The Levitcal Priesthood is quite similar to igbo traditional priesthood. That fellow doesn't read his Bible
Not just similar, you will be shocked at what you will unearth if you dig deeper. Refer to this book published in 1999:"Ibos: Hebrew Exiles From Israel. Amazing Facts and Revelations" by Professor Okwukwe Alaezi. He is Igbo and still very much alive. Again, matters like this will only matter to those who seek to advance their knowledge and not for arguments.

InyinyaAgbaOku:
It is not better to accept what was never there in the first place.
Accepting Eri for academics is not a problem. That one has already happened.
Accepting the biblical Eri in particular, is where the problem lies cos it's false.
The Nri people that have the story said he is a divine deity , not a migrant from Israel.
So, those who want to confer the migrant status on Eri are the ones looking for trouble.

Like I said above, archeological discoveries of complex structures- ornaments, artworks and other sophisticated artefacts showed we have been around long before the speculated period of migration.

So, we can't consider what was never there.
I will respond to you once more for the benefit of those who seek knowledge on this matter. I recommended books and documentaries on this matter, you discarded and called them bluff. Here you are all over the place ranting and throwing tantrums yet to prove anything to the contrary except making blanket statements. Here you are suddenly telling us the difference between Biblical Eri and that Eri that settled at Ezu na Omambala without providing the phonetic symbol differentiating the two. Again,i recommended a comprehensive study by an Igbo person (Late Professor Catherine Acholonu) who actually proved the migration was in reverse order. At least her account actually gave us the edge in the entire narration Do you really wanna learn or you just want to keep ranting and blanketing around for fun? "To any contemplating residence in the Ibo country, particularly those likely to be associated with native affairs, I would recommend a careful study of Levitical Law. In many ways the affinity between Native Law and the Mosaic System is remarkable." The statement in quote was made by a British Explorer and it sparked much further studies on this matter. Even if you doubt the accounts of foreigners, pick the history books written by Onwuka Dike,Prof Onwuejiogwu and Adiele Afigbo. Each of the above and many more treated these and many more in details within the limits of evidence available to them. Again, scholars don't dismiss contrary ideas. They keep an open mind.

InyinyaAgbaOku:
You are the one who shoved aside facts, to pursue inanities here. The second link clearly gave the histories of most Igbos clans. None is Jewish.
Eri was described as a progenitor, sky deity, not a migrant. Or did you see any Israeli linkages there? There, Only was said to have their progenitor from the ground, same as Owerri.
How many of your ancestors told you differently? Why should I accept such colonial influence on my history of all things?
There is nothing like providing alternative facts to yours, cos that Jewish linkage isn't a fact.
The articles disproved why the Hebrew linkage is a farce and everything said there is true. You are yet to defend that, just stuck on insisting you came from Hebrew for no good reason.

Archeological studies of Awka and Nsukka gave Igbo history at around 8000 BC, I was thinking that the newer archeological discoveries done at Nsukka (of 4000 BC) would have opened your eyes but you rather prefer fallacies. As at 8000bc, Abraham wasn't even born.
If anything, it's Hebrews that migrated from some parts of Igboland.
I will respond to you finally. Recall this back and forth started from page 181 of this thread. The key view I stated was how a certain act supported the Eri hypothesis (Read, hypothesis? Theory? Proponent?) of Igbo history. I didn't make a declarative or definite statement because I know that such views may be widely held in some quarters but not fully accepted in others. Is there an Eri/Gad hypothesis of Igbo history? Emphatically yes! Are there studies and facts to support that? Emphatically yes! Has it received general acceptance? Emphatically No! You went on overdrive! Debunked the claims(which I never made, anyway) and have been battling an unseen force ever! According to you, those who support your views are logical and factual. All opposing viewpoints are delusional and insane! Come on sir! I am not your candidate!

Oga sir. Once again,i refer to this discussion strictly for academic purposes.I therefore shall not subject it to a back and forth debate with you. Facts are sacred in the field of science and history. (1). The first link you provided failed to address the issue. (2). The second links you provided above failed to address the issues once again. The authors were more interested in attacking those with contrary viewpoints rather than providing superior arguments. (3) I recommended 2 key Igbo scholars who have even written books and made numerous presentations on this matter but you waved them aside and further called them delusional, yet again failing to provide alternative facts. (4) I provide works of foreigners who researched on Igbo norms and practices strictly for academic purposes. The also noted the Hebraic-Igbo similarities. You once again stampeded on their works and questioned their sincerity without providing alternative superior viewpoints. (5). I earlier mentioned and noted the exactitude of core Igbo and Hebraic beliefs but you called them historical accidents. (6) Weather Igbos came from Israel or Isrealites came from Igbos is not my concern. The interesting similarities between both stocks is it. It has also sparked more academic interests in recent times than on any other Igbo related topic, except Biafra. Infact, late Professor Catherine Acholonu wrote a book titled "They Came Before Adam" which support the hypothesis that the ancient Isrealites migrated from Igboland! That Igbos are the original progenitors of the superior race Guess what? She provided lots of links and artefacts to prove and validate that position! Now sir, thats an academic inquiry that should rattle every genuine Igboman who wish to understand our existence. (7) Olaudah Equiano wrote in his memoirs that while his captor's son was reading a portion of the old testament on a certain day,He(Olaudah) told him point blank that all he read out were his culture back home! Igbos and Hebrews share almost all core beliefs and traditions. (cool. There is a utility in every learning. Approaching them with an open mind devoid of preconceived bias and repulsion will edify us all better. (9) A lot was lost in history which we may never grasp. However, flickers and clues here and there are the guide posts in connecting the links. Ndewo sir.

Wrong.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn4bvjMh4vc
Oga i finally saw the youtube video you sent and the following were obvious:
1. The speaker is another European speaker pushing and magnifying Caucasian theories of white superiority.
2. He admitted that Africa has a much longer human evolution evidence yet turned around to claim human species originated from Asia. However, credible evidence and studies established Africa is the cradle of the human race and civilization.
3.I saw how he failed to mention the Moors who were the Black nobility who ruled much of the known world in pre-historic times.
4. Much of his hypothesis were based on findings and theories generated in the 18th century whereas Nri civilization dated to 6th century and even long before then.
5.The video you referred me to failed to address the issue under discussion.I expected to watch a frontal rebuttal of Igbo-Hebraic hypothesis. Nothing of such was mentioned which further cast a long shadow of doubt on your credibility for such studies and further discussion on this matter.
6. Again, studies establishing Igbo-Hebrew links were even championed by Jewish and European Scholars. Refer to Jeff Liberman's documentary "Re-Emerging:The Jews of Nigeria. North Eastern University Professor William F.S. Miles published a book titled "The Jews of Nigeria:An Afro-Judaic Odyssey. A Swiss Jewish studies Professor,Daniel Lis,published a book in 2013 titled "A book on Nigerian Jews".
7.CNN did a major story on the “Nigeria’s Igbo Jews:’Lost Tribe’ of Israel?” In that program, it quoted Prof. Daniel Lis. “Daniel Lis, from the Institute for Jewish Studies, University of Basel, Switzerland, is one of the foremost researchers on Jewish identification among the Igbo. He says there has been a clear continuity of Jewish identity among the Igbo. It’s not just something that happened yesterday.
8. Finally, all these wouldn’t make much meaning if the wooden stool in Nri, which is considered as the cradle of much of the Igbo stock does not exist, more so existing in the said location before Igbos made any contact with outsiders. The wooden stool is said to be made from a wood whose tree only exists or grows in the city of Jerusalem. This appears to be one of the most compelling pieces of evidence of Igbo Jewish heritage that ignited former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin to send delegates to Igboland in search of “Eri” with the purpose of establishing this fact. The research in this regard is still on but to what extent can one think of Igbos having Jewish origin or the possibility of Jews springing out from Igbos still rages.

Please note: i approach the above studies purely from an academic point of view all and a bid to make sense of both the forgotten and prevailing Igbo traditions, culture and mores which appear symbiotic with past and contemporary Jewish traditions. Again, this neither for polemics nor fruitless debate.Let us enrich the discussion the best way we can.

InyinyaAgbaOku:
I can't spend my whole life disputing this fallacy of replacing my history or heritage with that of Hebrews. I have done those discussions more than Buhari has traveled out of the country.
Those folks as Maduewesi and Remi Ilona used to be my facebook friends and when I couldn't stand their fallacies and the insults such bring to Igbo heritage , I blocked the hell out of them. Including their facebook disciples, minus one that makes sense in other spheres. Igbo people are far older than Abraham.
Basden? Nothing is as sacrilegious as a white man telling me my origin .All what those peeps did were use funny sounding similarities to form vague linkages, that's all. Nothing particularly factual.

See how Igbo names/words were being bastardized to make room for possible similarities.
Being Igbos should be enough for us, nothing useful has ever come from this exercise, aside making Igbos look like people looking for attachment. Probably why I am antagonistic about those that try to convince some other people when they deny being Igbo. ....

For every one of those vague similarities, thousands of dissimilarities abound. Books on Igbo history are plenty, that you happen to be exposed to those paraded by jonsers doesn't mean they are the only ones that exist. I don't even consider them as books on Igbo history or customs in the first place. I will search and fetch one of the most powerful books that specifically trashed out Remi Ilona's projections, paragraph by paragraph. The day I came across that book is one of the happiest days in my life, it shows some Igbos have sense of pride and no complex as the likes of Maduewesi and Co possess.

Every tribe within the Igbo groups has the origin of their people, and none said anything Hebrew, not even that of Aguleri/umuleri, a story that the introduction of the Bible spurred. Awka people believe their ancestors are from the soil and I rather go with that, if I can believe Adam was made from the soil in Eden, it then means that God concurrently was making a man at Awka, albeit, centuries older.
Nkanu history doesn't have anything to do with Hebrew too, we traced our own from Nike...We don't play that league.
All you Eri descendants should speak for yourselves and stop dragging the rest of Igboland with you. We don't want.
Thanks
The issue was very simple. (1) What are your theories and hypothesis of Igbo origin?. (2)Both gentlemen you mentioned above are reputable scholars who advanced differing viewpoints on the subject matter. (4) How come Igbo customs and Omenana are the only ones that are exclusively Hebraic? (5) Scholars are people with open minds and not given to emotional outbursts and passive dismissal of opposing views without giving alternative facts.(5) For the benefit of all and sundry, kindly lead the discussion on Igbo history here.(6) Lest I forget, your assertion about Aguleri/Umuleri above was laughable at most. Good day sir.

No be only Areli and Arodi.
Let they keep disgracing their ancestors
Oga I've seen how you been up and about casting aspersions on the Gad/Eri hypothesis of Igbo origin. There are tangible and oral evidence to support it and there are also many practical reasons to believe it too. The Igbo/Jewsish links was even acknowledged by foreigners including English and Portuguese historians. Start by reading up G.T Basden's works "Among the Ibos of Nigeria" (Note: I attached the picture of the book for you). There are others I will recommend if you wish to study more. Let ask,how many books on Igbo history and Origin have you read? Mention them so we can do a little history class here for the benefit of our brothers and sisters. Don't just grumpily wave off any and everything that failed to suit your mold. Igbo core Omenani(customs and traditions) are Hebraic. Most root words in Igbo have same consonance and meaning as Hebrews. Again, this is an area of study many Igbo scholars this day are devoting their time and efforts to unravel these connections. There are lots we do not know that was lost to antiquity. This is an area of study worth delving into. Check these two names on facebook and follow their view with an open mind: Remy Ilona and Emeka Maduewesi. Also join this group on facebook:Omenala/Omenana(Igbo Culture) Defenders. All these are pointing to the imminent Igbo rennaisance. We leave nothing to chance and we assume nothing until there are ample proof to establish fact(s). Again,i presume you are worthy of response and responsible enough, just only misguided, given to how you waved the first statement aside. Just keep an open mind and quit acting trashy. Ndewo.

Oga Spyder. After seeing these pictures of Agbor,i also join you to believe it is the most best kept secret in Igboland! A trip through the express showed just few squalid houses with brown old roofs and we thought that was all Agbor could offer. Now,we behold a big, modern, developed city bustling at the seams! Yeah, its an open discussion in which everyone presents his ideas, suggestions etc.
However, his views show that his mind is bogged down in a dark, empty and timid shell.
He largely believes we are advocating for a full on, frontal confrontation with the central government as the means of liberation and realizing an Igbo nation.

I hope he gradually gets to unshackle himself. This isn't about discussing what we can't do. Its about what is workable and realistic...and they are largely medium to long term goals.
His comments in the previous page concerning the war showed he knows very little about that event. I admonished him to go read up on its history, but he prefers to shoot blanks here.

Well. They say that hindsight is 20/20.
Below in my humble opinion are Nnamdi Kanu mistakes.

1. He failed to realize the importance of seizing political control of SE, before going gung-ho on the imperial FG.
As much as Zik hated the British and her colonial suppression and oppression of Igboland, he recognized the importance of seizing the political control of the East from the then British loyal politician of the East like Eyo Ita , AC Nwapa, Eni Njoku, Okoi Arikpo.
He unseated these British loyal politicians of the East who for selfish interests, didn't want to see the British colonial reign come to end.
The best way to destroy any entity is often from within, through compromise.
How could Nnamdi Kanu have all the Youth of SE at his beck and call, and refuse to deploy such power in seizing the political control of the SE from the current Pro One Nigeria political office holders in SE?
That was his first fatal mistake, and the Caliphate realized this, and so moved quick to join ranks with the Igbo political class (enemies within) who feared Kanu rise and who also for their own selfish interests want the continual existence of Ndiigbo within the Nigerian entity , to topple and crush him.
This is lesson for the future Igbo leader.
Lesson1: The internal potential corroborators to the external enemies, must first and foremost be rendered powerless. You must seize absolute control( political and otherwise) of the home front, before you can challenge an external power.
Kanu and IPOB decision to stay away from the political power process (elections) in the East, would permanently ensure their mission remain furtile. This is the bitter truth.

2. I would keep this second mistake for only Igbo audience.
Bros. I have read extensively on both sides of the IPOB boycott debate. Pro and anti boycott. IPOB's reason for boycott seems more plausible. Perhaps you under rate the reach of the "ruling oligarchy" in this contraption. They control everything down to your Local government. A personal friend of mine(Baron Roy) and one of the finest Political commentators have this to say on his Facebook way in a historical series he has been treating for a while now "The way things work under the arrangement the cal-military (Kaduna Mafia or Caliphate-backed military) had put in place was that they must select the individual that gets to be the president, select his team and through a centrally controlled INEC, determine all the occupants of all elective and appointed officials across the country. They had a carefully hatched succession plan. No one gets anything without their say-so. They are in all National Working Committee of all political parties, and introduced the Principle of Zoning into those parties. Better believe it now that ALL political parties are children of the same mother in Nigeria". Do you really think the ruling cabal will allow IPOB have such a far reaching political structure? The last two elections in Ekiti and Osun ought to beat us all out of the whole "sieze political power" mantra! Nigeria plays atavistic politics. Whatsoever it touches,it pollutes. No laudable venture that was politicised ever retain any form of nobility or value. Look at what happened to Niger Delta agitation since politics got into the mix. Plenty other examples abound. Nigeria is finished bro. All efforts should be to free our people from this madness.

We must fight to restructure nigeria and go back to regionalism with the 6 geopolitical realities.

If nigeria must divide, it must not be championed by the igbos...otherwise, u will see another gang up from the rest of nigerians which will kill our people some more.

Winners only fight battles they can actually win.
Kanu's emergence is an indictment on Nigeria. To think that you an Igbo man,in view of all that have played out, still cast aspersion on Kanu is unfortunate. I wager you were among the howling mobs who screamed for his head while he put his life on the line?. He has paid th ultimate price for Igbo liberation. What do you recommend sir? Two could have been to swear allegience to communist ussr who were spreading communist ideals all over the world.
Oga why not get yourself properly enlightened on the remote and immediate causes of the war. Above all,get properly schooled on the dynamics that played out during the war. When Ambassador Ralph Uwechue,C.C Onoh and Chukwumerije visited the Soviet Union in soliciting for assistance to execute the war,Russian Internal Secratary,Lenoid Brezhnez who happen to be closet admirer called them to an inner chamber and told them point blank" Russia cannot support you to execute the war. Under 11 months, you have developed high artilery systems, missile navigation system, rocket launchers, radar system and bombs. Russia cannot afford another Japan in Africa. We will not support you". The above quote is reachable if you make efforts to read widely before coming here to accuse Ojukwu. To further elucidate, Dan Jacobs in his work on the war "The Brutality of Nations" summarises the Biafra tragedy thus:"The unholy international plot of hitherto arch enemies (Britain and soviet Union) was for a single purpose only.Snuff life out of what many believed was the hope of black Africa". Another British writer,Paul Satre puts it this way" The defeat of Biafra is not a victory for the Nigerian People but for neo colonialists,Soviet and North Atlantic. It is these neo-colonialists who ensured they frustrate the age old struggle of the black man for his full stature in other to continue to succeed in deceiving the world to believe that the black person is incapable of making progress of any kind, and to continue to exploit African countries" All the above sentitive and declassified Intel were made by foreigners to show us what actually played out during the war. In what way then was Ojukwu brazen and brash? Space will fail me to delve further into this but please quit desecrating the sacrifices and memories of our ancestors who faced the whole word to make us free.

The biggest disservice Igbos do to themselves is the mental inferiority complex that somehow Lagos, Kano or Abuja is better than anywhere in their home region. So they keep investing in these strange places to the detriment of their region. No other group in Nigeria consider other places better than their homeland.

The second problem is that the SE Governors have not made investing in the SE easy. I commend Obiano A LOT in this area for having a ONE-STOP location where an investor will get all approvals needed to start their business. The other SE governors should emulate that. It is hypocritical to call on people to invest in the SE while you know it is a mission impossible because all approvals and processes are so disorganized that nobody can reasonably maneuver through them.
The" inferiority complex" is the psychology of defeat and fear imposed by the loss of the war. Such mental states and consciousness take generations to ease off. Infact,a friend of mine who is a clinical psychologist affirmed the post traumatic disorders which are fall outs of such damaging events as the civil war are genetically passed from generation to generation. I do not posses the knowledge to counter or acquiesce to that viewpoint. The Jews had similar experiences like Igbos. Even as antisemitism is still a covert state policy in almost all countries of the world, through focused, proggressive and cultural driven leadership, the Jews had done much to wipe off their mental and social handicaps and totally hold the rest of the world by the jugular. Therein lies the Igbo dilemma. Zik provided focused Igbo leadership in his own time. Lack of successor to push the Pan Igbo agenda truncated Igbo trajectory. Ojukwu's intervention was accidental and served its purpose. The search goes on.

You quite agree with me that one of the fastest way to unleash Igbo industry and ingenuity is to run our governance as a business and on that note i also commend Obiano for his business focused regime. At least better than what obtained previously.

They will stop thinking straight.. There life is all about the oyel... See what oyel did to rivers....they stopped thinking straight...they will believe every lie jst for the oil and that oil is the canker worm eating them up till today.
Oyel is the ultimate curse of Nigeria. Buhari sank 3billion dollars searching for Oil in Lake Chad basin. A futile, wasteful and foolish misadventure that saw three senior lecturers from University of Maiduguri felled by Boko Haram bullets. Expatriates too. On same foolish trajectory,a contract to build a refinery in Katsina is under way. Never forget, the quest for oil was the reason Aburi was jetissoned. The quest for oil was the basis for the Biafran war. Are you aware the Land Use Act was enacted in 1968 while the war raged? Are you also aware the Petroluem Act was enacted in 1969 while the war raged still? Both of these laws gave exclusive rights and unfettered access and ownership of Nigerian Oyel to the victors and their accomplices till date. This is the only country on earth where oil wells and licenses are dashed to individuals without bidding as birthday,Xmas and sexual gifts. The only country where communities are sidelined in the ownership of the resources found in their lands and people living continents and eons away are granted ownership. Also note that Nigerian politics and all civil interactions are built around this reality. People seem not to acknowledge depth of rot and unsalavagability of this union. The problem of Igbos living in the fringes and the petro politics they were entangled with is far deeper than we can discuss on this thread.

i wont lie to u....if i am to lead the igbo nation, i will still only fight for a united igboland comprising of se and ss igbolands within the contest of one nigeria.

The reason are many.
1. The north will not let go of any part of nigeria without another war. We will still lose such a war unless we are in league with ss and sw.
2. If igboland becomes independent, we will now come to realise hw little we are within nigeria. Nigeria govt can place embargo on us..and nothing will go in or out of igboland because we are completely surrounded by nigeria.
3. There is a reason u.s is a powerful nation. The power in number and diversity can not be wished away. Nigeria has the number, diversity and resourses to be the most powerful nation in africa...a potential igbo nation lacks that.
4. As years go, igbos will come to dominate nigeria with time.

I will only wish that Anioma state can be created as south east's 6th state. And i hope it would also possibly include the non-ikwerre parts of rivers state so that with that one move, we would recapture as much igboland as feasible for south east.

I also wish for the 6 geopolitical zones to be recognised as the new regions like in the 60s, with full devolved powers.

In that way, igboland will be under the umbrella of south east and will be fully self-governing even if within nigeria. In that way, we eat our cake and still have it.
As a rebuttal to your views above:
1. Again, here you are ascribing omniscient and almighty powers to a north living a lie. Buhari's emergence, among other things demystified the idea of a monolithic north. Southerners like Okoroawusa,OUK,Tinubu,Amechi and Ngige are the ointment the North utilizes to leash the south. The future of Igboland either as a dependent or autonomous region does not depend on any group granting them waivers. Kindly go through the entitre speech by Zik shared by Pazienza. The reality was between the lines.

2.Since when did size and population of a country become the basis for its development and strength? The following are the most livable countries in no particular order: Canada,Sweden,Luxembourg,Holland,Austria,Finland and Germany. With the exception of Germany(82.67 million.2016 estimate) and Canada (36.95 million.2018 est),the rest of the countries are all less than 10 million people yet they had the best and affordable life anyone can aspire to. Many of them are landlocked! Israel is merely 8.5million yet they control 30% of the global wealth and innovations by a long mile. Conversly, refer to the nations with massive populations: Nigeria,Bangladesh,Pakistan,Indonesia,Sudan etc. All are basket cases in failure and poverty. So wither the population magic? It is even on record that a war time Biafra was more progressive, better governed and habour more prospects of development than any other black nation in existence. Part of the Nigeria propaganda over the years is to feed the consciousness of dependency to Igbos. Today, our people think we need Nigeria to survive but the reverse is the case which explains the forceful and oppressive annexation of Igboland to the Nigerian federation by all and every means possible even if it leads to war.

3.You really annoyed me with your third assertion but i jump and pass. In which other region in this contraption do you have the basic ingredients of greatness than Igboland? The following makes a great nation: Informed and industrious populace, strong macro economic base,Innovation and high achievement motivation, modest industrial base, sound commerce and trading links, culture and social cohesion, entrenched and evolved democratic culture, cultural excellence and strong work ethic. I will wish to take on each and expand for you. Again,a war time Biafra was more developed and better governed than peace time Nigeria. To cure your ignorance and enlighten on what Igbos represent to black rennaisance, please read Emefiela Ezeani's seminal work "In Biafra Africa Died".

4.This fourth assertion contradicted your views above. If Igbos are incapacitated as you affirmed earlier, how will they then dominate Nigeria?
Well,in 1948,Zik proposed self determination and integration to the Nigerian union as courses for Igbos. He chose the latter and it has since proved a costly blunder. The alternative stares us in the face today. Our generation is condemned by destiny to liberate UmuIgbo or remained condemned in infamy and slavery forever.

Here, Zik exhibited impeccable knowledge of the true boundaries and clans of the Igbo nation.
How many of the current political jobbers/political office holders, masquerading as political leaders in Igboland know the true extent of Ala Igbo outside the SE? Even with the Advantage of Internet? Yet Zik knew them All in 1948. This should tell you the level of dearth in quality leadership we suffered after the war, when the victors subverted our true leaders and in their place, raised entities of despicable character and intellect, and foisted them on us gradually as political office holders.

Zik was right in recognizing the fact that Ndiigbo needed self determination in 1948, but without knowledge of hindsight, he errenously felt this self determination would be achieved and protected within the Nigerian context, instead of within an independent republic of Alaigbo. Hence Zik set us on a cyclic path that returned us back to where he met us in 1948 ,70yrs later. He chose the part of Nigeria Independence and unity.

What lesson is there for us to learn? Repeat Zik mistakes under a different nomenclature called "restructuring" or correct his mistakes by working on the everlasting solution of self determination?
The path towards progress for Ndiigbo is clear, if we only let our history and current realities guide us.
Recall that 3 years earlier in 1945 before this address, the first organised Igbo massacre took place in Jos. That was the context that informed the tone of this discourse by Zik. Igbophobia was already a covert state policy and Zik felt the need to galvanise and redirect our people. Again, interventions like this ought to be the focus of Ohaneze Ndigbo. Nnia Nwodo held a lot of promise and has a plethora of sound minds at his disposal he can deploy to steer this ship.It is time to wean ourselves from the psychology of defeat and shame the Civi war inflicted.

Idennaa, you of all people know that all these allegations are not true.

Anambra is the golden Eagle of Igbo people. Every Igbo person knows that Anambra is Igbo pride, Anambra have given alot to Igbo unity. No one in nascent Igbo history had given more to Igbo unity than the likes of Zik and Ojukwu, go and listen to Zik Address to Igbo union in 1948.
http://www.blackpast.org/1949-nnamdi-azikiwe-address-ibo-people

But he that is respected must show humility, love, kindness and understanding, towards those who accord him respect. Without Igboland, Anambra would be nothing but a minority, not more relevant than the likes of Ibibio in Nigeria.
Whatever Anambra has achieved in the past, it was achieved under the Igbo banner, and we can never reach our full potential outside Igbo banner. Hence, we must treat our brothers in Igboland with utmost respect.

Zik greatest address to Ndiigbo was rendered in Abia state, Aba. Ojukwu greatest address to Ndiigbo, the Ahiara declaration, was made in Ahiara Mbaise, Imo state .
You are not more Anambra than these two, yet they understood the importance of Igbo unity. Hence why the entire Ndiigbo from Ebonyi (Akanu Ibiam) to even Ikwerre those days, accorded respect to Zik.
He was a pan Igboist. He didn't achieve that by coming to tell other Igbos how his Onitsha people are wiser and better than them all, rather he preached unity and told everyone that we have more things in common, than things that divided us. ZIK was preaching pan Igboism in an era when many Onitsha people still looked down on our Idemili people, told us they were not Igbos by calling us "nwa onye Igbo ".
Just think about it Nwanne, and you understand better. Anambra would never truly progress, as long as any part of Igboland remain backward. One way or the other, our fates are entwined. If Zik understood this as far back as 1949, why can't you even with benefit of hindsight, understand this 69yrs later, even with the added benefit of hindsight?
Nwoke Awka(Oka),you are an old and rugged soul. Thanks for putting this wisdom in clear and simple terms. No one need say more.Dalu.

I was a kid during the 1993 chaos that erupted following the annulment of the presidential election. We lived in Lagos. As more tension rose, my father decided we should temporarily relocate to the SE until the situation becomes calm.

Lots of Igbos in the SW also made that decision to at least take their families back home. My father drove us to the village that period. Since my mother had travelled earlier, I had the luxury of occupying the front passenger seat. So, little me was the assistant driver/co-pilot on that trip grin
Those who remembered that period will also recollect that there was fuel scarcity.
Now, it was during this trip that I got to navigate the backstreets of Onitsha due to the heavy traffic that ensued from the mass exodus, referred to as "ösö Abiola", beginning from Umunede till after Obosi or so. The Onitsha bridge was the choke point/bottleneck.

Now, why I'm writing this is because of the eye opening experience I had when we had to abandon the Owerri-Onitsha expressway because of the gridlock and navigated some backstreets in Onitsha, as we were heading to Imo state.

Wow! I was overwhelmed by the sheer concentration of 5 storey buildings in those back streets. Never knew that such residential buildings in those numbers existed inside Onitsha. I had seen taller buildings in Lagos, but never in such concentration. I mean, every single building in those streets are all 4 or 5 storeys. I kept asking my father where are we? cheesy
He replied that we are still in Onitsha.
Yes, but I never knew that such tall buildings existed in these "backyard" streets!
It looked surreal. I kept gaping. When were all those buildings erected?

They were owned by different individuals. I doubt that till this day, there is a more concentrated settlement with 5 storey residential buildings in Nigeria.
The downside was, those areas were never planned. They looked haphazard. The streets were in ruins, but all the buildings were fully occupied.

I don't knw in what condition those buildings and those areas are presently in. Just narrating what I witnessed in 1993. I don't even remember exactly what part of Onitsha it is. Should be around Iweka. I may be wrong though.

Most of those buildings were erected in the 80s. This goes to show the undying spirit of the Igbos. Till this day, such building prowess has never been matched by any part or people of the country.

We can surely do better if the right leaders are in place.
The wonder you expressed at such cluster of multi storey buildings represent the shock of non Igbos when they eventually take a trip to any of the major eastern cities. Meanwhile,on constructing inner street roads,we all give kudos to successive Enugu governors for making urban renewal an integral policy thrust. There are far better houses in Onitsha,Aba and Owerri than Enugu but simple application of common sense and a focus on street enhancement makes Enugu stand out and is arguably the most livable city in Igboland today.Obiano is doing modest works in Awka and parts of Onitsha currently. Areas like Ugwuagba,Awada,Fegge,Omagba Phase 1 and 2 etc need such intervention as a matter of emergency and it can only succeed with State's intervention. It will lead to knocking down a few walls,re-installation of a few electric poles and puncturing a more water pipes but in the end we will have well planned and much more modern city. A well fixed Igboland is a tourist haven waiting to be unleashed. The government do not necessarily need ashpalt for our inner streets. The whole advanced world has since diverted to interlocking tiles in fixing inner city streets. Focusing on using interlocking stones for our inner city streets can kickstart a new sector and provide massive employment chain. These things are not hard to do. I do not know how much it is already done in the east but aggressive introduction and collecting of building registration levies and privatisation of refuse/sewage management will provide all the funds needed to fix some of these without the government spending a dime or labouring the budget more. Until we run governance like business,we may never unleash our best in Igboland since the massive federal intervention and assistance is already systemically skewed against us.

I had been passing through Agbor expressway to and fro Lagos in the past 25yrs without stepping into Agbor until my car broke down recently. Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! What I always thought was a chaotic hamlet from the highway is a well planned, organized and clean thriving town with a lot of institutions , government agencies and opportunities . This is a hidden jewel millions of passersby never knew exists. I was blown away by Agbor to say the least. In fact, i later became happy I had the issue because I had a plesant unprepared tourism. The mechanics fixing my car and other workshops i went all spoke intelligible igbo and are even passionate about biafra issue. Even the church I worshipped on Sunday sang igbo Christian songs and preaching in Engligbo.I hired a bike and toured the town extensively. The people are nice ,well behaved and laidback in a pleasant way. I really felt at home and since that time, anytime i drive through the express, the memories floor back.So when next you're travelling, spare 20 minutes in Agbor and you will thank me for a plesant discovery. Can anybody post pictures of Agbor because Agbor is Igbo land too.
This your exposition gladdens my heart for two key reasons. First,it showed, contrary to long and endless debate on this thread that Agbor as well as the entire Anioma axis remain fundamentally and proud Igbo enclaves same way as Umuahia and Awka. Secondly,it finally reinforced the need for first hand experience over online phantom debates. Let us all be reminded that IPOB protest to release Nnamdi Kanu happened first in Agbor and Asaba before it occurred in Aba and Onitsha. This fact alone is highly significant. Aniomafirstson,CJrane and Nnamdijonathan(?) are the few Anioma sons on this thread. Sadly, none of them lives close to home to bless us with pictures of Agbor and other nearby communities perhaps until after Xmas celebrations if any of them travels.

For once I have to agree with you. I visited Oguta in 2003 and I was blown away with sheer beauty, wealth, culture and sophistication in one town. It is only second to Abriba in having hilltop residences and breathtaking structures.I lodged at Obana Motel, which happen to be on same street with Dr Alban's residence. Oguta is so dope that indigens who live in PH,Owerri and Onitsha troop home every weekend to spend it in their palatial mansions. Xmas holiday in Oguta is a carnival all day. All these ethnicities (even the other two major ones) know the worth of Igbos....even if grudgingly so! You hear all these negativity some of them spout about us, yet doesn't it strike you as odd that the Biafran agitation for secession (even if it's just the 5 south eastern Igbo states) is receiving ZERO support from the rest of the country? Fact of the matter is, not only do they know our worth, but they (those of them that can't see a life worth living without 'one Nigeria') also know that if ANY ethnic group (not just Ndigbo) or region is allowed to break away, it would lead to a domino effect that would equally lead to the demise of Nigeria as we know it! Everyone, bar the Hausa/Fulani, are sick and tired of Nigeria as is.....just that some don't have the self-belief like Ndigbo to want to go it alone!

If by some fortuitous chain of events, Nigeria disintegrates, i make bold to assert that most of these ethnic groups you presently think are antagonistic towards us would want to form a new union with us.....especially groups that made up the old eastern and midwest regions. All it would take for this to happen is Ndigbo and just one of these ethnic groups (especially one with access to the sea) agreeing to form a union, and then you'll see others wanting to join! Especially if they see this new nation would be one based on equality of all its component parts...a weak centre....and one in which all component parts have control of their own resources and destiny! In short, the very antithesis of 'one Nigeria'! smiley
Nigerians of other ethnicity present a comic and sad spectacle of cowardice and treachery daily. I recall at the height of IPOB's agitation,Yoruba's hosted Odua Congress and had a major convention on self determination and restructuring which they called "IBADAN DECLARATION" all in a bid to give a tacit support to the calls for self determination being championed by IPOB. The (Caliphate) Federal Government through El-Rufai championed and constituted a committee on Restructuring. Middle Belt leaders in one of their meetings openly challenged and denounced the illusion of a monolithic and one indivisible North. They even sent emissaries to pay homage and claim solidarity with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. I saw a flick on youtube in one of Nnamdi Kanu's visits to Ikwerre and their kings openly pronounced their Igbo roots and also boldly disassociated and deny the Bini origin claims. All the ethnic groups were sending emissaries and making pronouncements to support restructuring. The IPOB phenomenon ought to show Igbos they have no friends in Nigeria yet and are as endangered today as they were in 1966. It is a pity all the noise from Niger Delta about resource control, restructuring from South West, quest to have a separate political union by the middle belt, the desire for autonomy by the minorities in the Niger Delta are all noise and nothing more. No substance. None is willing to sacrifice for the greater good of their people except Igbos. Till date,Igbos remain the only group who consistently and frontally challenge the current structure. "Without a shadow of doubt,Igbos are the only collective paying the ultimate price to free Nigeria from the clutches of conservative and retrogressive forces" Anthony Enahoro Jr.

Exactly.

An open live broadcast, where all the political leaders, stake holders and traditional rulers of Igboid groups in SS are invited and asked plainly to accept or denounce Igbo tag.
It has to be televised with major news media present. This is the least Ohanaeze Ndiigbo should do.
IPOB have been on their neck recently, and it isn't difficult to see why. They have failed to produce strong leadership and Agenda for Ndiigbo. Nature abhors vacuum. And as the Igbo nationalism consciousness is growing amongst Igbo youths, Ohanaeze would either have to sit up or phase out.
It's 48yrs after the end of civil war, and the Igbo denial is not dying, it's growing and spilling into the social media. How long does Ohanaeze want to continue playing the ostrich on this issue? Why are some people thinking this isn't a serious issue that needs constant discussion? Soon Nigerian would go digital, with the national identity card, do Ohanaeze know the implications of this? The national identity card and number would have room for ethnic identity. With these people in Igbo denial, it means our population would decline, yet these people can still morph as Igbo whenever they want, and enjoy our benefits, surely, Igbo youths wouldn't let this happen.
The identity crisis can no longer be allowed to fester in silence, we had ignored it for decades now, and it has not died. History shows that issues are better resolved by constantly discussing them openly and not running away from them, that's why they have conferences to discuss topical issues in civilized world, where solutions are offered. It's time these people are put on hot seat, until they take a stance as a group and we all can move on.

Ohanaeze must organize a conference tagged Igbo denial syndrome. Then invite all traditional rulers, political office holders and stake holders from affected areas, alongside with SE delegates. Where we can all dialogue in televised manner, and these people asked to bring up their grievances and way forward. A pan Igbo national conference is long overdue. This I believe should be Ohanaeze duties. But they are not delivering at all.

We can't continue building castles in the air like this. It's pointless discussing a pan Igbo agenda, when you haven't established who is Igbo and who isn't. And what are the boundaries of Igboland. Totally exasperating and pointless.
You spoke like a true Igboman! Straight to the point and without fear or favour! Bravo! I started this discussion 5 pages back and am super glad all these diverse opinions have been established. I can say some of us are now better informed about the history and dynamics of this matter. As it stands, one thing is most expedient from all opinions shared thus far: A Pan-Igbo Conference to deal specifically with Igbo denial syndrome and other psychological expressions of defeat being manifested by Igbos found outside the SE. I still take exception to the cerebral and informed Anioma and Rivers Igbos on this thread and forum who celebrate their Igboness. Evidently, the only missing link to frontally deal with this malady is the right leadership. The current Ohaneze seem like political jobbers whose only focus is what they can extract from the polluted corridors of power in Abuja and a dead country like Nigeria. No noble Igbo interest seems to be in their agenda. I wish they can review their stance and deal with the real problems of Ndigbo. From every indication,it falls on our generation to resolve this matter and delay is becoming dangerous. Once again, keep your cerebral views coming. You have a fan here

Meanwhile, most of the youths dont think they are Igbos. Nobody told them.
Meaning that even the old ones that come to Ohaneze meetings don't teach their children anything, what's the point, if not politics? .

During my first year, everybody in the room was telling a girl of 23 that she is Igbo, just that she is from Delta. This girl vehemently argued she wasn't one. Remembering that argument now, the question is, " did that man actually keep that away from the kid till 23?"
Did he even say that they are Igbos cos I remember the girl pre-informed him they were in an argument.
The father probably thought it would be politically correct for the daughter to align with Igbo since she was schooling there.

Also hotels can be multiple businesses in 1 building:

But I totally understand your point.
Of course! There's absolutely nothing wrong with building hotels. There must be a huge demand for it to prompt that rat race. Owerri recently acquired a popularity (or notoriety) for carefree and advanced lifestyle and that explains the upsurge of facilities that sustain such lifestyle. I am also aware one of the most modern and best conference centres in Southern Nigeria is in Owerri. Both national and regional conferences hold there regularly. This also justifies the need for hotel and lodging facilities. We should also be aware that if the abandoned conference centre in Enugu is completed today, the hospitality capacity of the city will be stretched. In all, every investment into the real sector of the economy always propels a multiplier effect in other sectors. No investment is a waste.
