I am sure,given the clout he displayed so far,he will attract attract international donor agencies,foundations and notable international assistance to equip and uplift that facility.I think i saw the model somewhere and it looked too good to be true but still were realizable within a short time frame. In sane climes,People like Dr Maduka will be consulted and given a mandate to revive the health sector in Eastern Nigeria.Sad we dont have such forward looking leaders YET! |

My proposal was actually for those among them who realized the folly of their forebears and traced their ways back to the general Igbo family.We must as a pragmatic and noble race, accept them back when they do. I mentioned a couple of names earlier and still insist it is a matter of awareness and perspective. A logical look at the entire Igbo denials ravaging these groups will always arrive at unbridled folly and self subjugation. Again,the purpose of my view was not to promote a debate or claim anyone but to express an opinion and encourage those who are back in the fold or those about to take the noble step. Once upon a time,the likes of Emeka Esogbue and Lurreta Onochie (prompted by fifth columnists as Ena Ofugara,Itse Sagay and Edwin Clark) held sway in Anioma and promoted a very pathological,silly and demonic version of igbophobia and historical revisionism.It took the open declaration of Igboness by the Asagba of Asaba,Omu Anioma and host of other notable figures to turn the tide. I will also mention Diokpa Osita Mordi,who is an enclopedia of Western Igbo history, to counter their lies. His page on Facebook and other pro-Igbo pages on facebook he belonged to are literal Igbo history classes. Today,more Aniomas are pro-Igbo than before. Please note that one of the most reverred historian and foremost authority in Igbo history is Professor Onwuejiogwu. He is an Anioma man. Most contemporary studies on Igbo history has his indelible marks and references. One of the most cerebral contributors here is CJrane and he is from either Ibuzo or Ogwashi. To give further credence to my veiws on this. The only reason Odili was denied the VP slot with Yar Adua by South South Leaders was his Igbo heritage. At the height of Buhari's exclusion of Igbos in appointments and following the outcry that greeted it,Buhari himself mentioned on national TV that he gave Igbos the most juicy positions in his governement and by this he meant CBN Governor and Minister of Petroluem. Both posts were occupied by Godwin Emefiele(an Ika subgroup) and Ibe Kachikwu (Oshimili). This singular admittance by Buhari displayed the double standards and wickedness of promoting the anti-Igbo story when it suits them to divide the general Igbo body and then admitting the very opposite when it seems convenient. Abagworo:Is there really an identity debate? I personally don't think so. It is a matter of awareness and perspective. For instance,the current Secretary General of Ohanaze Ndigbo is an Ikwerre Man. His delivery at the last Ala Igbo Development Converge in Enugu was mind-blowing and liberating. He is a proud Igbo man. The only reason Peter Odili was denied the VP spot with Yar-Adua was because he was Igbo.Edwin Clark reportedly opposed and openly mentioned no Igbo should be allowed to go that far from Rivers State and ended up throwing up GEJ. The rest they say is history. One of the pro-Igbo veterans on this forum was Ezepromoe. He never failed to remind anyone that cared he was Rivers and full blooded Igbo. Duncan Mighty flaunts his Igbo credentials at each point. Many more are here,following this thread and those who have seen the light should be encouraged. It is an open discussion. Part of Peter Odili's community falls into Imo State so what differentiate him from his Imo kin? Nothing! These guys know the truth but are fettered by a combination of the post war Oil politics through boundary adjustment,sustained anti-Igbo propaganda championed by the Ijaws+Caliphate and Yorubas for sinister reasons. It is a whole lotta complications and crap. Be rest assured that should the political dynamics change tomorrow,you will see all these madness fly out of the window! Are you aware that Marshal Harry,Asari Dokubo,Magnus Abe and a host of other Riverians with English names are originally Igbo people who only took the alternative identity for politically expedient reasons? While we have vigorously focused on and discussed extensively the political and economic development of Igboland,it is worthy to note we have not even made a casual mention of Igbo history,culture,tradition,value system and world view of our different communities. Some phantom studies mentioned Igbo language wil go extinct in another quarter of a century. None of us has even mentioned cultural revival in all our developmental recommendations. Are we aware that any man or group disconnected from their roots live and act rudderless without an identifiable world view except foreign concept sold forced on him/them? Are we aware that prostitution,masquerade,deities and oracles,monarchy,extreme individualism,aso ebi,feminism,killing of twins and the creeping disdain for all things culture and tradition are foreign and imported trends into Igboland? We cannot create the Igbo of our dreams without a vibrant and strong cultural awareness. China is using its military to plant trees and forest the size of Ireland! Is that not smart and super strategic thinking? Knowing the damaging environmental effects of their neck paced industrialisation, they are already planning to implement natural bio-based buffer and balancing. Already,industrial pollution and green house degradation are literal concerns in China. How about if all the road sweepers and janitors employed by the different state governments incorporate tree planting into their routine? In a year,hundreds of thousands of trees will be planted and in another 10 years,Igboland will be the most eco friendly region in Sub-Saharan Africa. That alone will market us even without a single advert. FACE:1.Fact number one.Only in a free,independent and fair nation can Igbos attain and reach their full potentials.So far,the Nigerian system employed and used all tricks in the book to frustrate and stampede on this. We keep pushing. 2. The systemic emasculation and exclusion of Igbos from the mainstream political and economic heights of Nigeria was a well perfected and orchestrated covert state policy post 1970. It was already 50 years old. It only took the recent social mediaboom,enlightenment and surge of educated Igbo youths to dissect and begin a process of dismantling the system. We are already playing our parts through all the ideas and disclosures made both here and in other multiple online and offline fora. 3. Creating the requisite conditions for industrial and commercial capacities to thrive will retain youths back home.Truly,the spate of brain drain in Igboland is worrisome and must be stemmed right now.Political leadership has vital roles to play in this instance. I guess the loud cries of Aku ruo Ulo and Think Home Philosophy being promoted all over Igbo contexts are meant to address this.So far,Dr Maduka,Uche Ogeah,Obi Jackson,Barth Nnaji and Nnewi Industrialists are driving this change through the provision of critical infrastructures in the region. 4.The provision of critical infrastructure like super highways,large grid power stations and rails are still in the exclusive lists. This is constitutional limitation on the state or regional bodies. Nonetheless,i know Odua Group (Yoruba Commonwealth Group) are already seeking to influence the federal government to release and concession some critical infrastructure like the MMIA and National Theatre to them. I also the recent North East Development Commission is way to build a regional engine of development for that region through other means. The need for "Ikenga Group" (Igbo regional union:emphasis mine) is long overdue. 5.In my opinion and based on verifiable history,Nigerian governments,either state or federal or regional suck big time in business. Going into Equity with reputable operators is the way to go either in floating an airline,shipping line,sea port or other infrastructures. Again,are these things in exclusive or concurrent lists? 6.So far,the only centres for RnD are our universities,the few modest research institutes and private initiatives.Do we have the clout to attract international research institutes,educational foundations and donor agencies to build centres for Research and Development in our climes? 7.Again,creating a gas layout is a capital intensive venture. I once wished all the key Igbo players(Septlat,Oronto,Chrome,Tecon,Atlantic and Nestor Oil Companies) in the oil industry can undertake and see to the creation of Alaigbo gas development plan and be allowed by law to own the facility and its proceeds for 99 years. 8.Finally,i agree with you that given our peculiar circumstances,the time to recreate and build our capacity for self reliance within Nigeria is long overdue. Even the current underachieving regime of Gburugburu is still constructing more.We appeal to all governors to buckle up on that. Onitsha,Awka and Owerri will appreciate more with better inner street roads. b.The need to enact legislation that will legally compel landlords in our cities to repaint their houses within a specified time frame,say once in 4 or 5 years was also heavily emphasized. Awka (Ziks Avenue,Esther Obiako road,Greenwood avenue etc). I know very little of Owerri,Umuahia and Asaba. More can still be done and i believe they are cogent. e. Lagos state has a LAGOS SIGNS AGENCY (LASSA) that regulate the installation of signs,pasting of posters and all form of activation.This agency is a cash cow! Trust me i know them well! Plateau State used to have Jos Metropolitan Development Board that effectively regulate these things. We can understudy and apply these in ways they apply to us. Bede2u:Leadership qualities are not hidden.We have had people who served and lived up to their expectations and profiles. Oby Ezekwesili in Budget Office. Aruma Oteh in Sercurity and Exchange Commission. Ngozi in Ministry of Finance. Soludo as CBN Governor. Dora in NAFDAC.Barth Nnaji in Ministry of Power. Dr Adesina made Ministry of Agriculture look like the new rave in town! Many other examples abound. The basic denominator with all the aforementioned is that their qualities and abilities were known long before they were called to serve in different capacities. None of the aforementioned had remarkable wealth before called to serve in politics or appointments. Education and exposure were their weapons. Comparing Sullivan and T.A Orji is a misnomer. They had varied and opposite dynamics both in family name and background,monthly allocations while they were governors and legacies afterwards. Sullivan was born into a political and elite family. T.A Orji was a cobbler and a nonentity when compared to Chime. And yes,again,based on track records,we can deduce each person's abilities to perform in office. 2 Likes |

AnambraDota:True words! But then,it is a Nigerian malady and a fall out of the crude nature of our politics. A portion of the blame also goes to the citizens. For instance,development and performance are hardly key factors and considerations in our politics and governance. Starting from conception to declaration of interest,buying nomination forms (at cut throat prices),expensive campaigns and the basic beclouding emotive out-pours called tribalism and sectional interests (both in the federal and even within our states) the underlying motives are hardly noble. So at the end of the day we end up with elected officials: 1.Who are least qualified mentally and otherwise for the rigors of governance in the 21st century. 2.Who are not motivated for the greatest good for the greatest number 3.Who are entrapped by chauvinistic factors long before they emerge. 4.Who assemble government officials,appointees and key functionaries who were employed and appointed purely for political settlement,parochial purposes and never on the basis of their quality and qualification for the posts they occupy.This particular factor plays out mostly in the first tenure of governors. For instance,just like someone mentioned above,the sit-at-home by IPOB exposed the deplorable state of our roads and streets. We still have sand dunes on the shoulders of the roads. The gutters are still open and largely a safety risk.The curbs,traffic islands and pavements were all broken in several places and in dire need of repairs and repainting.There are uneven bushes and shrubs both in the medians and at street corners.Flowers and trees planted were usually stampeded to death by pedestrians crossing the roads haphazardly. There are many low hanging cables,damaged poles,damaged vehicles and all manner of unsightly materials still giving our streets the third world look. The duties of the various ministries of environments goes beyond hustling to corner the contract for supply of incinerators,trash bins and the likes. Paying attention to all these seemingly little details should be the koko.Getting some of these little thngs sorted can make a massive difference. This remains the magic of Kigali. On security. Why are our villages and hinterlands with just some raggedly vigilantes more secured and devoid of crimes better than the cities where we have seemingly better equipped security outfits? This is where the current structure and evil document called the 1999 constitution apply. horsepower101:Actis is an international equity and leading investor in growth markets globally. They are the ones developing Jabi Water front in Abuja. They also have other key structures within Nigeria aside Jabi Lake Mall. RMB (Rand Merchant Bank) Westport is another of such company with the clout to develop these locations and based on their clout,attract high scale occupants. All we need do is for all the forward thinking money bags,technocrats and sound state governments enter into equity/counterpart funding with them,even if it is 0.00%. In a space of 5 years,we will have an enviable skyline dotting these landscapes. The chain effects of these is better imagined. At least,there is no need for ocean reclamation and land filling yet hence it will cost much less than most other water front locations in middle east and Lagos. Again,all these are doable and will cost the government almost nothing aside providing some key infrastructure(gas line,ease of business registration and other such logistics). ckenneths:Oga Spyder is this the flyover linking the express to New Market or Trans Ekulu. They all look alike. Meanwhile,this bare and scraggy looking structure is another goldmine screaming for attention. All the government need to do is grant an extended tax holidays to any of the major branding and activation companies to completely transform this sore looking pile of concrete. Give them a specification. Repaint and draw murals and multicolored designs on the columns and pillars. Change those short rails and install bigger,stronger and more befitting ones. Illuminate the entire area and use 3D electrical boards to advertise on the lintels on both sides. Afam4eva:Once upon a time,Minaj was the rave both on terrestrial and satelite television. Whatever happened to that dream?. It died as soon as it started. Nollywood has done much to market Igbos (culture and tradition) globally. There may be rough edges here and there but it is quantumn leap considering what obtained 25 years ago. In all my visits to West,East and Southern African countries,nollywood movies are popular and shown on both local and satelite television. It is all about altering the prevailing narratives. The media war targeted against Igbos for close to 50 years cannot be erased overnight. It only took the social media boom to alter much of the entrenched stereotypes and negative smear campaigns. It is work in progress. Again,we have to start telling our stories. This is where the media comes in. Lagos acquired much of the clout it posses today strictly based on media advocacy. A trip to Lagos shows a city living on hype and propaganda. Time for Igbo sons of means to invest in media and tell our stories better. You watch CNN and see various countries and regions showcasing their beauties in well packaged adverts. Check "Incredible India". "Maylasia heaven" and other similar demos. I recall Ohakim once pulled such a stunt with Imo state on CNN. Chimaroke also pulled modest media stunt with his Ebe Ano identity. It is all about consistency and the consciousness will begin to form in the minds of people. Anambra shoreline remains largely untapped,un-utilized and a wasting gold mine. Given the industrial and commercial depth of the State,something akin to Broadway or Eko Atlantic is long overdue here. The entire River Niger coast is prime for such up scale development. I still wonder why all the big businesses in Anambra and environs have their administrative offices in Lagos when we can replicate the structures right on our coast and use every business trick in the book to attract them home. Before Dr Maduka built his iconic hospital and other structures,no one thought it possible. Today,it is a reality. His courage alone ought to kick-start a revolution. I wish! I wish a private endowment or foundation can pull this off. That way,one would be sure they will stick to taste. Aside the basketball court,soccer pitch,cafe and few canopies,i didn't see much again. I wish there will be an event centre. It will be palatial place for all manner of receptions. The green areas were well noticed too. I also noticed there was no car parking space. The water fountain and mini collosium are cool concepts too. I recall you showing something like that. Any recent update of that institute? Such an institute when completed will certainly draw massive influx of personnel exchange and resources from foreign agencies. There's already full coverage of fibre optic network cable in the whole of Enugu and much of Anambra. I recall they were laid and completed by a certain Korean firm during the time of Chimaroke. By the way,i never mentioned any American studies neither in my original blog or preceding ones.I saw plenty boreholes located closed to soakaway pits in our cities. I saw some boreholes caving in after a heavy rainfall or after sustained usage. I saw cities without sewage treatment. These and many more will make borehole an unsustainable means of water for us in the future. We didn't disagree here so what's the beef all about? I am no environmental expert but by observation and common sense,i know the dangers these things will pose eventually. Does the fact the link I quoted was a local view automatically invalidate some of the issues they raised? Even a bad clock is right twice in a day. Please let us disagree modestly. |

The indiscriminate puncture and digging will weaken the soil structure and make it susceptible to landslides,earth movements and erosion eventually. At least,no pro-environmtal laws exits yet to regulate these things. Again,with the lack of proper sewage treatment in our cities,most of the water derived from boreholes are contaminated,unknown to our people. With the exception of state housing in Abakpa and Nkisi in onitsha,no other location I know around has a central sewage treatment facility. I may be wrong though. Advocating for boreholes is a palliative and should be a short term intervention pending when the states get their acts together to provide efficient water supply system or suburbs organise themselves in clusters to have common water plants. I know Enugu state government has a massive water plant at Ajali in Ezeagu LGA and at other locations. The World Bank water programme carried out during Sullivan Chime's regime led to remarkable improvement in providing water for the residents and that was not from Anambra state. There are also many other central locations with boreholes and water plants where Enugu people get water from. How Anambra provides water for Enugu people as declared by you is another wonder. ANSMEDIA:More like it! Kudos to Obiano for doing this. Long overdue. All Onitsha and Igbo cities littered with our gigantic multi-storey residences need are well paved streets. I also hope they will cover the gutters and also construct pedestrian walkways. Asking for green areas in the already cramped and narrow streets is asking for too much. Again,Kudos. Let him remember Awada and other areas.In my opinion,there should be a long term phase-by-phase plan to pave all inner streets in Onitsha,Awka and Nnewi. Next should be to enact a law that will mandate the landlords to repaint their houses once every 5 years at least. Most of the buildings in Eastern cities are solid and firm. Outward maintenance is the bane. Since the State water corporation is dead,at least let every building sink boreholes to provide water for the residents. 7 Likes |
