mikeapollo: Look, no worker wants to lose his/her job because of any union. I am sure many of them would be regretting by now. Unionism is good, but we have to be careful in this matter because of our unfortunate experience with NNPC refineries and how the masses had suffered queuing for fuel at filling stations for days..
If Dangote insists on sacking the 800 workers, he can do it easily and even heavy damages and compensation for it, just to kill unionism in the refinery for life! I agree with you on this. But then he could have come out to tell them he doesn’t want union. Why allow it and sack them afterwards. You’re on point though. |

emmanuelewumi: At the expense of other Nigerians.
That is why they will frustrate all attempts to privatize the government owned refineries and also use some Nigerian workers to kill the only functional refinery that is owned by Dangote You make it sound as though PENGASSAN is a cult of destruction. Sir, with all due respect. This is WRONG!!! Please be objective. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 3:22pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
emmanuelewumi: This is not possible. The payments must have been inflated by the people at NNPC
Salaries of about N120 billion paid every year to workers of dead refineries.
Excluding hundreds of millions of dollars for Turn Around Maintenance almost every year Baba, hold your government accountable. This is the way we digress. Let’s remain within subject. Let’s discuss what the law says and things of such. I like when you talked about court and the rest. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 3:19pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
emmanuelewumi: Don't you think is better for the remaining workers to resign enmasse and teach him a lesson.
I don't like nonsense Isn’t it better for other employers to sack every PENGASSAN member?? Let every employer stop all this nonsense. Let’s not get petty on these matter. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 3:00pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
mikeapollo: So you think PENGASSAN can decide or impose workers on Dangote refinery if Dangote is truly determined to not employ them? The worst case would be payment of damages and financial entitlements to the affected workers This is another possible outcome though. He will have to pay heavily. Then have a workaround on ensuring limiting the right of his employees to join union. A country were many things are possible. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 2:57pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
emmanuelewumi: Which will be interpreted by the court.
Because the employer said they reorganized the business due to sabotage, leakages, theft and others, that what led to the sack of 800 workers.
But PENGASSAN said they were sacked because they joined the union.
PENGASSAN has the billion of Naira to hire SANs who will challenge the sack.
And Dangote will pay dearly for it Lols.. it’s not always about money. If Exxon and Total does this-sacking 800, will this still be your response? Dangote got it wrong when he sacked all of them. Sir, I give you for free that Dangote will NOT win this. I will quote you once this is over. |

You all also need to read the labour law!!!!
Nigerians are quick to support what doesn’t affect them directly. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 12:53pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
mikeapollo: Dangote refinery should reject any attempt by the unions to hijack and dictate to his muti billion business. The unions should focus on advising NNPC refinery management; that is where their advice and opinions have been relevant and we all know the result. Until he his able to drill his well and claim full ownership of the oil or get his crude outside the country. - this is my personal opinion Unfortunately, the law gives ownership of natural resources to the land. There is always room for collective bargain. Dangote will need to sit and come to a compromise. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 12:43pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
emmanuelewumi: In talents were rare, we would have heard cases of 800 workers resigned from Dangote Refinery to get employment opportunities in better refineries or industries.
And Dangote can't sue them for the mass resignation upon the money spent training them That’s not my point sir. PENGASSAN has members in the whole oil and gas industry. I’m saying getting that large number of skill set in general is not possible, If everyone is too withdraw from service,. The industry will become a camatose. Employers will have a full ride and wait until you see the next piper alpha incident. This will have a ripple effect on other sectors. Dangote needs to have a table discussion but seems he wants to operate independently. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 11:37am On Sep 30, 2025 |
To be objective enough and avoid digression, I think we must understand the role of PENGASSAN. To make a comment on corruption doesn’t make me a DSS.

awesomeJ: My brother!!! I'm this Nigeria that people were applying with PhDs to be truck drivers?? As far back as 2012 or so? When the economy wasn't even this hard?
[/b] My brother!!!! Sorry boss, This is laughable sir. Academic excercise is not same as skill set required on many jobs. Like you said that Dangote embark on training .. why did he? You would have thought it’s better to train them on the job but that’s not the case. There is some required skill level on this job. It’s even speculated he employed foreigners for some jobs even for his own refinery. He can get and pay the required skill set for his refinery but he can’t get for the whole industry even if he can afford it. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 11:10am On Sep 30, 2025 |
mikeapollo: And the company also has the right to replace workers who withdraw their services! Let's wait and see who would lose at the end of the day in this era where unemployment is high and people are desperate for jobs. What did the unions do or achieve with the NNPC refineries after they resisted and rejected the proposed sale to private investors by Yardua's govt? This means you will have a plumber doing a piping operation and a tailor sowing PPE for Nigerians. As regards NNPC, that’s not the function of the union. Hold your government accountable to that. Let’s not digress |

GeneralDae: So how do you expect me as a Nigerian to be in solidarity with your course when you don’t even care about me? The legislators would have to regulate these unions and strict penalties have to be enforced. Workers belonging to these unions who shut down sensitive operations for every dispute (even dispute with a private company for that matter) would have to be fined or replaced by non union workers. Unions shouldn’t have such powers. It’s not done anywhere. Lols. I understand your plight… This Union in a way check/balance the foreign investors. Workers were literally treated a slaves. It’s sad it’s our own person that wants to go this route. Trust me, many IOcs have been on this path and they all knows how it turns out. I’m sure many would have called Dangote on this . Let’s see what the resolution will be |

Agbalowomeri: You think what goes on in a government refinery would be permitted in a private business? These people think Dangote refinery is a government entity Oil and Gas working conditions is a global matter due to the everyday hazards. If we are to standardize the monetary part, Nigeria will be one of the least paid. I have seen a 40Tons of equipment fall from about 50ft just in a normal working day oo. I’ve seen someone finger cut just by trying to place a wood to support something so minor. There needs to be a table discussion. Not everything should be sorted with money. |

Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by handsomebolanle: 9:52am On Sep 30, 2025 |
GeneralDae: Whatever issue they have, they should sue Dangote to an industrial court and not disrupt production. Workers have the right to withdraw their services too. Do you have a problem with that? Let Dangote go employ people to chevron, shell and servicing Company. Since he can afford to buy a truck and do free delivery. |

Mankind2024: Investment Marathon: Reaching Highs in NGX, NYSE & Crypto. When I was growing up, common sayings in Shagamu, and among the Yorubas were 'The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step,' 'You can take a horse to the river but can't force it to drink,' and 'Think and grow rich.' These sayings don't fully align with today's reality. Now we know the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first taken step. We can also force a horse to drink water by feeding it with concentrated salt to cause thirst. Growing rich involves thinking, continuous learning, DOING, and growing rich. On Nairaland NSEMPA forum of today, many investors aren't proud of their wins in a faceless forum; rather, the JIJO (Jump In, Jump Out) traders are the ones celebrating their wins. This norm shouldn't continue. I'd rather share my investment successes and mistakes to celebrate personal milestones and encourage others that long-term investing is key to building generational wealth, after all, no one knows me. Sharing milestones by investors on a faceless forum outweighs perceived disadvantages.
On this note, I'm proud of my long-term investments: - NGX portfolio with N170M CAPITAL appreciation within 6 weeks in blue-chip companies in the ongoing rally. - NYSE $11k(N19.5M) gain in my foreign portfolio despite the selloff seen 2 weeks ago - N48M($32K) returns on CAPITAL in cryptos and digital assets YTD in the ongoing crypto rally.
These wins came through learning, discipline, perseverance, steadfastness, and prayers. I believe in taking care of my young and future self and family while aiming for generational wealth. Sharing investment milestones boosts perseverance in holding assets and helps achieve SMART goals. I'd say I've been favoured in my personal finance and investment journey. I hope to share hitting the US$1M goal one day. Once again, investment is a marathon while short-term trading is a sprint. Wishing you all a fruitful H2, 2025. Very far from this figures. Thanks for sharing and this is a good motivation. My biggest loss has been in NYSE -strange how I seem not to make reasonable return there. I’m more focused with NGX and Crypto now. |
