Well, if ur client wants sharp colours that have nothing to do with his brand so be it, but I beg of you, move that content up. Its obvious from even your screenshot that it's not conspicuous at all. As the average user, who knows nothing about the company, I dont want to see 3 large images first before then SCROLLING DOWN to find info I'm looking for.

To be honest, I feel the picture to the left of the content is unnecessary.
WebmastersRe: Website Review ( New ) by hanen(f): 6:44pm On Oct 08, 2008
I don't know, there's something disjointed about it. The black and red bit looks completely off from the bottom bit. From the logo, it appears the company's colours are green and grey, so where does all that black and red come in? I showed the site to someone just now who didn't even notice the lower half till i mentioned it.

Okay, I have just seen the inner pages. Dude, the black bit is too friggin big. The user should be able to see the content at first glance. Which I can't, even with my large screen. The page also suffers from too much under - utilised whitespace. everywhere. Reduce the amount of space between the black bit and increase the font size. While we're on it, I don't really get the picture on the lower left next to the main content. Is your page centrally aligned or left-aligned? If it's the former why is that picture floating off to one side?! If its the latter, whats going on with everything else?

I feel you should make that site more compact, too much space and images and not much emphasis on the info.

Also, the nav seems to be floating, it seems it would have looked better if it was sitting on the black box, do you get what I mean? and there''s an obvious lighter red line just below it.

That is all. For now.

WebmastersRe: Nairahost Again! Why Now by hanen(f): 11:04am On Oct 07, 2008
@abhost

You appear to be drinking Panadol for another person's headache. And badly. Name-calling is grossly immature. And I don't know that you can call it a hard earned reputation when they don't seem to be able to reply mere mails.

Fraud is the creation of trust and its subsequent betrayal - William Black

Unless you haven't been paying attention, the OP paid for a service on Nairahost's site. They offered him a platform with which to buy his domain. Therefore, it only MAKES SENSE that they take responsibility for anything that happened while he was there. Even if it wasn't their fault he didn't get his domain (and it is, because they failed to communicate its unavailability to him), the owner(s) of Nairahost owe it to their integrity to at least reply their customer when he encounters an issue, which they apparently haven't done. Smells like laziness. If they don't want to go the extra mile to satisfy their customers, they will lose them.

I personally don't have any business with Nairahost, thank god, but from what I'm hearing they should learn that you don't play mind games with people's money, it's a recipe for disaster.
WebmastersRe: Nairahost Again! Why Now by hanen(f): 4:24pm On Oct 06, 2008
If you were hosting .ng domains before, and something happened to stop it, you should announce this to your customers. It's only fair. And secondly, even if you don't, you should at least warn your customer before checkout or remove it from being selected.

I also think that as Nairahost is the one at fault, the customer shouldn't have to go to any bank to sort out a refund.

It's because we as nigerians arent pro-active enough, such an act of making people pay for items you cant provide is as good as fraud and deserves a lawsuit, IMO.

Are you aware of such a thing as copyright infringement?! I mean, you can spin it any how you want. but what you've done is copy and paste. FYI, Facebook is currently suing 2 social sites in Europe that did what you did. It's like taking a bottle of Coke and changing only the name. If you are taking someone's trademark, you aren't going to be taken that seriously.

Trademarks

32665, FACEBOOK, THE FACEBOOK, FACEBOOKHIGH, FBOOK, POKE, THE WALL and other Company graphics, logos, designs, page headers, button icons, scripts and service names are registered trademarks, trademarks or trade dress of Company in the US. and/or other countries. Company's trademarks and trade dress may not be used, including as part of trademarks and/or as part of domain names, in connection with any product or service in any manner that is likely to cause confusion and may not be copied, imitated, or used, in whole or in part, without the prior written permission of the Company.

The above is part of Facebook's Terms of Service, that you are violating. Good luck with that.

Anyone seeing your site for the first time, will think, OMG, rip-off,  lame.

The people that created Facebook (and while we're at it, Hi5 and MySpace) are NOT super-heroes, they sat down and came up with ways to make their site unique/user-friendly/aesthetically appealing. They also STRIVE to make their respective products from the others. It irritates me to no end when you people get up in the morning, STEAL (because that's what this is, stealing) an original idea, change one or two things and expect to be given glory/credit for being unable to come up with an original thought.

What's so African about it? And like someone's mentioned before, if you're going to make it look like a carbon copy of Facebook, be prepared for a comparison. What's so special about it that will make me use your site? And i noticed you mentioned seperate messengers, HELLO, I can get that on MySpace AND Facebook,  if you havent noticed, you can pop out the chat on the Facebook,  And a forum? Really? I'm going to join ur site because of a forumhuh? So please, beyond the fact that you appear to lack visual creativity, what else am I supposed to know about this Wathii of a site?

PoliticsRe: SSS Invades Channels Tv by hanen(f): 8:40am On Sep 18, 2008
They are over-reacting. Channels retracted the comment, what more do they want? It happens all the time to even the best media houses. Sometimes someone's going to give out wrong information. Calling the SSS to ransack their offices? Yet when they're robbing a bank, the police will get there an hour late.

Please, as usual, Nigerians overdoing simple issues and ignoring the bigger ones.

Sisiskill made a GREAT point jare.

All you really need to do is go the Romance section and see some of the threads there, and the poster's point is proven already. Everyone here that is taking it personally is not being objective. nigerians hate being told of their faults by outsiders. Instead they're doing the childish thing and going to look for posts on Brazilian men. Seriously?
FamilyRe: Nigerian Women SPOIL men with their over tolerance by hanen(f): 10:22am On Sep 15, 2008
I don't know why we as Nigerians like living in denial, why are all of you insulting the poster? Is it that you people just don't like hearing unpleasant truths? i concur with the poster. But not everything she said. While I believe (and have seen) situations where the woman is encouraged to take crap from her husband, I also know it's not as rampant as she's making it out to be. Too many nigerian men are raised with this strange sense of entitlement that they don't have to even try, and yet they must be wprshipped/respected. . A woman too who has been raised to think that the most important/biggest achievement she can make in her life is her husband, would rather take his crap than put his foot down, cos she'd rather be married and unhappy than alone and happy. It's all in the upbringing of the man/woman.

Nowadays though, a lot more people are getting better educated and wizened to the ways of the world, and such scenarios are (hopefully) becoming less. It's not THHHATT common. But it happens.

Dude, I don't know what YOU'RE USING to design your site, but dropdowns really have NOTHING to do with the OS you're using. If anyone told you that, that person should be shot. You can design any site anywhere, as long as you're using the right software.

my main point is bigboyslim is that you need to see this from her point of view
let her know what you did was wrong
plead and beg until whenever
let her know you still want her of course but this time like mad
don't bombard her with phone calls, give her space to clear her head
call her like you normally do

Thanks for your advice but unfortunately the words in bold do not exist in my dictionary. I can try the other steps though
You are a very unserious fellow. You dumped her for a silly reason, and now you aren't ready to do what's necessary. You can't eat your cake and have it. If she's not worthy of you humbling yourself a bit, after you more or less humiliated her and made her feel unattractive, and thus, unlovable, I hope you and your ego have a nice life together.

WebmastersRe: Obama \ Enyimba Fc Website by hanen(f): 10:58am On Sep 05, 2008
I don't know where the layout of the site was gotten from and I don't care. And to answer, your question, yes, I'm a web designer, and while I don't judge other people who use templates, I don't believe in it, because I love the idea of my design looking original, I've never NOT felt like coming up with my own design. Sue me.

Secondly, the IMAGES are the same, as Farriel as confirmed. I think what HC is driving at, is that he should admit he ripped it off.

Also. looking at Obama's site, his brand, his logo, and generally anything Obama-related, I think it's pretty OBVIOUS that the site was designed around him and not a modified template. Frankly I can spot a template or boiler whatever from a MILE away. Look at those images, they have the kind of patterns you see on currency or government paraphenilia. They are made from scratch images with custom text. Ive seen enough boiler templates to know some things my dear.

Please stop making excuses for people's inability to come up with ideas on their own. The people that designed his site aren't magicians.

Farriel, couple of questions there, I'm permanently on Deviantart, and I see the stuff people churn out daily. Are you telling me,  that that image with the badly placed dark boxes was how you got it on deviantart? Are you HONESTLY going to sit there and say that?? Really?

Why don't you just admit the OBVIOUS?
WebmastersRe: Obama \ Enyimba Fc Website by hanen(f): 8:10pm On Sep 04, 2008
@ uspry

You should become the advocate for template designs, but I gotta ask, did you LOOK at those imageshuh There's a difference between templates and stolen images.

@ post

its obviously a rip off. OBVIOUSLY. Everything's the same, from the patterns to the to gradients and the enyimba dude made some poor attempts to cover up the original image with those obviously-not-matching blue boxes. Why would a so called template have that!?

Its awesome, I'm using it now. I especially love the task manager, and the ability to ISOLATE what's dragging the browser/cpu. There's nothing more annoying than having to crash the entire browser (full of opened tabs BTW) because of some flash plugin ONE page.

But honestly though its really just a nice hybrid of all the best features of the current existing browsers. Cant wait for them to create add-ons and seal the deal.

http://www.itsihost.com/test/itsi/itsi2.htm
i dunno, its just there, really. Nothing really memorable, to be honest. smiley But I have some suggestions.

The text is way too small, and the navigation links are too close together, like they're scared of fillinf up the space.
Maybe you'd want to add a livelier image to the page??! The blue/grey/faded thing, is very bland.

You might also want to set the margin to 0 so the top of the site actually touches the top of the page.

Another suggestion: How's about turning those boxes around so they lie side by side? I mean, it's a novel idea what you have now, but you've got a lot of empty space that those wavy lines aren't doing much to hide, especially as there's already so much white going on. And speaking of those boxes, the Portfolio, Servicees etc titles are practicaly spilling out of the edge of their containers, Padding, m'dear, padding. Or make the boxes bigger, whichever.

um, that is all.

Using slices like there's no tomorrow.
Empty pages, and dead links.
Abusive use of Adsense. Haba, text links on the left and banner ads on the top and right? Na by force to make free money?
Using too many fonts. Cos fyi, 4 different fonts on a page is childish
Harsh colours.
MARQUEES, OMG MARQUEES!!!!
Poor use of templates
Pitiful use of web standards in terms of coding and HTML
Miserable quality images
Unstructured, etc,

WebmastersRe: The Surprising Truth About Ugly Websites by hanen(f): 4:16pm On Aug 09, 2008
@fitinwell

um, dude, making all of ur site consist of images (with no alt tags by the way) is a mortal sin in web design. I can see what u mean when u say it was done in fireworks. slices all the way! Im using a slow conection at the moment, so opening all those images was painful.

@all

i dont get all this ugly against pretty websites. i wish people would stop justifying mediocrity. Would it hurt so much if ur site was aesthetically pleasing YET functional?? and really doesn't it all depend on both? sites like digg.com and facebook aren't swirling in flash, but their code is professionally done, their applications are bountiful, and they're still pleasing on the eye. instead of wasting time here whining about how one's ugly site is functional, try and make it look it better. because, lets be honest. the pretty things attract people first. if it has functionality great. personally i rarely stick around poorly designed sites, i dont care if their codes are so good they can fight crime.
