Abdul-.All Nigerian  Alhajis, Alhajas, Alfas and Imams are forbidden from entering U.S  airspace

Anyone that has ever entered a  mosque.

Anyone that knows what a mosque  is.

Anyone that dresses in long  flowing garments.

Anyone that has a  beard.

NOTE: If you  converted from Islam to Christianity, you are still classified as  Muslim.

Always travel with some kind of  proof that you are a Christian. Preferably always travel with your pastor.

Do not attract attention to  yourself. Do not drive to the airport in your Mercedes or Honda like a typical  Nigerian. Instead, drive an American car like Pontiac or Chevy. You may be  mistaken for an American. Or Haitian.

Do not ask to drink soda, tea or  coffee in the airport or on the plane. Always ask for alcohol to prove you are  not a Muslim.

Do not travel by air in the U.S  if you have ever had a parking ticket, extra-marital affair, stolen stationary  from your office, or if you have ever exceeded the speed limit. This is a sign  of severe subversive terrorist behavior.

Do not travel on or  around Christmas day or on September 11th. Avoid travelling on  or around Easter, Thanks Giving , Independence day or New year’s Day. Avoid  traveling on Muslim holidays. Avoid air travel in the summer or winter. (NOTE:  no specific reason, its just to piss you off)

YORUBA People, PLEASE!!! Do not  prostrate to greet your elders at the airport. People may  thing you  are dodging bullets or protecting yourself from a bomb blast.

NEVER, EVER carry any kind of  Nigerian food onto a US aircraft.

No, do not wear agbadas, head ties,  wrappers, danshikis, etc to the airport. It is not recommended. They make you look  very un-American, and therefore potentially dangerous.

Do not act like a typical Nigerian for the duration of  the flight. This includes speaking any language other than “American  English”. Speaking any “funny”  language is to be avoided. If you have elderly parents that do not speak  “American”, they should NOT speak for  the duration of the flight. If spoken to, their response to anything should be  “Yeah man”.

DO not talk to your fellow passengers. Statements like  “hello” might be misconstrued to be   “Hello, you are my next victim”. Statements like “ Hello, my name is  Mohammed”, may be interpreted as “my name is Mohammed and I’m gonna blow up this  goddam  plane”.

Do not wear large  afros that may conceal weapons or bombs.

Do not carry any  kind of document , newspaper or book that contains any form of Arabic  inscription or writing. You will be detained until a translator can be  found.

Do not argue when  you are told your luggage is over weight. Apologise profusely and pay double  what they ask you for excess luggage.

And most importantly, only the following apparel must be worn to the airport,

Rubbish, All your stories are nothing but comedy sad

It wont affect so much. I was privililedged to meet and discuss with one of u.s immigration officer in newyork the following week it happened and he told me that the last year's applications will still go, but stringent measures would be applied to select winners. You already know its implications.
But he later concluded that the fate of Nigeria in the next coming visa lottery is yet to be decided. He further stressed two possibilities:
(1) The number of slots for nigeria might be reduced greatly.
(2) Nigeria might be suspended temporarily.

so, everything now is mere speculations, concrete decision is yet to be reached!

Where did you get your facts from? Are they based on assumption or what?

There is legislation in italy and france which states that you cannot migrate to work in those countries unless you speak the language.

I dont speak italian or french but if you search for it you will find the legislation. The only people who gain jobs without speaking the language are illegals and they are deported all the time.

You can now only enter europe and work if you have a degree that is either taught in french or italian or you pass a french or italian language profficiancy exam. You cannot migrate to italy and france to clean toilets. Only highly educated proffesionals can migrate.

Can you imagine a nigerian bank manager working in a frnehc bank and not being able to speak french ?

As Africans are not welcome in your country, so you are not welcome on the African forum, so goto hell!
